Up And Coming Comedian: Jett Wilson

2012-07-02T00:12:00.003-07:00

Bro, let everybody out there who don't know you know who you are and what you do!

My name is Jett Wilson I'm a stand up comic/ actor/ writer from Fort Lauderdale, Fl

Where can people find you bro?

I'm a local comic I'm prolly somewhere at a open mic rite now working on my set, but I'd prefer my e mail jettwilson954@gmail.com I'm also on twitter just @ me, @JettWilson , on Facebook Jett Wilson and on YouTube JettTv and on instagram under the same name!

Who inspired you to do what you do an why?

I would have to say Martin Lawrence made me wanna be a comedian, Richard Pryor made me love comedy, and Mike Epps and Patrice Oneal make me want to keep going!!!

How long have you been doin what you do?

I got on stage at the Hollywood Improv when I was 16 years old and haven't gotten off the stage since, I'm 24... 8years!!! But the last 2 years have been my most consistent years in comedy

Why do you do it?

I love making people laugh, I love the attention when I'm on stage and the fact that people want to listen. I look into the crowd a lot at their crowd facial expressions and the more and more I'm on stage it seems like the more they want to hear. Besides that this is a one man job, I don't have a teammate on stage it's just me, and I love holding my own weight out there it's a real rush.

Where do you hope/aim to be in the next three years?

In the next 3 years I just want to be an established comedian, that doesn't have a set crowd I can only perform in front of, I want to be able to get on stage anywhere and get the same results, LAUGHTER!!

What words of encouragement do you have for someone coming up tryna do what you do?

I tell a lot of comics to be themselves, advice we've all heard our entire lives but it's also the best advice you can get in this comedy game. People wanna know what bothers you, your story, your life, not someone else's you trying to portrait. So just be yourself, talk about what you feel comfortable talking about

What makes you different from everyone else who's doin what you do?

One of the biggest differences between me and other comics is I don't do this for the money I actually love doing stand up, if I'm able to come up financially I'd be happy but just to be able to be considered as a comedian and such

What projects are you workin on?

I'm on the road now putting together a 30 minute set for my 3rd local DVD "Live, Local, and Late Breaking". I plan on putting together a comedy special in my hometown of Fort Lauderdale, Fl

Any closing remarks?

I appreciate you guys opening up to me and inviting me on your blog, I'd like to give a s/o to my Mother, thank God for allowing me to do this much and basically ask them people to Free my Daddy

Up And Coming Artist: Handles

2012-05-25T20:26:00.000-07:00

Introduce yourself homie:

-How are you doing? I go by Handles, lyrical emcee from VA. Check out my page handles.bandcamp.com and follow me on twitter: @Handles757

Aight aight. So give us a lil something about you bro. What would your bio say about you? And why should we follow you as an artist?

-A dream does not remain a dream for long when you wake up every day with the motivation to achieve it. Aspiring rapper Handles brings new meanings to the word “hunger”; consistently displaying his drive to fulfill his appetite for artistic success.

-To the Virginia State University student body, he’s Kentral Savage while to music-craving ears, he’s the savaging beast known as Handles; flooding airwaves with a lyrically incising set of bars that you not only bob your head in unison to, but mentally commend him for his perpetual ambition. Similar to the soothing effect elevator music has on most individuals, Handles provides you with musical delights that can be played virtually anywhere; AKA: no curse words.

-While many rappers in their adolescent 20’s struggle to locate the adjectives in their minds to express the emotions of their verses, he seemingly effortlessly flows his thoughts through his mouth, censor-free. Proving to listeners both young and old how set apart he is from the social stigma of rappers today.

-Why I think I'm different? Well, I properly make the bed I choose to lay in, I study the art of music production, ultimately strengthening my natural talent. With a commitment to each and every aspect of learning, I continue to pursue my master’s degree with both an associate and bachelor’s degree already notched on my belt. Such motivation to my intellect shines throughout my lyrics, and inspires nearly everyone to master the craft they are blessed with.

Why did you choose rapping as a career option?

-I think music is in everyone. My belief is that it unites every soul with the sole purpose of keeping us all connected through music and forever bonded to the liberation of self-expression.

-I am a bold person with a bold message – say what you have to say and say it your way. Devotion is the motive, success is the goal, and expression is key. I believe the melodic art provided by Kentral “Handles” Savage is not to be heard but to be listened to.

Reviews

“Savage's youthful vigor is matched only by his surprisingly mature musical ability.” - A&R Select

"I had previously heard some of his joints on YouTube and liked where dudes head was. So when the mixtape dropped I was like yes sirree! Let me tell you. I was not let down. Neck was hurting after it was over. I mean, it’s a head nodder most of the way through. And lyrically, he takes me back to a time when it wasn't just about money, it wasn't about fame, it was about respecting the culture and dropping jewels in your ear." - Ms.Anita, becauseilovehiphop.com

"One of hottest young niggas on the fucking planet, and thats right, I am co-signing this nigga!" - DJ Young Cee, Shadyville/G-Unit's DJ - G-Unit Records

"I was impressed and I think they will be too." - Soul Wallace, COO, Business Manager for Skyzoo - Shining Shadow Recordings

NEW STUDY “BLACK WOMEN ARE FAT & HAPPY”

2012-02-29T07:29:00.002-08:00

While they tend to be heavier than white women, a new study by the Washington Post/Kaiser Family Foundation discovered they’re significantly happier with their bodies.
While only 41% of average-sized or thin white women report having high self-esteem, 66% of overweight or obese black women feel the same, the study found. Observers says that black females are particularly adept at shrugging off social expectations that don’t fit what they want for themselves. While 90% of black women surveyed said living a healthy lifestyle is important to them, that doesn’t mean being tiny. “That’s not what I grew up seeing. It’s not about trying to identify with somebody else,” said a medical technologist working out in a DC-area gym.
Historically, research shows that self-esteem for “black girls and women has always been the highest among all groups,” says Princeton Professor Imani Perry. “It’s a powerful statement about our resilience.” A 2008 study showed women subjects images of an “ideal” tall, thin, white woman’s physique. White women felt badly about themselves afterward, but black women weren’t affected.
Black women “are just not comparing themselves to these white models,” said the researcher. Identifying with thinner role models may change as more women like Beyonce and Rihanna fill mass media images, but ideas of beauty for black women will likely tend to remain “more elastic,” enforced by “positive” phrases for larger women like “full-figured” and “healthy,” say observers.
That doesn’t mean obesity is a good thing. “We’re not saying it’s super fly to be super fat. We’ve never said that,” says New York writer Michaela Angela Davis. But, she adds, unlike in white culture, “black women are not criminalized for it.”
So what do you think, are black women TRULY happy being overweight?

BIRTH CONTROL PILLS FOR GUYS IS READY FOR TESTS

2012-02-29T07:21:00.002-08:00

The male contraceptive pill is ready for testing but will men take it? Will women believe men are taking it?
According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the male contraceptive pill may be only a decade away.
Researchers at the University of Kansas are so confident about their male contraceptive pill that they’re ready to seek FDA approval to test it on humans. So far their compound has proven safe in rats, rabbits, mice, and monkeys. “It’s 100% effective and 100% reversible,” says biologists.
The chemical compound H2-gamendazole, stops sperm from growing in the testicles.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? WILL YOU TAKE IT MEN? WILL YOU TRUST THEM “TO” TAKE IT WOMEN?

Illuminati

2011-03-17T23:39:00.000-07:00

The Illuminati (plural of Latin illuminatus, "enlightened") is a name given to several groups, both historical and modern, and both real and fictitious. Historically, the name refers specifically to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment-era secret society founded on May 1, 1776.

In modern times it is also used to refer to a purported conspiratorial organization which acts as a shadowy "power behind the throne", allegedly controlling world affairs through present day governments and corporations, usually as a modern incarnation or continuation of the Bavarian Illuminati. In this context, the Illuminati are believed to be the masterminds behind events that will lead to the establishment of a New World Order.

Honestly to me the whole "Illuminati" thing has become so ambiguous to the point that we have allowed the people who set out to try and destroy careers get to step 2 of their plan:...spread the word and put fear and doubt into the people's(being you) heart and mind.

Have you ever noticed that the people suspected of being in this "secret society", everyone know about, happens to be of the African American race? People such as Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kanye West, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James...Have you heard of any Caucasian, male or female, recently being a part of this society?

I bet alot of you did not know that the Illumanti has some memebers and I can assure you that the list does not include, to my understanding, an African American or minority for that matter. Don't believe me search the internet for yourself. Ill give you the list you can search the names and "meet the Illuminati" for yourself cause it wont be at an arena or concert.

It consist of 17 families and they are as followed:
1. Astor
2. Bundy
3. Collins
4. DuPont
5. Freeman
6. Kennedy
7. Li (Chinese)
8. Onassis
9. Rockefeller
10. Rothschild
11. Russell
12. Van Duyn
13. Merovingian (European Bloodlines)
14. Reynolds
15. Disney
16. Krupp
17. McDonald

At the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinion and interpretation and to each is own. I dont care but educate yourself before you banish someone. Especially successful people of your own race. Especially people who fear God and credit him for their success. Lets be real.

Enough is Enough pt. 1

2011-03-15T09:48:00.000-07:00

To begin I guess I should start by saying that I do not totally hate make up. I do, on the other hand, feel that most women are more beautiful without it than they give themselves credit.

When a man approaches a woman I can guarantee you he is not thinking about how flawless her make up is. Half the men in the world only know the colors of the rainbow, so how can we really appreciate your make up? The reason I say to this is to set up my point. You putting on make up is for you to feel more secure, to fit the media's standards of being "pretty" or "sexy", for that validation and attention.

Natural beauty will always be number 1 in any man's eyes. I've said it time and time again, a man is not looking for someone who face will come off on the pillow at night. He looking for someone who can look, feel and be beautiful without much effort. Drake said it best "Sweat pants, hair tied, chillin with no make up on That's when you're the prettiest I hope that you don't take it wrong". I totally agree with him 1000%.

So what was the whole point of this blog you ask? To get the word out that beauty is not defined by how much you spend on MAC and who will notice how flawless your make up is. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Once you find that man who will call you beautiful and not fine even when you at your lowest you probably will not understand it at first. But once he gets past the make up and through to you to finally get you to understand that the concealer you adding is blocking him from seeing your natural beauty, you will finally understand that you are beautiful, you always were and you always will be.

Love yourself flaws and all. And find someone who will do the same.

Up And Coming Artist

2011-03-14T17:00:00.000-07:00

Atlanta initially came to prominence in hip hop during the 90s with such groups as Kriss Kross, Another Bad Creation and TLC. In the mid 90s you seen the likes of Outkast, Kilo Ali and Goodie Mob. The more recently well known rappers of Atlanta include Ludacris, Lil Jon, T.I., Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane, D4L and Ying Yang Twins. All of which have made a name for themselves outside Georgia borders.

Atlanta rappers today are dubbed "bubble gum rappers" and are not usually known for lyrical content, only club hits, but what separates Zip Kennedy? The man has charisma, lyrics and style. So I took the time to introduce you all to this young up and coming rapper/singer/songwriter. Whatever you see him as you cant help but see his bright future.

-Name/ Facebook name/ twitter name

Zip Kennedy, @Zip_Kennedy

-D.O.B.

6/20/1992 (shoutout to all Geminis!)

-Profession/title

Rapper Singer Songwriter College Student

-Brief Biography

I'm from Decatur Georgia, schooled and raised in Stone Mountain area. currently a student at GA state. Besides music, eating( JUST ABOUT ANYTHING), kickin it with friends, watchin' retro toons, imma sneaker head and i love the arts.Networking, meeting cool ppl, and partying after a long work period is a MUST..

-when did you find out this was what you loved( your profession)? Who introduced it to you?

I've always had a love for music. Mom and Dad introduced Contemporary,Jazz, etc. and I was born into the Hip Hop era. I did band and other music related things as early as elementary school. Wasn't sure i could ever make it a profession...but hey that's my current pursuit!

-where do you wanna be in the next few years?

A college graduate and a professional hip hop/rnb artist, songwriter....hopefully dabbling into other arenas of business and entertainment.

-who inspires you?

Family, friends, everyone who supports what i do, not just in music but in life. Also any successful people who've either overcome adversity to get to where they are...or have down right worked their way to the top.

-what would you say to inspire someone who is trying to do what you do?

Make sure you do it because you love it. Nowadays everyone "does music" so you have to be at a certain peace with being somewhat of a statistic, and categorized. Another thing is everyone will have their opinion about what you do and how you do it. You have to be comfortable with your self and love every angle of your music, and the music business. If you'd do music for the rest of your life if you never blew up, got rich/famous or got the proper recognition...cool, chase the dream and no matter what happens you WIN. but if not....maybe hobby seeking is a good idea. Lol

-what would you say would be the perfect song?

Wow. maaan that's such a broad question. As a music lover first and foremost, TOO many come to mind. It would probably have to be a song with ALL of music greats. The closest thing i can think in comparison would be that "We Are The World" some of my favorite songwriters like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie. Plus it has a positive meaning behind it. How can you go wrong?

-who would you like to work for?

ultimately myself.... but for now I'm in the process of negotiating/scouting the best major label joint venture for myself, and my indy label. Flystyle Music Group. Yeeeeah, that would be IDEAL!

-Any work in progress? or work already out for everyone to check out?

Most Definitely. Hear songs, watch vids and much more on my Youtube. (youtube.com/zipkennedytv) Make sure you keep updated with my major moves by following me on twitter. I follow back http://twitter.com/#!/Zip_Kennedy Look me up n facebook everywhere. Maaaan I'm everywhere!! Just FIND ME! Mixtape "SKY REPUBLIC" will be on indy.livemixtapes.com early summer.

ART?

2011-03-12T22:52:00.001-08:00

Chris Brown has on one of the most simple outfits yet it gets the job done. Pictured here in a pair of grey wash jeans a plaid button up with a cardigan that yells Dr. Huxtable! Knowing CB I could bet you he got on some dope sneakers to set off the outfit most likely neon yellow like the book bag he has on his back.

I rate it a B+

Keri Hilson Feat. Rick Ross - The Way You Love Me (Official Video)

2010-12-05T19:29:00.000-08:00

First off if you have not seen this video or heard the song please do so. Second I would have never thought Keri Hilson would stoop this low. Honestly I am disappointed. She is too talented to make such a commercial song that demeans herself as well as women in general. We hear it all the time men say it why cant women? Do you do everything everyone else do? I think this might be one of her rare songs we wont have to worry about hearing any more.

By the way I do not like Rick Ross.

The Throne Big Enough for a King

2010-12-02T16:42:00.000-08:00

First off I am tired of all the backlash Lebron James is recieving after his decision. This decision, though not as publicized, has been made plenty of times in the NBA. Cleveland, in my opinion, is full of a bunch of immature ungrateful people. The things that he has done over and over for his city should be enough for the same city that cheered him on 7 years to continue cheering him on the rest of his career. There arent many people from Ohio who make it Pro and remain relavant and as widely publicized as Lebron. He single handedly brought Cleveland out the "dog house" and into the lime light. The way you repay him is by burning his jersey?

I guess we should have expected this seeing how he was treated as a high school athlete. If I can recall correct, the same people who accused him when he was winning and turned on him when he left are the same people who accused him and his mom of accepting gifts and trying to take him off his game. Its really beginning to get old. Can you really blame him for leaving? What if Dan Gilbert traded him? Would you burn Dan Gilbert ties or somethin? My advice to you is to grow up, find a new superstar and accept him for who he is.

WKYC, the NBC affiliate in Cleveland, hosts Dr. Scott Bea, a psychologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Bea offers advise coping mechanisms for Cavs fans tonight. "They're probably a little too attached," Bea says. "Be a regular fan about it. Go ahead and voice your disapproval if you must, but go have a full life in other areas as well."

I say Long Live The King! Dont jump on the bandwagon when they start winning either.

Top 10 MCs of the 21st Century

2010-10-29T11:22:00.000-07:00

Ok so recently I seen BET and MTVs top 10 and I was dissappointed. So I decided to drop my own top 10...

This order is how I feel it should have went based off lyrics swag and overall swag. I like all the people that made the list and there still people who didnt make it that are good but these 10 are better.

10. Wale
Though he is still new dude spit some hot shit I cant complain about him. Give him a few more mixtapes and another Album he can move up.

9.B.O.B.
Atlanta native. Sick bars. He pretty dope I just want more from B.O.B. he is one of the few Atlanta aritst I got respect for. His bars are sharp guarenteed to cut you!

8.Fabolous
Fab holdin it down for the BK. Dude has dropped some good mixtapes and albums but he flusters a little. I like his delivery but I wanna see a more dedicated work ethic drop more shit Fab

7.Nicki
Nicki Nicki Nikci smh for someone so bad her bars are sick. She droppin hits, her mixtapes are on point she doing the singin tip, she has fun with her shit. I wanna see more thru you tho Nicki show me more pain to balance that crazy out

6.Drake
This one singing ass dude man. Lol. His bars go hard for a Canadian but sometimes we want to hear more than a love song. Tell us more stories Drizzy, show an alter ego or something to switch it up. Keep the bars coming though

5.Em
Hardest white boy ever to do it. I like his lyrics they still show his pain his joy his everything. I just wish the man wouldnt go on such a long hiatus. I understand you tryna make money off other people but atleast give the fans more. Hottest single is that Love the Way You lie, he has always painted brillant pictures with his words.

4.Andre
For someone to be so cool calm and collected his raps still will knock you on your ass. Dont believe re listen to Dueces, the hardest 16 Ive heard in a minute..Just wish he would drop an album shit we been waiting for a while Mr. 3000!

3.Kanye
One of the Dopest Mc Ive had the pleasure of listening to. He is truely a perfectionist but sometimes it blocks his shine and makes it look less natural and more rehearsed. Punchlines silly he gotta put out more mixtapes though because we want more in between his albums

2.JayZ
The hardest, slick talkin 40 year old I know. This man still shows you he got alot more flow to dish out. He has consistently shown up, I dont think Ive heard a song where he has dropped the ball....

1.Lil Wayne
What can I say the man is dedicated he drops mixtapes for days, his albums sell, he has millions of followers and the people who arent following weezy are startin to catch on.

There is no reason Waka should be on a Top 10 list. TI didnt make it becuase Ive heard alot of inconsistency on his behalf. Jeezy is strictly gangsta rap but these two could have easily made the top 10 I just felt there were 10 others who were better. Tune into the game hip hop is about having fun but lyrics bring me back for more.

Tell me what you think and who you thought should be on the top 10.

360 Waves

2010-10-14T13:29:00.000-07:00

Lately the big hype has been to get dreads. But Im here to tell you that the grown and sexy thing to do is to get a dark cesear with some nice crisp waves for your woman or business professionals to look at and not think your a criminal! Lol...

Here is my hardwork and dedication. I put in a good 3 weeks of not getting a haircut and sticking to my strict schedule of brushing for 15 minutes at night and randomly throughout the day. But I also have a few secrets....1) Im mixed so I do have good hair 2) I used wave grease to make the waves deeper. I am not saying that you can not have waves if your not mixed Im just saying that I had an advantage and it may take you longer than 3 weeks to get to this point. So lets get to what you came here for...the "how to." Women can also follow this if you have short hair..

1) Purchase a good double sided brush with a hard side and a soft side. Make sure you use both sides when you brush your hair.

2) purchase a wave grease and du rag. I use Murrays but thats a personal choice, you can use what you want. I have the lite and regular kind and ill discuss why later...

3) When you are ready to begin it is best to get a fresh cut prefebly a low cut so you can start from the beginning sort to speak.

4) When you get in the shower or when you are ready to go to bed get a rag and soak in the hottest water you can take.

5) Apply the hot rag to your head then rub the Murrays, or whatever you are using, into your head...But here the thing, you have to rub it in your head the way you want your waves to go.

For example I rub the sides down the back down and the top forward.

6) Brush your hair for 15-30 minutes or however long you can in the same direction you applied the grease.

*It is important to always brush and apply the grease in the same direction, results will show faster.

7) In a week you should see small ripples showing but dont get too excited or lazy cause they will disappear. So for 3 weeks continue the steps.

8) At the end of the 3 weeks or however long you are willing to go without a haircut your waves should be deep enough to get a cut.

9) Tell your barber to cut the way you brush your hair and enjoy the fruits of your loom...(no homo) lol

*for a deeper, slick/shiny look use the regular at night and lite in the morning!*

This Cant be Life

2010-09-20T19:43:00.000-07:00

In a time and day where pop culture rules our everyday life, have we really forgot what life really is? Many of our peers and we ourselves are living lies. I love the lyrics to Jay-Z song "This Cant Be Life". His song enumerates everything I think about daily, the hook alone puts me into deep thought. "This cant be life This cant be love This cant be right There's gotta be more This cant be life..." I look at the struggles and obstacles I'm faced with and it creates that motivation I need to push me to want everything even more. I want everything life has to offer. I'm from Brooklyn, New York, my family is a decent size and I feel blessed to know I have one foot out the trap we, as in minorities, are set up to get caught in. I have four uncles who have been to jail and an aunt blind from abusing drugs and we all fighting to stay above water per say. Bills stacking, over due notices, shit that can drag your morale down and cause depression but the constant vision of success, the sweet taste of defeating all odds is what keeps me fighting its what keeps me saying "This cant be life This cant be love This cant be right There's gotta be more This cant be life..." I know life is going to get better and if you reading this then you should know your life will too. God wont put more on you than you can handle. Trust him and always remember things happen for a reason. Believe what God is doing in your life is for your best interest.

Fast Track

2010-07-20T09:55:00.001-07:00

You hear it all the time whether it be from real people or fakes "I didn't choose this life this life chose me". This quote has probably been said trillions of times and its true but do you really have a choice? A lot of people feel that they can take on the world without a plan and a sense of direction. Me I believe I was born to do it and I'm not just saying this cause I'm cocky or nothing but I am confident. I fear no man, I never have I never will. I also do not fear making mistakes. This is where people make the wrong turn. Because you fear making a mistake or failing you avoid the things you need to prepare you to take on the world. Walk by faith, not by sight. Has God not shown you thus far that you wont see him but he will come thru for you more than any tangible person you see in front of you? If its one thing Ive learned from making mistakes its that NOTHING IS TOO BIG for God to take care of. Make mistakes have dreams and work for them. If you want things to happen when you want them to without a struggle you might as well hang that up. It don't work like that, if your not ready for it you wont get it. That don't mean you wont ever get it, pray that god helps you gain maturity, wisdom and understanding so that you may appreciate the things he will bless you with. Pray that the things you want wont hurt anyone in the process or jeopardize anything they have going for them. Everything is already written and ready for you to be, have and do its just a matter of you being ready for it. If you haven't learned anything from this blog I want you to know that anything worth having is worth fighting for. Now before you go out and rob, shoot, kill, beat someone up or any mixture of the before mentioned let me clarify this. If you want a promotion at a job fighting with your co workers and guest will not put you in a management position anywhere period. If I'm looking to promote someone I'm looking for someone who will fight the temptations to do bad or someone who is fighting to keep their pride and integrity and still make my place of business look respectable without undermining their morals. If you don't have a job I'm looking for someone who will fight to keep their image and how they present themselves as close to their natural personality as possible, not someone who is fighting to be someone they are not. Even if you don't get everything you set out to get someone from the sidelines will admire your dedication and will probably love/respect you for it. The feeling alone should be reward enough to keep you doing the same thing in the future. A little food for thought before I leave you: When you are running on a track the end may seem to never come because it is a circle it isn't until another man puts obstacles for you to hurdle that you see how hard running is but in this race you have the option to pass the baton to your partner or sprint thru the finish line. Just know even when you brake the red tape the track continues. Never stop chasing your dreams they never stop running from you.
