On your standby screen, which was kind of empty until now, the following things will be shown below the clock:

- current date
- uptime of the device
- amount of used RAM
- system load (1, 5, 15 minutes)
- battery state
- amount of used space on user data partition

of course everything comes with a corresponding icon. The battery icon will change depending on charging state (not connected, usb connection, wall charger connection) and loading percentage.

You can download it from here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5225087/ls-magic_1.1_armel.deb

To have it running:
Install deb
Reboot

So, can we do a little blind test, i'll be publishing results by Sunday ! Please don't look at details on the original pictures on flickr, let's play the game ! Ready? The principle is simple, drop on the comment section with group of pictures you find "better" There are two groups/sections taken with the two devices : A and B (each device is assigned to a section of pictures)

So let's start : Section A (taken by a device) followed by Section B (taken with the other device)

Update :

Well well well, results are as following: pictures on section A are taken with the Nokia N9 and the section B were taken with the Lumia 800, what do you think? Personally I see that the Lumia did well and better overall in those conditions, I really want to say that the N9 is more natural but it's not, there's a blue hue that makes pictures looks unnatural (it reminds me of the N95 on its first days...)

Also, you should not that the N9 has a better focus overall anyway :)

But don't be fooled, there'll be another test where the N9 will take the revenge :);) keep your eyes open !
And now you've a headache to remember the security code you've set up ! You can retrieve the forgotten security code using Nemesis Software Suite.

How?

- Download and install NSS

- Connect the N9 in "Sync and connect" mode (you may need to wait for the driver to install)

- Run Nemesis Service Suite (NSS)

- Click on "Scan for new devices" (top right hand button)

- Click on "Phone info" button

- Click on "Scan" button.

- Switch to the "Permanent Memory" tab.

- Click on "Read" button and let the program read memory contents. When it finishes, in the last line in the status window it will inform you about the location of the log file containing memory contents.

- Go to that location and open the file, e.g. with Windows Notepad.

- Find [308]

- Scroll down a little bit until you see a line starting with 5= followed by a numerical string, e.g. 5=31323334350000000000

- When you remove the "3" digits on ODD locations in that string, you'll get the security code. E.g :

31323334350000000000 = 12345 i.e. your forgotten security code (of course this is just the example showing the unchanged factory code).

In that message is written missed call number, but not the contact name.

Who Called Me helps you to find out contact name by searching that number in your phone address book. The application gives you an option of callback or you can simply answer with sms.

Another concrete usage is when friend asks you “Do you know whose number is this? Do you have it in your address book?“

This post is simply about some features that if correctly implemented, it'll make the N9 more reliable and productive utility ! And Frankly, coming from an N8 and an N900, i'm badly missing some essential features that need to be reconsidered by Nokia folks and management team and some nasty bugs that make other alternatives more reliable for daily tasks, i mean why should have an N9 with those bugs if my N8 and N900 (and iPhone 4) just work as expected?!

I'll list the most critical ones that annoy me, you can check out bugzilla and fill your own bugs or feature requests ;) Some feature request were stated as "wontfix", you'll find reasons after bug description !

By priority !

* Call Bug : Blank Seconds (Bug 118)

* Make phone and sms applications on High priority processes (Bug : 533)

* No graphical equalizer or Bass boost setting on music player (Bug : 504)

* Nokia Suite support for N9 : (Bug 117)

Agreed. Nokia Link does not provide some features that Nokia Suite provided.
Unfortunately, Nokia Suite support is not planned for N9. However, your
feedback has been put forward to the management.

I would recommend you to directly use WLAN on your phone to download maps.
As for the sending/viewing text messages, phone is the way to go :)

* No support for zip/rar files (Bug 308)

* Emails bugs :

- Remove notification of new email when marked read on the server ( bug : 152 )
- Messageserver with high CPU utilization and mail is not sync'd ( bug : 198 )
- Email Client doesn't recognize phone numbers ( bug : 502 )
- Email file manager don't find a file i want to attach ( bug : 503 )
- Back to homescreen when Delete email from the lockscreen pop up (Bug 403)
- search on server support missing (Bug : 506)

* Flash support and web browser enhancements...

* Automatic Contact birthdays Sync on calendar (Bug 158)

Thanks for the report. It has been already fixed internally and will be available in future updates.

* Better use of the notification light (Bug 389) :

Thanks for your feedback.

Unfortunately this is the behavior by design that LED notifications would be
redundant and just consume power. Of course it could be useful to have led
notifications if Low Power Mode(LPM) is disabled, but there are no plans to
change this intentional behavior. Most people will be happy with LPM. Thanks.

* Skype & video call (Bug 309) :

Thanks for your feedback. But unfortunately, there are no plans to support

* Smart dialing (Bug 505) :

Search application is actually pretty fast and list you all the possible
options. Also the contacts icon is just beside the dialler and does not any
additional traversal. Unfortunately there are no plans to change this behavior
by design. However thanks for your valuable input.

* No sharing option available in the Music Player (bug : 92) :

Thanks for your feedback. This behavior is intentional as we do not intend to
encourage the distribution of music files from our apps.

* Play Video, Music and Pictures to DLNA clients/TVs (Bug 405)

* Get rid of "SMS" option to landlines numbers (Bug 404)

* Tapping on a message in search results doesn't open the message itself ( bug : 124 )

* Facebook/Twitter notifications (Bug 310)

Ps : Some of bugs listed above are already fixed or under consideration, let's hope the most critical ones will be a part of the next PR1.2 as really the experience was a lot iPhone-like dumbed (even more) and if i want a dumbed "smart"phone, thanks i have already an iPhone and with a lot of application and tweaks that keep me forgetting its limitations...

And you? Are you facing some nasty bugs that annoy your user experience? Or Having some feature requests? Vote for the existing ones or create your owns, share your experience :)

but its particularity is that there is an option to create two one-click icons for reboot and shutdown which will appear on the homescreen.

FAQ :

How do I delete the 1-Click icons (shutdown, reboot)?

You will have to manually delete crochik-shutdown.desktop and crochik-reboot.desktop from /home/user/.local/share/applications. You can do this using the x-terminal or a file manager (please note the /home/user/.local is a hidden folder).

I have installed version 0.0.1

In order to see the new icons you first need to remove manually the 1-click shortcuts (see above)

Download it !

I have installed version 0.0.1 In order to see the new icons you first need to remove manually the 1-click shortcuts (see above) Download it !</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>Freewares, Applications, Nokia, Meego-Harmattan Applications, System Customizing, System tools, Misc, N9</itunes:keywords>

[MeeGo Harmattan] Proximus : Advanced events manager !

Proximus is supposed to perform actions (currently only switching your phone profile between silent/beep/ring) when a predefined rule is true.

Do you remember The basic tool that import sms conversation from the N900 to the N9? Ok, now, there is an enhanced script to import all Conversations to N9.

All you have to do is to :

1- Download the *.deb file and install it (by clicking on it)
2- Copy the database (located at /home/user/.rtcom-eventlogger/el-v1.db) from the N900 to the N9
3- Open the terminal and run the following command:

n900-comhist-import /path/to/el-v1.db

And wait for the magic to happen !

If you want only import SMS messages, use this version instead ;)

Read this before !

When viewing photos in Gallery, you can:

- Open a map view directly from a Gallery photo (perform a long press or select menu icon -> Select the plugin from menu)
- Browse the map in the map view
- View your other photos when staying in the map view
- Edit the location and orientation of your photos, if needed
- Place and orient on the map those photos not having enough metadata
- Go back from the map view directly to Gallery

Uses for the plugin:

- Where was this photo taken at, again?
- While viewing and sharing travel photos, quickly check a photo's location from a map.
- See where a photo shared by a friend has been taken at. If metadata exists in EXIF.
- Edit the location & orientation metadata in EXIF of your photos, easily.

It lets you keep the most essential parts handy to use based on your context. Whether you are at home, office, with friends you can group your applications, your needs and desires into Zones and interact with your device based on the Zone you are in. All it takes is a swipe to move from one Zone to another.

You can configure new Zones directly in your device or download new Zones for specific purpose.

It works.

You can then upgrade to the current Ovi Suite and it will continue to work – but only if you have created the sync under the 3.0.0.290 version.

Steps:

- When you are installing 3.0.0.290, turn off internet connections otherwise Ovi Suite will automatically upgrade before installing

- Once installed, turn off auto-update software (for now) and plug your handset in. It will be recognised, install drivers, and say it is ready

- Confirm your sync settings, and press sync.

- You can then go back online and agree to update your Ovi Suite to the current release.

Supported services: Jabber, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Skype.

You can change display name, username, password, connection host, connection port and encryption.
If parameter field is empty, then this parameter is not specified, and uses the default value.
All changes take effect immediately after pressing the save button.

Accmanok also provides the ability to download and install (to install you need to click on the downloaded file in the transmissions window) packages to support additional IM services: ICQ, MSN, AOL, Jabber, Vkontakte, Odnoklassniki, QIP. To remove the installed packages use the built-in application manager. You can launch it fast by clicking on the application manager icon on the packages page.

After installing services packages needed to reboot phone. This operation will be queried automatically when you return from the packages window. The best solution is a single reboot after installing all necessary packages.

For adding and deleting user accounts use the built-in Accounts application. You can launch it fast by clicking on the blue icon with a key on the main window.

My guide is based on ubuntu live cd (the best and safest method yet) as i have Win 7 64bits and i just can't run properly the tools needed to flash the N9 (if you want steps to do it on windows OS, be sure to look into maemotalk forums)...so :

In few steps :

1- Get (not really necessary) the latest ubuntu build (i did it with ubuntu 9 and it worked just fine), Once you've finished downloading your file, you'll need to create a CD or USB drive (the advantage of running a live cd is that you won't need to install anything on your PC) and then run it (see step 3 from this page).

2- Get the maemo flasher released for Harmattan (in my case i did choose the flasher_3.12.1_i386.deb version of it as i'll use ubuntu live cd) and install it !

3- Get the firmware image for your device, I used NaviFirm from http://www.symbian-toys.com/navifirm.aspx to get the appropriate firmware for my N9 (you can search your Firmware with the help of the product code of your N9 which you can find on the back of the micro SIM holder) you're not forced to download all files but ones checked by default, the most important file is the Mcu LEGACY one (something like : DFL61_HARMATTAN_2X.2011.44-2_PR_LEGACY_XXX.bin)

Ps : It'll be convenient to rename it to something easy like your name for example : saad.bin

You want to do a warm-flash ( I have not tried a cold-flash, so do that at your own risk ) of your device.

There are detailed instructions at the maemo wiki, http://wiki.maemo.org/Flasher but you won't probably need them as only what's left to you to do is to place files you've just downloaded to Desktop.

5- Place downloaded files to desktop.

6- Run Xterm, then type :

cd Desktop

Then sudo flasher -F FIRMWAREIMAGE.bin -f -R

Where FIRMWAREIMAGE.bin is the name you gave to your firmware image... in my case the command will be :

sudo flasher -F saad.bin -f -R

Plug your N9 (it must be switched off already) and wait the magic till your device reboot ;)

It worked fine, but still, do at your own risk !

Additional type : Do a hard reset after that as you could have some old nasty files staying on the system ;)

If you have questions drop them in comments section :)
