MAAC FT League Match 1 - Results 2nd Oct 2011

Today started the FT 2011/12 league series for FT. The league will consist of 6 matches through out the coming months. The best 3 matches out of 6 will determine the FT League championship for this year. So if you could not join us today dont worry still 5 matches remain.Today match saw 9 shooters participating. The course layout was well balanced and had some innovations which were appriciated by all the shooters present. The weather was fine but as usual wind starts on time of the competition start :).

The wind actually was tricky and took its toll as seen from the results.

Course Design - MAAC Rules.

To make it more clear to all.

The number of reducers to be used on League Matches must not exceed 55% of the number of targets.

We are using 15 lanes each containing 2 targets. The first round is 30 targets then we shoot lanes 1 till 10 for the extra 20 targets to complete 50 targets.

55% is 28 targets hence we need to have at least 1 reducer target per lane that will amount to 25 reduced targets which is within specification.

For nationals can have up to 70% reduced targets that is equivalent to 35 targets.

Now for reducer sizes.
30mm up to 40 meters - Free style targets
20mm up to 30 meters - Free style targets
15mm up to 20 meters - Free style targets
20mm up to 20 meters - for Standing and Kneeling
30mm up to 30 meters - for Standing and Kneeling

Positional Targets can be up to 40 meters.

Beyond 40 meters all targets must be 40mm for free style.
Beyond 30 meters all positional targets up to 40 meters must be 40mm.

The number of positional shots (standing or kneeling) must not exceed 20% which is 10 targets for a league competition. For nationals and international events this can go up to 30% or 15 targets.

This amounts to 27 Reduced (in spec) and 10 positional (in spec) out of 50 targets.

Info FT league - There are 6 Matches in total for the FT 2011/2012 League the best 3 scores will count for the Final rankings if the shooter participate in the Nationals and winners of the FT League.

Shooters will be graded for each class after each match as follows:
Grade A : 80+% = 40 + Targets Hit
Grade B : 70+ but below 80% : 35 to 39 Targets Hit
Grade C : 60+ but below 70% : 30 to 34 Targets Hit
Grade D : Below 60% : from 29 to 0 Targets Hit

The grading will serve as follows :
1. Indication of the shooter performance.
2. A system to encourage shooters in all grades.

Prizes in FT league Matches:
Each Match :
If more then 2 shooters are present per grade the 1st will get a medal.
If more the 4 shooters are present per grade the 1st , 2nd and 3rd will get a medal

Final FT League Match.
Top 1st , 2nd and 3rd over all after addition of the best 3 out of 6 matches will be awarded trophies for the 2011/2012 FT league. (max 150 Points)
1st From each grade will be presented special medal as top of grade. (max 150 Points)
FT Nationals Entry.
One can participate in the FT National for rankings only if he or she attended at least 3 FT League matches. If one did not participate in a minimum of 3 FT League matches he or she can still participate at the Nationals but will not qualify to be ranked for the top 5 shooters that will have possibility of sponsor for the WFTF world championships should the funds be available.

FT National Rankings are based on the best 3 scores from the FT league plus the scores obtained during the two National Events occurring on 11th March and 6th May respectively.
Prizes for FT Nationals.
Top 3 after final match on 6th May will be awarded Trophies. Scores from Nationals on 11th March and 6th May only (max 100 points)

The top 5 ranking for 2011/2012 will receive medal and MAAC Malta Team 2012 Shirt plus possibility of sponsor aid for attending WFTF Worlds 2012 if this is available. Scores from 11th March and 6th May plus best 3 FT League Matches. (max 250 points)

MAAC - Technical Document - Effects of Inclined Shooting.

We have prepared for you a document to aid you with inclined target shooting. We have a disadvantage because we are constantly shooting level targets, however this does not excuse us from being prepared. In WFTF Worlds you need to be prepared for ever thing.

When inclined shots get crazy you definitely need some sort of guide.

MAAC - FT Rules Update

Please find the updated version of the MAAC FT Rules R2 2011.

Several Items Changed on MAAC Committee decision.

1. Air rifle power tolerance of 5%.

2. Clinometers mechanical or electronic are possible to install on air rifles calculations however must use a manual method.

3. ISSF Shooting Jackets , Trousers and gloves are now ALLOWED.

4. MAAC FT league will be composed of 6 matches. The best 3 scores will be added to the Nationals (2 shots) for final ranking of Malta Team.

MAAC Announcment - 16/9/2011

Dear Members

This evening the MAAC committee held up a meeting to discuss very important issues for the future of our club and our sport. Below is a list of items discussed.

Leadership of MAAC

Stanley Shaw has resigned from club chairman with immediate effect and has handed over this role to James Bugeja former secretary. James Bugeja will be assisted by Gordon Gouder until the next General MAAC meeting were the chairman and committee are selected for the next two years.

Stanley will continue to assist James in some issues until December 2011.
The club license must be transferred from Stanley Shaw to James before end December 2011.
Stanley decided to end his assignment because is leaving Malta for the next few years.

The committee has to follow up two important issues.
A. Discuss with current VSR owner possibility of utilizing an adjacent venue for air rifle shooting, There are ongoing works and development in the area we are currently using and this is a treat to continue air rifle shooting. If needed we together with the owner must seek necessary permits to utilize this area. This area technically is more suitable for FT.

B. The committee will start to investigate what happened with the permits presented to MEPA re Hal Far shooting range and an other location in the South of Malta. According to our knowledge Hal Far was pending some issue and the committee will try to investigate further. There were ranges given within 2 weeks the permit to shoot air rifles, we cannot understand why our application is almost a year old now and still not granted.

MAAC - Airgun program

MAAC decided that the main focus will be Field Target sport. We will not put aside the other shooting sports including Airsoft and Paintball, but the main focus of the airgun group will be given to FT followed by Benchrest.

The committe has decided the following.
FIELD TARGET
a. There will be a total of 8 FT official matches starting from October 2011 till May 2012.
b. A competitor must apply to participate to an official match.
c. The last two matches April and May are the MAAC FT Nationals and there are obligatory for qualification to Malta team 2012 for Norway.
d. The competitor can shoot any number of matches form October till March and for qualifications the best 3 out of 6 are selected. Then the scores obtained in the Nationals are added.
e. During these official Matches there will be a grading system as used by EFTA. The grading will also be useful to en courage new shooters as prices will be according to gradings.
f. If the club has funds or is granted funds to assist shooters going to WFTF worlds the top 3 shooters form this overall grading will be used.

BENCH REST
A separate official program will be compiled for BR and this will be discussed with MSSF.

FT and BR
We have been present in Italy for he WFTF 2011 world championships. FT in Italy is growing rapidly including in Sicily our closest neighbor. MAAC will try to make contacts through Sicily for joint events in FT and BR in the near future. This will serve as training, competition and discovering other elements in FT and BR shooting.

In the next two weeks you will get the activity program for 2011.2012.
We hope to see more of you joining in the ranks.

Amendments in MAAC FT regulations.
There will be amendment to the MAAC FT regulations. We have seen that in WFTF worlds many countries and shooters just ignore this and nothing is done to control it. Hence from now on we will not prevent our shooters to utilize such equipment if they want to. These will be published by a new version asap. The amendments are the following.

a. All types of clothing can be worn including ISSF shooting Jackets and Trousers.

b. Another item to be amended is the tolerance of the Power of the air gun. The max power is 12ft lbs or 16.26 Jule a 5% tolerance above this limit is still acceptable. Hence if a gun power calculation is within 12.6 ft lbs or 17.o8 Jule then it is still accepted as a pass.

I would like to thank all of those members who gave us their support since the formation of the club. We did great leaps the only thing that stopped us from growing further was the locations were to shoot and were to have a decent club location. Although I'm now officially not the club chairman I will do my last attempts and efforts together with James and Gordon for pushing forward and ensuring continuation of what we started. Despite I will be thousands of miles away from this island I still would like to see continuation and improvements.

Malta WFTF 2011 - Outcome

This is the 2nd Time that Malta Participated in the WFTF Worlds. Unfortunately though Italy is only a stone trow away we had very few competitors willing to take this challenge. These international competitions are a mine of resources, which every field target shooter must challenge himself not just to compete and win but also to experience this sport with friends and colleges from all over the world.

This years event in Italy was quite a challenge to even the most experienced shooters in FT. Just to give you a quick idea, an average of 90% of the targets were long range over 40m. Anything closer then 40 was still beyond the 30m mark. There was only one target at 7m. Anything closer then 40 was reduced. And 95% of the targets were inclined shots uphill or down hill with inclinations that some times reached up to 60 degs. The target colors were not standard but Italy used some kind of Azzuri theme which is quite difficult to contrast with certain scopes, (mind you not just the cheaper scopes could not always range good within the dark spots of the forest). But despite this even if at a certain stage this gets you mad you will still learn from the challenge.

Only certain issues can make you feel down. When your equipment backs up on you then you feel sorry you could not continue the course and when more important things in life comprehend your plans. And that's what happened to three members of our team.

Gordon Gouder after long summer of preparation had to quit from attending the world in the last hours before the flight due to personal reasons. We would like to thank him for the support he showed to us in Italy despite his absence.

James Bugeja ending result was 74, James main problem was ranging in dark areas and inclined shoots but each day his score improved.

Ruth Gauci problems started from day 1. Her custom Steyer decided to go haywire and from 16J dropped to 7J. This could not be fixed nor supported by Steyer due to a custom. The second day Ruth had enough spirit of competition to shoot the rifle at 7J using 10X Magnification and Mil dots instead of X32, but of course this is an FT worlds and targets are not that easy. The spirit was lost for the 3'rd day but out of the Blues the Belgian Team offered her the Belgian Team spare air rifle EV2. Ruth took the challange but due to the fact that she never practiced Dialing in she was a couple of turns of and lost track.

I also started with a bad foot just one day before flying to Italy. My humble Daystate crash landed from the bench rest on to the concrete floor when I was just ready to go home to pack my air rifle. There was evident barrel offset and resetting was needed. This was done but I was not complete happy with the behaviour.

I shot my first day and although was not excellent compared to my Italian and Polish group mates I was ok and also got some pretty nasty targets. On the second day during the sight in I noticed that I was not getting groups and my rifle was doing different levels of sound during shots. The result was something between 3cm center to center due to power drop, barrel or scope but could not determine at that stage. This got worse on the track at times could see pellets falling as much as 2 or 3 meters short. During the course I re chronoed several times and found out I was shooting at 9 to 11.5 ftlbs. Erratic shots with 6 to 7 cm center to center.

I checked with Daystate and they were sure I had a sticky valve or guide hammer problems. But there was no time to fix nor the place to set quietly like we had in S.Africa. So that night I ended making a mess in my room cleaning components on the bed. I also changed scope just in case this had some damage and next morning I tried my luck on the zeroing range. The Rifle was hope less hence I decided to take the day off and retired from the event.

I followed my Maltese Team Mates and other friends in the shot. I was disappointed but not of attending the worlds.

2011-2012 Field Target Season.

This next FT season will see some changes and will be conducted according to the NEW MAAC FT Core Rules that was just finalized this week. MAAC FT Core Rules

The season will be composed of MAAC FT league and MAAC FT Nationals.

League Matches.
There will be a number of FT Competitions (6+) as part of the league series.
Each Match will be logged and each competitor score will be recorded. The best 6 scores will be added to decide the 2011-2012 league winner on the last Match. This is to give every one the possibility to participate even if cannot attend all the Matches.

For each match the competitor will also be graded and an average grade will be automatically settled upon 6 matches irrespective of the number of matches the shooter attended.
The gradings are as follows :
Grade A shooters 80% Plus
Grade B shooters 70 - 79 %
Grade C shooter 60 - 69%
Grade D shooter up to 59%

Grading is required to promote better this sport and give chance to every one.
Because if the number of entries to a competition are adequate then prices can be set for grades and classes. Each Competition will have 2 standard classes PCP and Spring, other classes can be included.

Nationals.
The Nationals will be the peak of the MAAC FT season, this will be set on 2 or 3 matches that can be done in separate weekends. For one to qualify for the Malta team 2012, he/she must have at least took part in 3 league matches during the year. Others who did not participate this minimum may participate but only for the price and not the Malta Team Colors. The National Scores plus the best 3 scores from the League will be added for the TOP 5 Ranking irrespective of entry class.

The season competition schedule will be published in September and competitions will start in October 2011.

Dear All,

The program of air rifle events for the 2010/2011 season have been concluded. The committee would like to thank all the participants for supporting our events and all the helpers that prepared for these events. The air rifle committee will in the following weeks prepare the new schedule of events for year 2011/2012.

The last event that will be organized event before summer kicks in will be the one day paintball tournament which will be held on Saturday 25th June 2011 at the Extreme Paintball Range in Ta'Qali next to MFCC. We urge all MAAC members to come and watch/support this event.

Later 4 shooters from our club will be participating in the WFTF world championships in Italy on the 2nd , 3rd and 4th of September 2011 and we wish them all the good luck.

While we wish you and your families a beautiful summer we remind you that the range time on Sundays will be as usual.

MAAC Paintball - MOPL tournament

MAAC Paintball will organize the first Malta Official Paintball League.

This will be a 1 day league as a trial with 8 , 5 men teams in aid of Puttinu Cares.

The tournament will take place at the Extreme Paintball Range in Ta'Qali of Saturday 25th June 2011.

Each team entry fee is Euro 175 or Euro 35 per individual which will include all the equipment for players not owning any paintball equipment and minimum grantee of 8 games.

The kit includes :

Paintball full head mask.

Neck protector

Overall

Vest

Marker

CO2

Paintballs.

Each team will be also given 2500 rounds of paint. Extra paint can be pre ordered at a special discount rate of Euro 60 per box of 2000 on team registration. Extra paint will be available on the field at Euro 75 per box of 2000 or Euro 20 for 500.

The tournament is open to team and individuals. Any one interested and do not have a team of 5 friends may register and we will couple you in teams. Age 18 + if no TS-B available then must sign forms as presented by Extreme Paintball Commercial Range.

Shooters that have their own equipment must have a TS-B shooter license and show that the marker is registered. All private Markers and Extreme Paintball Markers will be chronoed and must confirm the speed limit of 280ft/s .

The tournament will kick off a 9am and all registered players must be at location around 8am.

The estimated time to finish is 18:00 hrs. Food and Drinks will be available at the venue. General public and members of MAAC are invited to attend even if not to participate.

The aim is to attract people into this sport but in the same time to help out with Puttinu Cares campaign.
