Botona Dahican Beach Resort

Botona Dahican Beach Resort is one of the two private resorts that operate within the 7-kilometer stretch of white sand Dahican Beach. This is where my wife and I stayed when we celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary last October 28, 2010. Botona Dahican Beach Resort is located in Purok Maribojoc, Dahican, Mati, Davao Oriental. Set within the fully-fenced 2-hectare area are two European-inspired houses with two airconditioned rooms in each house. With only four rooms available for rent, the resort maintains its quiet and relaxing ambiance.

Each room has two queen size beds, toilet, hot and cold shower, a large closet and a table with drawers. You also have your own private terrace and a gallon of purified water in a dispenser. A television is placed in between the terraces of the two adjacent rooms for shared viewing. I didn't really mind that there is no TV inside our room since what we came here for is to enjoy the beach.

Each room has a terrace with table, chairs and purified water in dispenser.

According to Botona's website, room rates ranged from Php 1,500 to Phpp 1,800 per room but when we were there it is already Php 2,000.00. However, considering that each room is already good for 4 persons, then it is really not that expensive.

Caraga is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Davao Oriental, Philippines. According to the latest census, it has a population of 34,278 people in 6,171 households. The municipality is located 254 kilometers from Davao City, the growth center of Region XI and 84 kilometers from Mati, the capital town of the province of Davao Oriental on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines.
It lies in the Eastern coast of this province, streched along the Western lines of the Pacific Ocean.It is bounded in the North by the Municipality of Baganga in the South by the municipality of Manay, in the West by the Municipality of New Bataan, Davao Province, and on the East by the Pacific Ocean. It is the easternmost municipality of the Philippines.

Land Area: Caraga has a total land area 64,289 hectares, representing 12.45% of the total land area of the Province of Davao Oriental which has 516,446 hectares and seventeen (17) barangays.Barangay PIchon occupies tha largest land area with 16,300 hectares which are 25.35% of the total land area of the municipality, Barangay D.L Balante which is located in the southwest of Barangay Poblacion, is the smallest barangay with a land area of 975 hectares or 1.51% of the total land area of this municipality.

Sinigang Na Baboy

Estimated cooking and preparation time: 1 hour

Pork Sinigang Ingredients:

3/4 kilo Pork, cut into chunks
3 tomatoes, sliced
2 onions, diced
5 cloves of garlic, minced
100 grams Kangkong (river spinach)
100 grams String beans
2 pieces horse radishes, sliced
3 pieces gabi (taro), pealed
2 pieces sili pag sigang (green finger pepper)
200 grams sampalok (tamarind)
3 tablespoons of patis (fish sauce)
1 liter of rice wash or water

Sinigang Cooking Instructions:

Boil sampalok in water until the shell shows cracks. Let cool then peal off the shells and with a strainer, pour samplalok (including water) into a bowl. Gently massage the sampalok meat off the seeds, strain again.
In a pot, sauté garlic and onion then add the tomatoes. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
Add pork and fish sauce then add the rice wash. Bring to a boil then simmer for 15 minutes then add the gabi. Continue to simmer for another 15 minutes or until the pork is tender.
Add the horse radish and simmer for 10 minutes then add the string beans, kangkong and sili (for spice-optional). Let boil for 2 minutes.
Serve piping hot.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The digital age has left men's nether parts in a squeeze, if you believe the latest science on semen, laptops and wireless connections. In a report in the venerable medical journal Fertility and Sterility, Argentinian scientists describe how they got semen samples from 29 healthy men, placed a few drops under a laptop connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi and then hit download.

Four hours later, the semen was, eh, well-done.
A quarter of the sperm were no longer swimming around, for instance, compared to just 14 percent from semen samples stored at the same temperature away from the computer.

And nine percent of the sperm showed DNA damage, three-fold more than the comparison samples.
The culprit? Electromagnetic radiation generated during wireless communication, say Conrado Avendano of Nascentis Medicina Reproductiva in Cordoba and colleagues.

"Our data suggest that the use of a laptop computer wirelessly connected to the internet and positioned near the male reproductive organs may decrease human sperm quality," they write in their report.
"At present we do not know whether this effect is induced by all laptop computers connected by Wi-Fi to the internet or what use conditions heighten this effect."

A separate test with a laptop that was on, but not wirelessly connected, found negligible EM radiation from the machine alone.

The findings fuel concerns raised by a few other research teams.

More pictures after the jump. Going there from Mati City is 15-20 minutes with car and if you don’t have one, only motorcycles go there since the road is not paved.

Pujada island is at the center of Pujada bay,sandwiched between the fishing villages of Taganilao and Macambol,with a white sand beach and an undersea environs rich in marine life. Pujada Island is one of the best attractions found in Mati City, Davao Oriental. Located at the Eastern part of Mindanao, facing the wide vast water of Pacific Ocean. The island is about 156 hectares and 558 feet tall surrounded by the white sand and crystal blue sea. Its landscape shows innocence to mankind's innovation.
If you wanna visit here, all you need to have is a boat with hired boatman and a tour guide who would tour you around the island. You've got to have your food too for your own convenience because you can hardly find stores here, i doubt if you can find either. The island has no cottages but still you can have your meal under the shade of the trees.
