The End of an Era: Saying Goodbye to the Blog

I started this blog in June 2012. At the time, I was deep in the "mommy blog" era, with kids at home and plenty of stories to tell. It was a lot of fun. The traffic was strong, conversations happened regularly in the comments, and many of you became familiar names I looked forward to hearing from (still do!).

Some of you are still here all these years later (thank you!). Others became real-life friends beyond the screen, which became an unexpected joy.

As often happens though, life changed. The kids grew up. Sharing personal details online began to feel different, and eventually the blog slowed down. Even so, it had been part of my life for so long that I couldn't quite imagine letting it go completely.

Yesterday, I received the renewal notice for my domain name and decided not to renew it. Before the blog shuts down, I wanted to say thank you very much to everyone who traveled with me on this journey, you have always been amazing, and I have always appreciated you.

Going in, I knew it would be emotional. It is a faith-based documentary centered on healing. What I didn’t expect though, was how grounded and relatable it would feel. It doesn’t over-dramatize or try to force a reaction. Instead, it quietly explores something a lot of people carry but don’t always have language for, which is the impact trauma can have on us, and how we all carry it differently.

As I mentioned in the previous post, this film doesn’t stay rooted in hurt or blame. Instead, there’s a clear shift toward healing, framed through faith and the idea of God as a constant, present Father. At its core, the film keeps returning to one central idea: your identity isn’t defined by what was missing or broken, it’s shaped by something deeper and more stable.

Overall, He Calls Me Daughter feels less like a traditional documentary and more like a series of honest conversations. It’s the kind of film that doesn’t demand a big reaction while you’re watching but gives you a lot to think about afterward.

First Impressions of the Purifighter Countertop Water Purifier

Clean drinking water is something most of us take for granted...until we start thinking about what might actually be in our tap water. Recently, I was sent a countertop purifier from Purifighter to test out, and after using it for a bit, I have to say I’m genuinely impressed.

Setup: A Little Patience Required

The setup process does take a little patience at first. Before the water is ready to drink, the machine needs to run through four to five purification cycles to flush and prepare the system. Altogether, this took about 30–45 minutes.

While it might feel like a bit of a wait initially, it’s really just a one-time process to get everything ready. Once those first cycles are done, the purifier is good to go.

It was a work night. I was going to bed. I snuggled under the covers, though still sitting up and turned on the movie just to get 'a feel for it,' as I'd planned on watching it the very next day. As some of you might accurately predict, I ended up watching the whole thing, and was very, very tired the next day. It was worth it.

Some films entertain. Others educate. And then there are films like Still Hope, a story that will sit with you long after the credits roll, asking you to reflect, to listen, and to care more deeply about the world around you.

Still Hope, coming to theaters February 5, is a powerful and sobering film inspired by true stories of human trafficking survivors. It approaches a difficult subject with both honesty and compassion, reminding viewers that freedom is not the end of the story, recovery and the life after are the true winners.

A Story Rooted in Reality

The film follows Hope, a teenager from a close-knit community whose life takes a devastating turn when someone she believes to be a new friend proves unsafe. Every parent's nightmare unfolds as Hope's family learns she has been talking to someone who was not who they appeared to be. Taken from everything familiar, Hope is forced into sex trafficking, drugged on the regular, and stripped of her identity, autonomy, and sense of self.

While the events of her captivity are harrowing, Still Hope does not stop at survival. Instead, it focuses on what happens after freedom, which is an often overlooked but deeply complex journey worth viewing. Hope’s story highlights the emotional, psychological, and relational challenges survivors face as they begin to rebuild their lives. Viewers feel her hurt (and her family's) and long for her to find that place where she can put the past behind her and be able to embrace her beautiful new future.

Inspired by real experiences, the film offers a rare and important perspective: recovery is not linear, and healing takes time, support, and extraordinary courage.

Raising Awareness With Purpose

Human trafficking is a global issue that often hides in plain sight. Every time I go to the airport, an announcement comes on a few times an hour warning people to look out for human trafficking dangers. I'm assuming the announcement is airing for a reason. 😪 Still Hope brings awareness to this reality without sensationalizing it, emphasizing the humanity of those affected rather than reducing them to statistics.

A portion of the film’s ticket proceeds will benefit organizations that care for victims of trafficking, extending the impact beyond the screen and into real-world support. By choosing to see Still Hope, audiences are not only engaging with an important story, they are helping amplify hope and contribute to meaningful action.

Are you thinking about starting a courier business because the idea of being on the road all day actually sounds alright? Maybe you like driving, maybe you’re bored of your current job, or maybe you’ve just noticed how busy delivery vans seem to be and thought there must be money in it. You’re not wrong, but before you dive in, it helps to know what the reality looks like so there are no surprises later on.

The Day to Day

Courier work is simple, but it’s full on. You’ll be driving a lot, often starting early and sometimes finishing later than planned. Traffic will slow you down, addresses won’t always make sense, and plans will change at the last minute. If you like keeping busy and don’t mind your days looking different every time, that can actually be a good thing. If you prefer quiet days and knowing exactly how things will go, it can get frustrating fast.

The Setup

Getting started isn’t complicated, but it does need doing properly. You’ll need a vehicle that suits the type of work you want to do, not just whatever is cheapest. Insurance is a big one too, because normal car insurance won’t cover courier work. You’ll also need to decide how you’re setting the business up and get that sorted early. It’s boring, but it matters. If you leave it vague or put it off, it usually comes back to bite you once money starts moving around and you’re trying to keep up with work at the same time.

Organisation

Once you’re doing more than a few deliveries a day, things can get messy if you’re not paying attention. Missed drops and late updates cause problems fast. Even small courier setups need some way to keep track of routes and jobs so nothing gets forgotten. Some businesses use Amazon DSP management software when they’re dealing with bigger delivery contracts, mainly because it keeps everything in one place. You don’t need anything fancy, but you do need a system that works for you.

Work

At the start, work can be hit and miss. You might have busy days followed by quiet ones and that’s normal. Some people go through delivery networks, others knock on doors and speak to local businesses. Local work often sticks if you’re reliable. Turn up, do what you said you’d do, and don’t mess people about. That’s usually enough to keep work coming back.

Money

The money side can look good until you actually add everything up. Fuel, repairs, insurance, and tax all come out of what you earn. If you don’t keep an eye on it, you can stay busy while not really making much. Knowing your numbers early helps you avoid that and makes it easier to spot which jobs are worth your time.

Later on

Some people are happy running one van and keeping life simple. Others want to grow and take on more work and more drivers. There’s no right answer. It depends on how much responsibility you want and how much time you want back. A courier business can work well if you build it in a way that suits you, not someone else.

It’s Halloween, and that means two of my favorite things collide, costumes and family time! My oldest granddaughter is coming to town, and since she loves board games, I’ve been saving a special one for us to play tonight: Costume Party Detective.

This game is everything I love about Halloween rolled into one: mystery, laughter, disguises, and just the right amount of mischief.

Welcome to the costume party!

Everyone shows up in disguise, dressed in their best spooky or silly attire. But here’s the twist: one of you is the detective, and no one knows who! The challenge? Try to figure out who’s who without giving yourself away.

The rules are simple:

Roll the die to move from room to room on the gameboard.

Reveal or eliminate characters when you share a space with them.

Stay in disguise, the last player left “at the party” wins!

When the Sun Sets on a Favorite: Byredo's Sundazed has Been Discontinued

There are perfumes that demand attention and then there are the quiet ones that simply make you feel good. Sundazed by Byredo has always been one of those easy, happy scents that feels like an instant mood lift. The name couldn’t be more fitting; it really does smell like a citrusy, sweet sun daze.

To me, this fragrance opens in perfect balance, equal parts citrus and spun sugar. The first spritz is bright and sunny, with lemon and mandarin that sparkle without being sharp. But just when you expect the usual fade into something floral or green, there’s a gentle shift. A soft sweetness rolls in, light and airy, like the smell of cotton candy you might catch in the breeze while you're walking along at a summer fair. It’s the sugar note that makes Sundazed stand out to me. It’s not heavy or cloying, just soft and happy.

Neroli and Jasmine Sambac bloom quietly in the mid, giving it that familiar, sun-warmed floral feel without tipping into perfume-counter territory (not that there's anything wrong with perfume counters, but it does have a distinct, everywhere kind of smell and this fragrance definitely does not). Everything in this perfume stays translucent, blending together nicely. Nothing about it shouts.

Wearing Sundazed feels kind of like a day with no plans. It’s not trying to be mysterious or serious; it’s just cheerful in a relaxed, unbothered way. I like that...

Since its release, Sundazed has had a loyal following, and it’s easy to see why. It’s genderless, effortlessly wearable, and somehow manages to feel both nostalgic and modern. Which makes it all the more disappointing that it’s been discontinued. I’ve loved it for a long time, but I didn’t own it, so when I heard the news, I immediately went searching for, and thankfully found a bottle before they disappear completely.

I’m happy I found it. It’s one of those scents that proves happiness doesn’t need to be complicated, sometimes it really just as simple as sunlight, sugar, and a good mood.
