Pixma Printer Trouble

I know this is a topic which has been covered quite a bit already on here but I have a specific problem which I can't seem to find an answer to.

I'm running snow leopard on my macbook and trying to use my new canon pixma mp490.

I have downloaded the drivers from the website and it would appear my computer has successfully acknowledged and added both the scanner and the printer. I can print straight from the scanner and I can scan an image onto my computer but when I try to print an image from my computer I keep getting the error that the printer is "offline". If anyone could help me out here I would be forever grateful.

Time Capsule worth it?

As I have stated in other recent posts I am new to the Mac, and wanted to know how well the Time Capsule worked or if it is just worth getting a WD external to back up my data on.

Apple Magic Mouse

New to the Mac world and just got my first MBP. I wanted to get some opinions on Mice and the Magic Mouse itself.

First I like to do a little gaming every now and then on my laptops and I wanted to see how this mouse holds up to other gaming type mice such as logitech devices.

But mostly my notebook will be for work and school.

Plus it looks like a fun mouse to use and get used to.

Which Smart UPS for MacPro 3.33GHz?

I will be getting a MacPro 3.33GHz soon, and need to find the right Smart UPS system that will allow the MacPro to automatically save and shut down.

I've been searching through the specs on many Smart UPS systems and have found very few that list Mac OSX on the system requirements.

Epson tx110 scanner wont work

Hi

The scanner on my epson tx110 printer/scanner is not working. It was OK two weeks ago. The photocopy function works and so does the printer but when I press the scan button nothing happens. The printer utility tells me there is no scanner connected when I look at that.

Is it possible to reload a driver on a mac? What other solutions might there be? On my old pc I would have reloaded the driver and all would probably be ok but with the mac I just had to plug the unit in and it started working straight away so I am a bit clueless as to where to go from here.

Any help gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance.

250GB WD mybook (yellow circle)

Hi all,

I own a 3+ year old WD mybook 250GB with yellow circle on the case. Now, it has never had a problem, and doesn't look like it will fail soon (touch wood).

IF it was to fail on me, would I be able to replace the drive inside, say... to a 1TB or 2TB drive? Are there specifications of what can/cannot be upgraded and what speeds/chache they have to be?

I've done multiple google searches, but nothing specific has turned up, just how to open the case...

It would really help me decide on a HD purchase if I knew whether I could upgrade a case I already own or not.

Grrrrrr at WD drives

So today the software for my WD My Book HDD's prompts me to update the firmware. Ok, no problem I thought. Downloaded the update, updated the first drive...perfect. Hooked up the second drive, did the update, and now the drive appears to be dead. The power light comes on when I plug it in, and I can hear the drive, but it is not seen by OS X or the WD Software.

I did plug it in to my partner's PC, and Windows prompted to install drivers for it. I didn't go any further with it on the PC, hoping there is some way to revive the drive. I filed a ticket with WD, as the drive is only one month old, so hopefully they will have some ideas of will replace the drive under warranty (not really holding my breath on that one).

Sorry for the rant...just had to vent. This was the drive I had all my data on too. I should be able to restore some of it by salvaging the HDD's from my dead PC and putting them in my partner's so no all is lost. I'm really thankful though that it wasn't my Time Machine drive that went south.

Cloned external HD won't boot

Hello everyone,

I have a powerPC G4 mac mini. I cloned an external HD (Seagate 500G for MAC) to use as my bootable drive because there was hardly any space on the original mini. Everything has been working fine for the past year. I recently blew a fuse in my apartment and when I tried to fix it from the breaker I blew a circuit inside the enclosure. I took the Seagate drive to Futureshop and they were able to retrieve all of my information and save the HD itself. I went out and purchased a Macally enclosure with a firewire port that is compatible with Mac OSX. The mini recognizes the external drive and all of my info is still on there but I can't boot from it anymore. I've tried a couple of thing to rectify the issue

1. System preferences - start up drive - selected the external drive as the drive to restart from. Computer restarts but not from the external HD

2. I held down the option key while the mini loaded up and waited for the screen to pop up that allows you to choose which drive to boot from. The external drive is NOT recognized as a bootable drive from there

3. I have reinstalled leopard on the external HD and tried steps 1 & 2 again but it still did not work.

Has anyone had this issue before? Any suggestions?

Wireless Keyboard

I bought my 21.5 in imac a couple of weeks ago. Coming from a PC there are a few things that are bugging me. Why on earth isn't there an actual delete key? what about home and end keys? I'm thinking I might switch to the wired keyboard so that I can have the number pad also, but I only get 4 USB ports. I'm already considering a wired mouse because my magic mouse is starting to get jumpy, and from what i've been able to find it looks lit might be a blue tooth issue. That brings me down to two USB ports only.

I didn't mean to start venting on the USB issues, i'm just kind of bugged with this keyboard.

Which UPS System for Mac Pro?

I will be getting a Mac Pro 3.33GHz soon, and need to find the right UPS System. I will be connecting the Mac Pro with an external HD.

I want to have a UPS system that will provide protection for the above devices, with enough protection to spare for several other devices (a second external HD, iBook G4, and an older computer, SE/30)

Also, I need a UPS system that will automatically save, then shut down, for times I'm not at the computer during a power outage.

Any suggestions? I'd like to keep the price around $200-300 if possible.

Help no bluetooth after hard disk reformat!!!

Newbie here.. I have a imac g5 and i reformatted the hard disk with a new leopard disk..dont have the original disks..so i purchased one..now i dont have bluetooth..BEFORE REFORMATING THE BLUETOOTH WORKED..ive never reformatted a mac..do i need something that did not come with the leopard disk..I also have done all the software updates with no luck fixing this issue..thanks in advance..

RAID with LIAN LI ex-50 doesn't work

hi there,
having decided to go for an external raid system I've found the Lian LI EX-50 which houses up to 5 drives.
I've put 2 seagate barr. 1.5 TB and 2 seagate barr. 1.0 TB in and now the trouble starts.
when I power it up, it shows all four drives mounting( green lights) for like 10 sec.
then with a short blink of red 3 of them go out and one stays on.
this is the one that mounts on the desktop.
the others dont show up at all.
I'm on an OWC internal ESATA adapter and my other ESATA disks that I occasionally connect through that all work perfectly fine.
also the software that comes with the EX50 (JMraid setup) says .
could it be that I need a port multiplier or something like that?
any Ideas ?

Certain shortcuts don't work with Logitech Mac DiNovo keyboard

The shortcuts that have EJECT as a part of the combination don't work. There might be other shortcuts that don't work too, but this is what bothers me most.

The eject button does work on its own, and I'm not sure if the problem is related to the keyboard since it's the only keyboard I've used with this mac... I tried looking at all the preferences, etc. but I found nothing that helped. Ideas are appreciated.
