No matter what anyone tells you, handwritten adult blogs work better than splogs as sales tools when you want to make money from porn.

The reasons for this are simple:

• A Handwritten adult blog is somewhere to send your surfer to make that sale.
• You control the content on your adult blog.
• You decide where to send your reader to (fhg, tour page, join page, or one of your other blogs/galleries/sales pages/sites).
• You control what pictures/video clips you post (so you can ‘tease’ your reader; rather than giving them something to jerk off to right there, they need to go to your sponsor).
• You decide the ‘voice’ you use to communicate with your readers (rather than some moron employed by a paysite who, in many cases, hasn’t a clue what to say or how best to say it).
• The search engines love unique text.
• A handwritten porn blog is both a communication tool and a series of mini sales pages. Even though your readers know you are selling to them, they still feel your blog is worth bookmarking, because you have taken time to consider them, rather than churning out the same old crap they have found on thousands of splogs out there.

However…

A good, handwritten adult blog takes an awful lot of hard work.

Even well-established blogs need updating at least once a month (and more frequently if readers have signed up for your RSS feed, or you want to make special promotion posts).

If you use Wordpress (as most people do) to make your porn blog, it will become heavy and lagging over time. All those text-rich posts, large pictures, niche specific pages, categories and tags, review pages, etc, may take ages to load. WP Super Cache is one answer to this, but it is not foolproof and can cause server issues. Nevertheless, it can be a useful tool.

Another way around the ‘heavy blog’ issue, is to use a different blogging platform. Many adult webmasters use Blogs Organizer for their handwritten porn blogs as well as for their splogs (I use this myself on some of my handwritten blogs). The blogs are light, the (purchased) themes are well-SEO’d and you can post to all your blogs from one central platform. But you cannot use tags and you need reasonably good html and css skills to get pages up and running, or to ‘tweak’ your themes to look professional. Plus you have to pay for the full version.

There are, however, many other blogging platforms out there, well-suited to handwritten porn blogs (and many not as ‘hackable’ as Wordpress, which requirres constant updating to secure it), which are well worth a try.

But, these issues aside, are there any other problems you may face when making handwritten adult blogs?

Adult Blog Content Must Be Relevant:

The many benefits of producing a handwritten porn blog will be lost if your content is not relevant. You can write reams and reams of ‘wordy text’, but if it is not relevant to your blog title/niche, you will be wasting your time.

Blogs, by their very nature, are personal and ‘chatty’, but you are writing adult blogs to make money so….

Your blog must be focused:

By all means (now and again) tell your readers about your day, but only if the text you uses says something about the picture/video you are showing. For example:

Poorly Written Adult Blog Text:

“Today I had an argument with my boss. The man’s a fucking idiot. Do you know what he said to me? yada yada…more ranting…yada yada…..and here is a picture of (name your babe) showing her pussy.”

More Focused Adult Blog Text:

“Man, I’m glad to be here with my sexy babes after the shitty day I had at work! Just as well I had this huge picture of (name your babe) showing her pussy to take to the john. Feasting my eyes on her lovely wet snatch was enough to raise my spirits!
“Fuck! I feel so much better now. Wouldn’t you?”

You get the general idea….

However….

Your adult blog can be as relevant to the SEs and as enticing to your readers as you can possible make it, but, if no one reads your hard-crafted work, then it has all been a gigantic waste of time.

The days of ‘build and they will come’ are long gone. Every day, thousands upon thousands of new adult blogs, galleries, free sites, etc are produced (not to mention the tubes…). How on earth can a porn surfer find your adult blog?

The following will help a lot:

On Site SEO:

• Have a keyword-relevant url (three words are usually best).
• Have a good (preferably longtail) keyworded title for your blog.
• Have a good keyword-relevant description.
• Use keywords, long tail keywords and synonyms in your posts (without making them too ’spammy’).
• Always ask yourself “What would a porn surfer be likely to type in to find this post?” And use that as your post title. Make it relevant and keyword/synonym rich.
• Have a Sub-Title In Bold (which is also relevant, but different keywords/synonyms) at the top of each post (have a look at the top of this post - see what I mean?).
• When you make a post about a subject you have mentioned before, link to it from the post you are making now. It not only provides the se spiders a relevant path to follow, it provides you with a second chance to sell this particular ’subject’ to your readers.
• Give your images good title tags and alt tags without making them spammy.
• Give your links good title tags.
• Use relevant keyword categories and tags for each post.
• End each blog entry with a relevant phrase (probably re-hashing, perhaps in a different format, the title) also in bold.

If you are making adult blogs on Wordpress, you can use these:

Wordpress On Site SEO Plugins:

• All In One SEO which makes your titles ’seo friendly’, plus you can manually and/or automatically assign meta tags to your blog and to individual posts and pages. (you can also use the ‘Title Tags’ plugin which some people prefer).
• Meta Robots Wordpress Plugin (helps you ‘nofollow’ duplicate posts made automatically by wordpress, and nofollows links to your admin pages etc) - As of 13th February 2009, the major search engines have (sort of…) agreed on a new system for assigning rank to duplicated content - the ‘canonical tag’. Yoast has produced a Canonical URL Links Plugin for this, which may eventually make Robots Meta obsolete - we can only wait and see…
• Google XML Sitemaps Generator. Gives you blog an xml sitemap for the spiders to follow (but best not to submit this to Google - wait until the spiders find you - they will). Other blogging platforms (Blogs Organizer for example) usually provide you with a Google XML sitemap as well).
• Dagon Design Sitemap Generator. One of the plugins I totally recommend, especially if you are blogging on your own version of Wordpress MU, where you cannot use the Google sitemap plugin. The sitemap produced by this plugin, not only makes it easy for your blog to be spidered by the search engines, it also provides a real sitemap for you readers to look at to find posts in particular categories.
• Simple Tags. Provides the ability to tag pages as well as posts, plus mass editting of tags and many more time saving, seo-friendly features.
• Yet Another Related Posts Plugin. Gives your posts inbound links - post to post - (via related titles, tags and categories), thus providing a helpful linking structure, not only for se spiders, but for your readers too. (you can also do this with Simple Tags also, but YARPP does appear to have more options).
• RSS Footer. When you make handwritten adult blogs (or mainstream blogs for that matter), however much you try to stop it, your RSS feeds are going to be scraped and put on other blogs. This plugin at least helps you get some backlinks, by adding a link to your blog and to your post, with the blog and post titles.
• Akismet. Un-moderated spam comments will not only make link juice leaks on your blog, they could even get you penalised for linking to ‘bad neighbourhoods’ (and no - Porn, if promoted correctly is not a bad neighbourhood). Akismet is the anti-spam plugin made by the wordpress people and still one of the best. It usually comes ready-installed in single packages of Wordpress, but you need to download it from the site if using WP MU.

There are other useful Wordpress plugins you can use, but this section is about On Site SEO. Too many plugins will make your wordpress blog ‘heavy’ and most of the plugins mentioned are not necessary if you are someone who is very good at ‘tweaking wordpress’, but for most of us they are a must have.

Off Site SEO:

You need Backlinks.

If you are making an adult blog which you want to rank high in the search engines for it’s particular niche terms, you must have backlinks.

People will tell you that ‘content is king’. It is certainly something Google promotes. They are right. But without good backlinks to your content it will be a long, long time before a large number of people find it.

One of the ways the search engines use to judge a site’s ‘popularity’ is on the number of good, relevant, incoming, one-way links it receives. Yes, you will get ranked for your content, but in the competitive world of SE traffic, you need those backlinks to stay ahead of those competing with you on the same search terms.

There is much more I can say about backlinks (and traffic in general), but that’s for another post. But for now, just think about:

• Social Bookmarking.
• Linking And Deep Linking from your other niche specific blogs/adult sites.
• Trading links for backlinks (not for traffic - for backlinks).
• Submitting your blog to adult porn directories.
• Building your own ‘network’.
• Even blog commenting (but be very careful here - this is a very new concept in the adult blogging world).
• Making sure you have ‘pinging’ turned on so that, with each new post, your blog pings the blog search directories.
• Submitting your blog’s RSS feed to feed directories (and even putting it on your own Yahoo and Google feed readers should help).

That’s quite a limited list, but there will be much more on Traffic and Backlinks soon.

But, what if you have tried all of these methods (and more) and you are still unable to make money from your adult blog?

Handwritten porn blogs take time, hard work, and patience (you can sometimes wait several months before they even begin to get the hits you think they deserve) and you need to get it right.

However, sometimes, you will do ‘all the right things’ and get traffic, but you will still not be able to sell sign ups from that particular blog. what do you do then?

You have to ask yourself a few questions:

• Are the sponsors you are promoting really any good, or is their content crap?
• Are there too many leaks on your sponsors’ tours (it happens quite a lot).
• Are your links working correctly? Check them out at the source and, if you think there is a problem, contact your affilliate rep.
• In fact, you should contact your affiliate reps in any case, to see if they can help you get more sales.
• Is the niche you are promoting not that appealing to your readers? Or is it (more likely) swamped with sites promoting the same stuff?

You could (and should) try:

• Looking at your stats. What are your surfers searching for? If you are not providing it (and it’s legal) go and get some content to sell.
• Promoting a different sponsor or two (which may well follow on from looking at your stats…).
• Looking at the set up of your blog - perhaps something simple like a new theme would help? Or perhaps you can get more interested visitors with a little more focused on site SEO.

If your handwritten adult blog is not selling as well as it should be (or at all), then there is really no harm in making changes, is there?

However, if none of these things work and your porn blog still doesn’t provide you with sales, Move On.

You can update now and again, no harm in that, and, in any case, it may be that eventually you will discover you are making sales from that blog. In that case, you can gently add a few more posts along the same lines (best not to disturb things too much ).

After all, if handwritten adult blogs are done right (and with luck, which is always a factor in making money online), you should have other porn blogs which do make you money.

Because, no matter what you may hear, making money from handwritten adult blogs can be very profitable.

Making Money With Adult Blogs

Many adult webmasters will tell you to ‘choose a niche to market that you like and know something about’ and this can be good advice. However, things do not always work out this way.

I recently found myself in the situation where some of my ’splogs’ had produced remarkably good sales (considering they are splogs) for a niche I know very little about. The niche in question is very good, and has a very loyal following, but even if I researched it via forums, blogs, sponsors, etc, for months on end (which is to be recommended), I probably never could get into the mindset (or the gender) to make constant blog posts about it.

But that niche is making porn site sales for me, and I figure it would make me a lot more money if I promoted it more effectively…

I could certainly Make some TGP2s, but there is another, very effective, way I have noticed which works well with this particular porn niche. And that is Building Freesites.

What Are Freesites?

If you look at my Porn Marketing Terms post, you will see that a Freesite consists of an index (warning) page (with some ‘adults only’ text), a page which introduces your galleries and has links to each one, and (usually) two gallery pages. Each gallery page will have thumbnails which link to around 12 (or more) full size images which are not on html.

Although the term ‘Freesite’ contains the word ‘free’ (and will contain a fairly large number of free porn pictures or videos), the basic premise behind the Freesite is to convince the porn surfer to go to your sponsor long before he/she opens those pictures or looks at the video clips.

This is why you will find (softcore) sponsor banners and ‘click here for free porn pictures’ type links above the fold on the warning page long before you find the link to the actual gallery pages.

A similarity between Freesites and TGP2s is the need for (and SEO value of) good, keyword rich and enticing text.

So the Free Site, like the TGP2, can remain in the search engines for a long time and is a long term measure for making money from porn.

There are many link lists where you can (and should) submit your Freesites. However, although I have built a couple of these, I have not submitted them, because, basically, the rules are very strict and can be quite complex.

In fact, building and submitting Free Sites is not (yet) something I have any real experience in.

But all is not lost!

Excellent Information On Building And Submitting Free Sites:

I have found an excellent article on How To Build Adult Freesites which goes into great detail about how to build a Freesite and make it acceptable to most major link lists. There is also a follow up article on How To Submit Your Freesite which takes you through the important steps and gives you a list of Free Site Directories to submit to.

These articles are so good, I will be following their instructions myself and, hopefully be able to post the results here (eventually….all this hard work takes time ).

I found the posts about Building And Submitting Free Sites on another adult webmaster blog. This one is called XXX Webmaster Help And Information. It is written by an adult webmaster who has quite a few years experience in making money from porn and contains loads of good information and links. I guess it might be kicking myself in the teeth to post his link here, but hey, it’s good stuff, and he appears to work in different niches than me (usually), so why not?

What I will say is, you may come across many people saying that Free Sites are finished as a way for making money from porn. Personally, I don’t believe it. I think there are certain types of site building that work for some adult webmasters (and some niches) where others do not.

Making Money From Porn - Free Sites

Many people who want to make money from porn think that the best way to go is to build galleries. They are surfers themselves and it is TGPs (Thumbnail Gallery Posts) they have discovered mostly along the way.

There are drawbacks however with making pages for normal TGPs. The main one is hosting costs. If you are a new adult webmaster, you probably can only afford limited shared hosting. Places like Hostgator and Servage are fine for building smaller sites and a limited number of adult blogs, but usually they will not work well at all with galleries.

When you submit a gallery to the major TGPs, not only will you be hosting around 16 large pictures (plus their thumbnails) on each page you submit, but a large number of hits on that gallery page will bring your hosting account down. You may be told that you have ‘unlimited bandwidth’, however, ‘use of resources’ is another thing which is in the small print on shared hosts, but a new adult webmaster may not find this out until he/she overuses resources. This can be achieved very easily with a few gallery submissions…

There is a way around this however…

Building TGP2s

TGP2s are like mini websites. A TGP2 will consist of the following:

A main (index) page containing thumbnail images (5 for pictures or 2 for video clips), a sponsor banner (or 2), some text (very important) about the images you are showing, a bottom link to the sponsor, plus their 2257 link, a copyright link for your site (the domain on which the TGP2 is hosted) and another link or two to your other sites or galleries (all also at the bottom of the page).

5 picture pages, (or 2 pages, each containing one video clip) each containing the full size image (or video clip) linked to from the thumbnail of that image on the main page. These pages are recommended to be on html (unlike the usual gallery pages where the image is not on html). The picture page can have a sponsor banner at the top and the big image (as it is on html) can link directly to the sponsor tour. The bottom of each page will contain the same (or similar) links to those at the bottom of the main page.

The index page and the picture/video pages should all have meta tags (description and keywords), and it certainly helps if they are at least a little different to each other.

Each picture (or video) page can have a separate title (relating to what is actually going on in that particular image/video).

As I said above, this gives you a mini site and all pages are spiderable by the SEs if you have different meta tags and title on each html page.

I’ll give you an example of a TGP2. This is Huge Boobs Mom With Foamy Tits. This is a fairly softcore TGP2 with big pictures of a BBW Milf in the shower, so click on it by all means if you like moms with enormous boobs

You will see that there is quite a bit of text on the main page to entice the surfer and the SE spiders. Ideally, all the thumbnail images should have shown completely ‘above the fold’, but the layout prevents this (although it does just ‘pass’ submission criteria nevertheless) and I would recommend using a slightly different layout (perhaps the 5 images in a row above most of the text) if you want to write a lot of text.

The advantages of TGP2s:

You only have to upload 5 big pictures (and 5 thumbnails) each time, so this is much easier on bandwidth.

TGP2s do not bring such heavy traffic all in one go. This may seem like a disadvantage, but it really isn’t, because TGP2s are much more likely to be picked up by the search engines than a normal gallery. They have a much better system of meta tagging and the text on the main page is good SE fodder too. TGP2 traffic is also likely to be more targetted than the usual gallery traffic, therefore more likely to get you that sale.

There is also the point that, once submitted to TGP2 directories and linked to from your own blogs/sites/other TGP2s, TGP2s remain in the search engines for longer and can usually pick up more traffic over time. The usual gallery has a very limited lifespan; the only limits to the life of a TGP2 are your hosting and that your sponsor’s site still exists (and this, of course, is no different from the risk you take with any method of marketing porn).

You can link to your TGP2s from your blog posts (just like you can to your sales pages) and you can link to individual pictures as well, thus providing more blog posts you can make over time and more links to your TGP2s. This also cuts down on the need for having so many affiliate links on your main blog.

Google image traffic is notorious for picking up gallery images. Having your big images on html with a link on the image to your sponsor provides you with more of a chance of getting a sale from that image search (and, of course, every little helps).

Unless you have very limited hosting, you can usually host your TGP2s quite happilly on cheaper web hosting. In fact, a host like Servage, which (I personally have found) works better with static pages than with blogs, is ideal for TGP2s - plenty of webspace for your images and hits coming over a longer period, rather than all at once, should not bring your site down.

The other good thing about TGP2s is that TGP2s contain limited free porn. Furthermore, it is recommended that your images be of the ‘teaser’ variety, rather than hardcore (although this is not always possible allowing for the content your sponsor provides). This means, that if your surfer wants to see the hardcore images (or more of them) he/she will have to go to your sponsor to find them. Of course, this all depends on the surfer and how good (or limited) your TGP2 content is, but it does give you more of a chance to make that sale.

The submission rules for TGP2s are more flexible that for the normal TGP submissions (or for freesites, which I’ll talk about soon) and provide you with more chances to link to your sponsor and to your other adult blogs/sites.

Once you have some basic templates for your TGP2s, you can use them again and again. In fact, even though each picture is on html, these ‘mini porn sites’ are very quick to make.

To give your TGP2s the initial ‘push’, you can make a blog post about them (and further posts later on), plus submit them to TGP2 directories.

There are a number of TGP2 directories out there and these can be found quite easily via Google search, but here is one to start you off. And have a look at some of the TGP2 galleries too, to see the different styles you can use.

Anyway, I hope you have found my post about building TGP2s useful. This is a long term way to make money from porn which can be very effective.

Making Money From Porn - TGP2s

Before I begin saying much at all here, one very important thing to remember is this:

Have Somewhere Specific For Your Surfer To Go!

This sounds rather obvious, but I see mistakes along this line every day (and was guilty of the same mistake myself when I began and still have many blogs ‘out there’ to show for that).

Too many adult bloggers and pornsite bulders keep on churning out material without thinking of the end result.

For example, many new adult webmasters build scores of blogs (often splogs) in a number of different porn niches. They link them all together. But the only place they have to send the surfer is to the sex site sponsor they have affiliate links for….or to their other blogs/sites.

What’s wrong with this method?

Well, you are giving the surfer too much choice.

Yes, you need to send the surfer to the pornsite through your affiliate link, but will he/she want to go there when you are offering them so much free porn along the way?

It’s a hit or miss affair at the very least. It may even confuse the surfer (does he want ebony, or latina, or big tits, or booty, or gay, or…? You get the general impression).

This is fine if you are making a Hub (I’ll look at that later), but if you are doing this on a niche specific blog, surely your surfer has arrived there because he/she is interested in that niche. Why confuse them?

By all means (if you are building a splog or feeder blog) have some links to your other blogs in the same niche in the sidebar and add a few ‘more porn’ links towards the bottom of your sidebar, but not too many. These latter links are for those surfers who have changed their minds and who you do not want to lose completely.

In my humble opinion, you would be better filling the spaces your sidebars with banners and text links to your niche specific sponsors and with other things to sell.

The other issue with Having Somewhere To Send The Porn Surfer To is to do with Landing Pages/Sales Pages.

If you are churning out new adult blogs daily and linking them all together, even if you are linking only to your other blogs in the same niche (I’ll discuss this in a later article too) for SEO/traffic purposes, you are sending the surfer around in a ‘circle jerk’ and you are still giving them too much free porn.

When you are building hundreds of ’splogs’ with this method, not only are you only offering the surfer something he/she has probably seen many times before, but you are cutting your chances for a sale.

Much better to have Somewhere Specific To Entice The Porn Surfer.

By all means build those splogs for traffic (and maybe even backlinks), but you need to have somewhere more than the porn site to send those surfers.

Landing Pages/Sales Pages:

In mainstream terms, these are usually called landing pages, but I’ll call them sales pages, as that is what they are all about (for me, anyway).

You will usually need access to adult hosting for this, or you may be able to set up a Squidoo lens or similar free hosting which allows adult (I go with my own hosting for this).

Build some Sales Pages. They can be one page or more (one is often best for this). Build a page or more for each of your sponsors, with good, keyword relevant but not spammy) sales text, a couple of pictures and a banner or two and send links from your splogs and your good blogs to these.

If, like me, you have trouble with css, there are many free templates you can find for this, or you can download a free program like NVU to make your own (even I can master this).

This is one of my early attempts at a sales page. Big Tits Curvy Asses Preview (hardcore by the way, so don’t look if you are easily offended). I have improved a little since then (slowly…). The page probably has far too many outgoing links to rank well with ‘big G’ (around 60, although most are ‘nofollowed’), but this is a sales page I can link to from the sidebar of every blog I make about Big Tits, because it is relevant (of course, I will only link to that page on individual posts if I am writing about that particular sponsor).

The page is also pretty garish. I don’t care. This is not about making a work of art, it’s about catching the surfer’s attention. The only ‘free porn’ on that page is in the pictures (and, I guess, the descriptions…). All links go to the sponsor tours, not to fhgs. Probably less pictures would have been better, but hey, it was almost my first attempt

If you are making a blog post about a particular sponsor, link to your sales page in the text. Not only will that be more ‘SE friendly’ than just sticking in an affiliate link, it will also give you a much better chance to market your porn than simply in a blog post.

Of course, you could instead build sales pages on your blog and if you have a good (ie; handwritten, good content) blog, that would be a pretty good way to do things. The only drawbacks with this method I can see are that (a) if you are using Wordpress, too many pages (along with blog posts) will eventually make your blog a bit heavy to load (especially as WP insists on making a new post every time you do an edit), (b) you may not (for various reasons…) want to link from one good blog to another this way, and (c) the template you are using may be too restrictive to make your sales page stand out.

Once you get to know your sponsors and their sites, it will be quite easy to come up with the relevant text for your sales pages. It could even cut down on the number of posts you have to make to your handwritten blogs (after all, how many times can you find different words for the same piece of ’sex action’?).

Making Money From Porn - Sales Pages

It has been over 18 months now since I began making adult blogs and sites. If you read some of my earlier posts, you will see that they act as notes to provide me with reminders of what I should be doing.

The article on Setting Up An Adult Blog is one example. Some of the info is still good, but some of it I do not use anymore. Submitting my blogs/sites to the search engines is the main one. Nowadays, I find it is better in the long run to wait for the search engines to find the new blog or site - you can do this by installing a site map, linking to your site/blog from an established one, setting up link trading, submitting (if you want to) to adult directories, or a number of other measures.

Plus, building adult blogs and sites to make money is, like all types of working on the internet, a competitive business. You can follow all of the ‘Google rules’, be as ‘white hat’ as you like, and still come unstuck (for instance, if someone has decided you are too much competition to them they can take you down in a flash if they know what they are about - believe me, I have suffered from this experience).

But having said all this (and if you are willing to take a risk - after all, making money from porn is always a risky business), then there are some things you can do which usually work and will get you sales. Some are blackhat, some are grey hat and a few are exactly what Google et al say will work best.

In the next posts, I will make a few suggestions as to Things You Can Do To Make Money From Porn, but remember, working on the internet is a dynamic process. What works one day may not work the next, and you can bet your bottom dollar that if you have just read ‘the best way to make money online’ thousands of others will have read the same article and will be trying out those same ‘tactics’. This will, given time, make them obsolete and you will need to move on to something else, or perhaps go back to using something which worked for you in the past.

In my previous post I looked at How To Make Money From Porn when Times Are Hard. Selling memberships to online sex sites takes hard work and determination, and when people are watching their every dollar you need to find ways to motivate them into buying.

So I thought I would share with you one of several little make money with porn schemes I am working on right now.

This is a new venture which I thought up in the shower the other morning. It seemed like a laugh, but who knows, it could sell!

I have no idea yet whether this will work and make me money. The adult blog is brand new and I am only just beginning to build links for it. But it’s worth a try and it didn’t take very long at all to set up, with the help of the magic of FeedWordpress.

A static page would probably have worked just as well for a small project like this, especially with some good anchor text backlinks and it’s something I am persuing for a similar scheme.

Either way, we’ll see if it works over the coming months as another little way to make money selling porn during a recession.

Make Money Selling Porn On A Budget

This is a time when everyone is watching their cash, or perhaps wondering where their next dollar is going to come from. So you will be wondering whether now is the right time to make money from selling porn on the Internet.

First, I have to say that it is harder to make a living selling sex site memberships today than it was even a year ago. But it is still possible, as long as you work at it and explore all angles.

I am not the most experienced adult webmaster in the World by a long way, but I have been selling this stuff long enough to have learned that sex sells, even in a recession. And sellng porn is still one of the best ways to make a living online. If you work hard at it.

People will tell you that people cannot afford to buy memberships to online sex sites today, but stop and think about this one moment.

Most of us have had hard times at one point or another. Have we always reacted ’smart’ to this? Have we always scrimped and saved and never spent our money on any ‘little pleasures’? Unless it has been a case of not having a cent for the next meal for our kids, I bet most of us have ’splashed out’ on something we really felt we shouldn’t have; just to make life seem more tolerable.

Paying for a membership of an online sex site really isn’t that expensive. In fact, there are so many ‘one dollar trials’ today that anyone can get some porn pretty quickly just by registering their credit card. Of course, the idea is that the surfer will ‘forget’ and not cancel on time to be hit with a monthly fee, but even monthly fees are pretty damn reasonable, considering all that’s offered and, in any case, many surfers are smarter than that and will take their ‘1 dollar trial’ and then cancel that card.

Either way, on a Pay Per Signup basis, you will get paid for that sale. It is your job to get the surfer to the sponsor. After that, it is up to the porn sponsor to entice him into staying there and the best sponsors, with decent content, are very good at doing that. And so they should be - that is their job after all.

Revshare is, of course, a different matter. If your surfer makes a chargeback, you will lose all of your commission on that sale. Nevertheless, I still think personally that if you are working a good niche, with plenty to offer that the surfer cannot get elsewhere, revshare is still a viable option. But I think (and again, this is my personal view only) that when times are hard you have to choose those revshare niches with care that comes with experience of the sponsor’s content and how you find revshare with him or her is working for you.

So: How To Make Money From Porn During A Recession:

First of all, the usual rules apply. You just have to work even harder at them.

• You have to be prepared to work very, very hard.
• You have to want to learn and continue to learn.
• You have to be able to be aware of changing trends and adapt to them (or even be ahead of them).
• You have to ask questions of other adult webmasters. You can hide away reading webmaster boards and try to learn from the host of different advice given and you will learn a lot. But at some point, you will find your head full of so much conflicting information that (as well as testing it out yourself) you will have to ask questions to clarify these points in your head.
• If you make these questions specific, you will get good advice and, also very important, you will make friends along the way. Which leads me onto my next point:
• It is very hard to go it alone in any internet marketing work. It is almost impossible to do this when selling porn. You may need people to trade with and you will want to check them out with others.
• You will definitely need to develop a team of people you can trust (if only a little), so that you can email them or send them messages via ICQ, when you do not want to post all your details on a webmaster board.
• And when things get tough (see more about this below), it is good to share these times with someone who has ‘been there’ (we all have). You will not feel all alone then and that is important too.
• When times are hard for surfers, you have to assure your surfers they are getting good value for money. They may have been quite happy to spend 30 dollars or so on joining a site just to test it out before the recession. Now many of them will want to be assured that their hard earned cash will be spent wisely. That’s where you come in. You need to emphasise the quality content your sponsor has; the extras he/she is offering them; the ’special offers for this week only’ so many of them push, and so on. You have to think like a hard-up surfer and ask yourself, “why would I sign up for this sponsor?” and work on that. These are basic facts for any time, but during a recession, you cannot make money without considering them.
• Don’t make the mistake of offering too much ‘free porn’. I made that mistake at the beginning and I guess most of us did. But ‘free’ is very difficult to sell; that content would have to be extra special to convince an ardent ‘free surfer’ to part with his cash. Better be upfront and say you are promoting quality content which is unmissable and very good value for money, because the ‘free’ links may bring you loads of surfers, but all you will ‘gain’ is high bandwidth usage (which will cost you) and hardly any sales.
• Despite what some will tell you, you have to ‘think out of the box‘. This doesn’t mean going off half-cocked on some scheme you think will make you oodles of cash, when chances are, it won’t. If you have a ’scheme’ like this, by all means try it out, but don’t spend lots of money on it or a great deal of time, unless after testing it out you find it to be working. The idea is to think ahead and use the above methods to work any new scheme. The best way is to go with what is already working for you and then ask yourself “how can I do this a little differently? Are there any other skills/tools I already have which I could put to this use?”

One thing you will find, as you try to make money from porn during a recession, is that the extra hard work involved will get to you. The vast majority of adult webmasters experience ‘burnout’. In this business you work long, odd hours and. although I would definitely advise taking breaks for exercise and fresh air, eating healthily, etc, it is the sad truth that most of us give scant regard to this when we are busily involved in earning a living online. The result is that we all, at some point or another, experience ‘burnout. Many will suffer this at regular intervals and just see it as part of the job.

So, what do you do about webmaster burnout?

You take a break. Simple as that. All that porn will still be out there for you to sell when you get back; all those blogs, sites and galleries you put online are still out there. True, some of them may not be getting as many clickthroughs as you get from submitting them every day, but if you have worked on your SEO strategies they will still be spidered and still getting hits and you will still be making sales. The recession seems like it’s in for the long haul, so there is no point in trying to beat it. Just go with your body’s instincts to rest. If you don’t, then basically you will be no good to anyone when you are an exhausted, gibbering wreck.

In my experience of ‘burnout’ (and I get it fairly regularly - about once every three months or so), when I take that break, it takes all of the first week to get all the stuff I am working on out of my head. It is only by the second week I can relax enough to take a walk, go to the gym, or sit and watch tv without constantly thinking of what I ’should’ be doing. But it does pay off. By the third week I am fitter and ready to go and again able to work hard and fast.

We all ‘rest’ in different ways. That is just what works for me. I long ago got over the fear that “I may not want to return after a break”. That feeling goes once you realise all you needed was some space to relax.

And don’t forget that Being An Adult Webmaster Is A Real Job. So treat it that way. If you worked somewhere nine-to-five (or whatever), you would have to take holidays and the job would still be there when you got back. It works the same way when you are selling porn, even during a recession.

Thumbnail Gallery Pages and TGP Submissions:

Many in the adult webmaster business will tell you that the ‘good old days’ of making lots of money from Porn by building Thumbnail Galleries are long gone and I guess they are right. Nevertheless, there is still money to be made out of submitting Gallery Pages (picture or movie clips) to TGPs (thumbnail gallery posts - link sites for thumbnail galleries), but there are also drawbacks for the newbie adult webmaster.

If you like the idea of making galleries every day and can perfect the technique so that your gallery pages are clean, attractive to the surfer, and well accepted by as many TGP sites as possible (and you learn how to stick to their rules), you can still make money by building thumbnail galleries.

If you would like to have a try at this, go to The Hun and click on the links to some of the Galleries there. If you think you could do as well (and make them very, very regularly - like all aspects of being an adult webmaster, this will take hard work), then this can still make you money. However, before you begin, I hope you have checked out adult forums for Thumbnail Gallery and TGP tutorials and suggestions on making templates, submissions scripts, etc (do a search at Netpond to begin with. It’s always a good place to start).

As for myself, I have tried making a few galleries and submitting them by hand, but it is not for me. I prefer writing more and I prefer building surfer hits more slowly (massive gallery hits are short-lived and to be successful the formula has to be constantly repeated) and you will see why I prefer building hits on a slower basis below. But I can see the attraction in making gallery submissions (and perhaps your own full TGPs - although this takes a great deal more work and relies heavily on making many good link trades). Pictures and Videos still attract and can stir the libido much faster than text in many (usually male) cases. The growth in popularity of tube sites tells us something - search engines love text, but surfers still love visual and (perhaps preferably) moving images. The winning factor appears to be combining the two and, most importantly, ensuring you get those links coming in.

The downside about Gallery Submissions and TGPs (apart from all the hard work of course)? A well linked Gallery Post will get you thousands upon thousands of visitors en masse. If you submit to one of the biggies, like The Hun, and are successful, you may suddenly find your little gallery (or hopefully galleries) being inundated with surfers.

“This is good.” I hear you say. Well, in one way it is, because you will usually need thousands of hits to make a sale this way, so the more hits you receive, the more money you should make. But, you will need adequate hosting to soak up all those sudden hits. If, for instance, you have a shared account on Hostgator, your site will be taken offline, because all those sudden hits will be eating up all the server resources for those who share your IP address.

Many cheap hosts, including Hostgator, are great for starting out with adult blogs and possibly static sites, and I recommend them for newbie adult webmasters starting to make money online, but as soon as you build galleries, free sites, static sites, or even blogs which get thousands of hits in a short space of time, you will have to invest in at least semi-dedicated hosting, or a host which allows for short duration, hard hitting pages (like newly-submitted galleries) and has hosting accounts which cater for this (I believe Naked Hosting offers this, although I am yet to try them out myself) . So think about that when you make and submit your galleries.

Therefore, with Thumbnail Gallery Pages and buiding your own TGP sites you have to weigh up these factors:

• Are you going to be able to submit at least 2 new Galleries a day? (probably quite a few more - but not all to the Hun, by the way as that is every 3 or 4 days at most) Are you interested enough in this aspect of making money from porn that you will be prepared for all the hard and constant, repetative work involved? If the answer is yes, then you need to think about:
• Will your website hosting be adequate for your requirements? (And most TGPs refuse submissions from free hosts - although sponsor free hosting, using your own domain name, is something to think about here).
• Will the outlay, for sufficient hosting plus (as you progress), the submissions tools and TGP scripts, be worth it in terms of the return you think you can achieve?

If you can honestly answer “Yes” to those questions, then making thumbnail galleries and your own TGPs will make money for you if you do it right. It will not be as much money as you could have made a few years ago, but there again, that applies to many forms of work online, not only adult.

The other proviso I would add here is, make those galleries by all means, but watch trends very carefully and adapt your galleries to fit them. This will also give you ideas for other ways to make money from porn and maybe use those galleries as part of a larger project of your own design (not just your own large TGP).

Thinking ‘out of the box’ is the most successful thing you can do when making money from porn. Work with something; learn from it; and adapt it to suit changing trends and surfer requirements.

When you see many adult webmasters telling you that ‘TGPs are dead”, but you still see them making galleries and submitting them, ask yourself why. Are they really stuck in a rut, or have they found another way of using them which works better, so that they still make good money from porn?

Making Money From Porn With TGPs

In my last entry, I showed that there are many different ways to make money from porn. However, most of us will probably be looking to sell memberships to online sex sites, rather than writing adult content, building adult websites to sell, or any of the other ideas mentioned. In which case, browsing the advice given in adult webmaster forums and turorials will be invaluable to us.

However, the first thing we find in those forums is a host of differing advice and opinions. Some of the advice given may be intentionally misleading (some adult webmasters do not want newbies to succeed; they see this as less cash to go around). Nevertheless, most of the information will be sincere, but based upon the webmaster’s own experience of what makes money for him or her. And this will differ by individual adult webmaster. What works for one person, may work for another, but then again, they may simply fail at using the same method, because it is not inline with their particular likes, dislikes and skills.

Here are a few things you will be told:

• TGPs are finished/TGPs will bring you lots of hits.
• Free Sites are a thing of the past and a waste of time/Free Sites can be an ideal starting place for making money from porn.
• Static Sites will not make you any money/Static Sites are the best for making money.
• Porn Portals provide too much free porn for the surfer to lcik on a sponsor link/Porn Portals are an ideal way to keep surfers within your ‘porn empire’.
• Adult Blogging is the only way to make real money from porn/Adult Blogging is not the only way to make money and can be a waste of time.
• Splogs are vital/good/bad/a waste of time/an insult to real adult webmasters.
• You should make your site as bookmarkable as possible or encourage subscribers to sign up for your blog’s RSS feed/Regular subscribers do not sign up with sponsors, they just want free daily porn.
• You have to know html, css, php, web design, as an expert/you can get away with only a basic knowledge of web design.
• Do not use free hosting/use free hosting as much as possible.
• Do not use cheap hosting/cheap hosting is ideal for starting out.
• Do not use the same IP address for all of your sites/blogs/splogs/tgps…
• You must submit to directories/directories steal your traffic.
• Link Trades are vital for getting backlinks/Link Trades will steal/skim your traffic.
• Concentrate on Specific Micro Niches/Concentrate on best selling niches.
• Entice your surfers with big pictures/use thumbnails only do the surfer has to click to the sponsor to see the rest.
• Use softcore images only/hardcore but limited in time/size of image works best.
• Free Porn will kill the adult market/Use Free Porn to your advantage.
• The Adult Market is dead or dying/there is still plenty of money to be made from porn.

And so on…..

You will see that, apart from the question of using different IP addresses (which I strongly believe - from experience - to be important), I have used some of the pros and cons from each side of the debate.

The truth, I believe, is somewhere in the middle.

And it all depends on you and how you use your skills and apply your knowledge of the adult industry and of yourself to make money from porn.

Ways To Make Money Selling Porn Online

When you start out as an adult webmaster, you will, hopefully, browse plenty of Adult Webmaster Boards to look for advice and tutorials. You may, like me, just jump right in and learn as you go along, but it’s probably better to learn a little more first. That way you may not make as many ‘newbie mistakes’ (but we all make a few, regardless…).

Either way, you have to begin somewhere and after you have found all that advice and tried some (or even most) of it out, you will probably end up totally confused! But at the same time, if you have studied carefully, you will have discovered that there are still very many different ways to make money from porn.

So one of the first things to ask yourself is:

“What am I good at and what am I not very good at?”

Writing Adult Content: I am good at writing text. I can write reams and reams of hardcore prose if required and it does make me money if linked well to a particular sponsor. One of the things which also brings me in some extra cash is writing adult content for other webmasters. It doesn’t pay that much, but it’s a pretty regular source of income, as many adult site owners and bloggers are crying out for good written content.

Other adult webmasters are not so good at writing. No big deal. However, having a reasonable command of English - or of the language you wish to market porn in - will certainly help. Search engines spiders require text, but the key factor here is relevant text (text which fits the porn niche you are promoting and the keywords and meta tags you are using - you can write thousands of words on your blog or site, but if they are not relevant to your niche, you will most likely be wasting your time). You can find text already produced by porn site owners at any good sponsor gallery. The key here is to re-arrange this text so it is unique to your post (and still contains a reasonable - but not over-stuffed - proportion of relevant keywords) and your text writing problems are solved.

Graphic Skills: You may have excellent graphic skills and be able to make your own gallery and blog headers which entice even the most ‘banner blind’ surfer to click on your sponsor link. In this case, not only will you have a distinct advantage over most of us, but you could also make some extra money out of your skill, by making headers and selling them to other adult webmasters. The only proviso here, for using them yourself, is you do still need text for the search engine spiders, otherwise the surfers turned on to your sponsor by your graphics will not be able to find you on the search pages in the first place. But once on your pages, those good graphic skills can still stand you in good stead.

Website Design: Perhaps you have a very good knowledge of html, css and php and know how to apply them well. We all need a basic knowledge of these, just to insert images and links in our text and to make our sites and blogs a little more unique, but some people excel at website design. Again, you can use these skills to provide other adult webmasters with the basics they require (adult blog themes, gallery themes, etc), but either cannot do well themselves, or prefer to pay someone else to make for them.

Website Applications: Likewise, an understanding of website development applications is a skill which can earn you good money from porn. Most adult webmasters require a multitude of tools to get the job done efficiently. Automatic blogging applications, porn sponsor gallery ’scrapers’, automatic gallery submitters and link list submitters are just a few of the appications required. There are some good tools out there already, but the market for these is not saturated as yet and if you have the skills to produce any of these or other appications which work well with porn, you will still be able to make good money from this.

Adult Website Flipping: Site and blog ‘flipping’ is still in its relative infancy. The idea is to build a blog or website so that it is completely ready to use and then sell it somewhere like Sitepoint or Digitalpoint (or even eBay, but this is usually less well-favoured and can provide problems with Paypal). Many adult webmasters (particularly those who have only a limited knowledge of css and php) are willing to pay a reasonable price to purchase a ‘ready to use adult website’, rather than do all of the basic setting up work themselves. A brand new adult website will not fetch very much money (as it will probably not even be in the search engines yet). The going rate for a ‘turnkey’ site can be anything from 20 to 500 dollars and will very much depend on how you market it and how well it is set up, but this is a growing business which you may like to consider, particularly if you prefer building adult websites to keeping them updated.
