Fired, terminated, your services are no longer needed, axed, canned... however you word it, it isn't a good feeling. Your heart kind of sinks, doesn't it? Well, I just recently felt that a moment ago when I received an email that my contract has ended. It's a shame to, because the work wasn't bad, but that's not going to keep me down for long.

In another post I talked about how Extra Work Comes In Handy and sure enough I will be bucking down and gathering the work that I had on the back-burner and start working them again. I will also have to start looking for other work that may help raise my income as the one that I just lost had. I know things are a bit slow around this time and normally I can score something decent during the summer months, but hopefully I will be able to find something a little sooner.

National Fun At Work Day

Just because you work from home, doesn't mean you can't have a little fun, right? I work on my laptop most of the day and most of my work is done online so I usually listen to music as I plug along. Of course, if you do customer service work or any other work that you have to be on the phones, then this may not work for you. If you do have to talk with clients on the phone, an idea to pass the time between calls could be add a little basketball hoop on the wall or near the door if you are close to it and toss a nerf ball making baskets. You could also balls of paper in the waste basket if you don't have a basketball hoop. If you are artistic, perhaps you could make doodle drawings on pieces of paper.

Klat is searching for bloggers to write on hundreds of community sites covering a wide range of topics. We are looking for bloggers to write casual blog posts of about 250 words. Initially, each writer is assigned a number of sites and will be asked to write 2-4 posts per month on those sites. Being Sick and Working From Home

Working from home can give you the flexibility of doing work when you are able to, depending on what company you may be working for. So when you come across the flu or a slight cold you really don't have to worry about having to call in sick and maybe putting others in a pinch of your absence. You are able to stay at home and get yourself well. This can be a pro and a con to being an independent contractor because, yes you have that option as you would with an outside job, but sometimes you may have that mindset of still working because of that flexibility.

For example, in one of my evening classes that I take during the week, the classroom was unusually cold and when I got home I knew for sure that I was getting a cold from it. The next day, I didn't feel well, but still tried to work. The cold defeated me, so I had to lay down and rest. Again today, I did the same thing, just worked a little and went to lay down to rest before picking up the kids from school. Because my online work is really flexible and I don't have to call in, I can just take the time off, although because I don't get "sick pay" I am loosing income for the time I don't work. I'm not one to get sick very often, but I have learned to rest when I do.

For those who work from home, are you able to take the time off to get your rest when you need to? Or whether if you are taking care of yourself or another ill relative, do you work in a position where you are not able to take the time off or can't take the time off because you have to make the income?

Finding work from home positions can be found, but are you using the correct keywords to find those diamonds in the rough? Of course the phrase "work from home" or "work at home" will bring you an unlimited amount of searches, but also can lead you to some scams. Listed below are some keywords that you can plug into the search engine or even on job websites such as Monster.com to get better results.

independent contractor
virtual
remote
1099
telecommute
virtual position
freelance
home office
home-based
remote workers
virtual assistant

You can also use some of the keywords in conjunction with a position that you are specifically looking for. The difference is that you would use quotes around the words. Some examples would be:

"telecommute graphic designer"
"freelance writer"
"work from home customer service"
"remote transcription"
