What is Genesis theme framework?

Genesis theme framework is a beautifully crafted WordPress parent theme framework that has been designed to help you take your WordPress powered website from ‘average’ to ‘awesome’, not just on the outside but more importantly on the inside too.

Getting a professionally designed website at an affordable price has been made absolutely simple and possible with the power of Genesis from StudioPress. Genesis will give your site a complete competitive edge over your competitors, with impeccable performance and functionality. We review Genesis theme framework and find out why we think it’s the best Premium WordPress theme framework on the market.

Why do I think Genesis is Brilliant?

I’ve been an avid Genesis user for almost two years and have tried many of their premium ready made themes with many web projects, I have also used many other frameworks such as Headway and Thesis and when compared with Genesis, there is simply no contest between them. Genesis offers far more better value and performance for your money. I’m not just a fan of the product, I’m an avid user, and developer on a steep learning curve.

Take Genesis for a Test Drive >>

So what makes Genesis theme framework so special that you simply have to use it? We’ll in this review you’ll find out…

Flawless Design Quality & Security

Genesis has been created with not just external aesthetics in mind, but also what matters the most in a good premium WordPress theme is what’s on the inside, the functionality of the theme.

With Genesis you’re getting a professionally coded theme that is worth 4 times it’s weight in gold. We are all aware of the security concerns’ regarding the popularity of WordPress and the hackers that prey upon it’s users, well Genesis was designed with that security in mind; you can rest assured that your site will remain guarded and won’t be vulnerable to security threats from hackers with Genesis.

Something that many other premium and more over, free WordPress themes don’t offer much of… security.

40+ Beautifully Crafted Child Themes

When you purchase Genesis you can purchase a package that includes one of their 40 plus beautifully crafted child themes. Each child theme is created to a high standard and there is something to suit every type of site. There is also a wide range of themes to choose from created by the StudioPress community of developers.

Again when you purchase any of the child themes for Genesis, you are getting unlimited everything including those all important updates, which brings us to the feature.

Simple & Unlimited Updates for Life…

One of the biggest advantages of using Genesis is that you get unlimited updates after you’ve made your purchase and installed it into your WordPress blog. Unlike many other popular frameworks you don’t just get 6 or 12 months worth of updates and that’s it, but a lifetime worth of updates. More over Genesis has made it real simple to apply those updates using a simple on-click update from your WordPress dashboard.

Again focusing on the security aspects, no one likes to discover that their WordPress site has been hacked into, I’m sure you wouldn’t. Updating to the latest versions of WordPress and Genesis when prompted adds even further reinforcement to the security of your WordPress site.

Take Genesis for a Test Drive >>

Genesis is Simple to Customize

Yet another great feature with Genesis is that it offers users the ability to customize their WordPress site effortlessly. Genesis comes complete widget ready with plenty of theme options available. You can view the full Genesis options page here >> http://www.studiopress.com/images/genesis/theme-settings.png

Genesis offer Exceptional Value for Money

Genesis is used by top bloggers like Chris Brogan and Darren Rowse from ProBlogger, so that’s a statement in itself. Why do those guys trust Genesis? Simple, because it offers so much, and so much at an exceptional price too. Genesis will set you back $59.95, if that’s not a bargain then I don’t know what is. At that price you’re getting one of the most, if not the most powerful premium WordPress theme frameworks on the market.

Verdict

It’s fair to say we love Genesis theme framework, and we believe that if you love your blog and want to be serious about blogging on a professional level, then give your WordPress site the stability, the security and the performance it deserves; invest in Genesis theme Framework today, it gets a 5 star rating from me, and rarely does that happen.

So, the only way out is to confront it head first. Turn this negative feedback into opportunity to get cozy with the targeted audience though there are some hard work involved but believe me, the outcome will be just awesome.

Listen to what people are saying about your company

You need find out what other people are saying about your company. Now since the world we are living in is not perfect, you may find that people are talking foul about your company even when the fault is not yours.

You need to set Google Alerts with the name of your company and you will have automated mail to your mail box whenever there is any mention about your company. Keep a hawk eye on your Facebook page, as you never know when a disgruntled customer will blurt out something bad against your company.

Is it worthy of a response?

It is not good for a big corporate organization to get involved in an open fight whenever someone posts something against it. If someone posted something in a small forum, you should not pick up a fight. This is not going to do any good to you and your brand image.

It can draw undue attention that could easily be averted. Sometimes, if you happen to find a hot headed, my humble suggestion is to avoid them or ignore them at their best because it is not good to argue with reasons. They are not going to listen to your theories; they’re more interested in making you buy theirs.

Don’t put it on hold

Once you spot a negative feedback, you need to act decisively and proactively. Do not waste a minute because things will start getting out of your hand as the time passes and the person may get more angry and frustrated. At least, give them the understanding that you are looking into the matter, even when you are not.

Be a Human

You should not act or react like a dumb head or headless corporate honchos. You should feel the pain of the person who is complaining about your company and therefore, you need to approach with empathy.

Use your real name and show him that you are really sorry for whatever the cause may be. It is easy to shout against a company but when an official with that company interrupts, everything changes. Start something with this, like – This is Mathew from Company name and you will see dramatic difference in the circumstances.

Offer a public apology

If you see that you are responsible for the problem caused, you should come up with a strong public apology. It will earn you respect from people around you rather than letting things go out of your hand. Come clean on whatever you have done and you will have a better world to live in, believe me.

Offer a good will gesture

If you have apologized, it is time to make up for the loss of reputation. You have to turn the tide against your side by offering something back that will make the person say some good things about your company, or make a U turn from his former position.

No fighting pleas…

As mentioned, it is bad idea to get into a fight with someone you barely know. It is quite common for people to say bad things but you should not go on the offensive side and start abusing the person or attack him headlong. Listen to what they are saying and then try to reason with them. Don’t be emotional and be your own critic and you will have a better world to live in…

It is no doubt one of the most widely used methods of blog monetization for many bloggers and webmasters. For the last 12 months or so AdSense has been paying me around $70 to $100 a month in revenue and increasing very little each month, and whilst many people might think that is pretty low income, I really don’t think it is low, that’s potentially $800+ a year, enough to pay for my holiday… So why have I removed AdSense from my blog?

Here are my reasons…

First Reason – The first and foremost reason is that when I began blogging here at Magnet4Marketing some two years ago, I made the crazy mistake of adding AdSense code to each and every single one of my blog post instead of using a dedicated plugin. I added AdSense to top and bottom of every post manually… that was a crazy thing to do.

Whilst I’m now removing AdSense slowly I’d like to introduce it back to the blog later on in the year using a dedicated WP plugin, but before I do I have to remove AdSense to some 600 posts manually. If anyone has a recommendation for a good AdSense WP plugin, leave me a comment below.

Second Reason – I wanted to see if AdSense was in anyway affecting my affiliate earnings. Before I added AdSense the blog was making a steady amount of income from affiliate marketing, this income over the years have decreased, so by not having AdSense present on this blog, I will check to see if affiliate earnings increase.

I’d much prefer to have a visitor click on an affiliate link that they find useful and relevant and make a purchase from it, in which I can earn a good commission from, rather than them to click out on an AdSense ad link and I end up getting paid a few measly cents for it. Again let me know your own thoughts on this…

Third Reason – The third reason as to why I’m removing AdSense from my blog is because I wanted to give YOU, my readers a break from seeing AdSense ads, and instead having content to greet you when you land on a page or post. I’ve always believed that displaying content first, then ads secondly is the best method, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one too.

So those are the reasons as to why I removed or removing AdSense from the blog. I’m hoping that over the next few months as traffic increases slowly and we continue to add great content to the blog, affiliate earnings will increase, and perhaps I won’t need to use AdSense again, or I may just ad a single AdSense block at the top of each page.

What are your thoughts?

Are you using AdSense on your blog? How is your income from AdSense looking? Do you think you might make more money from affiliate marketing if AdSense wasn’t present on your blog? Share with me your thoughts and reactions below as always.

I know this isn’t a travel blog of any sort but blogging is about sharing the things you love right?

I’ve been enjoying chilling out by the pool and having a grand tour of this stunning volcanic Island with some great friends over the last couple of days.

I’m currently staying in Gran Canaria, which is one of the larger islands part of the Canary Islands situated on the north western coast of Africa.

Gran Canaria is also the second most populated island of the Canary Islands and has just fewer than 1 million people cohabiting here. There are 7 islands making up the volcanic originated Canary Islands. I visited Lanzarote, Feurteventura and Tenerife a good few years ago and I personally think that Gran Canaria is the prettiest of the Canary Islands.

Blogging on Vacation

I’ve also been able to update the blog a couple of times throughout the week, replying to comments and checking my emails in general, however access is limited so I’m not able to do everything that I normally would from the desk. I once dreamt of owning a blog that could one day pay for a vacation, and although it’s taken me a year to save enough money, I did it and I can say I’m blogging on vacation. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not as successful at blogging as a lot of other people might be, but it paid for my holiday and that to me is cool.

I took away with me a Dell Latitude Netbook and my iPhone 4S, and the complex in which I’m staying in has Wi-Fi anyhow.

I also took a couple of books to read on my holiday, one of which I’d highly recommend is the exclusive biography of Steve Jobs written by Walter Isaacson. It is definitely an inspiring book to read and provides a great insight into the life of a modern digital world legend that is Steve Jobs…

Not that I can’t wait to get back in the office because truthfully, I hate going home after a really nice break away, especially to a place like this, however we should be back in the office properly on 28th May and back in the full swing of things, so see you all soon.

I’ll leave you with some photos from the holiday so far, some taken with a Pentax Digital I-10 12.1 megapixel camera and some with my iPhone 4.

Please note that I’ve added some Amazon affiliate links to the things I’ve taken on my holiday

Users can search by topics or trends, start or follow conversations about them, and plenty of other options. Twitter is buzzing with questions: Will So.cl survive social media world? Why do people change social networks? As social and search continue to converge, brands and SME’s will need to take new tools that combine social and search into account when planning marketing.

In this episode of Future of Engagement, Murray looks at the So.cl network’s soft launch, what social media commentators think, and digs further into what this all means for your brand.

Whether you’re a niche business with an online presence looking to promote your business, or a blogger looking to spread your authority further online, you can benefit from guest posting in many ways.

Content is the life blood of any blog, the more high quality content you are able to add to your blog the better. One of the best ways to ensure you’re adding great content to your blog is by allowing for guest writing.

Unfortunately however many blog’s that accept guest writers run the risk of publishing a lot of content that is of poor quality and sometimes irrelevant, which brings us back to our recent post about accepting guest writers on your blog.

Recommended Reading: Things You Need to Know Before Accpeting Guest Writers On Your Blog from Now On…

There is one way however that you can ensure that your blog receives the utmost top quality, unique and relevant content from guest writers, and that’s by paying your guest writers to write great content for you.

What? Pay them… but…

I know what you’re thinking; you really can’t afford to pay your guest writers. Well you don’t have to go all out to begin with. Start introducing it slowly… If you can pay for just one or two good posts per month, it’s a good start. Paying guest writers though requires a lot more aggressiveness in terms of what you expect from authors and the guidelines you set, without of course being prejudice.

You of course can’t possibly accept every post that is pitched to you for paid guest writing, and so you’ll have to be honest with your authors, especially if you have a budget. If you think it isn’t worth paying $30 or $40 for a guest article then don’t accept it. Simply let the author know or ask them to make any changes required before consideration. Or if you meet your monthly criteria then let them also know that their post will be published the following month.

Another tip is, If you’ve published a couple of posts from a paid writer and you’re seeing very little interest being presented to those particular posts, then also consider the next articles they submit very carefully.

Your paid to write services that you offer writers should be to gain you the very best content for the price you’re willing to pay them.

Ok, let’s look at some of the reasons why you should consider paying your guest writers.

Better Content Quality, Relevancy

As we mentioned above briefly that paying guest writers to contribute to your blog means that you will be expecting to publish much higher quality content than normal. Content that is laser targeted in relevancy for your audience. Since the approval process for paid guest posting will be much tougher, your writers will be encouraged to push out their best content to help them get approved much quicker above the rest.

Rewarding for your Top Writers

It is also rewarding for your top writers knowing that they’re getting paid a decent stream of income for putting out their best work. It gives freelance writers in particular a unique opportunity to get paid for doing what they enjoy doing and that’s to create great content.

Having a paid guest article approved is a huge confident and motivation booster for any blogger; it will encourage them to create more great content for your blog in the future.

Helps to Increase your Blog’s Authority and Credibility

Of course as you begin to add more top level content in whatever niche you blog in, you have a greater chance of increasing the authority of your blog also. Readers will come flocking realizing that your blog offers something unique that other blog’s don’t. All thanks to you paying your top writers to create the very best content for your readership.

Help you to Build Stronger Relationships with your Writers

Finally and one of the most important benefits of paying your guest writers for writing on your blog, and that it will help you to develop stronger relationships with them. Many guest writers come and go; I call them ‘one hit wonders’. They create a post and disappear without a trace, they don’t even come back to reply to comments in some instances. Paying your writers means that you get to build solid, stronger, longer lasting relationships with them.

What do you think?

So what do you think about paying one or two of your top level guest writers for their work? Or perhaps you do already! Let me know your thoughts and reactions in the comment section below.

Just when you think you’ve developed a strategy to master search-engine marketing and shoot to the top of the search results, Google introduces changes that send you right back to the drawing board.

Google has rolled out yet another update to its ever-changing algorithm, and many bloggers and site owners have been left reeling. The latest change — the Google Penguin update — has put more focus on the incoming link profile for a site, and more than 1 million sites have been notified that their site was considered in violation of these new standards.

Here’s a breakdown of the key changes for the new Google Penguin update:

Link Profile

Google has started evaluating not only how many links a site has, but the quality of the links, as well. Examples of poor links can include:

Directories

Parked domains

Link exchanges

Links in footers

Consecutive links with no descriptive text

Links from low-quality sites

Links from unrelated sites

Essentially, Google is looking to penalize sites that have a large number of links it considers to be irrelevant or spammy, such as sponsored links. Other links that raised flags for Google included those from guest posts on unrelated or spammy sites, article marketing sites, and reported phishing or attack sites.

Anchor Text

Sites who have a good link profile are still being dinged for the anchor text that is being used for those links. Google penalized sites that had too many links using exact match keywords rather than the brand name or url.

From analysis of the changes on various websites, it appears that the sites who were penalized had exact match keywords being used in anchor text for at least 50 percent of their incoming links. Sites who used their site title or URL — such as www.magnet4marketing.net — or other more general terms such as “click here” or “this post” for their anchor text had a more favorable link profile.

Now that you understand the new changes from Google Penguin, what can you do to make your site safe from losing page rank? Here are a few ideas:

Start Pruning Your Links

If you have been performing your own marketing and SEO, you should know where your backlinks are coming from. If you haven’t been doing a good job of keeping track, you can find the information through your analytics or an SEO analysis tool like SEO Moz. If you use an SEO company, ask for a report of your link profile.

Evaluate the links, and start removing links from any sites that will be deemed suspect by Google. If you can, manually remove your link — such as those from blog directories or link exchanges. Get rid of paid links that aren’t placed contextually within a post.

You may have to contact site owners to ask them to remove your link, especially if it was part of a guest post you wrote, or if the blog owner linked to one of your posts as reference. This could be awkward, but you’ll suffer more in lost traffic and earnings if you don’t do it. If the site owners reject your request, you can notify Google of your attempts to remove the links so that they may not be counted against you.

Diversify Your Anchor Text

Stop focusing on only one or two keywords for your backlink marketing strategy. Diversify the keywords you use, and be sure to include non-keyword anchor text, such as your own brand name or URL. Be sure to keep a spreadsheet of your backlinks that includes the site, the type of link, and the anchor text used for the link. It will help you to identify whether you have enough variety in your keyword use for your anchor text so you know when you are in danger of getting flagged by Penguin.

Be sure to check out organic links through your analytics and to note the anchor text used there. Contact site owners if necessary to request a change, or be sure to diversify your own efforts to offset it.

Diversify Your Link Profile

Relevant links from authoritative sites are what Google wants to see. Getting links from top sites within your niche will help you far more than hundreds of links from unrelated or spammy sites.

If you are unable to remove lower-quality links, or you want to keep the links you have worked to build even if they are not up to Google standards, you can offset the negative links by building up strong backlinks within your niche. Creating a diverse link profile will help protect you from any losses from your weaker links.

Keeping your site at the top of search results requires you to keep up with Google’s changes and to change your marketing strategy wherever necessary. To ensure that your site maintains a healthy page rank after the Penguin update, you need to analyze your link profile and your keyword performance to see if there are any weaknesses in your marketing efforts. Ensuring that you have a diverse link profile and use a variety of keywords and non-keywords for your anchor text will help you survive Google’s latest update.

What is Negative SEO?

SEO practices which is targeted towards reducing the SERP rankings of a website or blog is negative SEO. The experts say it is easy to bombard the SERP rankings of competitor sites and downgrade its authority in Google’s eyes.

Recently, the popular SEO professional, Dan Thies, proves this concept right by lowering the Google ranking of his three keywords over a thousands spots within a month. Further, Rand Fishkin from SEOmoz has challenged people to use negative SEO tactics and try to reduce the organic rankings of SEOmoz or RandFishkin.com. His premise is that negative SEO does not work on well established sites. He says:

“I’ve never see it work on a truly clean, established site. I’d rather they target me/us than someone else. We can take the hit and we can help publicize / reach the right folks if something does go wrong. Other targets probably wouldn’t be so lucky.”

While some will call this announcement boastful, it raises a pertinent issue – can well established sites be downgraded with negative SEO? Let’s see some of the tactics people use to unleash negative SEO.

Negative SEO Tactics – Beware!

Note: Don’t use these tactics on a competitor; rather, learn about these and prevent your site from negative SEO injection.

(1) Click Bombing –

Negative SEO experts will click bomb sites running AdSense or AdWords. Ideally, Google can easily predict unqualified clicks but sometimes, they pass the Google radar and it can negatively affect the search engine rankings of the website. Repetition of click bombing can lead to AdSense getting banned permanently.

(2) Virus Injection

Sometimes you click on a search engine result and the next page shows a warning as the webpage or website being potentially dangerous, right? This is an example of virus injection in negative SEO where the site is infected through cross site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities. If this is not diagnosed and rectified, Google will remove the site from its listings.

(3) Google Bowling

This is the act of making Google believe that a site is engaging in spam and hence, get the site removed or de-indexed. The spam alert radar on Google goes up when a site receives lots of back links in a matter of few days from link farms, bad neighborhood sites and spam pages.

Further, if the agency or person engaging in negative SEO begins to drop the target site links in thousands on directories, blogs, forums and link farms, it is likely to be detected and classified as ‘black hat’ SEO technique and thus, lead to complete de-indexing.

Summing Up

These were some negative SEO tactics. Other link paid linking, falsified DMCA removal notices DOS attacks are some other negative SEO practices. A website owner has to protect their online initiatives from these practices.

In the next installment, we will discuss the ways to prevent negative SEO practices.

Want to know how? Stick around and you’ll find out, as today we’re going to look at some simple ways to make money with YouTube.

Effectively there are two common ways to make money with YouTube, using AdSense and reviewing products as an Amazon affiliate or affiliate video marketing in general.

Before you can begin to make money with YouTube though you’ll need to have a channel and ideally some original videos… like you really didn’t know that.

So, the first step if you don’t already have a YouTube account is to create one, and then create about a dozen quality and useful videos.

Building an Audience

To successfully make money with YouTube, you’ll need to be creating and uploading original videos on a regular basis, and driving lots of traffic or views to those videos. To get lots of hit’s you’ll need an audience; your audience can also be viewed as channel subscribers. We have an awesome post on how to promote your YouTube channel here:

45 Ways to Promote your YouTube Channel

Create Useful Videos

As we mentioned earlier, you need to create useful videos and consistently. I’ve found the best ways to do this is to create videos that you’re interested in creating i.e. like in blogging you need to have a passion. For example, if your passion is surfing, then create and upload surfing related videos.

One of the best ways to help you decide what kind of videos to create is to have a browse on YouTube yourself. See what’s popular and what others are doing in your area of interest, are they getting tons of hits with their videos? Are there areas where they’ve missed the boat completely and where you have an opportunity to share something new and fresh? Do some research…

Remember to create video content that is 100% unique and yours. So no copyrighted music, images or any other copyrighted material should be used in your videos. This is especially important if you want to apply to participate in YouTube Partner program.

Once you have a few videos on your channel you’ll soon be able to see what your viewers are interested in viewing by analyzing your channel stats. This will help you create more useful and needful video content.

Create and Upload Videos Regularly

We also mentioned this earlier, just like having a blogging frequency, being consistent is essential, so ensure you create video content for your channel and for your subscribers frequently. Have an upload calendar, decide how many video reviews, video blogs and how to videos you want to create each week.

Monetizing using Google AdSense

We mentioned that there were two common ways to make money with YouTube, the first is with AdSense. To make money with your YouTube channel using Google AdSense you’ll need to sign up to YouTube’s Partner program and have an AdSense account. There are some minimum requirements and application approval isn’t exactly instant for neither, but once you’ve been accepted you can start monetizing your videos with immediate effect.

Promoting Affiliate Products

One of my favorite ways to make money with YouTube is by promoting affiliate products and services. If you’re an affiliate such as an Amazon Associate member YouTube is the perfect tool, because you can create a whole wad of video reviews, and how to videos and add your affiliate link in the video description.

One of the best ways to succeed at making money with affiliate video marketing is by promoting niche products related to your area of interest. For example, if you blog about technology and you have a YouTube channel, create videos promoting technology related products, i.e. Smartphone’s, tablet computers, computing and peripherals.

Get YouTubing…

So we mentioned creating quality videos is important, being consistent is important, promoting the right products and services that interest you is important. The other vital ingredient is being a regular YouTuber; which involves interacting with the community, your subscribers, leaving video responses on other related videos, joining groups, promoting via social media etc.

To make money with YouTube takes time and a little hard work, like anything that involves making money online, but the rewards can be overwhelming, the best of luck to you.
