The brain of the computer is represented by a quad-core Intel processor, with a frequency of 3.5 GHz and 8MB cache buffer, with up to 32 GB RAM.

The graphics processor is a 3D NVIDIA Q4000M Graphics with dual graphics, while at the memory we have a 2TB hard drive with a 300 GB SSD. At the connectivity, we have 2 USB 3.0 ports, 9 USB 2.0, 1 IEEE 1394a, Mic, Headphone, 6-in-1 Media Card Reader, RJ-45 Gb-LAN, Line-In, Line-Out, Display Port In/Out, SPDIF.

The device is equipped with a Blu-ray Writer Slot – Load, a 1080p HD front facing camera, WLAN and Bluetooth. This brand new HP is set to be the Apple iMac competitor, a Windows/Linux based one. Even if from the spec point of view it may have a slight advantage, the iMac based users will, most likely remain loyal to Apple, while HP wants to attract new clients from the Windows users.

The device will be available in April, with a starting price of 1899$.

As the company already started to send invitations to the event, one can only assume that the Huawei booth at the fair will be quite visited after such an enticing call “Huawei Device takes a leap into the future of mobile communications to unveil their fastest smartphone yet,” reads the invitation.  That was only the starting signal for the analysts and tech reporters to make predictions about the mysterious device.

Undoubtedly, the hot smartphone will be the first of the Diamond series that the company officials announced also adding that the series will be a high end line up of smartphones, worthy of their name. He said that the new smartphone will be called “Ascend D1 Q.” The previous Ascend, P1 S made its debut at the other event that capture the interest of the tech world, Consumers Electronics Show that took place in January in Las Vegas. If we take into consideration that Motorola will soon release Ice Cream Sandwich superphones that will sport Intel processors, one can tell that 2012 will be an awesome year for tech products.

It is expected, that Motorola will be showcasing this new Intel processor device at the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona this very month. The handset will enjoy a new and refreshed version of the MotoBlur user interface.

If you listen to the rumors spread by PocketNow, the camera on the upcoming device will sport a major improvement over what was previously delivered on the Droid devices. The camera is expected to be instant-on and be able to shoot 15 frames per second. The handset appears to have no buttons, like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, meaning that all actions will rely on software navigation buttons that are incorporated by Android 4.0.

Back at the CES 2012, we managed to witness the Lenovo K800 smartphone in all of its glory with an Intel Medfield 1.6 GHz processor, which will probably be the same option for Motorola. BlackBerry 10 OS First Pictures Appear

By looking at the leaked shots we can get a pretty good idea of how the homescreen is going to look like, including its icons, widgets, inbox and in-call screen. Yeah, sure, the widgets look like some sort of cross between Android and Windows Phone tiles, but they sure look interesting and easily usable. Which is all we’re interested in.

BlackBerry 10 OS with Nice Looks

The menu screen resembles a lot the PlayBook OS 2.0. It even sports similar implementation of folders, with 4 random app icons visible on top. The pictures icon does look refurbished, with a random image from the albums visible as the cover art of the icon. What is very exciting is that you can spot a Cut the Rope application icon in the menu list, which surely suggests that the hugely popular game shall be available on Blackberry 10 right from launch.

Apparently the new OS will be sporting a more refined call screen, giving users easy touch-based access to important features and functionality when within a call, such as activating speakerphone, muting a call, adding another caller to the call, or activating the keypad. There’s also a more intuitive way of how folders are displayed within BlackBerry 10 OS. Now, like on iOS, Folders are dynamic and will show the content of the apps or shortcuts contained within them.

BlackBerry 10 OS is going to represent a major revolution for RIM, much like Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was for Google. The platform is an attempt to merge the smartphone OS and the tablet OS, RIM uses on the BlackBerry PlayBook OS. By doing so, RIM will bring multitasking, multimedia and processor-intensive applications to the smartphone table.

E-volo Multicopter Two-Seater Version Available

The e-volo multicopter has been designed as a personal transport vehicle. It can be controlled by a joystick and is powered by sixteen propellers to hover in the air. The team of scientists who build it – physicist Thomas Senkel, programmer Stephan Wolf and designer Philipp Halisch as well Alexander Zosel – have successfully tested the prototype, which they imagine will hold recreational value to all interested parties. They also hinted towards the possibility of using the device for taking aerial photography or short-distance travel. Who hasn’t dreamt of flying?

Just Pray It's not Too Windy

The device is controlled by an onboard computer which can adjust altitude and directional control. The designers also consider that the machine can be integrated with GPS or obstacle sensitive sensors. Each of the vehicle’s sixteen motors uses an independently controlled battery.

The craft seems also to be energy-efficient, with one hour of flight amounting to 6 Euros worth of electricity. At the moment e-volo only sustains flights up to 20 minutes, but soon by integrating a hybrid gas system or by increasing the capacity of battery, the total amount of flying could be augmented to one hour.

iPad 3 to Be Launched on March 7?

Now another “reliable” source has stepped out with another piece of “reliable” information – the Apple worshiping blog iMore, who this week claimed that the compulsive obsession most of us seem to suffering from, is going to be announced in a few weeks. They even claimed a precise date – March 7. Apparently this news resonates with another report made by All Things D that also announced the iPad was scheduled for disclosure during the first week of March.

Further evidence back up this new claim. Apparently, Apple likes to host big product launches on Wednesdays for some reason (someone is superstitions apparently). At the same time comes a report from box retailer Meijer is offering huge discounts of for the iPad 2.
The next generation iPad is expected to sport an incredibly 2,048 x 1,536 pixel Retina display, quad-core A6 processor; an improved camera and a LTE chip. The third-generation device, which is also expected to feature a quad-core A6 processor and maybe even LTE connectivity.

Apple to Ditch or Continue its Launch Strategy?

Apple will continue to compete with new tablets from Samsung, MotoGoogle and Amazon’s 7-inch Kindle Fire, though with its 10-inch Retina display, ‘compete’ might not even be a valid option. If we take into account that iPad 2 has been announced on March 2 and iPad was put up for sale in April, it makes sense for iPad 3 to be launched in the same time frame. But, in the same time, Apple could garner profits from the ever growing rumors and postpone its launch to a few months more, just like it did with iPhone 4S. And, maybe instead of iPad 3 we’ll see a smaller iPad, who knows? After all, having a strong release date strategy isn’t actually that good because your competition gets to know your moves better. I think they will not release iPad 3 in march, but let’s see.

Now, Google is releasing an updated version of its YouTube app for Google TV, which the search behemoth says will make it easier for viewers to find videos and channels to watch on their big-screen TVs. What’s easy has become child like.

The app is available on Google’s Android Market store, and according to Google’s blog post on 12 February, the update was due to roll out at some point during the next few days. One of the new features is called Discover and what you can do with it is surf YouTube via different categories of video. Choose between Comedy, Gaming, Science & Education or Sports. Users can use the new channel feat in order to quickly gain access to new channel or just navigate through user existing channels and playlists.

And if you happen to get all excited about a particular user’s channel there’s a menu overlay that lets you directly and instantly access content from the same users. You can also like or dislike the content (or give the thumbs up).

Last year, Google updated its TV service to Android 3.2 or Honeycomb which is the last milestone before Google powers up Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich. Also in 2011, YouTube announced extending its services promising something neat for everybody, regardless of the fact you’re a mom, a comedy fan, a sport freak, a music lover or a trend follower.

The United States government recently reached to the same conclusion, that all the public significant movements could be predicted with accuracy if analysts are to watch closely the trends from social platforms. In order to reach to significant results, the US federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies are looking for digital tools to scan content from social media to detect any potential threats. According not only to research studies but also to common sense and experience, the social networks became the most effective way to announce a crisis situation, to organize large groups and to look for adepts for a wide range of causes. “Social media is rivaling 911 services in crisis response and reporting,” said one FBI official.

Consequently, FBI, the Department of Defence and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence turned to private sector in the search for software capable to scan the massive content for any potential terrorist attacks or social uprising, not only in the US, but also worldwide.

The plan is obviously raising many questions on privacy, when the government starts monitoring the free speech. According to the state, the legal scanning of conversations could have a preventing effect.

 ”Any time that you have to worry about the federal government following you around peering over your shoulder listening to what you’re saying, it’s going to affect the way you speak and the way that you act,”

explained Ginger McCall, director of the open government project at the Washington. According to a FBI declaration to The Associated Press, the monitoring will not focus on groups or individuals, but rather on tracking specific words associated with criminal activity.

Who are Anonymous?

Anonymous concept, used as a mass noun, represents a community of offline and mainly online people with somewhat anarchic tendencies who described themselves “a globalised digitized brain”. Needless to say, the group is focused on members with blurred identities who take various actions, many times well-coordinated, against specific targets, people or organizations. “We [Anonymous] just happen to be a group of people on the internet who need — just kind of outlet to do as we wish, that we wouldn’t be able to do in regular society. …That’s more or less the point of it. Do as you wish. … There’s a common phrase: we are doing it for the lulz,” reveals Trent Peacock a journalist who studied the phenomenon and stumbled upon many of the group’s manifestos.

Anonymous: The Beginning

Apparently, Anonymous group has a history of almost a decade, first mentioned in 2003, on the imageboard (forum) 4chan, originating in Japan. 4channers used anonymity to unleash their creativity in a place of absolute freedom.

“A place where there were no roles, no topic, and more importantly no identity. Texts and photos without any acknowledged authorship, were the only control was the based on the enjoiment the content brought”,

as one Anonymous member details the group’s history in a YouTube video. This rule of the natural selection of valuable content, voted by the secret members evolved into an “ecosystem of thought”. This sounds warm and fuzzy but the truth is that at the beginning the group members spend their time with practical jokes.

The Vendetta Hackers of Our Days

In the early years, the group was more focused on entertainment. Many actions of the young members were pranks like sending pizza to the victim’s house, or prank calls, including bomb threats that later proved to be fake,  to people or organizations. A more serious side of the Anonymous actions involved hacking emails and publishing the personal data. Many websites attacked by Anonymous members were forced to display Denial of Service message or the hackers defaced the homepage and displayed their own gloating messages.

When they targeted people, Anonymous members, called anons, managed to hack email accounts, computers and they later published online embarrassing information pictures or messages about their victims. Sometimes anons attacked random people just to show off their skills.

Anonymous: Membership and Leaders

Most of the declarations from Anonymous members point out that everyone can be a member and probably is. There are no rules about applying to the group and everyone is welcomed to bring his or her contribution to the cause.

“We have no leaders or followers. We are a collection of individuals who move together for a common cause. Your parents are Anonymous. Your brothers and sisters and friends are Anonymous. Doctors, students, priests, atheists, and stay-at-home mothers are Anonymous. Everyone who wishes to protect freedom and destroy oppression is Anonymous,”

says one credo published online.

Apparently, a small fraction of Anonymous are hackers or have a solid computer skills. The majority of the anons are regular Internet users who join one cause or another according to their convictions. The number of anons could not be predicted.

Is It?

When it comes to leadership, probably every Anonymous member would smile at the idea. Some even did, as a recent Anonymous elaborated prank was designed to discourage any question about this matter. A few anons published a fake FBI psychological profile of Anonymous leadership. Although the official spokesperson of the federal agency denied the document and exposed the forgery, many media reported it as a breaking news.

Many times Anonymous act as a very well-coordinated group with very well designed and elaborate actions, despite their apparent lack of organization. For sociologists, the group could be a very exciting way to prove the effectiveness of the perfect democracy. Every member can potentially unleash the force of thousands and lead an operation and still remain a faceless individual in the crowd. When somebody uncovers a fact, an action, a person or an organization believed to be unjust and to breach some rights he or she can raise awareness of other members.

Inside Communication

Anons talk among themselves on designated channels and brainstorm for ideas. Anonymous use 4chan, imageboards, dedicated forums and wikis, irc networks. Currently, there are powerful Anonymous communities on Twiter and Facebook, but anons are active on many social networks. Some situations fail to raise interest while others manage to catch the eye of others. The launch of an operation depends on the number of people who are convinced about the idea and agree with the course of action. No one can approve or reject ideas or plans, the only available options are support or ignore.

Some operations involve a small number of anons, such as the high-profile attack against HBGary that involved only six members. Others are more complex and as the cause affects more people, more anons get involved. Operation Tunisia, for instance, had the support of several hundred Anonymous members. Anons are usually faking and masking their IP addresses in order to remain undetected.

However, many people could be part of Anonymous plans without even knowing it. Cyber attacks against websites meant to cause DDoS (distributed denial of services) involve a large number of computers targeting websites that cannot handle massive traffic. For such attacks anons infest computers with viruses, Trojans or all sorts of malware and those devices spread the malicious codes and expand the zombie computer army.  Hundred or thousands of computers are programmed to  take the target without the owner’s knowledge.

 Anonymous: Their Targets

After the early days when hacking was just a fun way to gloat about their computer skills, members of Anonymous managed to channel their force and efforts to make significant points and fight for moral cause. They employed illegal methods to fight  a cyber war against injustice.  In 2006 and 2007 people who announced their affiliation to the Anonymous group, attacked websites of the companies accused of inappropriate public behavior (such as Habbo raids) or public figures who had inappropriate public messages (like Hal Turner who’s website was taken down).

One of the first targets of Anonymous group was in 2007 Chris Forcand, one vicious Internet predator. Chris Forcand preyed on kids chatting online luring them for sexual acts but Anonymous members stopped him. They caught him by either posing as children or collecting evidence either by obtaining conclusive materials and reported him to the authorities. At the time the media reported that the arrest was due to a “self-described Internet vigilante group called Anonymous”.

Other moral cause that fired up Anonymous collective conscience was the freedom in all its aspects, but most frequently they fought for the freedom of speech using their particular methods, of course. For instance, Anonymous exposed information about police force involved in arresting protestants from Occupy Wall Street.

The latest Anonymous cause well accepted by the members is the fight for Internet freedom and consequently, against SOPA, PIPA and ACTA. Also, after the Megaupload founders were arrested and deported in US, Anonymous took on the websites of US high profile agencies and private companies, perceived as the main culprits such as Justice Department, the FBI, Universal Music Group, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and Broadcast Music, Inc.

Anonymous, as a voluntary association of faceless people who pushed the Internet activism to a new stage of development, needed a set of distinguishing signs to act as a powerful call to arms and to help members recognize themselves and also to allow outsiders to track the community’s actions.

Anonymous, Robin Hoods of Our Days

While online, Anonymous’ well-known appearances display the flag with an easy to interpret symbolism. The “suit without a head” representing the organization without leaders has a background depicting the globe, which easily lets everyone know about the world spread power.

When the supporters of Anonymous go offline and organize public protests, they also need to express the adherence to Anonymous credo.  In this case, Anonymous supporters wear the Guy Fawkes (a British outlaw from the 17th century who protested against authority) mask with the notorious with moustache and pointed beard made famous by the film “V for Vendetta.”

Anonymous Operations

The most notorious operations involving Anonymous cover the last five years and the online media detailed more than 50 high profile actions . Last year was the most full of events with 24 elaborate cyber wars against governs, agencies or large companies, during operations like Arab Spring Activities, Operation Sony, Spanish Police, Supporting 2011 Indian Anti-corruption movement in cyber space, Operation Facebook, Support of Occupy Wall Street, Operation Syria, Operation DarkNet, Operation Blackout, to name just a few.

2008 Project Chanology

What triggered the group’s fury was an inadequate decision of Church of Scientology to issue a copyright violation against YouTube for a Tom Cruise interview uploaded on the video website. This attempt to enforce censorship started the Anonymous first high profile attack “Project Chanology”, specifically directed against a powerful organization, the Church of Scientology.

Fighting under the motto “Knowledge is free,” the group posted one of the first public messages. Titled “Message to Scientology,” this message is still online and gathered so far almost 5 million views. In addition, the members of the project started a series of denial-of-service attacks against Scientology websites, prank calls, and black faxes to Scientology centers.

2009 Iranian Green Movement

After Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared President following rigged elections, thousands of Iranians started demonstrations. Anonymous together with The Pirate Bay, the notorious torrent sharing site, and Iranian hackers launched the Iranian Green Movement, which offered a support website that turned into a platform allowing protesters to communicate and to send their message to the world, despite government’s attempts to enforce censorship. The site providing resource and support for Iranian protesters gathered over 22.000 supporters.

2010 Operation Zimbabwe

Anonymous attacked the government’s websites after the Zimbabwean authorities tried to censorship the information about corruption posted on WikiLeaks. Although this seems a small scale operation, the event proves the wide spread of Anonymous ideas and actions and membership.

2011 Arab Spring Activities: Operation Egypt, Operation Tunisia

Anonymous members attacked eight websites of Tunisian government. The DDoS attacks on Tunisian websites were heavily supported by the local hackers and started a massive internet activism against the government. As a response, the Tunisian authorities made the government websites inaccessible for international  netizens and in addition the Tunisian online activists and bloggers  were arrested.

A similar set of actions led Anonymous members to take down Egyptian websites as well as the official website of the ruling National Democratic Party. All the hacked websites remained unavailable until president Hosni Mubarak resigned his office. Anonymous also released personal information including names and passwords of the email addresses of Middle Eastern governmental officials. Countries targeted included officials from Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco.

2011 Operation Darknet

Last year, Anonymous members remained true to their dedication to fight against child pornography and took down over 40 websites that activated in this area, in a set of actions named Operation Darknet. At the time, it was obvious that no average investigator could fight this battle as many of the targeted websites used advanced and sophisticated methods to protect their servers and their users. Anonymous was successful and 1,500 people suspected of child pornography were revealed to the public and Interpol and FBI were invited to begin investigations.

This year, Anonymous launched a series of similar attacks against government agencies and the main cause worth of the community’s rage is the various legislations that threaten Internet freedom, such as SOPA, PIPA or ACTA. Also, the fight against corrupt governments continues. Since the beginning of the year Anonymous was involved in operations like Occupy Nigeria, Operation Megaupload, The Polish Revolution and other anti-ACTA activism in Europe, Operation Russia, Operation Blitzkrieg.

Four years ago, Anonymous posted one the first credos, and afterwards many quoted it:

“Do not let those who wish to suppress truth taint your view of Anonymous. We are not terrorists, but are your greatest allies. We wish to liberate you from suppression and oppression, and no matter how many of us fall in battle, Anonymous cannot be defeated.

We are Anonymous.

We are Legion.

Acer Cloud Mobile, the Comeback in Android Smartphones?

Right from the start, when we hear the device’s name, the main feature of this smartphone pops out., because it will be the first device to take advantage of Acer’s Cloud, named straightly AcerCloud. Through this technology, the user will be able to connect the personal content with the Cloud PC, but also to shuffle it from the PC to the smartphone more easily.

Just like Dropbox’s new technology, an Acer user will have the possibility to upload photos directly to and from the CloudMobile, while music files and videos will be available for streaming over 3G or wireless. The new Acer CloudMobile wants to be a business device, packet into a superb multimedia smartphone, with its ability to browse through the Cloud and print files wirelessly. The cloud technology is getting more and more popular these days and with Google’s Drive, maybe Android smartphones will have an official cloud feature.

The gadget will come assembled in a stainless steel on the front and a Dolby speaker on the back, which indicates that the smartphone will have a brilliant sound quality, while the 4,3” HD display assures the great image quality. Even though Acer does not provide further information about the technical specs, it is most likely that it will come packed with a dual core processor and 1 GB RAM.

Google Will Launch its Own Home Entertainment System

The system is said to be developed with both hardware and software components, which will, most likely, will be a derived from the well-known operating system, Android, with some features taken directly from the current tablets and smartphones. One of the very important features is the wireless music streaming. The Google branded system will be able to stream music directly from the web, wirelessly, in the entire house. Google will soon launch its own Google Drive cloud storage service, that should somehow help consumers decide whether they could trust Google’s expertise in hardware products or not.

Would You Fancy a Google Entertainment System?

With this new approach, Google will released the first product ever to be sold under the giant’s own name, because until now, Google has been developed excellent software products and support for the latest smartphones. While Google is buying Motorola to launch their own hardware products, Apple is set to launch a hot product, iTV, which will be released in the last quarter of this year.

The rumored iTV, which is speculated to be a 42” all-in-one digital TV, will support a front facing camera, that will allow video calls and gesture with facial recognition, music streaming via iCloud and an on-screen keyboard, with iOS as its operating system. One of the most anticipated features of the new iTV will be Siri, the well-known virtual assistant from the iPhone 4S, hopefully a major update of the feature, maybe even Siri 2.

While this is not Apple’s first try to release a digital TV, with the 1993 Macintosh TV, the company will have serious competition from the Google home system, both having mainly the same features. These both giants hope to reinvent the way a TV is currently used, mainly by introducing live streaming from servers like iCloud, or from the web, with the front facing camera and the operating systems.

Google Store to Open in Europe

The Google Store would be open to the public and sell lots of Google goodies. The rumors said it would be located somewhere in the Montevetro office block on Dublin’s Barrow Street. The store is supposedly going to be 1,323 feet with an added mezzanine floor intended to draw attention to costumers. As we said before, Google might face though competition from Apple, who’s already established as a store. Apple owns 361 stores across the country who have helped the giant fuel iPods, iPhone and tablet sales. But, you can’t really think there’s a competition between them, as Apple’s main business is represented by that while Google does this as a “hobby”.

Would You Buy Some Google Marchendise?

Google has in-door closed to the public Google store located within its headquarters in California. For buyers interested in buying merchandise, you can purchase some at the www.googlestore.com, like notebooks with logo. Another interesting aspect lies with the fact that back when Google launched the London-based store, it also stated that it had some more pilot store planned for around the world, but it did not mention if these plans involve any bigger, stand-alone stores.

We can understand Google’s reluctance to enter the retail world in a big way — renting a space, remodeling, and hiring staff is definitely costly.
