How Google Treats Duplicate Content

Duplicate content is a problem which many bloggers and webmasters care about. The reason is that duplicate content can harm your search engine rankings in the long term.

The block of contents that are similar under the same or different domains can be referred to as duplicate content. However, Google doesn't treat some contents as duplicate in some cases. Like, same article in different languages and occasional snippets (quotes).

When Google encounter with duplicate contents, it's algorithm filter the result of a search because Google wants to provide its users with the unique contents as much as possible. At the time when Google spider crawls a website, it tries to index and show pages with unique informtion. Higher priority is given to the contents that are index at the beginning. This is why we call "Content is the king" in the process of SEO.

So, how can you avoid duplicate content issues in your site?

Make changes in your robots.txt file. Let the search engines know which pages are to be indexed.
Always use the same url to link to a page within your site.
If your content is in Russian language, use top level domain such as .ru
Set the option whether you prefer with or without www at Google's Wemaster Tools. Google treats the site with www and without www differently.
If other webmasters use your content, make sure they link back to your original one.
Don't include the lengthy text at every page. Better to create a seperate page and link to it.
Make sure if your Content Management System doesn't publish the same content in various formats.

Duplicate content is a problem that every webmaster deals with. If your content is being published in other websites without your permission, you can notice it to Google by filing a DMCA request.

How to Hide Blogger Navigation Bar

Blogger navigation bar (navbar) is a toolbar that appears at the top of every blogspot blogs automatically. The Blogger navbar is intented to add additional functionality to the blog. However, it seems that only few blog readers use it.

It is possible to hide or remove the navigation bar with a simple CSS hack. The Terms of Service for using Blogger services do not mention anything on the removal of the navigation bar. So, all the bloggers considered it to be safe.

To remove or hide the navbar:

Log in to blogger
Click Layout>Edit HTML. Now you will be taken to the source code page of your blog template.
Find the code ]]> using Ctrl+F.
Copy the following code and paste it just before ]]>

Save the template.

Now, go to your blog and view the change.

At the time when I was searching online for some information, I visited number of blogspot blogs. And I found that most of those blogs used "Sharing is Caring" social bookmark widgets below every posts. From that moment on, I also wanted to add it in my blog that I have done already.

Besides different social bookmarking widgets found on the internet, "Sharing is Caring" is probably the most attractive and best one. As you know, bookmarking and sharing your blog posts by your readers allows you to achieve more traffic as well as rank higher in the search engines. Therefore, it is better to add social bookmarking widget in your every blogger posts.

This tutorial will help you to add "Sharing is Caring" widget below every blogger posts.

This widget can submit your post to some of the most popular social networking and bookmarking sites like Delicious, Digg, Technorati, StumbleUpon, Reddit, Twitter and Facebook. In addition, it also includes 'Subscribe to RSS' and 'Email to Friends' buttons.

Display Post Title Before Blogger Title

The blog title are displayed before post title by default in blogger blogs for individual posts. It is not an effective way to increase web traffic to your blog when this setting is left as it is.

The reason is, when someone search for the keywords related to your post, and if your post is displayed in the search engine results page by the search engines, your link is not likely to be clicked.

To make it more relevant for your potential visitors, it is necessary that you should make some changes to your template to display post title before blogger title when they are indexed by the search engines.

For example, if you have a blog with the title "Search Engine Optimization Tips" and you wrote a post titled "How to optimize blogger title". When someone performs a search with "optimize blogger title", by default, it is displayed as

Description of your blog

It seems fine, but if your blog title is too long, some parts of the title are omitted as Google will show only the first 65-68 characters in their SERPs. Like:

Move Blogger Blog To Another Account

You might be wondering whether it is possible or not to move a blogger blog from one account to another account. Yes, it is possible. In fact, it is very easy to do that. You just need to follow few simple steps.

Step 1: Inviting the new author

Go to the dashboard page where the blog you want to move is located. Click 'Settings'.

Then click 'Permissions' link.

Before making someone part of your blog, you need to first invite. And to do that click 'ADD AUTHORS'.

Now, enter the email address (must be Gmail) of the new account and click 'INVITE'.

Right after you invite the new author of the blog, Blogger will send a confirmation email.

Step 2: Confirming the invitation

To confirm, sign out from your present Blogger account and go to Gmail.com and sign in with the email address that you have invited to.

Then, click the confirmation link.

A new window will open. Enter your username and password and click 'ACCEPT INVITATION'.

Step 3:Removing the old author

Sign out the present account and again go to the dashboard page of the old blogger account.

Click Settings>Permissions.

Here you will see two authors (old and new). At new author, click 'grant admin privileges'.

Now, both of the authors have admin privileges.

Lastly, click the 'remove' link at the right side of the old author.

Now, your blogger blog has been moved to another account.

Sometimes you may want to display JavaScript or HTML codes in your blogger post as it is but find it very difficult. No worry, I will help you to get it done. For this, you have to follow the 3 steps to display JavaScript/HTML codes in blogger posts.

Step 1

First you need to add a special code in your blogger template. This code will highlight or decorate the scripts or codes that you want to display in your blogger posts.

Go to your blogger Dashboard > Layout > Edit HTML. (Recommended: Backup your blog just in case if anything goes wrong by clicking "Download Full Template") Now press Ctrl+F, a Find bar will appear and find the code ]]>

Create a new blog post and go to 'Edit Html' mode (not in 'Compose' mode). Copy and paste your converted code and enclose it with pre tag as shown below. Pre tag will activate the code that you have added in step 1.

Now, publish your post and see the result. Your code is displayed as it is.

Step 1: Signing in to your blogger accout

Notice the red text in the above code. You have to change it to the title (like: Recent Posts, Recent Comments, Subscribe, etc.) that you want to add in this multi tabbed widget.

Also, you need to replace the blue text with the code of the widget you want to add.

Then, click "Save".

At last, the process of adding multi tabbed widget in your blogger blog is completed. Note that, to make this widget match the color, fonts and width of your blog, you can edit it in the code provided at the step 3.

How to create a blog in blogger

Creating a blog in blogger.com is very simple and easy. The following step by step tutorial will help you to achieve that. So, let's begin.

Step 1

First step is that you should have a Google account that you used to access such as Gmail, Picasa, Adsense, Google Docs, or any other services owned by Google. If you have none or would like to create a new one, then go to Gmail.com and create a new account.

Step 2

After Gmail account is created successfully, return to blogger.com and sign in with recently created username and password.
