Supported by the European Commission, the conference will bring together world's leading researchers, ELSI experts, health economists, payers, patients and industry representatives, regulatory authorities and HTA experts and ICPerMed members including ministries representatives, research funding and policy organisations.
Within the last years, ICPerMed gathered and analysed needs from relevant stakeholders, defining challenges and actionable levers. In this context, ICPerMed developed a Vision Paper focusing on five challenges or perspectives in personalised medicine:

•	Citizen engagement,
•	Involvement of health providers,
•	Implementation within healthcare systems,
•	Health-related information,
•	Economic value of implementation.

In the Vision Paper, ICPerMed provides keys on how to cross personalised medicine barriers through essential and transversal pillars that will allow improved therapy, diagnostic and preventive approaches, as well as new healthcare concepts for the benefit of citizens and patients.

During the conference, ICPerMed will be committed to demonstrate the importance and the need to address personalised medicine challenges through the prism of these critical pillars focusing on data & technology, intersectoral synergies and education & literacy necessary to initiate the translation into healthcare systems. To this end, the conference will comprise keynote lectures focusing on the implementation of personalised medicine approaches into healthcare systems for the benefit of patients, citizens and the society as a whole. In addition, in a specific dedicated session, ICPerMed will feature and honour best practices in personalised medicine research through the ICPerMed Recognition 2020, that aims to recognise, encourage, promote and disseminate outstanding examples.

Further information about the conference, the venue and the Scientific Committee Panel are available here:

Friday 17 January, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall was in Washington at the invitation of His Excellency Philippe Etienne, France's Ambassador to the United States, to extend CNES's New Year wishes to the U.S. space community. He took advantage of his visit to meet Mike Gold, Associate Administrator for NASA's Office of International and Interagency Relations, and Scott Pace, Executive Secretary of the National Space Council.

At the CNES New Year wishes ceremony, Jean-Yves Le Gall underlined the historic funding secured for ESA programmes for 2020-2024 and the 14% increase in CNES's budget this year, which will enable it to consolidate its efforts in the four key domains where it is a long-time partner of the United States — in exploration, science, Earth observation and technology demonstrators — and to look forward to new partnerships on the back of its Science Survey Seminar in October 2019.

He then turned his attention to Mars exploration, with the stellar results of the InSight mission and its SEIS seismometer and the launch on 16 July this year of the Mars 2020 rover carrying the French SuperCam instrument. Looking further ahead, the future of Mars exploration is assured with the Mars Sample Return mission, in which the participation of the United States, Europe and France was confirmed in this year's budgets.

Jean-Yves Le Gall also highlighted the major programmes being pursued by NASA in which Europe and France are prime partners of the United States, with funding to extend operations on the International Space Station through to 2024 and the Artemis lunar exploration programme, through the Lunar Gateway and the delivery of two additional service modules for the Orion capsule. In Universe sciences, the United States is closely involved in several ESA missions, in particular LISA, Athena, ARIEL and LiteBIRD, for which NASA plans to provide CNES with key contributions.

After his meetings, Jean-Yves Le Gall commented: “The French Embassy's choice of the historic partnership between CNES and NASA to mark the cooperation between France and the United States as the illustration for its Season's Greetings card puts space at the heart of our two nations' diplomatic ties. The historic levels of funding approved by the European and U.S. administrations and put in place by our two nations for 2020 encourage us to pursue this historic cooperation: the show will go on!”

This meeting highlighted the close cooperation between CNES and JPL, embodying the historical relationship that has existed between France and the United States in the space field for more than 50 years. Emblematic programs have been successfully conducted, and others are underway, in the fields of Mars exploration like Curiosity, Insight, Mars2020, and Earth Sciences, with oceanography missions including Topex-Poseidon, Jason-A,2,3 and SWOT.

This visit was also an opportunity to meet about twenty French scientists among the forty or so working in the JPL teams, to discuss the long-term and strategic projection of the laboratory (composed of 6000 people) and to discover its exceptional facilities:

The objectives of this mission are to carry out the first global study of the Earth's surface waters, to observe the smallest details of the topography of the ocean surface and to measure the evolution of the Earth's surface water masses over time.

Ongoing developments at JPL, notably in collaboration with France, hold great promise for enriching our knowledge of space and Earth.

The Climate Action Summit took place from the 22nd to the 29th of September at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York. In this context, CNES was represented by its President, Jean-Yves Le Gall accompanied by Nicolas Maubert, Space Counselor of the Embassy of France in Washington D.C. Together they participated in several events promoting the major role played by space systems in supporting climate related actions.

On Sunday 22nd of September, the Space Applications for Climate Action conference took place in the presence of Maria Patek (Ministry of Development of Austria), Donatienne Hissard (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France), Chebet Maikut (Ministry of the Environment of Uganda), Simonetta Di Pippo (UNOOSA) and Lori Garver (Earthrise Alliance, USA). This event, organized by CNES and UNOOSA at the headquarters of the UNDP (United Nations Development Program), was an opportunity to emphasize the value and use of space data to monitor and predict climate evolutions. Among the 50 essential variables to monitor climate defined by the World Meteorological Organization, 26 come directly from space data. In this context, the Observatoire Spatial du Climat (SCO- Space Climate Observatory) created by CNES during the Paris Air Show in June 2019 was presented as an essential instrument of international cooperation and data sharing.

On Monday 23rd of September, UNOOSA organized a “Space4All” event on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly gathering the main public and private players of Space to remind the efforts led so that space data and applications are used and shared for the benefits of all, particularly emerging countries. Several private players presented their actions (Virgin Galactic, Maxar Technologies, Avio) in the presence of Jim Morhard (Deputy Administrator of NASA), Scott Pace (Executive Secretary of the National Space Council), Emanuela Del Re (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy) and Alexandre Chiteme (Ministry of Development of Zambia).
