A displayed item that is now in my possession!

We are given a guarantee by most shop managers that their products will be durable enough to last for years and are fit for their purpose. This is relevant for most items but the guarantee of durability is not applicable to all things. All goods have their lifespans which can be seen after a few uses; changes will occur and then gradually wear-and- tear develops.

One of our household items which didn’t last long was a laundry bag with stand. Its steel galvanized rack and the polypropylene plastic foot are still in good condition even now. But weeks ago the polyethylene plastic wash bag just gave up. As we didn’t have a spare replacement to use when it happened, I tried my best to repair the lacerated fabric around the edges and luckily I managed to restore its original shape.

Now, our newly purchased laundry bag is so much more superior and has a lovely contour. Even though it was from a second hand shop, this seashell like laundry bag has an exquisite appearance. I bet, even you will approve too?

It is a basket made of straw which has been woven by hand, creating a light weight laundry container with strong grips on each side. These makes it easy to lift-up and move, from one place to another. And also, it has a well-fitting lid which covers and secures the contents of the basket. It also has a grip that helps give the lid a tight fit.

Despite the fact that we already have the hand woven laundry basket, we are still using temporarily our old one. I am still waiting for a bottle of varnish to arrive which will help me to restore its faded beauty.

A necklace turned into a cordless phone...

I was very disappointed the day I opened the parcel handed over by our local postman. I waited for more than a week for the necklace but when I saw it, well it was a complete lie. It was a disaster!

The image on the web was very engrossing and the description was wonderfully detailed too. However in reality when I opened the box, it was the other way around. A trick that some online sellers are still practising. I have to admit, when it comes to deceiving customers, I'm one of their victims .

A Yellow Gold Necklace with Natural Cultured Freshwater Pearl Pendant is what I am talking about. I received it on the 22nd of December but it didn't delight my taste and wasn't worth waiting for. Its yellow gold chain, that was supposed to be long and thick, was brittle and thin. And also, the stunning pearl pendant was no bigger than of a mung bean seed. Yes, a mere pip!

I was very upset at how they had wasted my time. Also, they had compromised my whole attire for a night out. I had to attend a party incomplete and unembellished. As I couldn’t bear the disappointment, I filled-in the form on their website so I could send back the item at their own expense. Happy to say that their e-form was easy to fill-in and didn’t give me problems, Thank God! A few minutes after the transaction, my money was refunded and placed into my account. Very quick, I should say!

Even though they disappointed and misled me, I still looked for another necklace on their website. Unfortunately, my hours of search gave me nothing nor a single bit of luck.

I really wanted to buy something for myself when all of a sudden it slipped into my mind about our cranky telephone. For the past few weeks, it gave us difficulties when making calls. Its the third day and night after a world wide celebration of Jesus Christ's birthday. Perhaps, most of you have recuperated already after the boosting effects of beers and wines. Or could be, you are still enjoying the warm feeling of the duvet in the comfort of your own bed. Lazy git (just a joke)!

I will assume that you didn’t just have a festive celebration in your humble abode as you also received presents from your loving folk. Did you ever like or appreciate the gifts they wrapped for you? Because, I did appreciate mine and the gifts that I received were sent to me weeks before Christmas. Honestly, I was very surprised to have received all of them one by one, from the post and in person!

Enough about what happened last Christmas!

Get-up, fix yourself and call those people on the phone who remembered you. Or if you are still low in energy to speak with them on the phone, sit and write an e-mail conveying how thankful you are for having them on Christmas day.

You can adapt one of my suggestions above but I will send mine in a much more transparent way. Don’t ever think I am getting sluggish to send them e-mails nor to talk to them enthusiastically over the phone. Actually, I am sending my deepest sentiments already with the use of this blog.

They really made my Christmas meaningful and colourful this year. I can still remember days before JC's birthday, I was receiving festive cards and unexpected gifts from my cheerful friends; adorable family and from those I haven’t met in person yet.

I decided not to write a descriptive composition of each item but to publish images of the things I received on Christmas day. To all of you and you know who you are THANK YOU SO MUCH for thinking and for treating me so special this year!

MY UNEXPECTED APPOINTMENT

Christmas is coming to town and undeniably speaking, I can feel it in my bones. What I mean is, the Spirit of Christmas!

For the past few days, we received festive cards from our dearest family and friends here in England. Actually, we were expecting them but what we didn’t anticipate were the written sentiments. Honestly, when I was reading each card I almost burst into tears because their messages were so touching and very affectionate!

Aside from the cards, one of our closest friends inserted a voucher and it was intended for me to use. I didn’t understand what was in his mind by gaving me a voucher that entitled me to a consultation and any professional acne clearing treatment head. My initial reaction? I was very puzzled instead of being thankful so I gave him a call and asked the main reason behind the voucher. He said that he just thought of me when he was walking down a street in Central London full hair and beauty salons. I was touched when he said that to me and as a matter of fact, my skin really needs pampering nowadays.

I thought it was just skin pampering and to make the story short...

IKEA'S IMPRESSIVE PRODUCTS

It's not just their very filling breakfast that attract us both to go there during the week. Their easy to assemble and transport items called flat pack are of good value too.

IKEA is a home products retailer and supplies many items we need for our home at affordable prices. For example, cottony toys and colourful stuff for children's rooms; quality made furniture for the living room, kitchen and master's bedroom are available with lots of choices.

In my humble opinion, IKEA's products are designed and offered to provide us with the things we desire in improving the ambiance of our humble abode. Every time we visit IKEA, we never fail to find items to buy and bring to our house. The last time we were there and after enjoying their very affordable family breakfast, we purchased two of their offers.

One is a laundry product called LajBan Drying Rack that can hold up to 25 items of clothing. It's easy to assemble and has two fold-out wings that are detachable. Most of all, we only paid £6.99 for this easy to set-up drying rack. Isn't is really an amazing offer?

The second one is called Brada Laptop Support which fits all laptops measuring up to 17 inches. It has a flat surface for ventilation and a retaining edge to keep the laptop in place all the time. Honestly speaking, I was very reluctant about their usefulness on the day we purchased them and even compared at the back of my mind to the products I knew already.

I thought helix structure towel rack is better than LajBan drying rack. Why? I assumed that it provides more space and dries clothes even faster. But at the end, both function the same. Aside from the drying racks, I also thought that cooling pad is better than our green laptop support because of its functionality in reducing the laptop's operating temperature when in use. Again, Brada Laptop Support proves to be better and cheaper too!

Each item has its own uniqueness but both have proven to be money well spent and are made from finest materials. I am grateful that we bought these items even though it wasn’t in our plans!

A month ago, we visited a few computer stores around Sutton and Croydon. We were looking for an entertainment device that would provide an easy way of watching films or just a button only using a remote control. The device we were hunting is called screenplay multimedia that has amazing capacities. One of these is to play downloaded videos or programmes from a computer or saved to an external hard drive direct to the television. Unfortunately, our searched resulted in zippo! We were very disappointed at how substandard each gadget was that we saw and scrutinised in those techy stores.

The pageant started and our eyes were onto the 11 lovely candidates...

One by one they appeared and walked with their distinct Creative Jewel Costumes. They really were very resourceful and talented as they had created their own colourful and spectacular costumes. When I say spectacular, what I mean is contestants like Miss Garnet (Vivienne Robles Lacson) who depicted an Egyptian Pharaoh; Miss Pyrite (Yeveah Altieri) whose headdress reminded me of a Buddha’s prominent crown and Miss Tourmaline (Farrah Night) whose red furry creation almost conquered the stage. After displaying their creations one by one, they appeared on stage all together before the winner was announced. A minute after, the winner of BEST IN CREATIVE JEWEL COSTUME was given to MISS PYRITE (Yeveah Altieri). They walked back into their dressing room to change and for some retouch before they would appear on stage again. There were three intermissions during which we were entertained with song and dance by Geri Love, Alexis Mendoza and Huggy Doll.

The candidates were all dressed again and they were called one by one. But this time with their own interpretation of Fantasy Wear. They really were showing-off the naughtiness and sexiness in them. Like Miss Garnet (Vivienne Robles Lacson) who covered her frontal private parts with a big kissable lips and well-defined eyes. Very sexy indeed! Aside from her, MISS TOURMALINE (Farah Night) stole the show with her outer space outfit embellished with white feathers and had built-in dynamic lights too. And because of her impressive creation, she won the BEST IN FANTASY WEAR. A photographer took her portrait picture while the rest headed back to their dressing room.

PART I: AWAY FOR HOURS

A week before the 13th of September this year...

A friend of mine, Tina, invited me to attend a religious gathering held in Sutton. I replied Yes to her invitation without knowing where exactly in Sutton. As I wanted to know more of the location, I texted her and received an answer days before the event. The location wasn’t that far from the high street, so we agreed to meet inside St. Nicholas Shopping Centre. We were an hour early for the meeting but we had planned for that. Instead of doing nothing, we strolled around and had a pleasant chit chat about Jodie Marsh Body inside the famous Starbucks .

We arrived at the location of the gathering but before that, I had an idea at the back of my mind about the church as I have seen lots of churches in many parts of the Philippines. I was expecting a kingdom like edifice with meticulous carved designs and also, a heavenly interior ambiance, the sort of decoration designed to impresses the congregation. Unfortunately, my anticipation led me to the wrong conclusion.

This interfaith gathering is held several times a week. Though I was slightly shocked by the simplicity of the venue, it didn’t matter once we entered the community centre's lobby. A registration booth was waiting and supervised by kind and polite Filipinos. Tina had been to that gathering before and spoke to a woman who she knew. She directed us to where the actual sermon was spoken.

MY SOUVENIRS FROM BRIGHTON

The month of October is when you will expect dreary and gloomy weather, in the United Kingdom. There may be sunny days but not hot weather. Surprisingly, we had a change of weather for more than a week this year.

Two days ago, we went to Brighton while enjoying the unbelievable 26 degree celsius temperature in town. It was a planned day-out yesterday and not just taking advantage of the delightful weather!

I filled our small lunch boxes with finger food; sealed tightly our liquid containers and folded a few must have garments for the beach. All were placed in our knapsack. We drove our usual route going to Brighton and unluckily, we met some slow moving vehicles that caused heavy traffic for all of us Brighton day trippers. Instead of becoming grouchy on the way, we played our list of recorded songs that made us light-hearted and easygoing. After about 2 hours on the road, we arrived at the famous Brighton with the warm sun shining on our faces and a grassy fragrance reviving our respiratory system.

It wasn’t a favourable journey but reaching Brighton safe and sound eased our agonies. We parked our car and visited the big car boot sale, located on the top most level of the Marina car park. I was very fascinated at how crowded it was and also, how affordable the items and products were. Affordable in the sense that you can haggle the fixed price and they will give it to you so long as you offer a reasonable price. Actually, this car boot sale was friendlier than charity shops and most U.K. Charity shops' prices are fixed making it impossible to haggle (in my opinion!).

I was just there to observe, particularly, what they were selling to locals and tourists. But my intentions changed all of a sudden when I saw a clutch bag in very good condition. And my addiction to shopping was fired up! I was thinking twice about buying the clutch bag but the price tempted me so much. So, I asked the lady and handed over my dosh, rather than regret it for the rest of my life. Its a black faux croc leather bag in an imperfect cylindrical shaped which features a medium- sized stainless steel clip on a metal frame and has a strong clasp to keep the purse safely and securely shut. As an incentive, it is large enough for me to store beauty items and a handy gadget like cellular phone. However it is small enough to look smart and glamorous. As a matter of fact, it fits well inside my favourite grab bag.

Aside from the bag, I also bought 3 bottles of Eau de Parfum and each contains 20 ml. of lemony aroma. That was my main reason of snapping not just 1 but 3 pocket-sized bottles. They are smaller than my usual perfumes at home but what appealed to me more was the lemony scent.

It doesn't matter if it is a brand new or a second hand, used item. For as long as it looks fabulous and in great conditioned I will surely spend my money. The clutch bag and the miniatures of Eau de Parfum are proof that I am very flexible!

HIS RHYTHMICAL LITERARY PIECE

He is a very serious man who likes reading investors' magazines and also, various newspapers publicising useful ideas as well as the latest happenings in the U.K. Government. I treat him as my tough critic but behind is a man who appreciates poetry and loves to listen to popular and signatures songs from the 60's to 80's, mainly.

One of the days while I was reading a DIY (Do It Yourself) Magazine, I heard him deliver emotional poems. I was in deep surprise and have almost forgotten what I was reading- about change a postal address . It was a weird topic but it caught my attention so much. So, before I decided opening my magazine to continue reading the article, I went to him and encouraged him to record his compositions and the one below is just one of the many.

Though I know that evenin’s empire has returned into sand
Vanished from my hand
Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping
My weariness amazes me, I’m branded on my feet
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street’s too dead for dreaming

His poems were uttered spontaneously and in each sentence was bestowed with intense meaning. I was very impressed and delighted for he had touched my soul.

Fangs... Fangs and more Fangs!

I am not talking about canines or police dogs used in operations like sniffing of illegal drugs and catching life-threatening criminals in the world. Have you ever heard of Bill Compton or Eric Northman? If YES, you might have imagined both of them before bedtime or could be, when you watched episodes of True Blood on your TV screen. Frankly speaking, we are in the same boat as they are irresistibly yummylicious!

I waited for months before I was able to successfully downloaded a few episodes of TRUE BLOOD SEASON 4. We were craving to see the whole cast again and even looking forward to see new faces. We wanted to see the whole casts but I only wanted to see more of Bill Compton and Eric Northman whom I consider sizzling hot vampires. Their masculine fictional characters made me feel sensual and sexy. Also, I was delighted as they love Sookie Stackhouse unconditionally.

Watching 3 episodes of True Blood Season 4 over the past nights, really boosted me and satisfied my hunger too. I only just noticed some staggering changes to the characters and their lives that I had loved before and loving more now.

Bill Compton, the law-abiding vampire and the x-fiance of Sookie Stackhouse is now the proclaimed King of Louisiana. Soon after when Sookie was missing, there was a gradual leaped in Bill's Life. Though she had a few intimate relationships with men in Bon Temps before, she is now contently living with a woman in New Orleans. She works as a cage fighter who is is undoubtedly becoming stronger after a few horrible experiences with the vampires. She is currently in Bon Temps to see her childhood friend, Sookie and cousin, Lafayette.

Slim yet masculine and sits on a shiny table-top. Its lighter-weight makes it easy to carry and move around. And, the advanced built-in settings to choose from will impress you.

One of the ways to watch films and programmes on the monitor is to plug into the TV a PC with SCART socket (the most common method of connecting audio-visual equipment together). As it is easy to attach and assemble, we use it from time to time for our viewing pleasure. What I mean is, we are able to watch on the monitor our downloaded films stored in the external hard drive or Sci-Fi programmes for example, from a laptop. Now I know, why he was very eager to replace our cathode ray television!

We had our 42'' TV for months now and we have found a few useful applications (information) that we are not even bothered to try. Such as,

It is a wireless LAN ready device. To use the Internet setting of the TV, it needs to have the right USB Wireless LAN Adapter to be connected into the TV's USB port. This Internet network setting will allow us to access the internet without the need of a specialised cable. Our house will be a cable(messy)-free environment, if we will supply one!

Aside from the uses of SCART to watch films or programmes, HDMI (a compact audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed digital data) is an option that can be used for as long as you have the perfect fit cable. Just being honest, we are not bothered to switch!

He paid a few hundred pounds but the money was well spent. And we are now benefiting from its superior technology.

SONY BRAVIA's nifty applications charmed myself and made me quite inquisitive also- to dig and know more. One of my lazy days, I was manipulating the TV and found-out that music and pictures saved in a flash drive can be heard and seen on the TV. WOW! That’s why when we hosted a party last month, I converted the monitor onto a digital photo viewer. The images were incredibly large and the visitors were fascinated. Most of them stood in front of the TV while enjoying the slide show of my sequence of fabulous images!

CERAMIC GLASS HOB

New is better and more efficient!

A month ago, our four-burner hob was replaced with a new one. It was needed as most of the rotary knobs were loose, thus controlling the power of each zone was getting unmanageable. To be honest with you, the last few days we still had the 'aged' one made me irritable as turning on & off was very troublesome.

We had a chit chat...

Late in the afternoon or before they came around to the house, we received a call. The man on the other line was the electrician who is also a qualified appliances fitter. He just verified the problem and confirmed the time they (him and his assistant) will surprise us. We were waiting until they arrived and with them was a sealed square box. They hid the new hob for us (why?) to moderate our reactions. LOL! The assistant mangled the box and we were presented with a CERAMIC GLASS HOB. Primarily, it has four burners with various cooking zones and sensitive sensor fields.

Gordon and I left the kitchen for awhile to make them homely. Before they left, we had a conversation with him (Mr. Electrician) regarding people who are now millionaires and successful businessmen. We thought he was just a typical worker who will just knock at the door, ask about the problem(s) and fix the job, specifically. Surprisingly, he wasn’t! He knew the facts and stories behind the success of these people who are usually seen/ read in money magazines. Two of the reasons why they are not that famous like actors because their stories were placed inconspicuously and written in small fonts as well. HOW PRETTY SAD!!!

I didn't burst into tears after seeing the well fitted ZANUSSI CERAMIC GLASS HOB in our kitchen. I kept my feeling concealed while they were still in the house. The design impresses me, very nifty, and the efficiency is making my cooking skills nowadays more manageable and enjoyable!!!

HAIR REMOVER BODY WAX STRIPS

Sticky, slightly painful but effective!

I was very reluctant, but the price was unbelievably cheap. For that reason, my hesitation to buy a box of Hair Remover Body Wax Strips from a shop that sells products under £1 vanished- like a wink of an eye! A few minutes after being astounded inside the shop, I queued and paid the dumbfounding price at the counter .

I had a few sessions before and was always advised by my skin therapist to grow my hair a cm. long before booking an appointment.

Later this afternoon...

I took a shower and was looking forward to use the DIY (Do It Yourself) hair remover. I was new to the process but as they say, there's no harm in trying, so I proceeded! After waiting for the recommended length, I opened the box and tried a few strips. It felt like opening a gift that was hidden for weeks. After a minute of reading and following the instruction written at the back of the box the result left in my legs was smooth and clean. Again, it wasn’t just the price that amazes me as the result too! However, doing it all by myself wasn't that easy and simple. I am not implying it was intricate, but beauty regime like this needs another hand.

A few of us will choose to go to beauty salons in which waxing is offered for a price. I will highly recommend salons or clinics if the asking price is not a question for you?

A DIAMOND RING

Months before my birthday...

Gordon had asked me what I want on my 27th year in this world. I've said to him, what about a pair of pearl earrings as per my birthstone! So, he was relieved because he knew what to find in the High Street or Jewellery Shops. Unfortunately, his hunt for pearl earrings didn’t yield a good result. Most of the earrings were looking cheap and artificial. He was feeling unlucky as days before he'd been searching and still, not finding attractive earrings. As I didn’t want to see him turning frustrated. I had pacified his thoughts by simply saying, we better search for a gift together. I know this is not the most romantic way of gift hunting but oddly enough, we were both happy doing it.

We went to the high street and visited a few shops. Even I found it tiring to find an eye- catching one. What I mean is, exceptionally charming. We were getting tired as time went by. Looking into windows; entering shops and even asking sales assistants. And all of a sudden I said to him, perhaps, this is not yet the right time for me to have ear piercings. We sat for awhile and surprisingly, I thought of a diamond ring! (if in case, I will be in a financial crisis I can easily pawn the ring...lol!).

A day before my birthday...

We went back to the high street and checked 3 Jewellery Shops. If in case, they had a sale or a ring that is worth purchasing. The first two shops offered reduced prices but they had not convinced my eyes to buy one of their collections. We walked and entered another one. When we were walking towards the shop, I saw a few displays in their window. Trays of earrings, necklaces, rings etc. All of the collections have valuable stones that made me so eager to ask one of the assistants to hand me a few trays of ring. I scrutinised and fitted like 5-6 rings before I finally said to Gordon, this is what I really want! A Diamond Ring in a setting of Blue Sapphire Stones. However, the ring was slightly loose for my fourth finger. The man who assisted us said, ' We can re-size the ring Madame and will be collected a week after, would it be fine for you? '. We all have agreed and I didn’t give a minimum fuss how long it will take. We paid the full amount and headed to the car park.

When we were inside the car, he surprisingly said to me, ' Thank you for helping me find what you fancy on your birthday'. And I replied, ' It is me who should say Thank You for making every birthday I have with you so special with or without gems'.

It was a nice feeling for me to see him light-hearted and free from worries!

FOOT SPA FOR MR. REILLY

I couldn’t bear any more the smell of his feet and the roughness of the soles too, so I volunteered to offer my service with love...

When I was in the Philippines, I befriended salon owners and their polite employees. On my day off, I used to visit them and stay in their salon to learn more of the services they are offering and the secret products they are using. I am very thankful and lucky that within a short period of time, the knowledge and techniques they have imparted onto me were worth the effort. I am now reaping the benefits of what they have shared willingly onto me.

One of the services that I am now using from time to time is called, FOOT SPA. A treatment used mainly to soothe a person's weary feet for a given time. As I know the basic process of the treatment, I offered this to Mr. Reilly last week. Nowadays, his feet are smoother and less smelly ,but the first treatment was not enough. I will be doing this once a week until I can finally say, PERFECT! As per the condition of his feet, it does need more care and take time to cure the foul smell.

We were out earlier. While waiting for him to get ready, I was surprised to see him wearing one the new T shirts I bought last week. But was speechless when I saw his adorable feet in his smart weave sandals.
