A Day at Cat Cafe

I'm a huge animal lover. HUGE.

Now in a fight between cats and dogs, I would definitely choose dogs because of their personality (plus they don't give me bad allergies as cats do) but this does not mean that I love cats as well.

Just recently, our pet cat passed away (we suspect that he had been poisoned), so my sister and I miss him terribly, so we decided to visit the cat cafe near our place (which is literally just a few minutes walk from our place).

The place is called Miao Cat Cafe and is located along Congressional Avenue above or next to Cake2Go (they're at the second floor of the same building). Because their signage is just a simple painting plus it's relatively small especially compared to the logos of the different establishments within the area, Miao Cat Cafe isn't really something you would notice unless you were walking past the place or were caught in traffic along the area. I hope they would upgrade to a light up signage so that it would pop out more. The doorway and stairs leading to Miao Cat Cafe are pretty dim so I initially thought that they were closed at the time that we inquired.

My sister and I first went to Miao Cat Cafe last Sunday to inquire. Apparently the customers are asked go in 2 hour shifts so that the place would not be overcrowded. You could make reservations at their Facebook page, or come at anytime and declare yourself as a walk-in customer as long as you follow their schedule below:

My sister and I visited Miao Cat Cafe yesterday at 2PM, November 20. I feel the need to mention that going up to the cat cafe, even just a few steps up their stairs, you'd definitely know that there are a lot of cats up there. The smell is so strong. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't too foul of a scent, but if you're someone who's actually had a cat, the smell is all too familiar and it isn't exactly something you would want to wear as a perfume unless you're a crazy cat lady.

There's a 300-peso fee for adults which is inclusive of 1 order of food and 1 drink of your choice. For kids, it's only 150Php but it's only inclusive of 1 item from their menu. There a set of rules that you're supposed to follow at Miao Cat Cafe (ie, sanitize before entering the area, do not carry the cats, do not play with them while they are eating or sleeping, etc). Pretty much basic rules on how to keep the cats from being aggressive.

Their staff are very accommodating and friendly which is perfect because I'm the type of person who would always ask for recommendations before actually ordering anything. Because we already had lunch prior to our visit, I decided to try out their desserts while my sister decided to go for their Party of Fries with Chicken Fillet. I ordered their Cake of the Day which was a cute slice of rainbow cake. For drinks, I got the Strawberry Milkshake (their bestseller) while my sister went for the Tiramisu Frappe (an additional 20-peso charge was required for their Frappes). The food was fine, nothing spectacular, but good enough for the price considering you get to hang our with dozens of cute fur-babies.

As a pet lover, I personally loved Miao Cat Cafe. There were so many cats to play with. It just sucks that you aren't allowed to pick up the cats because I wanted to cuddle with them so badly. One downside to cat cafes are that cats are pretty fickle and are almost always napping. Keeping their rules in mind, there aren't really much cats to play with and not a lot of them are in the mood to play. There are only a few cats in the cafe that are actually in to hugs. My sister and I got lucky because one cat walked up on us for a cuddle. Cutest moment ever.

If you're the type of person who isn't too fond of kids or would want a more peaceful atmosphere, I'd recommend you visit them at their later time slots because when we visited Miao Cat Cafe at 2 in the afternoon, there were a lot of kids in the cafe, which I don't really mind since I love kids. However, I would understand why people would prefer not having a lot of kids around since the area of the cafe wasn't exactly big and having kids run all around the place is kind of distracting for you and the cats.

They also have a whole wall of merchandise for you to choose from which is purrfect for every cat lover (see what I did there?). Wasn't able to take a picture of it all though, sorry 'bout that.

My sister and I absolutely loved Miao Cat Cafe. The only problem we had was that my sister and I have allergies, and my sister had it worse. Her skin got red and blotchy and her nasal passages were partially blocked. However, she felt the experience was worth it and she loved Miao Cat Cafe so much that she still wants to visit them again, so that's something to consider. I mean the cats looked like stuffed toys! So cute and fluffy!

Review: Essence Fix & Matte Translucent Loose Powder

Do you have oily skin? Because I do. I can't use liquid foundation alone. I always have to top it off with powder. I usually use my Maybelline Clear Smooth All in One Foundation for more coverage, but I've heard that loose powders work best since they're finely milled.

I've tried the Nichido Finishing Powder and I think it's okay but it doesn't really last that long and it may fade away in blotches so it looks weird. However, when you use the Nichido powder alone, it's great. It has that milky smell that I actually like. I sometimes even use it for my hair when my roots are oily.

So I've researched about mattifying loose powders that are affordable but are still of good quality and I found that this Essence Fix & Matte Translucent Loose Powder and the ELF HD Powder had great reviews. However, some complained about the ELF powder since it caused them to break out or that the velvety finish would not last long and would instead make them look blotchy or something. On the other hand, I wasn't too sure about the Essence one either since there weren't too many reviews BUT all the reviews that were available gave it a perfect score.

I had the option to either buy the ELF powder from a seller online since it was not available in the Philippines or to go to SM Makati and buy the Essence powder. Of course I ended up getting this one since it was more available, it had better reviews and it was much more affordable. (the ELF powder was over 300 pesos while the Essence one was around 250 php)

SO HERE'S MY REVIEW:

I LOVE IT. It is finely milled so it makes pores less visible and it is just easy to apply. It does last long. However, it's incredibly hot here in the Philippines right now so it does not completely keep the oil at bay but it still does the job. IT DOES NOT COME WITH A POWDER PUFF. This means that it's gonna be messy when you bring it with you everywhere since holes inside the jar will not be sealed or covered. However, you can buy your own powder puff and just put in the jar. I actually used the one that was included in my Nichido Finishing Powder.

Like I said it is affordable at only around 250Php and it's available in SM Megamall, SM Makati, and SM Mall of Asia so it isn't available in all SM branches BUT it is a new brand here so they might open stalls in different malls soon as well. *Here's to hoping* Also, this product did not break me out. YAY!

You can apply this with either a flat top brush or a powder puff, but I like using a powder puff for a more even distribution, plus I think that doing so may distribute more product on to your face. But don't worry, it isn't cakey at all.

ONE EYED MONSTER

Over a year ago, we did this a play at school where I played a ghost who had no eye. So the makeup is pretty bloody, but despite my weird fear of blood, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED DOING IT. I won't be able to post the tutorial today, but I'll show you the finish product. Note that these pictures were taken over a year ago. I also did my friend's makeup but I didn't have to cover her eye since she was just an extra in the play.

HELLO EVERYBODY!

So sometime this month, our class will be doing a musical play for our finals in our Film course.

It's kinda weird that we're doing this live even though it's a FILM class.

Weird.

Anyway, our professor chose Cats for our section.

I know right.

I don't like Cats. It bored me loads when I watched it as a child, and that's bad 'cause I LOVE MUSICALS. AND I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE THE OTHER SECTION GOT LES MIS. I WANTED TO BE FANTINE/EPONINE. :(

Sooooooooo... This post is obviously inspired by the musical chosen for us (which I disapprove of. My classmates and I tried convincing our professor to change the play, but he wouldn't budge. ugh.)

This isn't the actual makeup that we're gonna do on stage of course. This is just a cute kitty version that you can wear on Halloween or some random costume party or whatever.

I'm gonna post the pictures first then I'll post the instructions on a later date because I'm hella busy.

REVIEW RANT: Ever Bilena Advance BB Cream (Anti Wrinkle)

EVER BILENA PRODUCTS ARE NOT GOOD FOR MY SKIN.

I've tried to love Ever Bilena, but whenever I buy their products (especially those you apply on your face/cheeks) I always get a negative reaction. I still like their duo eye shadows though since they are very pigmented.

From the start, I was already doubting their BB Cream since I've already had bad history with their blushes. It left me with lots of bumps and rashes on my cheeks. So I sent a private message to Ever Bilena's Facebook Page to inquire about their BB Cream, asking if it was closer to American BB creams or the Asian kind (since, if you've noticed, American BB creams are more similar to tinted moisturizers while Asian BB Creams actually regenerate the skin more effectively) and asked if it was suitable for sensitive skin since I was scared of breaking out.

Here's what they replied:

Ever Bilena Cosmetics Inc.

BB Creams originated in Korea, so our BB Creams are leaning towards the craze that the Koreans started, plus, our endorser for the BB Creams is Grace Lee who is Korean. Its formula is dermatologically tested and vitamin E enriched so you won't have to worry about breaking out. But of course, every cosmetic item has different effects on different people. The anti-wrinkle and whitening benefits work in as fast as three weeks. Hope the product works for you. Thanks!

So I took their word for it and gave it a try.

WORST. DECISION. EVER.

First of all, it had this weird floral scent to it. The smell was similar to that of cheap makeup you could find in small kiosks where ever or "sa tabi tabi lang" (like in Divisoria, Market! Market! or Quiapo). In short, it smelled a lot like those Made In China makeup. The ones in palettes that you could by for just 35 pesos. The scent bothered me A LOT. It made it seem cheap, not inexpensive.

But the coverage was good. It was a bit too white for me, but with a bit of blush and bronzer you could still pull it off. The coverage was medium-full and matte, which I liked since most BB Creams do not have enough coverage and could make you look all oily and shiny.

Packaging was ordinary. Liked the shape but the material looked cheap to me. I liked the purple one better but I didn't want to use anything that was whitening.

However I still dislike this product since this broke me out. It has paraben. Bad. I had small bumps and pimples all over, it was just like how my skin looks like whenever I'm about to get my period. Not good. Thank God Garnier was there to save my skin from further break outs.

BB creams are supposed to help clear out your skin, not make worse.

So if your skin is sensitive to products which contain paraben, STEER CLEAR FROM THIS PRODUCT. You have been warned.

So this being said, I definitely WILL NOT REPURCHASE.

I actually have another version where I used watercolors and white textile paint (I ran out of white watercolors, so I had to work with what I had haha)

My Love for Makeup: How it started

When I was a kid, I already had a job. I was a kiddie model then. I posed for photos, did commercials and walked down runways. This being said, I was all made up and prettified... and I loved it. I loved how hair and makeup and the right clothes can enhance the way you look or can make you look like a totally different person. However, even though I loved makeup and dressing up, I never actually bothered to make myself up on a daily basis.

Until one day.

I was 12 and I had the biggest crush on this guy from school. He was the popular guy and I was known more as the model who didn't actually act like a model (I was kind of weird and shy plus I never brushed my hair or bothered with my looks). Still, despite my everyday lazy look, he got my number from a friend and started texting me on a daily basis.

One day, I was going through my mom's makeup collection and she had this lip gloss (Loreal Glam Shine clear lip gloss) which was packaged so differently from the others. I found it cute and it was clear, so it showed off my natural lip color, so I asked my mom if I could keep it. She said yes.

I decided to wear the gloss to school the next day, and all the girls raved about it and said that I was FINALLY growing up. (nagdadalaga na). I didn't think much of it until my crush texted me this:

"nga pala... mas gumanda ka ngayon a." (by the way... you look prettier today)

AND THAT DID IT. I was hooked. I was thankful to this little tub of gloss for getting my crush's attention. Haha!

Usually what comes up is news ('Senegal wins' in presidential election, Macky Sall says in victory ...) or some some random post in Facebook (Macky says HI to his gfs :))

BUTTERFLY Liner (Aido Liquid Liner Review)

I was bored one night so I did this butterfly liner thing. It ended up pretty cute. The liquid liner that I used was from a set from Aido Cosmetics which cost me just 100Php. It came with the blush-eye shadow palette. If you buy this individually, I think it's about 60Php. So it was a given that it wouldn't be that pigmented and that it wouldn't last long. It definitely was not waterproof. It isn't smudge proof either. You can take it off real easy. DEFINITELY WILL NOT BUY IT AGAIN. I can buy other liners with much better quality, and though it won't be as cheap, it would be better worth the money.

ZOMBIE MODE: An updated zombie tutorial

Remember when I tried to make myself look like a zombie with the help of some drugstore makeup? If you don't, click here.

Well I did it again.

This time I added some fake blood (used red food coloring, water, coffee, flour) and darker black eye shadow (Shawil Mono Eye Shadow- 69Php) around my eyes, and on the contours of my face (just like how you normally contour it: nose bridge, below the cheek bones, jaw, temples) and on that small (line) area between my nose and mouth.

The other version was the tamer,beginner zombie while this one is the wild,scary, crazy zombie. :D

Is this scary enough for ya?

REVIEW: Snoe Hard Candy Lip Color

So I was supposed to meet my friend a while back at Trinoma. But, as usual, he was running REALLY late... so I decided to stop by Landmark for a while and check out their goods. I was able to buy this AMAZING flat top brush which is just perfect for liquid foundations for just 145Php, and a deep plum lipstick which came in a set from L.A. Colors which also had a lipliner and lip gloss in a pot (all priced at around 125Php -3 for the price of one: SUCH A STEAL!)

AND LOOK! IT'S A KEY CHAIN!

Loved the packaging. Can you spot the lips in the middle. I traced it out for you guys to see. Teehee.

I got this at the Snoe (Pronounce like No way) Stall at Landmark. The sales assistant said that it was works as 3 products: cream eye shadow, lip stain, and cheek tint. It had this chocolate-y smell to it. Probably because of the 3rd color.

So here are the swatches:

L-R: Bubble gum, Strawberry Shake, Milk Chocolate.

Bubblegum is this perky, playful pink. Strawberry Shake is actually redder in person. While Milk Chocolate turned out to be a coral shade. It's incredibly pigmented. It may be a little TOO pigmented because it stains the fingers but it's hard using a lip brush to transfer the product. But I don't really mind.

TIP! I actually used this as a cheek stain as well. I used my ELF Foundation brush to apply it on my cheeks and then blended it out with my fingers (by dabbing). So well worth the money!

PROS:

well-pigmented (a little goes a long way)
the colors are just plain beautiful
You get 3 colors & 3 purposes for 1 item!

it's handy (the key chain factor just makes it much more adorable)
inexpensive (Price: 158 Php!)

2 days ago my cousin offered my a makeup gig for his org at school. All I had to do was make him and his classmates look like zombies. It sounded a lot like fun so I decided to go with it. I'll be doing it this wednesday, but I got so excited I decided to try it on myself last night! :))

So here's my zombified look:

As you can see, I still need to buy a good black eyeshadow that's super pigmented (and preferably cheap :P) So I'll be buying that tomorrow from Shawill cosmetics. I know their shadows are really cheap (69 php) and they're VERY pigmented.

How I did it:

BASE:

(1) As a substitute for foundation, I used my San-san concealer in Natural (since it's very pale, as compared to Olive which is what I usually use) with an unbranded stippling brush that I bought from Landmark for 149 Php

ZOMBIE EFFECT:

(2) With a light hand, draw fake veins starting from under the eyes using Nichido Color Intense Eye Pencil (Girls' Night Out) in purple and LA Colors lip pencil (Part of set). Make sure that you draw the veins as light and thin as possible so it would look realistic.

(3) Using a blush brush or fan brush, lightly fan Shawill Mono Eyeshadow Green (I forgot the name but it's a beautiful olive green) under the eyes, sides, forehead, nose, chin, and jaw.

(4) Contour eyes, under eyes, cheeks, sides of forehead, nose with black eyeshadow. I used the one from ELF but it won't give as much color as I hoped it would, so decided to add a little eyeliner ().

(5) Line eyes with black eyeliner (Nichido Mineral kohl pencil in Onyx)

(6) Using red lipstick, apply on areas where you would want to have bruises or fake blood. (Aido Lipstick in J- 50Php; Prestige Lipstick- 299Php)

(7) Put some purple and black eyeshadow under the eyes and pat some over the red lipstick. (LA Colors Eyeshadow Palette in SandCastle)

(8) Use red or clear lip gloss over the red lipstick to create the illusion of fresh blood (LA Colors clear Lipgloss Php89)

AND THAT'S IT! But I like said, I still need to buy some black eyeshadow for better contouring and to make my eyes and cheeks look more hollow and dead. hihi

So 3 weeks ago I had this really bad hair moment. It wasn't that my hair looked bad, I was just sick and tired of it. I've had the same hairstyle since 2 years ago, but I still didn't want to change my length. So I literally flipped a coin and decided to cut my own hair. I did some light layers and cut my own bangs. It was so risky since it was the first time I've ever cut my hair and honestly, it looked amazing at first, but now I just want to get back to my old hair. Bangs are just so high maintenance since they get messed up by the wind and by too much movement easily. haha!

Thank God hair grows back. :P

REVIEW: E.L.F. Blush & Bronzer Palette

Yesterday, I was out shopping with my mom and decided to stop by at the department store to buy some foundation (which I'll be doing a review on soon) when I recalled that I also wanted to buy a contouring powder for umm... reasons.

I guess I got a little jealous when I watched Youtube's pixi2woo's contour & highlight video. I highly recommend that you subscribe to her channel since she is just amazing and she makes everything seem so easy. It's perfect for beginners or amateurs (like me). PLUS you'll love her accent. hahaha!

So back to the palette.

I was actually opting to buy some thing from Ever Bilena. I was going to buy their blush in Earth (Php 160.00) but realized it was too dark for me. Also, I was never really a fan of their products since I find them hard to blend.

So I decided to check out E.L.F. and asked the sales lady if they had anything that I could use for contouring. She recommended the bronzers but I decided not to go with it since it's best not to use anything shimmery for contouring. That's when she suggested the E.L.F. Blush & Bronzer Palette. I got it on sale for only 185 pesos, but it's regularly priced at Php 250.

I found the box really cute. It had this notepad thing going on.
And the container itself was plain and simple. It was smaller than most palettes though which was okay since it was really handy and quite inexpensive.

The blushes were both really pretty.
However, they seemed a little intimidating at first since I was used to wearing blushes that were a little peachy or even red (since I turn red and not pink when I blush). Also, the pale pink looked too pale for my taste while the other one was too bright or unnatural. I thought I wouldn't be able to use the blushes much since it wouldn't go well with my skin.

The bronzer was the perfect shade and it was matte. Most makeup artists would recommend you buying a matte one instead of one with shimmer since it was more practical for contouring. Besides, you could always shimmer to the matte ones if you want. :)

The darker pink and the lighter bronzer (which I used as a highlighter) had some shimmer on it, which led me to believe that these would be pretty sheer.

But I have been seriously misled.

As you can see, the blushes and bronzers are incredibly pigmented. You get a lot of the product in just one swipe. The color isn't as harsh on my skin and looked really pretty, even. What came to a shock to me was that the light pink color looked pretty natural and so did the barbie pink one. I loved the highlighter and bronzer as well. They were easy to use and blend. However, the light pink and the highlighter can be a bit chalky when you use too much. The staying power was quite good as well.

So here's a before and after of my face. I didn't use too much of the product though so it isn't quite obvious in the pictures (which is good since it looks natural). However, you'll still notice the pop of color on my face and the difference made with the contouring.
