Elephant Butt Sandwich and More

Today we've got ourselves a real doozie of a lunch to share. We'd also like to take this opportunity to introduce you to what our bread machine bread looks like - luckily just the same as an elephant butt, if a tail is provided. We got some new treasures for Christmas and we've been testing them out. And, we've been really horrible about sharing our pictures. Today we've got a happy treat for you!

That happy little nori face was made with my new nori punch. It is the best for adorning your sandwiches, rice balls, or anything else you can think of to stick nori to. Wouldn't that make you smile when you opened up your lunch box?

My other new gadget is our puzzle piece sandwich cutter. Pretty into that too. Look at how fun that peanut butter and jelly looks. The rest: clementine, chips and guacamole, rice ball, goldfish crackers, blueberries, homemade applesauce, and a diced up pink lady apple. The first lunch differs only slightly soy yogurt instead of applesauce, the elephant butt sandwich of course and a hard-boiled egg critter (another new lunch-making delight). More soon!

Ham & Pickle Rolls and more

Aw yeah nothin' like some rolled ham in your lunch - with a little dill pickle and Tofutti cream cheese in the middle, yum!

And of course one kid likes pickles and the other doesn't care for them so much, so we have a variation on the school lunch for today.

Kiwi, buttery pretzel squares, blueberries, a tiny orange (clementine), pear slices, ham sandwich on Wheat Montana Bread, vitamins and a sugar cookie made by our friend Kimberly complete the package today.

Oops looks like there was a homemade applesauce substitute in the little guy's lunch. Everything else is pretty much the same though. "Same but diff"

Sunshine Lunch – Ham/Turkey Sandwich with Tomatoes and More

It is probably my favorite when the sunshine is the lighting for the lunch photos in the morning. That is the one bummer about summer vacation. I don't get to take great photos at 7AM of the lunches I prepare with all natural light streaming in our windows. So as spring approaches the light in the morn makes me happy.

Lunches today consist of a pink lady apple diced, blueberries, kiwi, strawberries, peach soy yogurt and a sandwich with Applegate Turkey and Ham and Wheat Montana bread and a fresh tomato. This whole lunch makes me so excited for the approaching warm seasons. Ahhh.

Valentine Cold School Lunches Take 3!

Now for the grand finale! I like to start off with a lunch train from time to time....a Valentine Lunch Train.

My kiddos woke up this morning to some special little Valentines from us. Legos are at the tippy top of the list for both of them right now so while they ate their bacon, eggs and bagels for breakfast they also spent some time constructing some Lego giftys.

Peanut Butter and Homemade Plum Jelly on wheat bread for one Valentine, and Mushroom and Parm Ravioli for the other Valentine. That sauce on the ravioli is homegrown and made with all kinds of love in the fall, as is the plum jelly. The sweet and sour meatballs got used up today. One Valentine likes cherry tomatoes (so he got one) and the other Valentine likes those awful Mango covered Almonds (so he got two), the chocolate drops in the center were my attempt at a "heart shape" one of the kids realized that (thankfully). Red Valentine Goldfish crackers beneath some pink strawberry soy yogurt fill another section right on up. The tiny clementine and sliced organic Gala apple are the final touches to the lunch of love for today.

Valentine Cold School Lunches Take 2!

This is a guest parent - and she just happens to be my freakin' adorable sister. Don't we look alike?

Here is her lunch today followed by her pile of cute little kiddos this morning.

I'm not sure I can give you the details of this lunch. Looks like - cottage cheese, goldfish crackers, a heart sandwich (but of course), blueberries, grapes and some orange slices. Yummy LOVE!

Special Valentine Treat - 3 lunches today - over the course of the day. Here is the first Lovely Lunch.

Who doesn't love meatballs? Seriously? A peanut butter and jelly (homemade plum jelly) on wheat bread - with a heart of course. The tiny clementine pre-peeled, onion and poppy seed snack sticks, mandarin oranges, chocolate drops, and a diced up pink lady apple. Plus - a whole lotta love, duh.

Smiling Sandwich on Homemade Bread, Strawberries and More

Yummy! Simon and Gus enjoyed a smiley little lunch today. The smiles are punched out of nori and the sandwich is homemade white bread filled with peanut butter and homemade plum jelly (which is delightful). The strawberries are organic and sliced up bite-size for kiddos, the fig cookies are Newman's, the chocolate drops are from the bulk section at the Good Food Store - I love the rainbow flower they make. The hard-boiled hen egg is probably from our backyard hens (but could be organic from the store), please take note of the shape of the eggs. The new hard-boiled egg smooshers are at the tippy top of my favorite list right now. Finally, we have some diced up organic pink lady apples. Looks Delightful for my little loveys.

Ooh I almost forgot my big kid is super into the Mango covered almonds (also in bulk) so that is what you see in the center. Ew.

Dinos, Noodles and Egg

There is a bit more to it than those three things...but...who doesn't like Dinos, Noodles and Egg? Got your attention didn't I?

I don't want to scare you but there is a monster after you lunch. Noodles with pork, organic apple, hard-boiled hen egg, fig newman, soy blueberry yogurt, and peanut butter and jelly dino sandwich - I'd be after your lunch too.

Quorn Roast, Pears and More

I should have titled it "Quorn Roast, Chocolate Drops and Yum"...cause that looks seriously good! We love a little bit of meat-free roast in our lives it is seriously delicious. If you haven't tried it - I suggest you do. The pears & apples are pretty darn near the only fresh fruits we can get a grip on this time of year so we eat a LOT of them. The yogurt is blueberry soy yogurt. The potatoes are mashed and the cauliflower is mixed with noodles and a leftover from dinner. Chocolate drops for dessert. Mmmmm.

Where did the time go?

We've been busy...but we haven't stopped making lunches. Everybody needs to eat right? So we're still going strong just not so good about posting these days (weeks/months). You see we've got a remodel/expansion happening at our toy store. And the holidays brought the busy bluster they bring to each of you, and I'm just sitting down with a cup of tea and decided it was high time I posted a few lunches...so here we go.

This is from our Thanksgiving Leftovers...and I have some older than that I haven't had a chance to share, but I liked the looks of this one just now as I was paging through the "past." I made a mean (and by mean I mean a delicious) Stromboli with stuffing, turkey, cranberries and mashed potatoes. The dough I made from scratch so it wasn't a quick process, but it actually doesn't take more than a couple of hours to piece this whole meal together (as long as you have your leftovers). It was really good, really filling and we had leftovers of that too. So this lunch is made from double leftovers - lucky boy. The dollops of mashed potatoes are always a hit whether they are warm or cold. The rest: Teresa's pineapple and ritz cracker dessert (if anyone wants the recipe I have that one too), a green apple, some organic mandarin oranges, some sunflower seeds, a dinner roll and some vitamins. Just about the same size as Thanksgiving dinner - hope you are hungry today Simon.
