1 of 9 Newly-identified Craters on Mercury Named L’Engle
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) approved proposed names for nine new craters on the planet Mercury. ” “L’Engle” is one of them! Who decides these things? She would be thrilled. Read more about it here.

NYT By the Book
In case you missed it, check out the “By the Book” article in The New York Times. Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg says she wanted to Meg Murry because “she worked with others to fight against an unjust system .”

Austin Series review
Do you watch TV shows in marathon sessions? What about books? Would you read a series in one sitting? In an interesting review of the Austin Books, Sara Zarr, in the LA Review of Books reflects on Vicky and revisiting childhood favorites.

Dallas Children’s Theater
The Dallas Children’s Theater production of John Glore’s adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time played in April. Nancy Churnin of the Dallas Morning News says: In John Glore-s faithful adaptation, author Madeleine L-Engle provides the key to why her Newbery Medal-winning story speaks to kids as powerfully as ever. In a world where children still agonize and are bullied over being different, she gives us three who don-t fit in and who must learn that their faults, as they see them, may in fact be their strengths.

“A Wrinkle in Time” saved me because it so captured the grief and sense of isolation I felt as a child. I was 8 years old when it came out, in third grade, and I believed in it — in the plot, the people and the emotional truth of their experience. This place was never a good match for me, but the book greatly diminished my sense of isolation as great books have done ever since. I must have read it a dozen times.
