A friend sent me an iMessage which I did not receive on my MBP, so I followed the steps suggested in a previous thread:

Then go into Messages on your iPad and make sure you can see the number in the send/receive messages list. You may need to toggle iMessage off and on to refresh.

You can be reached by iMessage at:
Which has my cell phone and 3 email addresses (gmail, iCloud and me) shows the cell phone number check marked but greyed out.

On my iPad the settings are the same but the phone number is not greyed out

Just curious why that is.

Plus, on another note: if I send an iMessage from my iPhone to someone but they are not online should the message not revert to an SMS (I have the Send as SMS when iMessage is unavailable...)? A friend sent me an iMessage but I did not receive until I was back within wifi coverage. Would have liked to have gotten that message as an SMS.

I hope there's a solution to this, but there may not be since it's a special problem. I have a macbook pro that gets fine wifi reception across my house in my room. However, my phone's wireless card isnt as good obviously and drops the wifi altogether at times. My plan was to use the wifi from my mac, do a little internet sharing (create a mini wifi network around my mac while still taking from our house wifi), and bam my phone has consistent wifi. Is there a way to do this? Natively? Apps? My phone's bluetooth is NOT compatible with my mac.

I don't think theres a simple way to do it on my computer since this problem probably doesnt occur often I'm sure. When they made the internet sharing function, it wouldnt have made sense to take wifi and make another wifi network w it. But anyways, trying my chances.

Thanks in advance

Hello all,

I work at a recycling depot and today we received a Mac G5 in beautiful condition. The owner had removed the hard drive but said that the machine works fine. I installed a new HDD and It turns on fine and makes the startup sound but nothing is being displayed on my screen. I suspect this is due to the fact that the 1st monitor output on the motherboard is an ADC output, and I am using the second which is DVI. Can anybody vouch for this? ADC seemed to have been short lived I can't find an answer on google. Any other suggestions greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Hi everybody,

So I have a old 2008 macbook that I use for travel and let family and friends use for whatever. So basically it's my backup that I don't worry about.

It's running extremely slow and shuts down safari all the time. Rainbow wheel regularly. I also think it's been used to stream movies/tv shows from questionable sources, but I'm not sure. The fan constantly runs on it.

So I'm wondering what I should do to help it run better as it's pretty annoying to use when I'm traveling. I'd just use my regular computer, but I cross the border a lot and I've had friends have to give passwords over to their computers. So I bring a computer where there is nothing on it even if they get onto it. Not that I have anything crazy, but they don't need to be looking at my personal documents. Or moving stuff and deleting stuff by accident.

Here are the details:
System: Leopard OS X 10.5.8
Intel Core 2 Duo
2.2 GHz
1 processor
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz

There aren't any personal files on it. My desktop is empty, my folders are empty, etc... So I'm not concerned about losing anything.

Would a erase and reinstall help? Something else?

I'm pretty computer stupid, so speak slowly and in simple terms! :)

Thanks for any help.

Hi, AF! I'm new here, but it doesn't look like anybody covered this question yet.

A couple of months back, I accidentally deleted my Adium chat logs (via the Transcript Viewer, if I remember correctly). All I remember is that the files were dumped in my trashcan, after which I immediately went ahead to retrieve them in a new folder on my desktop. I wasn't able to view the chat logs in Adium's Chat Transcript Viewer anymore after that--I'd click on the .chatlog files, and it would bring up the Chat Transcript Viewer, but not the chat record itself.

I left it aside for a few months as I didn't have time to really look into it. Coming back to it now, I'm trying to consolidate everything again (old and new chat logs). My recent chats since the "deleting accident" have been logged, but I can't seem to find the actual folder on my system where they're being logged. They're not in Library>Application Support>Adium 2.0>Users>Default>Logs as I've read a couple of posts say to check out (no folder exists in Application Support other than an Adobe folder). Yet, my recent chats continue to be recorded...somewhere.

Tried hitting ".chatlog" in the Spotlight search. Looks like only the files in the folder I created from the deleting incident are there. (Do all chat logs have this file format anyway?)

I actually realized just now that a handful of old chat logs before the incident are visible on the Chat Transcript Viewer--but not all of them. Something peculiar I noticed on the list when looking at logs for a single contact, however, are that there are a couple of "holes"--a line would show the "To" and "From," but not the date when the chat occurred. Is this related?

I fun Adium 1.5.6 on Mac OS X Version 10.7.5. I don't know if that helps, haha.

Hi,
I have a MacPro Xeon 64-bit workstation, with 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 16 Gig RAM, 1066 MHz, running OS X 10.7.5. This computer is acting as the server for my 5 iMacs, in my periodontal practice. I am using a dental management software, called MacPractice DDS.

I am in the process of upgrading the version of MP DDS. While doing the upgrade, I get a dialogue box, that tell me I should turn File Vault on.

I did it, and restarted the Server MacPro. I did this Friday evening around 5. I waited for a bit, while the tick marks spun, like one sees during a normal restart. I came back at 5, this evening, only to find it still spinning.

Should it take over 24 hours to restart? I ended up turning it off with the button and just starting it back up. I can access everything, but I'm wondering if turning FileVault is worth the trouble.

Thanks
