I've been on utility disk to try and repair disk permission but I can't because the button isn't lit up. I can only click on verify disk or repair disk. I tried both of these but it still wont come on the drop down menu. It is showing up on the left in the event library but it has a little yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark in it.

My mini was a 32bit intel CoreDuo now upgraded to Core2Duo, new firmware and 4 (3) gigs of memory. It originally came with Tiger. I upgraded to Leopard about 3/4 years ago and did a clean install of Snow Leopard on a new partition a few months ago, also restoring my Leopard files from the time machine backup.

I've recently started compiling music tracks and to my surprise found that Garageband was there in Applications. I assumed that it wouldn't be as I realised a while back that it was preinstalled software. I've always thought this was a bit strange - upgrade the OS and lose applications - but then Apple is a bit quirky to say the least.

Anyway, this was never an issue until I needed Garageband. As I say I didn't expect it to work and don't know how it got there. It's version 4.1.2 (08) and it seems to work. I'm only learning to use it so I won't know for a while.

My first question is whether there's a more up to date version of Garageband that works with snow leopard and with Lion as I plan to upgrade again soon. And if there is, does it offer improved features that are worthwhile? And where to get it.

My second question is more a minor tech issue really. Was Garageband in the back-up I restored? Is that how Time Machine works?

I also seem to have ilife 08 on the mini but I can't recall how or why.

Thanks

Hello guys

I have always wondered why the Youtube video interface is so different on Safari than on Chrome and other web browsers? I have recently started using Safari as my main browser after getting the latest update because simply it has become awesome - quick, snappy, lag-free, extremely responsive and most of all great features.

I wouldn't want to stop using Safari as my main browser because of a silly little thing like that, but in all honesty it's very annoying for me. I did find this extension called YouTube5 under Safari preferences and I disabled it, but no go.

I have uploaded two screenshots of how it looks on Safari and how it looks on Chrome. I want the Chrome look.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Last week I swapped my 500G internal for a new 1TB internal. Before I did that, I cloned my internal with SuperDuper. Then I switched HDDs and migrated everything over. No issues. So now I have a new 1TB internal with about 600G free.

Tonight I hooked up my regular Time Machine to the MBP. It didn't automatically start backing up, like it used to. I figured it was "used" to the old internal, so I manually selected my new internal and it started to backup..... the entire drive. Not an incremental backup (probably about 30 gigs). I checked the contents of the Time Machine external, and all the old TM backups are there, perfect and accessible. Why won't it scan my new internal and back up only the changed or new files?

Hello there

I am running Mac OS X Mountain Lion version 10.8.4 and I feel like my computer has definitely slowed down and sort of lags from time to time than when I first got it, or to be more specific, than when I last made a fresh install of Mountain Lion (which was when it first came out).

It now takes a little bit of time to open and close applications, especially Chrome, Safari, iTunes and iPhoto, and I know that because it used to be much quicker when I first installed Mountain Lion.

I am using a mid-2010 MacBook Pro and these are the specifications:

Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB
Software OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)

The specifications are fairly low compared to today's computers, but I believe they are enough for a lag-free and snappy Mac experience, or am I wrong? I came across CleanMyMac and it claims to clear all registry related problems and such, as well as remove useless files and cache located on the computer. I am unsure about the safety of it, though, because in the past, I have had registry-cleaning applications on my Windows pretty much mess it up.

There's also one called Onyx which was recommended on Apple Support Forums:

https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11582/onyx

What do you guys think?

Thank you.

- - I've had an iMac for 2 1/2 years and use Entourage for Email. Eight months ago all messages stopped coming to my Inbox and starting going to one of the other folders I'd created (Newsletters). I cancelled all my rules, then started over. The rules worked but anything without a rule still goes into the Newsletters folder.

I did a test by making a rule that anything from my husband's address to mine would go to the Inbox. Didn't work. The Inbox isn't overloaded. Only about 25 messages in there.

- - We have a lot of rules for specific people, my volunteer job, catalog companies, etc. Recently I added four more rules and they don't work. I can do Message/Apply Rule, select the rule from a list and the system will move the message to the proper folder - but it won't put it there in the first place.

So - two questions:
1. How do I get my Inbox to receive mail?
2. How do I get my Rules to work? (Maybe there's a maximum number of rules allowed and I've exceeded my lifetime quota.)

Thanks!!

So, on my Mac mini, I've reinstalled OS X Lion.

Now, just this past weekend, I've done the same on my MacBook.

With that in mind:

I've backed up the MacBook to a Time Machine drive.

From the Time Machine drive, I had OS X Lion pull all the content to create a new account.

And now that it's up and running, Safari is now crashing at version 5.1.7.

I'll mention that after everything was up and running, and after a few runs with Software Update, I figured a Safari update would also appear - but it didn't and it hasn't as I type this. Safari on my MacBook is 6.0.5. So how did it end up at 5.1.7 on the Mac mini?

When I click to run Safari on the Mac mini, it jumps, tries to open, and then a prompt box tells me that Safari has suddenly quit, and it gives me the option of reporting it to Apple and whatnot - it was in the Details view that I found out that Safari was stuck at 5.1.7.

So how do I go about fixing this?

(Mac mini specs: early 2009, Intel Core 2 Duo [2.0GHz], originally ran Mac OS X Snow Leopard when new)
