A warning about obesity in dogs has seen the design of the world's first dog stairlift.According to a report, one in three dogs of the 8.3 million canines in the United Kingdom are now obese.So a device that can transport portly pooches up stairs has been unveiled.Based on a conventional stair lift, the 'Stair of the Dog 2022' concept has been in development for six months and has a number of high tech modifications that make it dog friendly.,

As well as a comfy basket for pets to sit in during the stair elevation stage, it features an electronic retractable platform - activated by a paw recognition button - to take said dog from floor to basket level.The prototype has been created by MORE TH>N pet insurance, who warn that if obesity levels continue to rise at the current rate, over half of all pooches will be severely overweight (52 per cent) by 2022.

The world's tallest man may have reached his peak after treatment at a U.S. hospital.Measuring in at 8-feet-3 inches, Sultan Kosen of Turkey is listed in the 2011 Guinness World Records at the tallest living man.Sultan Kosen received treatment at the University of Virginia Medical Center in May 2010 for treatment for a disorder called acromegaly, which is usually caused by a tumor in the pituitary gland.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Kosen was placed on a new medication that could potentially help control the production of growth hormone and stop his continued growth.According to university officials, doctors in Turkey say Kosen has stopped growing.

Two Slovak children were suspected of burning down a large gothic castle in eastern Slovakia when their experimentation with smoking went wrong, police said on Sunday.Police were investigating two boys on suspicion that they set grass at the foot of the Krasna Horka castle on fire on Saturday when they tried to light up cigarettes, said Jana Mesarova, police spokeswoman for the eastern Slovak region of Kosice. Children under the age of 15 cannot be prosecuted in Slovakia.

"A unit sent to the site found that two local boys aged 11 and 12 were trying to light up a cigarette and because of careless use of safety matches, they set grass at the castle hill on fire," Mesarova said.

The castle subsequently caught fire and emergency services deployed 84 firefighters to the scene.The Slovak National Museum wrote on its Facebook page that damage to the castle was extensive but about 90 percent of historical collections were saved, including contemporary photographs of furnished castle premises from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, oil paintings and various ornaments.

"The castle s roof burned down completely, as well as the new exhibition in the gothic palace and the bell tower. Three bells melted," the museum said.The castle, near the UNESCO-protected Domica Cave, dates back to the early 14th century.

Magine walking down an ordinary street and coming upon an upended house balanced on a front gable. That’s the experience for visitors to Rumah Terbalik, Malaysia’s first upside-down house. From the outside, it looks exactly like its neighbors, traditional Sabah village residences. A wheelbarrow leans against a wall and a sedan is parked in the adjacent carport. All typical except they are upside down.

Inside, a TV, microwave, tables, chairs and sofas dangle above visitors who navigate the home’s ceilings, steering around light fixtures and ceiling fans. Playing cards and comic books strewn along the floor, a cigarette in an ashtray, make it seem as though the family has just left the room. Even the washing machine and sewing machine hang overhead. Literally everything in the 1,500-square-foot, two-bedroom home is topsy turvy. But in this house it is the visitors who feel they are ones turned on end.

In addition to bringing visitors to the region, Rumah Terbalick’s creator, Alexander Yee, says he wants to call attention to the long term impact of unbridled development, which has the potential to turn the world upside down. “The World Stands on its Head” is actually the name of Germany’s upside-down house, while the house in Poland, built during the Soviet era, was said to be a commentary on Communism and state of the world.Maybe an upside-down house will prove to be the perfect antidote to an increasingly topsy-turvy world.Worldwide, there are a number of upside-down houses. A walker was stunned to see this giant T-Rex towering above him in the Norfolk countryside.The tree, which is covered in winter ivy, looks exactly like the terrifying dinosaur, complete with eyes, mouth and spiky back.The Jurassic monster can be seen in a farmer's field near Alby in North Norfolk, but like its ancestors the dinosaur will die out when the tree flowers in a few weeks.

"I was walking with my wife Debbie and as we came round the corner we saw the T-Rex tree," said Spike Malin, 50, from Cromer, Norfolk."It really stood out and looked exactly like the dinosaur."It's amazing, the head is just the right shape and it even has a jaw and small hands, just like the king of the dinosaurs."From a distance it looks like it is striding across the fields."Mr Malin, who works at Blicking Hall in Norfolk, added: "In a few weeks the tree will be covered in leaves and the dinosaur will disappear."

Sightseers to the 3,000 year old Uffington White Horse in Oxfordshire have been surprised to see it has suddenly gained a jockey.The new addition to the prehistoric hill figure is a marketing stunt by bookmakers Paddy Power to celebrate the Cheltenham Festival, which starts next week.

It took a 20-strong team six hours to install the temporary 200ft wide and 110ft tall jockey - nicknamed Paddy - under the cover of darkness.Paddy is made out of more than 200 metres of lightweight canvas, pre-cut into five separate pieces, secured to the ground by 500 tiny tent pegs.

A common heart disease drug may have the unusual side-effect of combating racism, a new study claims.Volunteers given the beta-blocker Propranolol, used to lower heart rates, scored lower on a standard psychological test of "implicit" racist attitudes.They appeared to be less racially prejudiced at a subconscious level than another group treated with a "dummy" placebo pill.

Scientists believe the discovery can be explained by the fact that racism is fundamentally founded on fear.Propranolol acts both on nerve circuits that govern heart rate, and the part of the brain involved in fear and emotional responses. The drug is also used to treat anxiety and panic.Experimental psychologist Dr Sylvia Terbeck, from Oxford University, who led the study, said: "Our results offer new evidence about the processes in the brain that shape implicit racial bias."Implicit racial bias can occur even in people with a sincere belief in equality."Two groups of 18 participants took part in the study which involved categorising positive and negative words, and pictures of black and white individuals, on a computer screen.

A Kent man has told how he was mugged by a fox which forced him into handing over his dinner.Seb Baker, 29, from Orpington, was cornered by the fox on his way home from his local supermarket.The 15-stone civil servant says the fox, which had been sitting on a kerb at the side of the road, followed him into an alleyway.The aggressive animal then leapt at him, circling him like prey and trying to snatch his Tesco shopping bag.

Eventually, Mr Baker claims, he resorted to offering the animal his loaf of garlic bread and the fox scampered off.He said: "I had expected it to run away. I thought a fox would be scared of a 15-stone man."But the fox started circling me and then jumped up, trying to grab my shopping bag."Eventually I opened the bag and gave it a garlic loaf. He grabbed it and ran off."

Wildlife expert John Bryant said foxes were getting bolder but were not generally interested in humans, and confirmed attacks like this were rare.He advised: "If a fox is jumping at your shopping bag you need to shout at it and chase it off, not just give it the food."

A chicken surprised her owners by laying a massive egg four times larger than normal.Popples, a two-year-old Rhode Island Red, laid the supersize egg measuring 5ins high, 8ins round and weighing 6.6 ounces.Schoolgirl Harriet Whitaker, 8, discovered the egg when she made her daily check of the family's chicken run, in Portsmouth.She said: "I've never seen an egg that size before. I thought an ostrich had been into the run overnight."

The youngster has even taken the egg into school to show to her friends, who were equally amazed.Mum Teresa, 36, said: "Poor Popples must have been eggs-hausted and in pain after laying such a massive egg."I fed the chickens some scraps from our roast dinner the day before, so perhaps the cauliflower, broccoli and sprouts gave her a boost.

"I was amazed when Harriet first showed me the egg. She came running into the kitchen so excited. I said 'oh my gosh - that must have been painful'."It's the biggest chicken egg I've ever seen. I'm not sure what we will do with it yet but it will make a very large and tasty omelette."

US woman kept father's body in icebox for years

A woman who kept her father s decomposing body in an ice box for years so she could continue to collect his Social Security checks was charged Thursday with mutilating his corpse and failing to lawfully dispose of his remains.Debra Fisher, 58, is currently being medically evaluated to determine whether she is mentally fit to face charges. She will be arrested upon her release, the sheriff s department said.Her long-time roommate, Heidi Todd, 44, also faces criminal charges."He apparently died while in bed," said George Bonnett, a spokesman for the St. Tammany Parish sheriff s department.

"She left him in the bed for quite some time. Once the body started to decompose, she then transferred him into the ice chest but before doing so she chopped the hands off and put them in a box in her freezer," Bonnet."The thinking there is that their plans were, we believe, to eventually dispose of the body. Why two or three years went by and they never did that, I don t know. What we re hearing is they didn t want the body to be identified through fingerprints."Fisher s father, who has not been identified by name, would have been 83. It s not yet clear whether he died of natural causes or how long his 6 2" frame was concealed in the 160 quart ice chest, which was kept inside the house.

His death came to light after Fisher and Todd refused to let an air conditioner repairman into the house.The repairman contacted the landlord, who called police and said he was concerned because he hadn t seen Fisher s father in a while."That wasn t unusual because he was bedridden," Bonnett said.But two deputies visited the home Tuesday to do a standard welfare check. While they noticed "deplorable" living conditions, their suspicions were not raised because the women said Fisher s father had gone out and would be back soon."They left with the intention of coming back later to check on him, of course never thinking to look in an ice chest for a body," he said in a telephone interview.About an hour later, the two women went to the local police station and explained what they had done.
