For the third year in a row, MSM has been given this Top Workplace honor.

It is my pleasure to announce the addition of Troy Simon to the MSM Executive team. Troy joins MSM with twenty years of valuable healthcare management experience ranging from; leadership in hospitals, integrated delivery systems, large multispecialty groups, ancillary services, and consulting. He will serve as MSM’s Chief Operations Officer. Troy will take the knowledge he has gained through his extensive experience to help our clients exceed expectations for their practices’ success. Troy has spent a large part of his career operating large multispecialty physician groups.

Troy’s has proven expertise in operating high complexity laboratories, imaging centers, physical therapy centers, as well as infusion centers. He has led integration negotiations with health systems, negotiated health system acquisitions of group practices, handled new practice acquisitions, initiated new practice development, managed large building and new site development projects, and most importantly, has demonstrated the ability to significantly improve the physician practices he is affiliated with. Troy focuses on increasing physician practice’s operational efficiencies, profitability, and recognition.

Prior to joining MSM, Troy was the Chief Executive Officer of a 65-physician multispecialty group in Colorado. One of Troy’s early accomplishments was the identification and implementation of approximately $1.4 million in annual cost reductions. Troy later led affiliation negotiations between the group and a prominent local health system. This resulted in a unanimous decision by the shareholders to affiliate with the system.

In 2009, while Troy was Chief Executive Officer of a multi-specialty group in Ohio, the group received the Better Performing Practice Award from the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). The variables considered for the survey were profitability and cost management, productivity and staffing, and patient satisfaction. The MGMA surveyed 1,732 medical groups and selected 28 elite groups. Troy’s group was located in an area with one of the worst economies in the nation (17+% unemployment) and a payor mix that included over 54% Medicare and Medicaid. Despite those challenges, the group received top honors.

Troy has a strong educational background. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado and his Master in Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Health Services Administration from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California. Troy is a Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) through the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE), a member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) where he was the former President of the Ohio MGMA, and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

MSM is proud to have Troy join our executive team and look forward to the positive impact Troy will make for MSM and our clients.

On Sunday September 25th, the Orange County community hit the streets of Fashion Island in Newport Beach to support the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. This race is one of the largest charity events in Orange County and unites our community with hope and resolve for a future without breast cancer. Among the 22,000 participants was our mighty “Team WIC”. Team Women’s Imaging Center’s members included a mix of employees and their families from Medical Specialties Managers, Moran, Rowen & Dorsey and Women’s Imaging Center, all located in Orange, California. Women’s Imaging Center Radiologist and annual race participant Dr. Richard Cho joined the team. Our team was also joined by special guests Dr. Lilly Ramirez-Boyd and Dr. Brian Boyd as well the amazing staff from the offices of Dr. Randy Fiorentino, Dr. Karen Lau, Dr. Lisa Valle and Dr. Juan Velez. With more than 70 participants, Team WIC was able to raise a $3,000 contribution.

In the sea of pink t-shirts, you could spot the Team WIC members from a mile away! Our t-shirt theme this year was “Take Charge! Show Cancer Who’s Boss!” Our team members wore a grey t-shirt that featured a tie and suspenders embellished with breast cancer awareness and support buttons. Graphic designer Corrie Tse (www.corrietse.com) donated her talents for the cause.

Celebrating the 20th annual Race for the Cure, the Susan G. Komen Foundation has raised over $1.3 million in 2011 through race participants alone! In its 20 years of tradition, the Race for the Cure has raised over $27 million dollars that has gone towards awareness efforts, research and supporting those affected by breast cancer. This year, the foundation set their fundraising goal at $3 million. Donations are still being accepted to hit the target (www.ockomen.org). With the help from foundations such as Susan G. Komen, researchers are able to work towards finding a cure.

This holiday season we have decided to contribute to the Holidays from the Heart Program through Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The Holidays from the Heart Program provides an opportunity for MSM employees to purchase gifts for families from our geographic area who have children who are chronically ill and who are financially unable to provide for themselves and their children during the holiday season. Having a chronically ill child has a tremendous impact emotionally and financially on the entire family. The Holidays from the Heart Program seeks to acknowledge that burden by helping families with limited financial resources to have a special holiday celebration that they will remember. Our MSM employees are sponsoring two families this year. The generous staff at Moran, Rowen & Dorsey, Imaging Partners of Orange County and the Women’s Imaging Center have also decided to participate in gift giving for these special families this holiday season. Collectively, we hope to make this holiday season shine for five families in need.

A huge thank you to each and every person for helping to improve the lives of foster kids in Orange County. Because of your generosity, we needed 2 SUVs to deliver all of our donations. When we arrived at Orangewood, they were thrilled!

Located in the city of Orange, California, the Home is Orange County’s only emergency shelter for neglected and sexually, physically or emotionally abused children. The Home provides refuge each year for about 3200 children who have been removed from their caretakers by police officers or child protective services workers and placed into protective custody.

The Home is comprised of hacienda-style cottages that house children and teens ranging in age from just days old to age 18. Currently the average stay is 22 days. The Home is equipped to hold over 200 children.

Along with the cottages, the Home has medical facilities, a branch of the Orange County Public Library system, and an on-site K through 12 school and preschool. The facilities also include a fully equipped gymnasium, softball field, basketball courts, game room, pool and toddler pool.

The Home and its volunteers give the children, toddlers and teens a loving environment for periods ranging from a few days to several weeks or months while Juvenile Court decisions are made about their future and welfare. On completion of processing, the children are placed into foster care or in the care of relatives.

Through an extraordinary public-private partnership, the Foundation raised the money to build the Home, donating it back to the County on its completion. Ongoing special projects funded by Orangewood Children’s Foundation help to keep facilities in peak operating condition. The Foundation continues to support the Home and its young occupants, providing a wide range of programs, activities, equipment, supplies, and necessities for the children who reside there.
