In this way they upset the crowd and the city officials who heard them.
The officials released Jason and the others on bail. (Acts of the Apostles 17:8-9)

May 8, 2011

A squirrel having fun alone
scurrying
then another
playing their
scurrilous game

Five sparrows
sitting under
a picknick table
pecking the dust

Over the water
a seagull
suddenly
dives into
rippling waves

Four blackbirds
of a black feather
hopping
one of them limps

Motionless
a heron
peers into the water
standing still

Only time flies

In my mind is always the memory
Of the golden frangipani, then
Her sensuous Manila mouth
There on the far side of this is Paradise
And here the abiding mantra is always
Bonjour Tristesse
And the fabled immemorial phrase
As the dancing-girls came and went
Manila, Pearl of the Orient

Strange yet consoling it is to know
That she is always there, and here

Wrapped in silent shadows

a myriad unconscious colors
conscious dreams of value in store

soft and sweet are your words
enveloped in love and darkness

your strong heart beat from afar

heute Nacht
bin ich Abelard
du meine Heloise

und ich singe von
deinen lyrischen Lippen
den Formen deiner Brust
deiner Schenkel
du süße Überraschung!

wenn in deiner
Nacktheit Fest
O mein Herz
alle Versprechen bricht!

ich werde auch
auf Gottes Schädel und Brust
einschlagen
ich werde weder Tod
noch die Zeiten bedenken

SONNET TO A PILGRIM SOUL
by Santiago B. Villafania

When the sun gilds the sky in the morning
And deep darkness makes a noble retreat
O hear the music in the air fleeting
For you can never recapture the beat

When the morning spreads her warm golden wings
And the sapphire sky is wordlessly deep
Look yonder and feast with your <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/MakataVol11issn1656-8230/~4/antBWsdUTxk" height="1" width="1"/>

2009 World Poetry Day Reading

“Don't Bundle Me” (Watashi wo tabane naide) by Kazue Shinkawa

don't bundle me
like flowers we call stock
like white leeks
please don't bundle me I am an ear of rice
in autumn the earth longs for
the ever stretching golden field of rice ears
don't pin me down

Hurriedly driving going far,
I passed by the nearby coffee shop,
Searching and rushing to where you are,
I saw a rose and it made me stop,
Roses and coffee reminds me of your sweet nothings,
Esteemed on your paintings,
Your death got me insane,
Got this thing a growing pain,

I often sniff your shirt,
I stare at your favorite tennis shoes,
I’m folding now my purple skirt,

By Ember

If you can’t find me
Staring half-awake in a galaxy of tracts,
Dwelling in infinite obscurity
Wandering around once dreaded path,
Desiccating my wroth body under the rays of the sun.

If you can’t hear my voice
Waving in the air as it breathes,
Blazing in a handful of murdered hopes
Croaking for iniquity,
Upbraiding for divulged ignorance.

I’ll be somewhere out there
