The mission of the Monroe Athletic Booster Club (MABC) is to facilitate and promote the activities of the Monroe High School's sports programs. MABC will work with the coaches and administration to support the athletic program by providing funds, boosting attendance, building morale and providing an enjoyable healthy environment for the student athletes. MABC will be responsible for raising funds required to meet the club's objectives.

Hornet Fans,

Presale tickets for the D III, Region 12 football game on Friday vs. Wyoming at Kings will be on sale this week at the high school. Cost per ticket is $7, with a portion of the presale benefiting Monroe athletics. Tickets will be $9 at the gate. Tickets will be on sale on the following days/times:

Wednesday: 5 to 8 p.m.

Thursday: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 5 to 7 p.m.

Friday: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Special thanks to the Class of '44 for donating $255 to the Monroe Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Fund. Treasurer Juanita Hume wrote, 'In September 2009 at our 65th class reunion, our class members decided to donate the remainder of our treasury to your Scholarship Fund.'

Monroe defeated Chaminade Julienne 12 7 at Welcome Stadium! Monroe had two interceptions, including one by Zach Fugate to seal the 12 7 win with 1:45 to play. Next up for the team is Wyoming (11 0) in the regional semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday night. Location: Kings.

Zac Eckert captured the Butler County kick scoring title this season with 52 points, then added a pair of field goals � including a school record 50 yarder � in the Hornets� victory over CJ last. He�s 40 of 42 on extra points and 6 of 10 on field goals this season and has more than a dozen touchbacks on kickoffs.

With 10 minutes, 37 seconds remaining, David Routson connected with Travis Hacker for a 38 yard touchdown strike that put the Hornets ahead for good as they held on the rest of the way to beat CJ.

Senior Zac Eckert, regarding his 50 yard connection against: �I thought it was short by at least 10 yards. I was really surprised I did it. I don�t know if I could do it again, underneath all that pressure.�

Coach Meibers: �I�d like to think we opened some eyes. CJ�s a really good football team. We didn�t play as well as we could�ve on offense, but on defense and special teams we did and that was the difference.�

Senior Travis Hacker: �I had to go up and get it. The ball was a little under thrown, but I just had to jump as high as I could.�

Senior Stephen Kelley: �It was tough. I�ve been in Monroe my whole life and finally got to play varsity. I played some my sophomore year, but last year was my first full year to start.�

Senior Blair Stegman: �It takes a full year to get the checks and everything down (the coaches) want. Being a senior definitely gives me an edge. You have to understand the defense inside and out and how the coaches want to match up against the offense.� �There�s no other position on the field like it. I don�t think there�s a more physical position on the field than linebacker. You take five yards, go full speed and smash into guards and running backs. There are big collisions. I love it.�

Coach Meibers, regarding Mark Miller: �He is a worker. He is just a gritty, tough kid and is really difficult to block.�

Coach Meibers, regarding Zac Eckert: �He�s a kid who�s made himself 100 times better than the first time I met him. He showed up this year and started kicking, and he was a completely different kid. Last year, he was OK. Now he�s a weapon.�

Coach Meibers, regarding Stephen Kelley: �Stephen�s an extremely bright kid. He knows what we�re trying to accomplish with the offense. He�s a physical blocking running back. Usually at that wingback position, you�ve got guys who are ball carriers.�

Coach Meibers: �All the credit in the world goes to our defensive coordinator Joe Ward. He put a fantastic game plan together, the coaches implemented it and the kids get it, they know exactly what we are trying to do with our 50 slant angle.�

Coach Meibers, regarding Travis Hacker: �Travis made a heck of a catch.�

Coach Meibers: �We knew on first down if we got a stop, we could put them in second and third and long, that we could run some of our blitz stunts. And that�s what we did.�

Alumni News:

Bethany Davidson � The Eagles were defeated in double overtime by Tennessee Tech 2 1 Friday night and finished the season with a record of 8 7 4 and an OVC mark of 5 0 3. Both records were program bests, and the team is the first team to claim a winning record in program history. Bethany was a starter her senior year.

Alex Hesson / Britney Beck � Wilmington College pounded on Capital�s door all night long, but the Lady Quakers� season ended with a 1 0 loss to the Crusaders in Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal action. The loss ends No. 4 seed Wilmington�s season at 11 6 2. Alex was a starter her senior year, and the senior group posted a 50 21 8 record.

Tad Kilburn: Ball State (1 4, 1 8) skipped a week last Saturday and will play Northern Illinois this Thursday at 6:00 pm. The game will be televised on ESPNU

Alex Keeton: Wilmington College lost, 28 14, at Baldwin Wallace Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Quakers to 1 7 in Ohio Athletic Conference action, 1 8 overall. Alex had 1 solo tackle and 6 assists. Senior Day is this Saturday.

Josh Herron: The Ohio Dominican defense set the tone early while the Panthers ground game dominated the day, as ODU won for the 6th straight time, defeating NCAA D II New Haven, 42 13. The Panthers had a season high 249 yards on the ground and set a new school record for rushing touchdowns in a game with six, eclipsing the previous record of five set in 2007 versus Campbellsville University. Josh rushed for 1 yard and caught 2 for 11 yards.

Jake Ruckman � The Pioneers (14 3 1) kept their 11 match win streak alive against the No. 4 seed Hanover and won the Heartland Conference Tournament Championship. The second seeded Pioneers also knocked out No. 3 Anderson in the semifinal game. Jake saw action in the finals. Transylvania's team will travel to Capital to open NCAA D III Championship action they advance to the championships for the fifth time in six years.

Maggie Hinkle � The University of Dayton won the A 10 Tournament Championship with a 5 1 win over St. Louis & a 2 1 win over Charlotte. The No. 24 Flyers improved to 16 0 5, keeping the nation's longest unbeaten streak alive Maggie saw action in the semis. UD hosts the NCAA tourney and plays Marquette Friday night @ 8:00.

Tyler Osterman, Jason Osterman, & Jared Ferguson: In Centre's (7 2, 4 2) biggest game of the year, the Colonels would suffer a 27 17 loss to Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Jason had 2 receptions for 39 yards.

Chelsea Stickelman: The Glenville State Lady Pioneer team downed West Virginia State 3 2. The Lady Pioneers got the 6th spot in the Tournament bracket and will face 11th Pitt Johnstown.
