The new feature is paired by interviews from Stuart Price – the album’s executive co-producer – and Danceteria and L.E.S. Girl co-writer and co-producer Andrew Watt available on Billboard.com.

Already available online are the clips filmed by Ricardo Gomes with Madonna in the studio with Stuart Price working on Love Without Words and Love Sensation and with Cirkut and Andrew Watt on Danceteria. In a third one filmed by Nuno Xico Madonna and Stromae collaborate on My Sins Are My Savior.

Four more behind-the-scenes episodes will be released on Thursday, October 15.

Newly listed – and currently already sold out – at the online madonna shop is the 3-track double-sided cassette featuring the Danceteria Afterhours mix with Charli xcx, as well as the Harry Romero Remix and single version. It comes in a jewel case with a black and white photo artwork, while the image shown for the actual cassette is the same one of the Danceteria/Everybody cassette used in the Confessions II short film.

Also available is the new 2-track vinyl single that features the Afterhours mix as well as the single version, also in a b&w art sleeve with the same cover image of Madonna and Charli taken when they were co-hosting The Afterparty at Max Linder Panorama in Paris.

Both items will ship in late November.

To mark the 30th anniversary of Alan Parker’s award-winning film adaptation of EVITA, the movie soundtrack makes its vinyl debut in a deluxe 3LP edition, available from Rhino Records as a translucent red vinyl and as a special gold nugget edition available via D2C channels only.

Housed in a trifold jacket featuring a 20-page 11″ x 11″ booklet filled with stills from the film, Evita: The Complete Motion Picture Soundtrack will also be available at retail in a double-CD format packed with an expanded 24-page booklet.

The album arrives in stores on November 13, 2026, with pre-orders available now.

Originally released in 1996 to accompany the film based on the timeless musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, the album chronicles the compelling story of Eva Perón starring Madonna, Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Pryce.

Sunday night’s 2026 MTV Video Music Awards delivered 8.43 million viewers on CBS and simulcast on MTV, becoming the most-watched VMAs since 2015 and up +51% from the 2025 awards show.

Hosted by Snoop Dogg and broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater, the 2026 VMAs peaked with over 15 million viewers across CBS and MTV in the opening act, which featured Madonna’s show-opening medley with Sabrina Carpenter and Charli xcx, the Queen of Pop’s first VMAs stage performance in 23 years.

The awards show posted its largest viewership in key adults 25-54, adults 18-49 and adults 18-34 demos in years, with all audience demos up more than +30% from last year.

Other ratings highlights include:

• Best same-day audience since 2015 for the VMAs that aired on MTV (12.73m).
• The 2026 VMAs delivered 8.43 million viewers on CBS and MTV, with an encore on MTV, up +51% from the Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, event that also ran on CBS and MTV, with an encore on MTV (from 5.60m).
• CBS averaged 7.61 million viewers, up +52% from last year (5.00m).
• MTV’s simulcast averaged 686,000 viewers, up +40% from last year (491K).
• MTV’s encore averaged 142,000 viewers, up +31% from last year (108K).
• The show posted its largest A25-54, A18-49 and A18-34 audiences in years.
• Most-watched VMAs in the A25-54 demo since 2019 (3.55m), amassing 3.11 million demo viewers, up +34%from last year (2.32m).
• Most-watched VMAs in A18-49 since 2018 (3.02m), averaging 2.66 million demo viewers, up +32% from last year (2.02m).
• Most-watched VMAs in A18-34 since 2020 (1.14m), averaging 1.09 million viewers in the demo, up +46% from last year (751K).

Madonna returned to the MTV Video Music Awards stage last night for her first live performance in 23 years. And let us get this straight: it wasn’t 23 years since she was on the show, as Chris Willman wrote in his interview with former MTV Networks head and current show producer Van Toffler on Variety.

Besides opening the show in 1989 (with Express Yourself), 1993 (Bye Bye Baby), 1998 (Shanti/Ashtangi and Ray of Light) and 2003 (Like a Virgin/Hollywood  with Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Missy Elliott), Madonna also performed on the MTV stage in its inaugural 1984 edition (the Like a Virgin at the very first VMAs did not actually open the broadcast), in 1987 (Causing a Commotion, a recording from her Who’s That Girl World Tour stop in Turin, Italy) and 1990 (Vogue).
She was also on the show in 1986 (to receive the Video Vanguard Award), 1994 (the Letterman Monologue, to present Video of the Year alongside David Letterman himself), 1995 (the Courtney Love “incident”, in the year Madonna won Best Female Video with Take a Bow and presented the Best Rap Video award), and 1999 (to present the living legend Paul McCartney with a special honour).

In the last 20 years Madonna also appeared on the show in 2009 (for a tribute to Michael Jackson), 2018 (the Aretha Franklin eulogy) and on MTV’s 40th Anniversary in 2021, making a surprise appearance to kick off the broadcast (“They said we wouldn’t last. But we’re still here, motherfuckers”).

As you can see, you don’t need to be one of those with long memories to remember about five years ago – it just takes a pinch of intellectual honesty to agree that Madonna is synonymous with the VMAs – the “M” in MTV.

Back to last night’s show, Madonna had quite a spotlight on herself ahead of this year’s edition as the artist with the most nominations (13). And she left the show to party with her friends at Chateau Marmont with 7 moon persons.

Five awards where voted by the fans:

• Artist of the Year
• Best Collaboration (Bring Your Love, with Sabrina Carpenter)
• Best Dance (Confessions II – The Film)
• Best Long Form Video (Confessions II – The Film – Madonna became the only artist to win this award twice)
• and Best Album (Confessions II)

Two more were professional categories, both related to Confessions II – The Film:

• Best Cinematography (Daniel Landin)
• and Best Choreography (Damien Jalet, Megan Lawson, Young Boy Dancing Group, Nicolas Huchard)

What made her presence at the show unique? There are pop stars who perform at the MTV Video Music Awards, and then there is Madonna, who helped shape the music video format.
Her return to the VMAs stage was not an attempt to recreate the past by performing songs from an amazing music catalogue. Instead, Madonna used the language that she helped create and translated it into 2026, introducing her new chapter to a wider audience.

Her opening line — “It’s mother” — immediately established the tone.
It was playful, self-aware, and unmistakably Madonna: a tiny statement that acknowledged both her status and the enormous cultural history surrounding her, referencing at the same time her latest – and ongoing – project.

The first part of the performance, together with Sabrina Carpenter, shows how Madonna understands the importance of surrounding herself with younger artists, but not in an attempt to borrow relevance from them. Instead, she welcomes them into her own world. Bring Your Love – the number marked the return of Sabrina’s vocals on the instrumentaion of the Afterhours remix – showed two generations meeting on equal creative ground. Madonna brought her history, attitude, and theatricality, while Sabrina brought her own contemporary pop personality and sparkle. It worked perfectly. Both delivered a glamorous performance.

After reprising the idea of the moving table from the One Step Away sequence in Confessions II: The Film, which looked like something she would probably use on an upcoming tour, a gospel choir ends the song while the set changes into the Danceteria toilet scene, recreated in pure stage show glory by the talents at Stufish. From one of the stalls, Charli xcx joins Madonna to perform their new version of the song.

Rather than simply standing onstage and singing, Madonna brought elements of Confessions II: The Film and its characters into the VMA environment. The appearance of figures connected to the project – including Julia Garner and Debi Mazar – more artists connected to Madonna’s past and present story like Andrew Watt, Fab Five Freddy and Tony Ward, and surprise guests like Sombr, Tristan Schukraft and Seth Rogen – also gave the performance a cinematic quality.

For longtime fans, Debi Mazar’s presence was one of the most enjoyable details, as she represents a connection to Madonna’s New York history and to an earlier chapter of her artistic life. The same happened in a virtual way with Maripol, whose image from one of her iconic Polaroids appeared on the screens of the Peacock Theater during the song. Bringing her longtime friends from the early years into the Confessions II world gave the show an additional layer that casual viewers might easily miss.

In decades of live performances, Madonna has fallen onstage, reinvented songs, introduced new dance styles to enormous television audiences, challenged expectations, and turned award-show appearances into cultural events. This was another addition to that legacy.

But most importantly, she returned to the VMAs not as a museum piece, but as an active participant in contemporary pop culture, with a number-one album whose majority of sales are physical – people actually wanted to possess the record.

She doesn’t need to prove that she has been important. Everybody knows that she is an icon. Her point was to demonstrate that she can still evolve, and she succeeded in doing that.

Danceteria is the latest single from Madonna’s widely acclaimed No.1 album, Confessions II. The first hints of a Madonna & Charli collaboration appeared when Confessions II was about to be released, when an then unknown track with “Charli… Madonna…” vocals and matching visuals on the screens was played at the after party for the Madonna in Conversation & Film Screening of Confessions II – The Film event at Bus Palladium in Paris.

Madonna then started teasing two weeks ago – with a short video set to the notes of L.E.S. Girl and a Thinking about Charli…. text, to which Charli xcx promptly replied with a Wait… I got something I wanna talk about… comment.

Last night’s clip – which the two are sharing on Instagram – is using You wanna talk about Madonna and Charli? as the headline and is set to a previously unreleased track that the social network is labelling as Danceteria Afterhours.

What we know so far (and what we can expect)

• The date: the Reel hints to next Thursday, September 24. It’s safe to assume that a new Danceteria Afterhours remix will drop on the day, most likely when it’s midnight (and therefore, technically, Friday) in Central Europe.
• The remix: with Afterhours being the signature label used for his previous Confessions II remixes, we expect the new track to be produced and remixed by Stuart Price.
• The video: both Madonna and Charli in the Reel appear to be on a set, with matching outfits themed to colour red: does this mean we’ll finally have the long awaited video for Danceteria?
• The Easter eggs in the outfits: Madonna is wearing a red Supreme hoodie customised with a print of the Steven Meisel photograph used for the cover of her Like a Virgin single. Charlie is wearing her black garter.
• The VMAs: the Awards ceremony is on Sunday, September 27, you know that Madonna is performing and opening the show and you also know that a CBS press release we reported about yesterday mentions that she will be joined by special guests (plural).

CBS and MTV today announced nominations for four VMAs social categories and Madonna is running for Best Long Form Video with Confessions II – The Film and Best Album with Confessions II.

Madonna has therefore a chance to become the first artist to win for best long-form video twice at the Awards. She was a winner back in 1991, the first time it was presented, with The Immaculate Collection.

The other two social categories are Best Group and Song of Summer.
All voting will be hosted on the MTV Instagram Story until Sunday, Sept. 27 at 11:00 AM, ET.
