Fall is a great time to document your ever-changing family. And it's a great time to share those images with friends and relatives near and far. Holiday cards, framed prints, albums and canvas wraps are just a few ways you can show everyone that your kids just keep getting cuter.

November 23 is my last day to photograph sessions for Christmas delivery, so let's get your family scheduled. Call Marci at 901-568-0211 or reply to this email. But don't wait! We have a limited number of sessions available. A $175 non-refundable deposit is due upon booking.

FAQ
Q. I don't know what to wear!
A. I can send you my Style Guide to help you pull together great looking outfits. It's full of tips and color palettes that will help you get the whole family dressed.

Q. I don't know where to do the session!
A. I have plenty of locations where I regularly shoot and can help you choose someplace that fits your family.

Q. Do you shoot on Sundays?
A. I reserve Sundays for rain dates and to spend time with my family.

Q. Can we just do the kids instead of the whole family?
A. Sure. But I'm going to encourage Mom and Dad to get in a few images. Why? Because don't you love photos of yourself with your parents from years ago? Your kids will too. They don't care if you don't think you're perfect. They love you just as you are.

Q. May I order more holiday cards?
A. Of course! They come in sets of 25 or 100. I can even give you envelopes ahead of time so you can start addressing them. I can also send you my holiday card catalog so you can start looking for a favorite design before your ordering session.

Q. May I order more prints?
A. Of course! Individual prints are $55 or you may order five for $225.

Q. I'm in a hurry. Can you frame my prints?
A. Absolutely! I've just added a new line of framing. Framed prints start at $75 and go up to $575. I also have collections that offer a savings over purchasing a la carte.

Q. I don't need holiday cards. Can I substitute something else?
A. I'd be happy to give you a digital image in place of the holiday cards. How's that?

Q. What if I don't want to order anything else?
A. That's fine, too. The great thing about this mini session is that it includes some product so I know you'll walk away with something you love.

Q. Help! I need gift ideas!
A. At your ordering session I'll show you lots of sample products and we can talk about what you need. Matted folios are great for grandparents. Framed prints and image boxes are thoughtful, as are holiday ornaments. And a big canvas or album would be a great gift for yourself.

Q. Can I use this special over Thanksgiving or later?
A. Sorry. November 23 is my cut-off for Christmas delivery. But you can still schedule a session at my regular rates. I just can't guarantee delivery by Dec. 24.

Q. Do you have any super secret bonuses for early birds?
A. I do! If you've read this far, I'll tell you that the first three people to schedule and pay the deposit will get a beautiful 16x20 print, framed by my new framing company. It's a $325 value and it is absolutely free to the first three people who book the session. It pays to read all the way to end, doesn't it?

Q. May I share this with a friend?
A. Of course. But book your session first and get that 16x20 framed print.

Another recent birthday session in the studio. This sweet girl is a ballet friend of ours and I find her breathtaking! She's growing up but she's so polite and at ease and has that fantastic smile. So glad I could capture her awesomeness.

This is part two from a post I did last week. Just couldn't resist adding some more photos. He was such an easy baby to work with.

His parents are newborn portrait veterans and they knew to schedule before he had arrived. Which was a good thing because he showed up three weeks early.

They also knew that that best portraits happen when babies are very young (under 10 days old), so they contacted me while still at the hospital. We were able to quickly set a date and meet the next week.

And I couldn't be happier with our collaboration!

Not much to say about this session, other than it was great to get going very early to take advantage of beautiful light. This sweet girl was so at home in her grandparents' gorgeously landscaped yard. She had a wonderful imagination and we went looking for tigers and fish. I could have stayed with her for hours!

This is one of the most awesome babies ever.

He was so sleepy during his newborn session that I was able to move him in and out of sets without him waking up or needing to feed.

Perhaps he's used to hearing his big sister in the background so noise doesn't bother him.

Or maybe he's just totally awesome. More portraits coming in a few days...

This cutie pie came in for a Birthday session a few weeks ago. I hadn't seen her since I had done portraits at a preschool years ago, so it was great to see her so grown up!

I love a child with spirit and personality. She's got both.

She was so easy to work with and gave me a big hug on the way out. See you next year, G!

Many thanks to my awesome clients who came out for the "I Hate My School Pictures" event a few weeks ago. Instead of getting a millisecond to pose, these kids got to relax in a fun environment and give me some real smiles. And their moms got to see the poses right away and make their selections. On the whole, I think it's a much better way to document a kid's progression through school.

Yesterday I showed you a few images of this adorable young man. This was his first session in his Baby's First Year plan.

He was happy to show me a few of his tricks. Like rolling. Smiling. And chewing on things.

He especially loves it when his abuela starts speaking to him in Spanish.

He's one sharp dressed baby. Can't wait to see him again in a few months.

I have to confess something. Although this is the second time I have photographed this sweet, sweet boy, I labeled all his images with the wrong name.

Not some random name. I named them his brother's name.

Perhaps because I've photographed his big brother multiple times? At least I didn't call him by his sister's name. That would be embarrassing.

The funny thing is that I didn't realize it until his mom told me.

And she gets his name wrong sometimes too. So I don't feel too bad.

Every once in a while I come across some unblogged images and I decide to let them see the light of day.

This was a session for a local architecture firm that wanted something a little different than standard headshots for their website.

So I photographed them in their lovely building and took advantage of the great light.

Much more suited to who they are, and they never had to leave work!

I love babies. I love mamas. I think I love photographing babies and women equally, which is why I have a whole line of portraits dedicated to just women. Along with a line dedicated to babies too. It's great when these loves come together in both a maternity and a newborn session. I love working with moms to plan out some beautiful products, like the framed prints above. Sigh. So pretty.

I'm working on a big project involving breast cancer survivors and I can't wait to tell you much more about it. For now, take a look at the support group behind this undertaking. I had help from Gould's Salon and Day Spa and Mary Kay who provided complimentary hair and makeup services to 26 women. Everyone involved has been delightful and I think this is my favorite project I've ever done. I offered a portrait to everyone behind the scenes, and they all took me up on it. And here they are.

She's been a great help with a project I'm working on with breast cancer survivor portraits. She'll even let me use her to set up a shot. And she'll submit to using my Canon to photograph me even though she prefers Nikon. Because she's just that awesome.

This may well be the best loved baby in Memphis. Not just because he is extremely cute.

Not just because he is wiggly.

Not just because he is charming and happy.

Maybe it's also because he's a Rainbow Baby. He has an older sister and brother, and a sweet, slighter older sister who died a few weeks after she was born. The loss will always be there, for sure.

I have no doubt he will hear all about her as he grows into a handsome young man.

And he'll bring his own special joy to a family who cherishes him.

What an honor it was to photograph him. And to know his story. Keep growing strong, Big Baby. I love you so much. We all do.

Holy moly, it's hot. I know it's hot because sometimes I have to go outside and then I can really tell it's hot. We've had a hot summer, and then we had a very pleasant break in the weather and now I want to go around punching things because I want that nice weather back. Gah!

But since I'm not in charge of the weather, I decided to post a few winter photos that I shot for Memphis Parent Magazine last year.

These kids were super cute in a fashion spread and they make me hopeful that it will not always be 1456% humidity in Memphis.

So maybe you can take a moment and just bask in the coolness and forget that it is hot outside. Enjoy.

Families are everything, part two

A month after my mom's side of the family came to visit, we met up with my dad's side in Pigeon Forge. We rented two cabins and the Lamberts stayed with my brother and sister and their families. My dad and stepmom stayed with her two daughters' families just across the street. It was a good meeting spot for people from Tennessee, Maryland and Florida.

While there is much to do in the Forge, we mainly stayed up on the mountain. Once again, my girls latched on to the littles and took very good care of them, giving my siblings somewhat of a rest. We cooked for each other, did each other's laundry and just talked talked talked talked. A lot. We spent a day at Dollywood and part of one at Splash Country, but for the most part we stayed put.

One of the great things about my siblings is that I really like all of them. Really. Even better, I love all their spouses. They've all married well and have great families. Even more better is that John adores them all too. I think he's enjoyed my family this summer as much as I have. And those babies? I'm so sad that I don't get to see them every day.

So thank you, parents, siblings, spouses, nieces and nephews for making this summer so awesome. I love you all.

Families are everything

It's been a month since I last blogged. This summer went so fast and the beginning of school, in early August, felt rude. I just wasn't ready. We had clothes and supplies and food for lunches, but emotionally I wasn't ready to get back into the grind. One of the reasons is that I got to have an awesome summer. My extended family lives about 1000 miles away so we don't see them that often. But I had the great delight of getting together with almost all of them. Here's part one.

My mom and my brothers' families came to visit in June, and of course we had to have a photo shoot. We spent our days at the Zoo, Graceland, downtown and in the hotel pool, but the absolute best thing was just talking and watching the cousins play together. And eating. We did a lot of great eating.

I loved the way Margret and Audrey just took to their cousins. They shared their stuff. They helped the littles in and out of the cars. It was like they have grown up together.

Her mom loves this image. It's totally her.

But this is her too, with her sweet big brother.

And we finally convinced their little sister to join in. She wasn't having it at first.

The force is strong in this one.

Although these cousins live not too far from each other, they really became buddies after a week of close contact.

Here's the whole bunch, having a great time. I love them so much. Can't wait until we do this again.

I met this sweet family at an event where the mom won a gift certificate for a session. As it turned out, the family was in flux, planning a move to Missouri, and we ended up with a small window of time when the dad was home one weekend. Mom had done a great job of coordinating the clothes, and they were a happy group of kids.

We took a walk in a park near their then-home and I was struck by how easy-going everyone was, despite the busy-ness of school and work and packing for a big move. I thought about what a great family they must be if they can just take an hour to enjoy one another.

And they truly did enjoy being together. I know they miss their friends here but I also know they are enjoying a whole new adventure together!

Professor Ghoul & Shotzi | Memphis Photographer

I've done quite a bit of commercial work this summer, but I think this session was the most interesting. WKNO needed headshots of several employees, including Professor Ghoul (Mike Degnan) who hosts a Friday night horror show (check out the schedule here). I've done headshots for WKNO before and I totally love the lighting in their corridor. And I was excited about doing something a little different than the standard headshot. No one has ever worn this much makeup for me before.

Bard Cole, the puppeteer and voice of Shotzi, also needed a head shot and this is what we came up with. It's perfectly them, in that perfect light. Bard is so skilled with Shotzi that I always find myself addressing the puppet instead of the man. I am not kidding. I talked nonstop to a puppet that day. I"m not sure I even said hello to Bard. But he seems fine with that.

We tried a few more poses and I love these as well. It's so cool to see people enjoy their work.

Grandkids | Memphis Photographer

I'm such a sucker for sisters. When I have clients with children younger than mine I can't wait to tell them how it just gets better and better. These two are close in age, like mine, and I feel sure they will stay close all their lives.

This session was a gift to their grandmother, who wanted a portrait with all her grandkids. Not a problem. They coordinated their outfits and and we went into my backyard for a few different setups. It was not hard at all to get a big bunch of smiles from them.

And these three are such good cousin buddies that their moms wanted an image of just them. I couldn't have asked for sweeter kids!

Sweet Baby S | Memphis Newborn Photographer

I found this session from the winter and realized I had never blogged it. This little sweetie is the third of three girls. All of them are adorable, and mom and dad have their hands full.

I was happy to do the session in their home, as the mom doesn't like take her tiny babies out in the weather. And I like to photograph newborns when they are ten days old or younger.

Luckily, she was sleepy enough to capture several great shots.
