The see through Trick

This is what the trick will look and feel like to your soon blown away group of happy spectators. You create a normal everyday deck of cards and calmly reveal that you have ultra powerful magical eyes. You maintain the deck of cards out, so they can see the bottom card and you can't. You show the strength of your magic vision by staring via the deck and looking at the magic card at the bottom.

Then you shut your magical eyes and move the magic card that is on high to the bottom. Soon after that open your ultra powerful eyes. Intently stare via the deck and see the card at the bottom.

Magic Trick Method
Get a normal pack of cards and flip the high card in excess of so that it is going through up. Next flip the deck close to so that the audience sees the magical card. Audience will assume that it is the card at the bottom. So although you are holding the deck going through out; they are wanting at what they consider is the bottom card; and you are wanting what they consider is the exp down high card. well infact you are merely wanting at the subsequent card which is exp up.

This might need some practice; its recommended to start this trick out by cutting teh deck a handful of times; taking a peek at the bottom card and then placing on high telling some engaging tale. Some recommend to keep the deck behind their backs although they do this. The most mecessary aspect is to hold speaking and hold the audience enagaged.

Great way to pull thiss off is to pretend that you aren't a 100% specific of the card. Pretend that your vision is fairly upto snuff & miss a few magical cards. For instance as an alternative of calling the Queen of Spades call out the Queen of Diamonds. Alternatively calling out the Ace of Heart pull out the Ace of Clubs. And act as if you are truly trying to see the cards. If you can act well crowd will be much involved with you for the appropriate solution.

Switch the Card Trick

Magic Material Needed

Before starting the card trick, find the two black 6's and the two black 9's. (The 6 of Spades, the 6 of Clubs, the 9 of Spades, and the 9 of Clubs.) Then, take the 6 of Spades and the 9 of Clubs and place one of them on the top of the deck and the other on the bottom. Keep the 6 of clubs and the 9 of spades separate.

Magic Method

Show the deck of cards to your audience. (The person you are showing the card trick to.) Hold the 6 of clubs and the 9 of spades in front of the person. Ask them to tell you what cards they are. They will say the 6 of clubs and the 9 of spades, of course. Ask them if they are sure. They will say that they are sure. Then hold up either of the cards and ask them what card it is. After they respond, place that card in the middle of the deck. Now do the same with the other card.

Once both cards are inside the deck, place it down on the table and tell the person to tap the deck three times. After that ask them if they have any magic moon dust. If they say, no say you will loan them some and reach into your pocket and pretend to sprinkle dust on the cards. If they say yes, tell them there's no such thing as magic moon dust. Now rub your hands together and blow on them so your fingers are slightly moist. (This is important.)

Pick up the deck by putting your thumb on top and your other fingers on bottom. Hold the deck very lightly. Swing the deck back and forth, and on the third swing throw the deck to your other hand, but make sure you hold onto the top and bottom card. Your moistened fingers will help.
After all that, your victim will still remember the cards, but only vaguely. When you show them the 6 of spades and 9 of clubs that you "pre-placed" they will be astounded, unless they have an awesome memory.

Vanish Magic Coin

Magic Effect
You ask the spectator to hold out his or herhand palmup. You in turn place your handon top of theirs, palmdown. With your other freehand, you place a quarter or other magic coin on top of yourhand and explain to the spectator that with one quickslap of the magic coin, you will make it pass through your handand into theirs!

Magic Materials needed
2 identical magic coins, a small piece of transparent adhesive tape or magician's wax.

Magic Method
When you place yourhand on top of the spectators openhand, you will already have the coin in yourpalm. If you place yourhand on top of theirs quickly enough, the magic coin will not fall nor will the spectator already feel it in theirhand ! You then place the "other" coin ontop, on the back of yourhand.

On the magical palmof your other freehand, is where the magic tape or wax will be. Then with a quickmotion, you smack the top of the magic coin, which will stick to the tape/wax. Slowly remove your otherhand to let the surprised spectator see how it "magically" passed through yourhand! For those advanced magicians out there (you know who you are) you can quickly grab the quarter instead of using the tape/wax.

Float Cup in Public - Magic

Magic Effect

The magician announces that they are going to make an empty cup float. They release their grip on the cup and it appears to float in mid air.

You Need

Take an empty large paper cup. Carefully make a hole in one side of the empty cup, big enough for your thumb to stick through.

Magic Method

Hold the empty cup with both your hands and facing the others in your party, announce that you are going to try and make the cup float in mid air. Have one thumb pushed through the nearest side of the cup to you, out of view of your audience. Then, appear to be concentrating your mind on the cup and gradually open up both hands at the same time. While doing this, push your hands slightly forward as if you are following the floating cup and eventually grab the cup with both hands. Now, discreetly slip your thumb out from the side of the cup.

This is a simple magical illusion but it looks great when done at the right angle. Practice in front of a mirror to make sure that you get the angles and the timing right.

Magically Vanish A Coin

Magic Effect

A spectator tries to grab a quarter from your hand. The quarter mysteriously vanishes right in front of their eyes. You in your own cool street magician style, make the quarter re appear from out of the sky.

You Need

A quarter. A little bit of entertaining patter.

Magic Method

Approach a member of the public or your audience and ask if they are interested in a coin trick challenge.

If yes, then bring out a quarter or other coin from your pocket and hold it between your magical thumb and finger, in your right hand. Tell your assistant that you will count to three and on the count of three, if they can grab the coin from your hand, that they can keep it.

Now ask the assistant to stretch out their arm and hold their hand, palm up and open. Proceed to lift your hand with the coin, above your head and bring your hand down over their hand, counting one, two and three, each time you bring down your hand over theirs.

As you begin to bring down your hand for the third time, gently drop the coin on top of your head. When you bring down your hand and shout "Three"!! they will make a grab for the coin which will have mysteriously vanished.

Now hold out both your hands to show them that you are not concealing the quarter and that it has truly vanished. Tell your assistant that you will magically summon the coin back.

Hold out their hand in front of them. Open their hand palm facing up and as they are paying attention to their hand, use this moment of distraction to gently lower your head and let the quarter fall into their hand.

The coin will appear to have fallen from the sky. This is an easy to do street magic style trick exposed whose entertainment value is as good as your entertaining style allows it to be.

Pocket with a Hole - Magic

Magic Effect

Borrow a coin and have it marked. You say that you are always losing money through a hole in your pocket and then you drop the marked coin into your pocket. "What's weird", you say, "is that the hole isn't in this pocket (the one in which you dropped the coin), but in this one!" You lift up your other foot and the borrowed marked coin is there!

Magic Method

You need an extra coin. (Well, how did you think it was done?) Most people have a quarter on them, so let's say you want to borrow a quarter. On an "off moment", secretly place the extra quarter under your left foot. (I sometimes adjust my socks and stick it under the shoe.) Have someone loan you a quarter and ask them to mark it in some unusual way with a pen.

Take the quarter and just drop it into your right trouser pocket. Shake your leg as if you are shaking the coin into the hole and down your leg. Then say, "What's weird is that the hole isn't in this pocket (the one in which you dropped the coin), but in this one!" You lift up your other foot and the borrowed coin is there!

Then - and here's where you've got to have guts - pick up the coin with your right hand and place it (don't drop it!) into the right trouser pocket as you pick up the other coin with the same hand. (Just switch them.) With your hand still in the pocket, look confused and say, "I'm sorry, did you lend me this or was it mine?" He'll tell you it was his and you'll return his coin (the marked one). He'll, of course, inspect the coin for the mark.

Magical Snake Charmer

Magic Effect

You remove a plastic straw from its wrapper. Using the straw as a "magic wand" you command the wrapper to dance around the magical table.

Needed for Magic : a plastic drinking straw still in its wrapper.

Magic Method

You tear off the tip of the wrapper and throw it away. Gripping the straw at the tip with thefingers of onehand, and firmly squeezing the wrapper with the magical fingers of the otherhand, quickly pull the straw from the wrapper and drop the wrapper on the magical table.

Now, using the straw as a "magic wand", without touching the wrapper, slowly wave the straw over the end of the wrapper. The straw wrapper should sway around by itself as if in a hypnotic trance.

If the effect starts to wear off after a minute or two , you can re energise the wrapper by stroking it briskly along the straw.

This effect is due to static electricity. It is a real fun effect and works MOST of the time but can sometimes vary in effectiveness depending on weather conditions.

You show the four kings to the spectator and then place one on the bottom, two into the middle and leave the last one at the top of the deck. With a simple cut of the deck, you spread through the card to find the kings have all moved together!

Magic Method
To start, remove all four kings from the deck, along with any two indifferent cards. Place the two indifferent cards on top of three of the kings, and then place the final king on top of them.So from the top you have: (King)(Indifferent)(Indifferent)(King)(King)(King).

Fan these cards out face-up, with the two indifferent cards hidden behind the king in front of them. It should now look as if you have just 4 kings fanned out. Show this to your spectator, casually mentioning that the four kings you hold are best of friends. Square them up and place them face down on top of the deck.

Tell the spectator that you are going to seperate the kings and lift the top card up and place it at the bottom of the deck. You may allow the spectator to glimpse this as you do so as it's a king.
Take the next king from the top (although it's really an indifferent card.) and place it into the middle of the deck. Be careful not to allow the spectator to glimpse this one as it's an indifferent card.Do the same with the next card from the top.

Finally, you take the fourth card from the top and casually show it to the spectator as you suggest you're going to leave it there. Give the deck a cut to further mix the cards and then snap your fingers. The kings have magically reunited! Spread through the deck to find all four together!.

Know all Records in the Telephone Directory

Magic Effect

A spectator is asked to call out a three digit number, which is written down. Another spectator is asked to make certain calculations with the numbers, and announce the result. He is then asked to look in the telephone book at a page and name indicated by the results and concentrate on the name at that number. The magician concentrates, deeply and announces the name that the spectator has been concentrating only. Has the magician really read the spectator's mind?

Magic Method

Before staring this trick, turn to page 108 in the telephone book and count down to the 9th name on the page. Write this name on a slip of paper and seal it in an envelope. Ask someone to call out a three digit number, or have three different spectators each call out a one digit number. Write this down in plain view, on a slate or large sheet of paper.

Invite another spectator to come up to make some calculations. For example, suppose the number was 653. Ask him to reverse the number (356), and to subtract the lower number from the higher:

653-356 = 297

.
Ask him now to take the result (297), reverse it, (792) and add the two together:

297+792=1089

.
The answer will always be 1089, no matter what numbers are used. If only two figures result from the subtraction, be sure to add a zero at the left, such as 079.

Now the spectator who is holding the telephone book is asked to look on the page indicated by the first three numbers, 108, and to count down to the name indicated by the last number, 9.

The spectator is asked to concentrate on the name on the page and the magician appears to be concentrating also to try and read the spectators mind. After a short time, the magician announces the name that the spectator has been concentrating on. This is quite convincing mind reading magic. The trick can be varied by this method. Write the name to be chosen on a piece of paper which is then placed in an envelope and the envelope is then sealed. The spectator is presented with this envelope at the beginning of the trick which he is told, contains the magicians prediction. At the end of the trick, he is asked to open the envelope and announce the prediction.

Mind Reading Trick

Magic Effect : In this baffling routine the magician asks a member of the audience, a series of questions, a lot of them that are unique to that person. The spectator is asked to write each answer on a piece of paper and place the piece of paper in glass. At the same time, the magician is seen to be concentrating deeply and writing his prediction on a separate piece of paper which he also puts in another glass. After the last question has been asked, the magician's predicted answers are compared with the spectator's answers and are found to be the same. This can get an amazing reaction from the audience as the magician is seen to be able to read thoughts.

Magic Method: The spectator is asked a series of questions and asked to write them on a piece of paper and place the piece of paper in a glass. After each answer has been placed in the glass by the spectator, the magician asks the spectator what answer they had given. The magician acknowledges that he had also predicted that answer and placed it in his glass.
Really, the magician writes the spectators answer one question behind. The spectator has told the magician, the answer to the last question asked which the magician will write and put in his glass after asking the next question. When the first question has been asked and the spectator reveals his answer, the magician has placed his supposed prediction in another glass at the same time. What he has actually written on his paper is "carrot " which is the most probable answer to the final question that the spectator will be asked shortly. The will allow the magician to write each answer as the spectator reveals it. The spectator will be unaware that the magician is writing his answers one question behind. Take out the papers from the glasses and pair up the answers. Stand back and watch the amazed expression of your onlookers.

1) What is your favourite football team?
Spectator's Answer : Manchester United

2) Who is your favourite music artist?

Magic Effect:

The magician asks for a volunteer to write down four numbers on a piece of paper.
The magician asks the volunteer to TOTAL up the numbers.
The magician opens a sealed envelope and it has the same number as the TOTAL!
(or have the magic puppet pull out an envelope and hand it to the magician. Have the puppet "whisper" to the magician to open up the envelope.)

Magic Supplies:

piece of paper
a pen
an envelope

Magic Secret:

Before the show, write down a four figure number that is 2 times the current year's date. For example, in the year 2000, the number would = 4000. In the year 2008, the number would = 4016
Seal the paper in the envelope.
At the show, ask a helper to write down the year he was born.
Ask him to write down the year of an important event in his life (for example, the year he started school or the year he lost his first tooth)
Ask him to write down his age
Ask him to write down the number of years that have passed since the important event
(these numbers HAVE to be right *grin*... if it's been 4 years since the event and he writes down 3, the trick won't work)
The years have to be whole numbers (he can't say he's 6 and a half years old)
Have the assistant TOTAL the 4 numbers.
Open the envelope. The TOTAL will be the same as the number you already wrote down!

Magic Bottle Trick

Magic Effect:

The magician asks for a volunteer from the audience who looks inside a bottle to make sure it's a normal, empty container.The volunteer returns the magic bottle and then examines a magic wand to ensure it is normal.The magician drops the wand into the bottle (noting how easily it falls in).He/she turns bottle over and lets go of the wand. The wand magically remains suspended in the bottle.

Magic Supplies:

a magic wand (could use a pencil instead) that is taller than the bottle (when you drop the wand into the bottle, part of it should still be sticking up through the opening.
a bottle that has an opening large enough to fit the wand in (but not too big).
The bottle should not be see-throughan eraser If you don't have a bottle that is dark, you can put some dark paint inside the bottle and shake it around so the inside is painted.
Cut a piece off the eraser, just large enough to wedge the wand into the opening of the bottle. The eraser is what makes the trick work!

Magic Secret:

Pass the bottle to the volunteer and ask them to make sure its empty.Take back the bottle and give your friend the wand. Meanwhile, slip the piece of eraser into the bottle without anyone seeing (you can have it in your pocket until this point). You'll need to practice this a few times.Take the wand back and drop it into the bottle.Pick up the wand and bottle and turn them VERY SLOWLY upside down (mumble all sorts of magical enchantments while you're doing this). Pull on the wand slightly when the bottle is turning over so the piece of eraser gets wedged into the opening (you'll need to practice this a few times too).Let go of the wand... PRESTO! It doesn't fall out.Slowly turn upright again. Let go of everything and PRESTO the wand remains suspended in the bottle (it doesn't fall back down).To remove the wand, push it slightly to release the rubber and then take it out.

Quick Coin Vanish

Magic Effect: A coin is placed onto the magic desk. It is picked up and it magically vanishes.

Magic Method: First, let me tell you this is about as easy as a magic trick as it gets. Set the coin onto the magic desk with your lefthand. Say something like "Look at this" and reach over with your righthand. Then press down on the coin with your index, middle, and 3rd fingers with yourhand and armparrallel with the magic desk. Slide the magical coin towards you keeping in mind it should be completely covered up. Slide the coin off the magic desk so it falls into your lap. Touch your thumbto your middlefinger as if you are picking up the magic coin as it reaches the edge of the magic desk. Keeping all yourfingers closed still. Stare at where the coin should be as you slowly move your handaway from you back to about 6 inches above where the coin originally was. Start moving your thumbin a magical circular motion as if the coin is dissapearing. Slowly turn yourhand around and spread yourfingers apart. Now the rest is up to you. The more surprised you act and if you act like you were all fortunate to see a miracle, people will believe the trick even more.

Icy Magic

Magic Effect : Pour some water into a cup, magically blow on the cup and then turn it upside down where out pops some ice cubes.

Magic Supplies : You need a cup or glass that you can't see through. You also need a small sponge and and some ice cubes.

Magic Method : Prepare the cup by placing the magical sponge into the bottom of the cup. Then, drop a few ice cubes on top of the sponge and you're ready to go.
To perform the magic trick pour a small amount of water (about an inch) into the cup. The magical sponge will absorb the water. Blow into the cup, wave your hands over it and dump out the ice cubes.
If you are using a disposible plastic cup for the trick, just throw it away at this time.

Magic Effect
The magician asks for a volunteer from the audience.
The volunteer picks a number between 1 and 10.
The magician writes the magical number on a sugar cube.
The magician drops the cube into a cup of water and holds the volunteer's hand over the water.
He/she turns the volunteer's hand over and Poof! the number is on the volunteer's hand.

Magic Supplies

Secret
Have the volunteer pick a number.
Write it onto the magical sugar cube with a pencil (press hard).
Then, hold the cube between yourthumb and onefinger.
Hold it so the number transfers onto yourthumb and say," Now I will put this cube into the cup".
Press the cube as hard as possible so the magical number is on yourthumb.
Put the cube into the water and hold the volunteer's handabove the water, make sure yourthumb is in theirpalm so the number from yourfinger transfers onto the volunteer'shand.

Magic Effect: Holding a piece of rope, the magician places the ends of the rope into his hands and closes his magical fingers around the ends. The magician shakes the rope slightly, says a magic word, blows on his hands and drops one end of the rope. Magic! The end has a knot in it!

Magic Supplies: One long piece rope.

Secret: The rope already has a knot in one end. Tie a knot in one end of the rope. Hide this end with the knot in your hand and bring the other end of the rope up next to it. Shake your hand magically as if you're trying to knot it. Drop the end with the knot and it looks like you have tied a knot in the rope using one hand, magic.

Magic Coin Transformer

Magic Trick Effect : You throw a magic nickel into yourhand a couple of times and then close yourhand around it. When you open yourhand, it has turned into a quarter!

Magic Trick Method :

Place the quarter into your righthand fingers (known as the fingerpalm position, see magical illustration on the left showing yourfingers slightlycurled ) and then hold the nickel between your right indexfinger and thumbof the samehand. Only the nickel should be visible to the spectator.

Magical Coin held in finger palm position.

Throw the magic nickel into your leftpalm a couple of times and pick it back up again.

This time, pretend to throw it again, but instead retain it and drop the quarter into your leftpalm instead. Immediately close your lefthand around the quarter.

Conceal the magic nickel in your righthand and as you slowly open your lefthand, ditch the magic nickel into one of your pockets. The spectator will see that the magical coin in your lefthand has turned into a quarter!

Handkerchief And Vanishing Coin Trick

Magic Trick Effect : The magician sticks the coin into the magical handkerchief, turns it over and then the magical coin disappears from inside the handkerchief.

Magic Trick Secret : You secretly wrap a rubberband around yourfingers andthumb.

Magic Trick Performance : Then you place the magical handkerchief in thathand. With your otherhand place thecoin into thehandkerchief.
Then let the rubber band slide off of yourfingers and onto thehandkerchief, so it surrounds thecoin and it is under thehandkerchief.
You then slideyour handup to the end of thehandkerchief and shake it.
This makes it look like the magical coin has disappeared.

While frequently presented as a feat of strength—and it does require some strength—there is a little secret connected with it that enables the magician to do what most athletes can not. The illustration, Fig. Magic 1, shows how to hold the magical pack, and if this is studied and my directions are strictly followed, I believe that most of my readers will be enabled to include this in their programme. Hold the magic pack so that one endlies in thepalm of the lefthand with the two upperjoints of thefingers grasping the end, and the righthand holds the other end in the same way. In this position the second-jointknuckles of onehand rests on thewrist of the other. The heavymuscles at the base of thethumb are opposite each other. With the magic pack held in this way the handstwist in opposite directions. Bracing the lefthand against the upper part of theleg is of considerable help. A cheap "Steamboat" card tears more easily than a better card. As a conclusion, the halves may be torn in quarters.

Magic Trick Effect : When the audience have thoroughly shuffled the magic pack, the magician places it behind his back and begins to call out the name of a card. To convince his audience that he is right he skims the card toward them, so that they may see for themselves. Another card follows and another, and still another, until the audience are satisfied. Any pack may be used for the trick as there is absolutely no preparation of any kind.

Magic Trick Performance : Before beginning the trick the magician gets a sight of the top card of the pack. As soon as he places the cards behind his back he "palms" one card in his righthand—any one—and then taking the top magic card holds it lightly between the first and secondfingers of the righthand. Bringing thathand in front of him, half-closed, with the back toward the audience, magician moves thehand toward the shoulder and then with a short, quick jerk sends the magic card that is between hisfingers flying into the audience. This movement enables him to see the magical card that he has palmed, and that card is the next one to be called out. So he proceeds, as long as he pleases, palming the magical cards and throwing them to the audience.

A pack of cards that has been shuffled by the magician is handed to one of the audience with the request that he cut it several times. He is then asked to divide the magic pack into a number of piles or heaps, to place them near one another on the magic desk and cover them with a borrowed handkerchief. The heaps are laid face up. During these preparations the magician stands with his back to the magic desk. When everything is in readiness he turns and asks some one to touch one heap. Picking up this heap, still covered by the handkerchief, the magician holds it against his forehead, and immediately proceeds not only to call out the names of the cards in the heap, but also the order in which they follow. The heap, as yet uncovered, is handed to one of the audience, who examines the magic cards and verifies what the magician has told.

The prearranged magic pack is again brought into use. The magician gives the cards a false shuffle and then allows them to be cut, as often as desired, as that does not disarrange their order. After the heaps have been covered and one heap is selected, the magician picks this up with the handkerchief around it, and drawing the latter tightly over the top card is able to see the card through the meshes of the linen. The magician then proceeds to call off the cards in the order of the formula. A quick glance at the heap next to the one selected tells him the bottom card of those he is reading.

It may heighten the effect of the trick if, before calling out the names of the cards, the magician pretends to weigh the cards in the handkerchief and tell how many are in the heap. Of course, that is a simple matter with this pack.

The four sevens are sorted out of a magic pack and placed in a heap on the magical desk. Then seven indifferent cards are placed in a second heap alongside the first, and some one is asked to come forward and assist the magician.

Looking the man earnestly in the eyes for a moment, the magician writes on a slip of paper: "You will select the seven heap." This is folded and handed to the assistant with the request that he puts it in his pocket. He is then asked to select one of the heaps of magic cards. When this is done he is requested to read what is written on the magical paper. When he has done so, he is told to turn over the heap. No matter which heap is selected the prediction is verified. Should it be the heap with the four sevens, the magician turns over the other heap with the remark, "You see these are all different cards." On the otherhand should the heap of seven cards be selected, the magican merely counts them out one by one, without showing the faces of the other heap, merely spreading the magic cards apart to prove that there are only four cards there.

Magic Trick Effect

A Magic Card is selected by a spectator and placed back on top of the magical pack. The pack of cards is then cut several times and handed back to the magician. A pile of magical cards suddenly fall off the pack leaving the magician holding the spectators card.

Magic Trick Method

When the card is selected the card on the bottom of the pack iscrimped by the magicians pinky.

The spectators card is then placed on the top of the magical pack and the pack is cut.

This now means that the spectators card is underneath the crimped card.

The pack of cards can be passed around the room to be cut several times and the spectators card will always be under the crimped card.

The magical pack is then handed back to the magician who quietly puts histhumb under the crimped card, appearing to be clumsy and allows the cards above histhumb to fall on the floor. The card under histhumb will be the spectators.

The magician can also allow the rest of the cards to fall leaving only the spectators card in his hand.

This card trick looks amazing because the audience has seen that the magician has not had a lot of contact with the pack and the whole routine has been totally impromptu.

A Magic card is freely selected from a thoroughly shuffled pack and marked. It is shuffled back into the pack around which is placed a rubber band. The magic pack is then returned to the person who drew the card, with the request that hehold it. The magician now takes from his breast pocket a large lettercase or pocketbook, which is securely tiedwith astring. He cuts the string and takes out a sealedenvelope from the book. Tearing off one end of the envelope he asks the one who drew the magical card to put hisfingers into it and take out the contents. When the request is complied with the marked card is brought out. On examining the magic pack it is found that the magic card has left it.

The successful performance of this trick depends, in part, on the skilful palming of the bottom card of the pack. The peculiar arrangement of the pocketbook and the envelope are also essential features of the magic trick. Any letter case or magic pocketbook may be used, provided it is the proper length, which is about four by six inches. In it is placed a sealed envelope, which has one end neatly slit with a sharp knife, at the part AA, shown in Fig. Magic 1. Into this open end is inserted two strips of rather stiff paper, each an inch and a halfwide and fourinches long; twoinches of each going inside and the other twoinches remaining outside. The outside ends are slightly curled outwardly or, better still, each is folded over the side of the book. The book is then securely, but not too tightly, tied around, twice each way, with a string. This cord must be separated at the open end far enough to admit of the card being slipped into the magical envelope. (See Fig. Magic 1.) The pocketbook is kept in the right breast pocket of the coat.

When the drawn card is to be replaced in the magic pack, the magician has it put about the middle and making the "pass" brings it to the bottom. This move he follows with a false shuffle, which leaves the card undisturbed. Taking the magic pack in his lefthand, thethumb on top and the fingersbelow, the magician takes from his vest pocket with his righthand a rubberband, and stretching it over histhumb and the first twofingers, slips it over the magic pack. At the same moment the magical fingers of the lefthand close up and palm the bottomcard, as shown in Fig. Magic 3. The palming of the card and the affixing of the rubber band being made simultaneously, conceal the stealing of the card. The magician now takes the magic pack in his righthand, while his lefthand goes into the breast pocket, and slipping the card between the strips of paper, pushes it down into theenvelope. The strips of paper are then pulled out and left in the pocket, and the cord is properly adjusted. The pocketbook is now brought out; the magic pack is handed to the person who drew the card and he is told to find the card, but fails in his quest. The magician then removes the string from the pocketbook, tears off the open end of the envelope, and requests the one who drew the card to take it out of the envelope and identify it.
