Here's how I did in Kmart today. I have a lot of coupons expiring and they were good coupons so I headed for my first run in Kmart Doubles this week. OOP: $26.00 but without coupons, I would have paid $105.21.

I saved $79.21 and I have enough dishwashing needs for the next 6 months and pretty much stocked up on beauty stuffs. So I would only be budgeting for my food.

I am almost there... just a little more patience...

I know it's a lot of money to spend within 3 days but then I got enough:
1. Dishwashing liquid soap for the next 3 months
2. Lotion, Body wash, Facial moisturizer, foundation and shaver for the next 1-2 months
3. Laundry needs for the next month
4. Gum for 2 weeks
5. A month supply of Alli for my weight loss goal... *grins*

Without coupons, for everything you see on the picture (and the other things that was not included: Vaseline Sheer Infusion Lotion, Thermacare Hip and back Patch, Fritos, Bounce Dryer bar) I will have to pay a total of $176.73.

I saved $136.55!!! I need to do 6 transactions to maximize the ECB deals for this week.

I went to 2 CVS last Sunday to get my deals... I really did not get a lot since I will be taking my dear Honda Civic for maintenance and I know that it's going to break my wallet so control... control... control...

First, I went to CVS in Michigan Ave. to get my free Aussie Conditioner. It is on a 3-day sale: Buy 1 for $2.99 and get $2 ECBs. Actually, that was a moneymaker deal - it may be just $0.01 but hey, every cent counts, right?

Then later in the evening, I went to the CVS near my apartment to get the Neutrogena deal. I've got 4 $2 off any Neutrogena Face Cosmetics that were expiring that day and I love Neutrogena's foundations so I gotta make use of those coupons...

Yes! I finally have one... I mean I had before but I just made it out of the materials I can get from work. :) Anyways, I think I could say that this one is still FREE coz I used the $5 gift card that I got from buying Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner Starter Kit in Target...

I bought 4 newspapers so I had 8 inserts - that's a lot! I have 4 Get $5 Target Gift Card when you buy Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Cleaner Starter Kit. This one has an IP Manufacturer Q $7 off. The price in Target is $12.99 - $7 MQ = $5.99 and $5 GC so actually, it's just $0.99 for one. Can't beat that!

Then I roll the GC to get 3 more Starter Kits (hmmm... can be put into Grocery gift baskets for Christmas...) and had to pay $0.99 only everytime I buy one. Total OOP = $5.99+$0.99+$0.99+$0.99 = $8.96 for 4 = $2.24 each and I still have my $5 GC. I used it to buy the $3.49 expandable file envelope coupon size that I saw in the Office supplies section.

Therefore, I got it for Free and still got $1.30 left in my GC to be used maybe for another Kellog's Fuel For School Deal.

And I like coz it fits in my purse. So I can always carry it with me anytime and have my coupons when I need them...

Actually, the word "FREE" still exists...

Yesterday, the Drayber and I went to Target to get the 4th FREE 10 bottles of Sobe Lifewater. Yes! That's right, I got them FREE and who said that NOTHING IN THIS WORLD IS FREE? hehe...

They are on-sale for $1 each and when you buy 10, you get a $5 Target gift card. Using 5 of Sobe Buy One Get One coupons from here, you get them for free. I am so lucky that I have access to a lot of computers 'coz you can only print 2 coupons per computer. I was able to print 20 coupons in total. I used 5 for 1st transaction and paid $5 OOP. Then I went there again the next day to get another 10 - use 5 coupons and pay difference with the $5 gift card I got from 1st and get another $5 gift card. Basically, on my 2nd transaction, I did not pay anything and still got back the $5 gift card. Isn't it amazing? :D The Drayber was grinning because he used to pay $1.50 for a bottle in gas stations and he could not believe I'll be getting it for free.

Now, he's even the one who asks when I am going to grocery-shop 'coz he wants to come with me. Anyways, he will just be there as my assistant payor (don't know if this is the correct term). LOL! So we can do two transactions and in that way, whatever GC I can get from my transaction, I give to him to pay the 2nd set of groceries. We did the same trick with the Kmart Double and that was fun!!!

A newbie adventure in CVS'ing

Well, I figured out I am not good in getting extra money in this blogginng thing. Also, I gave up trying to catch Old Navy coupons (and it will going to end up this month anyway...). So, to get extra budget for my shopping spree (I wish I can really do a shopping spreee), I discovered other ways - CVS'ing - which means finding deals in CVS (a popular drugstore here in the US)- in which aside of getting discounts from their bargain prices and using manufacturer coupons, they also have this ECB (Extra Bucks) which you can use for your next purchase. It's just like they're giving your money back so you'll buy in there again.

Since, I started doing this, I think I started 2 weeks ago, I can say that I have already saved almost more than $75 on my beauty needs.:)

Kalamay-Hati/Kalamay Recipe

Since All Saint's Day (November 1) is approaching, I might just post a recipe of Kalamay-hati (or also known as Kalamay in Bohol and Cebu). All Saint's Day or Araw ng mga Patay is a big deal in the Philippines - my country. It is the day where everybody go to the cemetery and light candles for their dead realtives, say a novena and attend mass in there. It is this time of the year, aside from Holy Friday (Viernes Santo) that native foods like Baye2x, Kalamay-Hati/Kalamay, Binignit, Suman, Valenciana, etc. are prepared. Some bring portions of this foods and put it in the tomb of the dead ones. Others just put them in their mini-altars at home or just a small table in the corner with a lighted candle. It is a belief that souls of the dead ones go back to earth and smell the scents of the foods that are being offered to them. There is also a belief that if you put flour or salt in your doorstep, you will observe that there will be footsteps on it, which means that you had some unlikely visitors. It's creepy, right? hehehe... Well, if US celebrates Halloween on the night of October 31st - the day before All Saint's Day - then I think November 1 is our Halloween.

(Sorry. I forgot to take pictures.)

Ingredients:

2 cups glutinous rice flour
2 cups dark brown sugar (you can adjust the amount according to your taste)
4 cups coconut milk (combine two cans of coconut milk and add 1 cup water)

Note 1: If cooking for more people - just always have this ratio - 1:1:2.
Note 2: Light brown sugar is fine too. I prefer to use dark brown sugar because it is closest to muscovado, which is used by my lola (native kalamay-hati recipe from Negros).

Prep time: 10 min
Cooking time: approx. 2-3 hours (kapoy jud ni pero worth it man sad… labi na igkaon nimo igka-next day unya gamay na lang nabilin… nagkalami… hahaha…)
Good for 4-6 servings.

Procedure:

1. In a large saucepan/wok, combine coconut milk and rice flour. Stir until there’s minimum lumping in the mixture.
2. Cook in medium heat. Stir while cooking to prevent mixture from sticking at the bottom of the pan.
Note 3: Stir in one direction only to minimize lumping.
3. Keep on stirring for 30 minutes. (At this point, you will notice that the mixture is going to lump like jell-o but it’s normal. The lumping will just go away later.)
4. Add dark brown sugar and keep on stirring until mixture thickens to desired consistency.
5. If you want your kalamay to be very thick and sticky, cook it in low heat when it is already thick enough that it’s a little heavy for you to stir it. (sabta na lang ninyo… di ko kibalo mo-iningles…) Keep on stirring to avoid burnt mixture at the bottom of the pan.
6. Take off from heat and cool.

Serve plain or sprinkle sesame seeds on top or serve as “palaman” (condiment) for Pandesal.

I am just a simple gal trying to make ends meet. Through the sites like KCL, Dealseekingmom and Hip2Save, I discover the power of Coupons. I am hoping that sooner but not later, I would be able to iron-out my finances and would be able to save something for myself out of the little resources that I have right now. I have a very big responsibility back home and so I've been living paycheck-to-paycheck since. Also, I hope that others would also benefit from the deals that I post in here that I found by myself and from the other blogs that I follow.
