DIY Hemming Jeans

I'm a short girl. Buying pants is such a struggle. I'm too short for a regular jean but too tall for the short jean. I had such a hard time buying any pants . . I just didn't buy any.

And I got away with it for years.

I just wore what I had and folded them . . .

which I will admit

looked really really bad.

But a few month ago I learned how to hem my jeans without cutting the original hem. And now I just buy jeans that fit my curvy self and don't worry about the length. I can fix that in just a few minutes!

Just a tad too long.

You will need to get a pair of jeans that fit you in length already to use as your template.

The jeans in the first picture are different. I finished hemming the other pair but forgot to take a picture of the before. I have a few that need to be hemmed so I just snapped a few photos of the another pair.

. . . excuse the dirty jeans. That's what happens when I don't fold them. Wow, that's a good 3 inches or so too long!

Measure from the end of your template jeans to the stitching of the hem on your jeans that need to be altered. For me that's 3 1/2". Divide that in half. Which is 1 3/4.

Leaving your jeans right side out, fold your jeans up so the inside of your jeans are showing using your halved measurement. In my case, I'm going to fold my jeans up 1 3/4" from the top of the hem to the bottom of the fold.

Got it?

Get pin happy!!

Pin your fold all the way around.

NOTE: Make sure your seams line up!

Again, please excuse the dirty hem.

I swear I do laundry!

I usually put a pin on either side of the seams to really keep that section from moving. You don't want that to be off.

Seriously!

I really shouldn't have to tell you to do the same with the other pant leg.

But then again . . .

You know who you are.

Now it's time to sew!

For these jeans I used a navy blue thread. You won't see it on the outside anyways. But I like to think that I helped my sewing be more invisible.

Sew as close to the top of the hem as you can all the way around. Keep those seams in line at all times! You may need to go slow over the seams since they are pretty thick. Sometimes I have to turn the wheel on the side of the machine by hand. It just depends on the thickness of the seam.

Now it's time to iron!

Not my favorite part of sewing but it's necessary. Iron the hem folded up first and then unfold it. Iron the bottom of the jeans pulling slightly at the seam you just

made.

You can cut that flap of jean that's left if you want, but it will fray and you will be constantly cutting those threads. I just leave that flap in there and iron the bottom of my jeans after I wash them.

See I told you I do wash my clothes!

Voila!

Your jeans should fit you now!

No one will ever see that seam unless they have a foot fetish.

Ok, I just had a visual of a stranger inspecting my feet while I'm shopping.

Office/Studio Redo!!

Mr. Right and I shared an office in our house for a few years. About two years ago he moved into the old playroom. And I got my "Mom Cave".

And it was a cave.

Dark trim, dark floor, dark fireplace. The epitome of blah!! It was nice for a while but then I accumulated a lot of fabric, paint, machines, and stamps.

My name is Tiffanie Doyle, and I am a Craftaholic!

Whew!

The first step is admitting it.

Right?

Yeah, It's not going to help me one bit.

So here is my mess of a studio/office.

I swear I am more organized that this in the rest of my house.

Seriously!

There was so much stuff in there that I couldn't think straight.

That and I had no idea what was in there.

This room is used to run Ignite Interactive, a web design firm that Mr. Right and I own, and an Etsy shop ( Marie & Rose ). The latter of the two got pushed to the back burner because I had no room to move anymore.

You can't see it from that angle but there were four doors in that room.

Four!!!

Look at this mess! I should seriously be mortified that anyone has seen this.

See that brown door on that back wall. That led to my bedroom.

Why, is all I can say.

This house is about 100 yrs old and there are doors everywhere!

I attempted to paint the main door but didn't have any primer. UGH! I know. Who paints a dark wooden door without priming it first?

Ummmm . . . .

Me?

So out went the door to our bedroom, trim painted, room cleaned out, trash thrown away, unwanted bulky furniture sold. All in about three weeks .

I seriously could not have done this without Breanna Griffen, of Hiffen Organizing!! It would have taken me months to do this on my own. She pushed me to get things done immediately. Something I really needed.

She taught me a lot and she says that she learned so much about organizing a craft studio. One tip that has stuck in my mind was to have a Good Will trash bag ( one of those black industrial ones). Keep it in an inconspicuous place and fill it with your unwanted items. When the bag is full, immediately put it in your car to take to Good Will.

I had Closet Rejuvenation come out and install cabinets on two walls of my room. And they did such an awesome job! It was exactly what I needed to keep my things out of the way yet accessible.

They even have there own shelf of crafty goodness. They have become pros at putting there stuff back where it goes. This momma is so proud!

And I'm able to think in here, blog even, and get my butt in gear with my Etsy shop. Not to mention meet clients, do training, and have craft night with the girls!

Thanks again Hiffen Organizing and Closet Rejuvenation for the help and the push I needed to be more organized!

100 Days Smarter!!

A few weeks ago we celebrated the 100th day of school. LM's teacher asked him to make something with 100 items on it. I couldn't just let him take something glued on paper. Oh NO!!! Not this mom! I made this!

I hot glued 100 buttons onto a t-shirt. LM picked out the shape which ended up being a car. A Toyota Prius to be exact. He picked out the color . Red of course. No other color will do. While the glue was drying, my honey made an svg file of the words "100 Days Smarter!". I cut them out using freezer paper with my trusty Cricut. Then I got to work painting the stencil.

Tiger had his 100th day of school last Friday. So I made him one as well. He wanted purple and pink on his car. I spaced his out a little more evenly since I had a week to make his. LM's was made the night before. But they love there shirts!

Christmas in February

So it's not December any more and I have been crazy busy with projects, surgeries, and keeping up with my kiddos. Life went on and my blog got left behind. My hand has healed, my studio is remodeled and organized, and life is calming down just a little bit.

So I'd thought I'd share something I made for the teachers in my kid's lives for Christmas.

I have a TON of Starbucks Frappucinno bottles that I have saved. And yes we drank all those Frappucinno's ourselves. It was a sacrifice. I just cleaned those out, took the stickers off, filled them with chocolate and used SU paper and punches to make Santa's Belly. It was so fast and fun to make. My kids loved helping pour the chocolate . Although, I think they ate more than they put in there!

I like to have frames that I insert a 5x7 card for each holiday . This one took me all of ten minutes. I love the embossing powder from Stamp'n Up. I think it's my favorite item in the catalog. I'm sure you will see more embossing projects through out the year. I actually switched frames mid way through the holidays because the black was just too harsh. I went with a silver frame with gold undertones instead and it looked much better.

Last but not least is a combination of my husband's and my creativity. He designed our company Christmas card and we used Top Note Die for the Big Shot. We used the actual Top Note for another project but kept the frame and used it around his design. We then cut (very carefully) around our logo and used dimensionals to mount it onto the candle to give it a 3D effect.

Now that my studio/office is cleaned up, I will be able to post more often. So stick around and see what else I have in store.

Joy of the Season

Yesterday was the first time in a month that I was able to make something. This past month was so busy, we barely had time to sit down. I'm hoping to slow down soon.

In my ten minutes of creativity time, I decided to update a 5x7 frame that was decorated for Halloween. Now keep in mind I have three kids.

There was no school.

There was very little time.

I used the Flourish Textured plate for the Big Shot on Very Vanilla, Red Riding Hood Red card stock and ribbon, as well as gold embossing powder. The letters are from the Lovely Letter Stamp set. I think it needs something else to add some pizazz. Any suggestions?

More Creativity from Mr. Right

I can't believe our youngest is 5 yrs old now.

Time does fly.

This years theme was Angry Birds.

It happened by accident really. The lady where he was having his party mentioned that she had ordered some Angry Birds balloons. So I jumped on that theme really quick. Tiger loves the game and can be seen playing it on my phone everywhere.

First came the invitations which my talented and super sexy husband designed.

It's ok.

You can agree with me.

My husband jumped on the bandwagon and got to brainstorming about the cake. This is what he came up with.

Pure Brilliance.

He so creative, I'm telling ya!

The towers where made from granola bars and gingerbread from the Christmas Gingerbread Kits. We ordered the Angry Birds Cake Toppers on Amazon.

We had an actual Angry Birds Game in a box that we placed on the table for the kids to play with while enjoying their pizza and juice. I wish I had a picture of it but they kept knocking the towers down faster than my camera was taking pictures. *sigh*

What's a party without something for the kiddos to take home?

How about these treat cups? Awesome right?

We just took some large red plastic cups, cut the shapes out and glued googly eyes them. They were a hit!

NC Demo Holiday Blog Hop

Welcome to our first North Carolina Stampin' Up Demonstrator Holiday Blog Hop! Where Stampin' Up Demonstrators from NC share there inspirations for the upcoming Holidays. You are bound to get some great crafty ideas.

One of the favorite stamps sets from the Holiday Mini catalog is the Stitched Stockings set. You can check out the Holiday Mini Catalog on the right side bar. It's truly a must have set. It's so fun and not only can it be used for Christmas but for baby cards as well. You will see a card for a baby shower in the next few weeks so keep coming back.

First is a Stitched Stocking Christmas card . This card uses Real Red Cardstock which is embossed with Petals a Plenty embossing folder. Next is Crumb Cake Cardstock which is then layered with Very Vanilla. I stamped "Seasons Greetings (from the Snow Swirled Stamp set) in Real Red and heat embossed the stocking in Pewter embossing powder. Real Red Ribbon is accenting the card.

This next project is a Christmas Gift Tag. This time using the Stitched Stocking Punch. I cut out the Top Note using the Big Shots in Very Vanilla and then again in Pear Pizazz DSP Patterns Stack In Color. I cut the Pear Pizazz Top Note in half. Next I embossed very vanilla with texture plates using the Harlequin Design ( hopefully you can see the textured harlequin design). And punched out two stockings. The toe, heel, and top of the stocking was punched using Pear Pizazz card stock. I then added some bling. Using one of my favorite tools, the Crop-a-dile, I punched a hole and tied some Seam binding in Pear Pizazz to the gift tag.

Ahoy! Pirates and Flowers

Karen, at Paper Creations by Karen hosts a Girl's Night Out for Teens once a month. A chance for girls to get together, hang out, eat pizza and snacks, gab about girl stuff and craft. I joined her this past Friday night along with some really fun teen girls in our community.

We talked, we ate, we laughed and we learned. And not only did the girls learn how to make flower barrettes and pins they gained friendships. And just so you know, the apple cinnamon thingy at Papa John's is really good. We ate the whole thing. Oh YES we did!

Since my daughter could not join us that night, I decided to make her a flower. The fabric I chose was perfect. She loves pirates! I gave her the option of doing a pin or a barrette. She of course loves it and wanted to put it in her hair.

I can't wait for next month to see what we will be making! Hopefully, my daughter and her friend will be able to join in the gabbing, crafting, and pizza.

Fun with Stampin Up!

I have been super bad about posting my projects. Please don't smack me with a wet noodle. I will do better. Things have been crazy around here with homeschooling my teenage daughter, my youngest in preschool for 1/2 days, and my oldest boy in 1st grade in public school. Three kids going three different directions has this momma going crazy!

A few weeks ago, I attended Regionals with Stampin' Up for the first time.So many creative and talented people in one place. It was almost overwhelming. There where projects galore, new techniques, new products to drool over, awesome people to meet, prizes, and lots to learn.

One of the highlights for me was meeting Shelli Gardner, Co-Founder and CEO of Stampin Up! She was so down to earth and so sweet. She took the time to visit with every one.

OMG! I look like I'm 4ft tall!!

Now I have heard of Swaps. But I had never been involved in anything like it. But I gave it a whirl and made two cards to give away while I was there. And with three kids, that was not an easy task to try to get done with a deadline.

This top one was made using the Tulip Frame Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and the Style Beautiful Stamp Set. The card stock colors are Concord Crush and Pear Pizzazz and the ink was Concord Crush and Sahara Sand. Excuse all the weird shadows and lines. I was taking pictures in front of the window.

This card was made with the Top Note Die and the Elements of Style Stamp set. The card stock is Chocolate Chip, Certainly Celery and Very Vanilla. The ink was Certainly Celery, Old Olive, and Chocolate Chip.

At the end of the month I will be going to the Quarterly Meeting in Greensboro. I haven't even come up with the designs of my swaps yet. YIKES! I promise I won't take so long to post them this time.

Altered Clipboard

Life with three kids has kept me busy for the last few months. But I have found time to eek in some crafty time. Here is a peak at an altered clipboard.

I used stamps from the Hello Again stamp set from Stampin' Up as well as the Designer Series Paper (can't remember what it's called at the moment) and lots of ribbon. Once I got a template for that size board mapped out it was easy going. Just a lot of drying time.

I had fun making this one. I think I'll make some more!

One of the best parts about being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator is that I get to play with all the goodies. And I get to create for a living! The most recent stamp sets that I have gotten is the Party Hearty Stamp set. To order this set visit my website.

Isn't it cute??? There are so many things you can do with these stamps. One of my favorite ideas that was shared with me by my friend Karen at Paper Creations by Karen, was only ink the hat itself not the little tops. Turn them upside down and make them into pennants! Add some bling by using glitter on the words or the flame on the candle

My parents best friend and I share the same birthday and we celebrate our birthdays together. So I wanted to make him a birthday card that was masculine but not overly manly. I used Stamps from the party hearty collection from Stampin Up! and designer buttons. The design came from Janet Munster of Inspired by Stampin. Hers is pink and purple but i needed to make it a little more manly. So I used paper from Die Cuts with a View and Cardstock from Stampin Up.

I think it turned out cute!

Carwash Cake

One of the things I love about Mr. Right is that he is so creative. Most of the time its graphics and web design but lately he's come up with some really cool designs using all kind of things.

This past weekend it was with fondant!

Having a son who is Autistic has juiced up Mr. Right's creativity. Little Monkey loves anything that spins. And right now he's on a car wash kick. He eats, sleeps, and plays car washes. If he's not eating pasta that looks like spinning brushes, he's watching them via You Tube on the iPhone, or making my mop heads into what he calls "sqeegieers".

So when LM turned 6 it was inevitable that we were going to be faced with the challenge of making him a cake with a car wash theme.

Now I am not very good with icing and fondant at all. But Mr. Right was bound and determined to make his son one happy birthday boy.

He spent a few days researching and asking his co-workers about it and then dove in.

The base of the car wash is Rice Krispie treats that he wrapped in fondant that he colored blue. The only thing I contributed to was to smooth out the seams. I was too afraid I'd mess it up.

Next he placed three small marshmallows on toothpicks to form the brushes and stuck them inside the car wash. Two for the sides and one for the top. And cut (very carefully I might add) Gum strips to make the "Sqeegiers". He wrapped the part of the gum that wasn't cut around a toothpick and stuck it in the back of the car wash.

Now since we waited to get the materials for this cake to the last minute we didn't have time to actually make a cake. Our solution was to buy a pre-made sheet cake from the grocery store that had no decorations on top.

He didn't stop with just the car wash. He used Wilton's Color Mist in black and using a paper template he cut out, sprayed a road onto the cake. He then used Betty Crocker's Decorating Icing in Green to make bushes on each side of the road.

And then used Wilton's Fondant icing writer to write Happy Birthday on the cake. It bled a tad but LM didn't care. He was beyond excited when we brought out the cake.

And of course because we are doing our best to be green, Mr. Right placed a Toyota Prius on the road. Granted it wasn't white like the one we own but at least he was being earth conscience!

Have I mentioned that I love the fact that I married a creative man? I'm super proud of him. He did this all by himself. I see us getting a Cricut Cake sometime in the near future.

Mr. Right gets a Valentine

I know valentines is over but I just had to share what I did for Mr. Right this year.

This idea came from Tara at Mom's of all Trades. Thanks for the fabulous idea Tara!

I made the card using Stampin' Up paper, stamps, and embellishments. I will eventually get a better picture of the card but I was using my phone so the picture isn't the best.

When I went to the florist to ask for just a vase and greenery she looked at me kind of strange. It cost only $3.20 plus the cost of the longer Slim Jim's. It was so easy to put together and Mr. Right Loves it. Every once in a while I'll catch a glimpse of him munching on his bouquet.

The coupons came from Kendra at Key Lime Digital Designs . Aren't they cute? There were even blank ones so I could write in my own special freebie to Mr. Right (*wink*).

Last, but not least, I bought him a King size Dark Chocolate Hershey Bar (his fave) and took off the outer wrapper. I printed out this printable from Ellie G at Less Cake More Frosting. Isn't it super cute? My hubby loved the fact that it said it had no Fat. That just makes it the best kind of chocolate ever!

Shabby Chic Magnet Board

I did this project over the summer and thought I'd share it with you. I have loved the magnet boards I have seen around the blogging world and decided that I needed to make one of my own. There are lots of tutorials out there for these. I probably will do one as soon as I get my patooty in gear and make over my daughter's room.

But for now you are stuck with just a picture.

Basically, I found several frames for a dollar at Goodwill and snatched them up before any one else could grab them. I removed the glass and set it aside. You never know I might use it in another project in the near future. I spray painted one with a cream paint. I picked up some sheet metal at Lowe's and used my tin snips to cut it to fit in the frame.

Yes I actually own a pair or tin snips and no they are not my husbands!

I would recommend you wear some construction gloves as the metal is super sharp.

I took my favorite stuff ever . . .

Mod Podge and covered one side of the sheet metal with and laid down my chosen piece of fabric. I cheated and used what I had on hand. My handy dandy Cricut Scraper thingy. To get rid of any bubbles or wrinkles.

I let it dry a few hours.

Ok it was a few days but that's because I have three kids.

I then turned the sheet metal over and spread some more Mod Podge on all the sides and used the scraper thingy again to get out any wrinkles or bubbles. I let that dry and then added two to three layers of Mod Podge on top and let it cure for 24 hours before I placed the metal into the frame.

Once it was done I keep thinking it needs something else. Something to compliment the fabric and add some whimsy. So I whipped up some Kanzashi flowers out of denim and added magnets to the back of them.

Voila'!!!

Although this is a new blog, I am not new to blogging. Some of you may know me as the author of Three Peas in a Pod, a mom blog that is packed full of giveaways, reviews and my crazy kids. My name is Tiffanie, I am a SAHM, Stampin' Up Demonstrator, and a crafter. I have three kids, all of whom have learning and/or developmental disabilities.

Throughout their lives we have gone through lots of therapy and one thing I found constant is crafting as therapy for myself as well as my kids. Crafting is not only calming, it helps with motor skills, self esteem, sensory issues, and well it's just plain fun!

So, please keep coming back as I share what's hot in the crafting industry, new techniques, creative ideas, and some of my own creations. And don't worry, I won't leave the the kids out. There will be lots of projects for your little one that will encourage them to use there imaginations.
