A mother and daughter tragically died on June 1 after family members say the 34-year-old mother set herself on fire from inside her Hampton, Virginia, home. According to a report for WAVY TV 10, earlier this month, Destiny Wilson poured gasoline on herself, setting herself on fire, while in a front room of her mother’s home near the 4100 block of Chippendale Court. Wilson’s mother told the local news outlet that she had a mental illness, had been previously institutionalized, and had threatened suicide in the past. Sadly, her 3-year-old daughter, Jamie Lee, was present in the room during the tragic incident, and also died.

While it sounds like a drug side effect, Ozempic butt isn’t actually caused directly by the medication itself. Instead, it’s a common result of losing a large amount of weight quickly, which often includes the loss of both fat and muscle. As more people use powerful weight-loss drugs, researchers are now looking for ways to solve this pesky problem. One experimental treatment in development is a drug called apitegromab, which was recently highlighted in a study published in Nature Medicine published June 8. Early results suggest it may help protect muscle during weight loss, potentially reducing changes in body shape that come from muscle loss.

In honor of Pride Month, we have curated a list of Black LGBTQ+ movies that have changed the culture entirely. From new age films like Moonlight to movies that paved the way like Paris Is Burning, check out the stories that shifted Hollywood in the best way possible.

Black LGBTQ+ stories have always existed. The difference is that for decades, Hollywood either ignored them, watered them down or refused to center them altogether. Yet despite those barriers, Black queer filmmakers, actors, and storytellers continued creating work that challenged stereotypes, expanded representation, and gave audiences characters whose lives reflected the complexity of their own experiences.

Today, conversations around identity, gender, sexuality, and community are more visible than ever, but many of those discussions were shaped by films that took risks long before inclusion became a mainstream talking point. These movies did more than entertain. They opened doors. They sparked dialogue in Black households. They gave visibility to communities that were often pushed to the margins of both Black cinema and LGBTQ+ storytelling.

As highlighted by EBONY and Global Grind, Black LGBTQ+ cinema continues to evolve, offering stories that span romance, family, friendship, faith, self discovery, activism and joy. While many viewers point to Moonlight as a watershed moment, the truth is that a long line of groundbreaking films helped pave the way for that success.

What makes these projects so important is their ability to humanize experiences that are often misunderstood. Whether through documentaries, coming of age dramas, love stories, or groundbreaking independent films, these works allowed Black LGBTQ+ people to see themselves reflected on screen while inviting broader audiences into their worlds.

Some challenged harmful narratives. Others celebrated community. A few became cultural landmarks that continue influencing television, film, fashion, music and social conversations years after their release. Together, they represent a powerful archive of Black queer storytelling that deserves recognition not only during Pride Month but all year long.

Plus, there are less invasive options for Black women who want a more subtle update.

Rapper Cardi B has been super transparent about all the cosmetic work that gave her the body she wanted. Some of her “tweakments” have included rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, and butt injections; plus, after having four children, she’s become a poster child for the “mommy makeover” that has involved body contouring.

For Black women who are uncomfortable going under the knife, there is a range of minimally invasive, innovative aesthetics to consider.

Grand View Research reported that the non-invasive aesthetic treatment market had a $35 billion net worth in 2025, with an estimated increase to $64 billion by 2033. Interest in more cosmetic procedures is growing as more celebrities have been honest about their work (sometimes even filming it for fans), especially as less invasive options with shorter downtime and fewer complications emerge.

Thirty seasons in, the WNBA still has no face on its logo, and A’ja Wilson’s four MVPs, three championships, and a successful business empire make her the most obvious choice.

As the WNBA continues to celebrate its 30th season, the league looks almost unrecognizable from the one that tipped off for the first time last century. A landmark collective bargaining agreement has delivered the highest salaries in league history. Media deals with Amazon, NBC, and ESPN have brought the game to new audiences and on a scale unimaginable even half a decade ago.

Expansion teams are landing in parts of the country that have competed aggressively for the right to bring women’s basketball to their cities. By nearly every available measure, the league is entering a new renaissance.

The one area where the WNBA hasn’t quite kept pace with its own growth is its logo, which still features an anonymous silhouette.

A logo is a company’s clearest visual declaration of what it believes represents its identity, chosen around the figure or symbol that communicates those values without requiring explanation.

A woman without a name or a face increasingly feels like a placeholder from an era where the league itself was still figuring out its identity and finding its footing in a sports ecosystem that was fine to malign women’s basketball, if not ignore it altogether.

LeBron James has inadvertently reignited the never-ending gender wars on social media.

Back in October, the four-time NBA champ was on his wife Savannah’s Everybody’s Crazy podcast when the topic of gender roles came up, and Bron admitted he doesn’t like the idea of a stay-at-home wife.

“I think personally me today, if I was not in a relationship today, I could not have a stay-at-home woman,” James said. “Just not like for me who I am at 40 and what I got going on, just coming home and just seeing somebody just sitting on the couch every day just sitting there.”

James praises his wife, Savannah, for always being on the move, saying that sometimes she’ll be at home with their daughter, Zhuri, while other times she’ll be at work or even on the road visiting colleges with their son, Bryce.

Bron does add that everyone’s life situation is different, and what they’re expecting from a partner changes depending on the stage they’re at.

He continued, “It’s just who you are and where you are, you know, at that point in your life. What kind of moves you. And I think everybody is different. So it’s been stages for me.”

That episode of the podcast also included OG Odd Future member-turned-actor Travis Bennett (Taco), as well as AMP streamers Kai Cenat and Fanum, who spoke about what love means to them.

Later in the same clip, the topic of falling in love was broached, and James remarked on how much he loves Savannah and how he is so locked in for life that he could never picture himself getting remarried. He even jokes that they’ll be together until they’re 105 and then get buried in the same casket.

The two are high school sweethearts, share three kids, and have been married since 2013.

James is clearly happy with his relationship dynamics, but the stay-at-home mom comments rubbed social media users the wrong way, so the eight-month-old clip is making the rounds on X and sparking renewed controversy.

Whether it be rocking a pair of old, stinky socks or your lucky hoodie, fans have the weirdest rituals to help their team win, but it turns out Knicks brass has an entirely different way of locking in.

It takes sacrifice for an NBA team to reach the promised land, and New York Knicks owner James Dolan had the ultimate proposal for his team to make it through the four rounds and ultimately hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy: no sex.

First, it appeared to be just lore, but a recently surfaced video from April 3, before the legendary playoff run, Knicks players sat for a pep talk where he suggested they restrain themselves until they win the finals.

“I had this idea that maybe you should give up sex for the next 10 weeks,” Dolan said. “You don’t have to give up sex for the next 10 weeks. But like Spartans, they denied themselves, right? So that they could have an edge. Get the edge. Go home. Talk to your wives. Tell them. Don’t tell them you’re not going to have sex, but let them know what this is going to be like, what your commitment is going to be like, and how they’re going to have to sacrifice, too.”

While this proves that Dolan did actually ask his team to be celibate, it also shows that it was more about adjusting to the intensity of the playoffs and preparing to make difficult decisions over the next few weeks that put the team first.

At least that’s what Karl-Anthony Towns took from Dolan’s speech when talking to Complex after the Finals win over the Spurs.

“For those 10 weeks, it was just sacrificing, you know, all the things that we personally like to do for the betterment of the team and to just be truly locked in,” Towns told Complex. “His whole message was just being locked in and not letting any outside distractions come between us and this championship run.”

That was especially tough for Towns, who’s engaged to Jordyn Woods, who he admitted wasn’t too excited about the sexless directive, telling Sports Illustrated, “I would definitely say when I came home and told my fiancée what he said, she didn’t like to hear that one.”

Whether all the players managed to keep it in their pants throughout the postseason remains a mystery, but Dolan’s messaging worked as the Knicks went on a 13-1 run to become the 2026 NBA champions.

A Mississippi police officer has shot and killed a 1-year-old Black child, and now the department is claiming the shooting came as a result of a shoplifting incident, in which the suspect fled into a vehicle, and that vehicle drove in the cop’s direction, forcing him to shoot to kill — a story that is all too familiar when it comes to police justifications for killing unarmed Black people.

According to the Mississippi Free Press, the shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Kartier Wiley took place on June 14 in Senatobia, Miss., and involved officers with the Senatobia Police Department and the Tate County Sheriff’s Department.

Former ESSENCE Ventures CEO Caroline Wanga is alleging she was unfairly blamed and publicly defamed following the widely criticized 2025 edition of Essence Festival, according to her complaint filed on June 11 with the New York State Supreme Court.

What’s inside Former ESSENCE Ventures CEO Caroline Wanga’s complaint?

In her filing against ESSENCE Ventures and its parent company, Sundial Media & Technology Group, Wanga explained that she was hired as CEO of ESSENCE Ventures in June 2020. She later took a health-related leave of absence beginning in September 2024 and remained on leave until she officially stepped down from her role in March 2025. The complaint states that she and the company had agreed to jointly announce her departure after the 2025 Essence Festival of Culture, which took place on July 4, 2025. Wanga had already separated from the company before the announcement, but claims she suffered from defamation due to the “unsuccessful” nature of the event, before her official resignation could be announced.

Last year, ESSENCE Festival faced criticism over production challenges, its partnership with Target, and a shift toward more Pan-African programming, resulting in what some festival goers complained was an “erosion of the festival’s Black American focus,” according to Ebony.

‘RHOA’ Star Drew Sidora’s Messy Divorce Is Final — And The Court Ordered Her To Pay Ralph Pittman How Much?

After more than three years of custody disputes, basement bashing, and countless headlines, Drew Sidora and Ralph Pittman are putting their marriage and cellar dweller drama behind them. The news comes amid fans debating about the cushily coined housewife’s salary that was revealed in divorce docs.

According to court documents obtained by People, Sidora has been ordered to pay Pittman $2,218 per month in child support for their two children. The documents state that Sidora earns approximately $38,260 monthly, while Pittman’s monthly income is listed at $27,449. Pittman will maintain health insurance coverage for the children, while any uncovered medical expenses will be split equally between the former spouses.

The settlement also awards Pittman exclusive ownership of the former couple’s Atlanta home, meaning he can move from the home’s basement to upstairs. However, he must pay Sidora $145,054.12 for her share of the property’s equity within 45 days of the order’s filing.

TMZ also reported on the filings and shed light on Sidora’s earnings from The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Her salary rose from roughly $352,000 in Season 15 to $380,000 in Season 16 before reaching approximately $465,000 for Season 17. According to the documents, her most recent contract amounted to about $26,000 per episode.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the former NBA superstar is making explosive allegations against his soon-to-be ex-wife, including claims he was manipulated into marriage through what he describes as a pattern of lies and deception.

Howard reportedly filed new legal documents requesting a protective order against Luciani, whose legal name is Amber Rose Howard. In the filing, he alleges that she has a “history of lying and manipulating” him throughout their relationship. One of the most shocking claims centers around fertility. Living in Denver opened my eyes to the true significance of Juneteenth. While it might sound surprising, the Mile High City hosts an extensive Juneteenth celebration in Five Points, a neighborhood with deep Black roots. It was there, amid the vibrant festivities, that I truly began to grasp the holiday’s importance.

Juneteenth’s Importance

Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, provides a powerful opportunity to examine the vital need for rest and restoration. This observance aligns seamlessly with the burgeoning Black women’s wellness movement. It champions self-care, mental health, and spiritual healing as essential tools for resilience and liberation.

A growing number of Black women are reclaiming their time and energy through the intentional pursuit of rest. Because the truth is, the 92% is tired.

Doulas are guiding mothers with compassionate care. Therapists are providing safe spaces for processing trauma and building emotional strength. Spiritual practitioners are leading individuals towards inner peace and holistic well-being. These practitioners are not simply offering services. They are advocating for a fundamental shift in how Black women approach their lives. They are actively challenging societal expectations of constant productivity and self-sacrifice. Instead, we want to embrace softness, joy, and restorative practices.

Above all, the notion of rest as a reparative practice is particularly significant considering the historical and ongoing challenges faced by Black women. Centuries of systemic oppression, coupled with the everyday microaggressions and societal pressures, have taken a toll. Rest, therefore, is not simply leisure. It becomes an act of resistance and a powerful step towards healing. By prioritizing our well-being, Black women are honoring their own needs. We are laying the foundation for a more sustainable and fulfilling future. Juneteenth serves as a poignant reminder of this ongoing journey towards liberation. Markedly, both personal and collective, softness and joy are seen as sacred components of a life well-lived.
