Google Plus or Face Book?

Recently the Big brother of the internet (Google) unveils its new social network Plus. There has been many discussions and argues formed whether Google plus is better than the good old social network Face Book. Me too joined Plus from an invitation of my friend. I have been using Face Book and Twitter for nearly 3 years now. I found Plus really competitive and stable than Face Book. This doesn’t mean that I have not been among the Face Book addicted web junkies out there. But I found Face Book quite unsecure space on the internet not only because Google search list “How to hack Face Book ?” first when we type only “How to…” on its search bar.

Lot of my friends Face Book accounts were hacked throughout these years. Fortunately I couldn’t be a victim yet. :D

And as we all know the stupid applications on Face Book cause serious privacy breach since they could access all our data on Face Book. I never found any of those applications cool, I don’t know why my friends like stupid apps such as Farm Ville, I hate when they send me app requests. :P

I find much more control over the things I share with people on Plus, since we can add the people to share with right at the bottom of status update bar. It’s kind of cool. We don’t need to create specific groups as in Face Book, instead we can create Circles on our own adding people into them. So that we can share anything with only the people we want, not with all in our friend lists.

And Plus provides https:// connectivity in order of http://, which enables encrypted communication. Though it’s really hard to get away from Face Book I prefer choosing Plus over Face Book cause I find Plus much cooler and flexible.

How Plus differs from Face Book: Fun

Still Plus is on its Trial version, I believe it’ll rise and shine more when it launches officially.

Plus also provides Sparks: where we can chat with things we like, with anyone over the internet who likes the same. Which is like Trends on Twitter.

Hangouts: where we can have group video chat which is kind of cool, while Face Book comes up with video chat with the help of Skype after long talks. :) Google has a good album management feature called Picasa , Since Plus using it the photo management will be much better than in Face Book.

There are so many reasons why Plus is better than Face Book.

Since some people still cannot get their ass off Face Book cause of it’s stupid time wasting games and Blue theme he will be fooling them for some time. For now he is the most followed person on Google Plus. :)

Some people cannot stand for the simple and serene White theme of Plus. May be Google might change its theme on the launch or not.

Face Book fans try Lame Book too, It’s kinda funny. :)

If you are a person who doesn’t like social networking, but still like to be in touch with your nerds, Plus will be the best. Lot of my geeky friends who deactivated their Face Book accounts has joined Plus. It’s your choice after all.

There has been trouble signing up since it’s on Trial version. But now the invitation link is almost permanent.

Wanna try Plus? Get your invitation from a friend who is using Plus or keep you posted until launch via gmail.

Look how Hitler worries for not getting Plus invitation. :)

How to join part files in linux and windows.

Hi guys, after long time thought of compiling a post about something we all need in our day to day life.

Most of my friends ask me every time how to join movie part files. So I thought summing that up will be useful for those who need guidance.

Many movie download sites, forums now upload movies as part files. Since it's easy to upload smaller size parts than larger files. Not only movies, some softwares and games too come in part files. Since I prefer direct download than torrents I dedicate this to all my direct download fans out there.

There are many video formats exist on line as mkv, mp4, avi, rmvb..etc. I prefer mkv much since it supports small size and high quality.

Part files can be found as .001-00* or part1.rar-part*.rar format.

ex-

avatar.mkv.001.....004

avatar.avi.001....004

avatar.part1.rar....part4.rar

these files can be split to many number of parts, not only 4. :)

In windows

If it's a rar file you can use WinRAR

or 7-Zip to join them.

If it's a .001 file you can use HJ-Split to join them.

make sure all your part files exist in the same folder.

In linux

If it's a rar file you can simply wright click and choose “extract to”. Then it will extract them into a single file.

Or you can use 7-Zip to join them.

If it's a .001 file -

if you are a command line addict you can use your terminal to join them. :)

ex-

cat avatar.mkv.00* > avatar.mkv

you can install lx-split (a command line tool) to join files.

or if you like GUI much then you can install HJ-Split for linux.

make sure all your part files exist in the same folder.

sun in to oracle

Ok guys I am back in the new year. This is gonna be a tough year for me with my uni last year studies.
Recently I got the news of purchasing sun Microsystems by Oracle.
And I checked the sun official site today. whoa...
it takes me to oracle official site. well no harm done yet for java.
since java development base is still there, but under oracle.

In the eye of SUN lovers (most of java lovers) might be desperate of the sudden change.
Oracle says that they completed the acquisition of sun Microsystems.

I wish that oracle will continue the java development carried by sun, like NetBeans and virtualBox .

How to install sinhala input scheme in Linux

Sayura Sinhala Input Scheme

you need internet connection to download the package files.
First load a terminal and input these codes step by step as follows.

*You must be the root to run these codes.
(In linux terminal type “sudo su” to open the root shell. And input your root password.)

1. echo deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/skhome/sayura-test-kse/ubuntu jaunty main > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sayura.list

2. apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys AAC62EDA

3. apt-get update

4. apt-get install scim /apt-get install scim-sayura

5. apt-get install ttf-sinhala-lklug scim scim-gtk2-immodule im-switch scim-m17n m17n-db m17n-contrib language-pack-si-base

6. then exit from root shell (or you can open a new terminal for step 7 )

type “ exit “ or hit “Ctrl+D”

7. type below code-

im-switch -z all_ALL -s scim-immodule

if the Unicodes installed successfully there should be no errors.

8. Then you should log out and log in.

then hit “Alt+f2” in your desktop to load Run application and type “scim-config-agent” and hit Run.

there you can configure the languages you need to use,
there are hundreds of languages. Select sinhala only if you want to use it.
Untick the rest of languages.

Then you are good to go.
You can jump between languages using “Ctrl+space_bar”.

*if the language wont change when hit “Ctrl+space_bar” run

im-switch -z all_ALL -s scim-immodule

again in the terminal and try loging out and log in .

Enjoy with Sinhala fonts. Be a proud sinhalese in Cyber space.

hola geeks,

yes, after long time. had been quite busy with ma under grad studies. had updated my wordpress blog.
i thought of converting this blog dimension into technology and communications rather than just entertainment stuff. hope you guys will like it. let me know what you guys think of it.
well it doesn’t mean that I'm gonna stop posting music and fun stuff at all.. ;)

Entertainment is what we really needs besides our carrier perspectives. In the sense of a geek culture we don’t need to stick only for geek stuff..

I really like to have fun when I am free from my studies…like listen to music, play games, chat with friends…..etc.

Yes, it’s been quite hard updating two blogs since I am busy with ma studies. But I’ll never give up, neither fed up of blogging..
