Famed drummer of acclaimed and influential roots rock group The Band Levon Helm died today in New York after a long battle with cancer.

According to the Chicago Tribune:

Levon Helm, the founding drummer of the Band who became a creative force in roots music and cherished Americana icon as a solo performer, died today at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York after a long battle with cancer. He was 71. "We lost Levon at 1:30 today surrounded by friends and family, and his musicians have visited him," guitarist and frequent Helm bandmate Larry Campbell told the Times Herald-Record. Stallone and Schwarzenegger Finally in One Movie: The Tomb

Stallone and Schwarzenegger finally team up in The Tomb

This is probably one team-up that has been long overdue. Long-time pals Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally teaming up for what probably be the most-awaited action movie of the decade: The Tomb.

According to Collider.com:

We recently heard that Stallone was talking with his pal Schwarzenegger about joining the film in a different role, and today that news has been confirmed as both Stallone and Schwarzenegger are set to star. Stallone plays Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security. Breslin is framed and incarcerated in a prison of his own master design, and must now figure out how to break out (shouldn’t be too difficult if he designed the damn building). Hit the jump for more, including details on Schwarzenegger’s character.

Schwarzenegger will play Church, “a complex inmate with multiple shades of grey.” He’s described as “the guy who fights to keep the prisoners from losing their humanity in their darkest hour as they struggle together to stay alive.”

The two giants could be seen this spring in The Expendables 2.

Setback for Romney as Santorum wins over Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado

2012-02-08T00:42:00.000-08:00

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum caused a major setback to the 2012 US Presidential candidacy of Republican front-runner Mitt Romney by winning votes from Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado.

According to the Los Angeles Times:

Republican long shot Rick Santorum poked holes in Mitt Romney's aura of inevitability Tuesday night with a trio of upset victories that shifted the dynamic of the 2012 presidential contest.

The former Pennsylvania senator's wins in the Minnesota and Colorado caucuses and Missouri primary were setbacks for Romney, the national front-runner, who had been expected to cruise easily through a series of relatively minor February voter tests. He must now wait three weeks to regroup, when Arizona and Michigan hold what suddenly are shaping up as unexpectedly important primaries.

Disco Queen Loleatta Holloway Passes Away

American Disco Legend Loleatta Holloway passed away early this week at the age of 64.

According to Contactmusic.com:

Speaking to BBC 6 Music after news of Holloway's death had begun to circulate yesterday (22nd March 2011), Ron Richardson, Holloway's manager said, "She was a very strong, powerful woman, but she was sweet at the same time. She was also very fragile, which a lot of people didn't know". The singer, perhaps best known for her track 'Love Sensation', rose to prominence in the UK after the dance-act Black Box sampled her vocals for their number-one track 'Ride on Time'. The song became controversial after it emerged that the band had sampled Holloway's vocals without permission and the American singer successfully sued the group. Giles Peterson, the Radio 1 DJ and co-founder of the Acid Jazz label, spoke of his appreciation for Holloway and in particular her track 'Hit and Run', saying, "That needs to get played again, because that really takes the soul, the emotion, the disco - everything about Loleatta Holloway is in that one song".

Born This Way lyrics
from Metrolyrics

It doesn't matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
'Cause you were born this way, baby

My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir

"There's nothin' wrong with lovin' who you are"
She said, "'Cause He made you perfect, babe"
"So hold your head up, girl and you you'll go far,
Listen to me when I say"

I'm beautiful in my way,
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Don't hide yourself in regret,
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way
(Born this way)

Ooo, there ain't no other way
Baby, I was born this way
Baby, I was born this way
(Born this way)
Ooo, there ain't other way
Baby, I was born this way
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Don't be!

Give yourself prudence and love your friends
Subway kid, rejoice the truth
In the religion of the insecure
I must be myself, respect my youth

A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital H-I-M (hey, hey, hey)
I love my life, I love this record and
Mi amore vole fe yah

I'm beautiful in my way,
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Don't hide yourself in regret,
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Ooo, there ain't no other way
Baby, I was born this way
Baby, I was born this way
(Born this way )
Ooo, there ain't other way
Baby, I was born way
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way

( Queen ,
Don't be , Queen )

Don't be drag, just be a queen
Whether you're broke or evergreen
You're black, white, beige, chola descent
You're lebanese, you're orient
Whether life's disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
'Cause baby, you were born this way

No matter gay, straight or bi
lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
chola or orient made
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born to be brave

I'm beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Don't hide yourself in regret,
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way, yeah!

Ooo, there ain't no other way
Baby, I was born this way
Baby, I was born this way
(Born this way )
Ooo, there ain't other way
Baby, I was born this way
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way

I was born this way, hey!

Dark Sky Movement names the first dark-sky island in the world

The International Dark-Sky Association has declared the first dark-sky island in the world: Sark Island, 80 miles from the southcoast of England.

According to the Christian Science monitor:

A small, rocky chunk of land in the English Channel has been named the world's first dark sky island, a distinction awarded because its low levels of light pollution allow stunning views of the night sky.
The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) recognized Sark Island, which is about 80 miles (129 kilometers) off the south coast of England, for the quality of its night sky. Sark thus becomes the latest in a select group of dark sky places around the world, and the first island.
Sark, which is just 3 miles long by 1.5 miles wide (4.8 by 2.4 km), has no public street lighting, no paved roads and no cars, officials said. As a result, its night sky is very dark, with the Milky Way stretching from horizon to horizon, meteors streaking overhead and countless stars on display.

Lyrics courtesy of Lyricsmode

Yeah ah ha
You know what it is
Black and yellow, black and yellow
Black and yellow, black and yellow
(Repeated)

[Chorus]
Yeah ah ha, you know what it is
Everything I do, I do it big
Yeah ah ha, screaming that's stuff
When I pulled out of the lot, that's stuff
Step up in my town when you see me you know everything
Black and yellow, black and yellow
Black and yellow, black and yellow
I put it down from my whip to my diamonds
Black and yellow, black and yellow
Black and yellow, black and yellow
Black and yellow, black and yellow

[Wiz Khalifa- Verse 1]
Uh, black stripe, yellow paint
The n-ggas scared of it but them hoes aint

Put the pedal once make the floor shake
Suede inside, engine roaring

It's the big boy you know what I pay for it
And I got the pedal to the metal
Got you n-ggas checking game I'm balling out on every level
Hear them haters talk but there's nothing you can tell em

So many rocks up in my watch I can't tell what the time is
Got a pocket full of big faces
Throw it up cuz every n-gga that I'm with tailored

[Chorus]

[Wiz Khalifa- Verse 3]
Stay high like how I'm supposed to do
That crowd underneath them clouds can't get close to you
And my car look unapproachable
Super clean but it's super mean
She wanna f-ck with them cats

Get fly and take trips and that's that
Real rap, I let her get high if she want she feel that
Convertible drop feel, '87 the top peel back

[Chorus]

Amidst the mounting concern over the sharing of private information of its users to third-party applications and developer companies, Facebook delayed its move to enable these companies access to addresses and mobile numbers of the social networks' users.

According to Inquirer.net:

Facebook announced on its developer blog on Friday it would begin granting developers access to home addresses and mobile numbers but the social network followed up with another post on Tuesday saying the move had been put on hold.

"Over the weekend, we got some useful feedback that we could make people more clearly aware of when they are granting access to this data," said Douglas Purdy, director of developer relations at Facebook.
"We agree, and we are making changes to help ensure you only share this information when you intend to do so," Purdy said.

"We'll be working to launch these updates as soon as possible, and will be temporarily disabling this feature until those changes are ready," he said.

"We look forward to re-enabling this improved feature in the next few weeks."
The change announced Friday would have allowed Facebook members to share their home address and mobile number with external websites and third-party developers of applications.

For those who are into numerology, this New Year was particularly significant, being 1/1/11.
And the blond songstress seems to have happily found her match. As she described, "I could never love somebody the way I love him. He's my world."

Pickler tweeted today:

Just got back from my honeymoon & now I'm packing for the Middle East. Time to take a little piece of home to our service men & women. #USO
