Apple patents hybrid LCD, e-paper displays for phones and tablets

2011-04-17T01:19:00.000-07:00

One of the common complaints of people, the love of the Amazon Kindle and similar e reader for the iPad collected is that high-contrast e-paper displays in light, also in the open, with less strain on the eyes and glare can be read with a LCD to receive. E-Paper display fans tout the much longer life of the battery of devices like the Kindle on the LCD-based tablets because much less power is required, run the e-paper displays.

Apple has apparently heard these complaints, and a patent recently revealed has to be a way, filing a hybrid or combination of e-paper and LCD display: one that could change mobile devices and tablets, if it works well. The patent is "systems and methods for switching between electronic paper display and a video display", and behind the lingo technology is segments, the one day of can allow, or an entire device screen between e-paper mode and LCD mode switch.

In accordance with the patent application, the system would work, by a thin, almost transparent electronic paper screen on the LCD display, but with the capacitive touch-sensitive Panel. This way, if the user want to toggle of the e-paper mode, the backlight for the LCD, which is on the bottom just below or off turns and the only thing on the screen that the user sees is the e-paper display. If the user would like to bring back the screen a video or colour play, will switch the LCD mode stop current to the e-paper layer and bring the LCD backlight.

Implementation of the two displays in layers like this would be probably a little thicker devices, but may not be of - which is make little of the depth of the most mobile devices, especially when compared with the battery. What a problem may however is the battery life: Although e-paper displays less power than conventional LCDs use, can the switch on the Act and dimming the battery life of such devices which for the LCD backlight.

Apple allegedly for the patent way back in 2009 submitted and the submission right now makes public. This not necessarily there is means a new product on the way, but it means, that Apple will let the public (and its competitors) know that it works on the way, both technologies carry if its bring possible and cost-effective. Where the technology real we could find very soon people for a iPad, which works if you wish, but to change such as a tablet in the e-reader mode lined up if you are outdoors in the Park.

Apple AirPlay of private key revealed, could to AirPlay compatible applications

2011-04-16T12:25:00.000-07:00

Apple's AirPlay technology was developed, a secure wireless way, audio or video over wireless networks between devices and peripherals transmitted: from your Mac to your TV or your iPad on your stereo system, for example. The technology is proprietary, and you have working with Apple, your device on the list of AirPlay compatible devices to get. Until now. Developer James Laird has managed to reverse engineering of the Airport Express private key, which means that with him, each device set can, an AirPlay compatible device.

Apple has fairly tight control over the technology up to this point, only compatibility work with a handful of commercial partners AirPlay in their home sound or record video equipment. We wanted a way to stream audio or video of the device iOS or a home theater PC, TV or stereo system, had to your Mac you use another technology as a whole such as DLNA, or a 3rd party solutions, to send and receive media DLNA or use their own client/server applications.

The fact that is the Airport Express of private key in the wild means, that someone can create a device or application, the iTunes can stream media to directly, without the technology work with Apple first to develop. Apple can always the private key change, but the work required, to the firmware, some components of the software update as many Apple devices making unattractive it at least for now.

In the meantime, the button can à ' ffentlich third-party developers to create their own applications that work with AirPlay. It is unlikely, that compatible devices is build hardware partners such as JBL, Denon, and iHome AirPlay without working with Apple: they already have agreements with Apple, licensing the technology, as well as advertising rights to market their devices based on AirPlay compatibility. Other manufacturers are likely to the official line go, only to the up-and-up remain in Apple changes.

The most people interested in the key application developers will, by third-party AirPlay would like to add compatibility to their list of the features home theater and media-streaming Suites such as they. Developer behind apps like VLC, XBMC, plex, and Boxee are all likely love the ability to claim that you can stream media from your iPad or iPhone directly to a set-top box or computer with their home-theater-suite.

How quickly this new applications come to market remains to be seen, but Laird has already created an Airport Express emulator, called Shareport, that the development community shows what is possible with the key. He was also the key to the VLC developers mailing list, if someone wanted a head start.

Apple experiment with Wi-Fi iPod synchronization

2011-04-15T20:37:00.000-07:00

Yesterday, we reported that Apple safe key had made housing for the future of his material. Kevin Kenney, a carbon fiber expert and inventor of a reinforced device housing of Apple, patented was a full-time employee in Cupertino.

We thought this was simply that Apple aluminium, steel and glass housing on iDevices with one could replace carbon fibre alternative. In this way the strength remains, but the weight falls significantly. But that's not the whole story.

Cult of Mac, from a source, said that the move supported also with Wi Fi connections in carbon fiber. Steve Jobs has been urging more specifically, apparently for a few years, that remove the need for a USB connection, if a sync iPod. Instead, he wants wireless synchronization in the place of a Wi-Fi connection.

For the iPod owner would that synchronize your device if you need to be made at home without a physical connection to your Mac or PC. She could just plug in your device charge to know that it will automatically transfer all your music, videos, and apps.

It is a nice idea, but has an Apple fight to perfect. Metal and glass housing caused a reliable signal problems with the Administration, but there are also concerns about battery life due to the additional power for the Wi-Fi connection required. Therefore not it now in all Apple devices, even those who still appeared already wireless functions.

If carbon-fiber casing is the last piece of the puzzle, though, this means that the next iteration of the iPod wireless connectivity as a standard for the wireless synchronization can contain. This same system would also have the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad port on how all three devices already have wireless connectivity as standard.

New Apple says patent Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 compatible iPhones come

2011-04-15T05:17:00.000-07:00

Over a month ago, Apple has their latest interface port, Thunderbolt. Previously called LightPeak, the standard interface from the DisplayPort technology built and to the consolidation of USB, display, audio and networking cable in a Superport Meanwhile with superior speeds to even USB 3.0.

Rather, only Apple's MacBook Pro now supports Thunderbolt, but clearly they expect for the format out. What will help take off in the long term Thunderbolt is an in-demand gadget supports Thunderbolt… and it is easy to see if Apple their line-up of iDevices to synchronize with Thunderbolt allowed it a very reason for end users would be to update.

You can say the same thing for USB 3.0 that matter? Backups and synchronization take a long time iOS device. So when I start Apple roll out iPhones that is compatible with the thunderbolt and USB 3.0? A new Apple patent can give us an indication.

Apple's patent for a "reduced size Milti plug-plug" is and great describes a smaller 30-pin dock connector, but within the text of the patent, there is explicit mention of the new support in the iPod dock connector for new transmission technologies.

The patent filing read "Some embodiments of the present invention one or more new high-speed communication standards can support," then goes on to quote USB 3.0, and DisplayPort as examples of these standards.

Where Thunderbolt, then? Now, this patent for 2009 was filed while Thunderbolt was only a spark in Apple's eye. However, it is worth noting that DisplayPort on Apple and Intel Thunderbolt built the technology, so there is nothing stop Apple from using this patent inform future iOS dock connectors that are compatible to USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt. And trust you, they will.

May Apple and toys 'R' US justify opening the sale at Toys "R" US stores, because the iPad could be seen as an another gaming device. However, if I have a 10-year-old riding of the u-Bahn with their very own iPad 2 see am while I need still to go, to get one for me, I will be very angry.

With 3D HDTVs rising in popularity, many people are intrigued about owning a 3D device, but some just don’t want to pay the extra $150 per pair of 3D glasses. Owners of the iPad 2, however, may be happy to know that glasses-free 3D capabilities may be on the way for the new tablet, thanks to the addition of a front-facing camera in the second generation iPad.

Researchers in France’s Engineering Human-Computer Interaction Research Group have developed a hack for the iPad 2 that they call Head-Coupling Perspective, which can track the position and movements of a person’s head in 3D. But the 3D image the user sees doesn’t actually come out of the screen like most 3D images seem to do. Instead, it stretches back into the screen.

Working in a similar way to the Nintendo 3DS, but reminding us more of the DS game Rittai Kakushi e Attakoreda, it’s basically a 3D representation on a 2D screen that follows you as you move. According to the EHCI site, researches used “off-axis projection to adapt the perspective of the 3D scene.”

The EHCI research group primarily works with the software aspects of Human-Computer Interaction. The groups mission is to define new concepts, models, and software tools in order to design, implement, and evaluate interaction techniques that are “effective, usable, and enjoyable.”

Though it’s only a tech demo right now, it could easily become a full-fledged iOS app in the future. It works with any Apple device with a front-facing camera, which means it also works with the iPhone 4.

Is Apple carbon fiber experts, strong lightweight housing coming?

2011-04-13T05:05:00.000-07:00

Apple his devices from year to year is created, we see change materials used in their manufacture. For the housing around the hardware in an iDevice, glass, steel and aluminium were favorites of late, but the last safe at the company proposes a modern material could be iPad 3 or iPhone 5 environment and beyond.

Kevin Kenney has been working for many years with carbon fiber and use it to make light and very strong bikes for Kestrel bicycles. Carbon fiber is in fact, used in many sports, especially formula one for the body on the cars is desirable.

Kenney worked with Apple in the past, but now a full-time bear the title of senior composite engineer. Such safe suggests that Apple will use a new material in their devices and with Kenney's background and experience is looking for that material, seems to carbon fiber.

If you have followed Apple closely in recent years this may come as no surprise. In May 2009, a patent for an enhanced device was material submitted housing with a "fiber in matrix" by Kenney. Is this patent to the inventor Kenney, but the assignee is Apple Inc.

This is, if Apple gadget fans start carbon should always because of the benefits fiber excited as material offers. It very thin fibers of carbon graphite twisted together thousands form a very hard tissue or in combination with plastic a shiny, hard surface ideal consists for housing.

As well as very strong, carbon fiber is incredibly easy and has low thermal expansion. It is therefore generally highly desirable as a material, but perfectly for a device that protection has needs production heat, while must be the internal components at the same time as easy as possible for portable.

While we have no information from Apple, is the evidence of the company with carbon fiber and increase in which research and development is now could be delivered to iPhone 5 and IOS 3 first devices with it in any way.

Verizon Wireless tops AT & T iPhone 4 survey

2011-04-12T12:01:00.001-07:00

One thing predictable about Verizon Wireless was getting an iPhone was, that people would be quickly compare to the iPhone experience to Verizon, which just that in their survey of 4,068 consumers want to have from AT & t. ChangeWave research, on 28 March, the satisfaction of the customers include, dropped rates and future iPhone 4 customers would choose which carrier, if in the market for Apple's latest Smartphone.

If it said the respondents to customer satisfaction, 82% they were very satisfied with Verizon Wireless when compared to AT & T numbers only something were lower at 80%. ChangeWave points out, can the customer satisfaction for Verizon Wireless customers change how your network can join more iPhone owners have the effect of lead stress on their current infrastructure and reduced customer satisfaction. In view of the bad press around dropped for AT & T, it was a little surprising to see, the carrier in a virtual neck and neck race with Verizon Wireless in terms of satisfaction. Unfortunately, it seems in the search for AT & T on the actual numbers to dropped calls, that some of the bad press can have justified.

As March, participants to the survey reported a dropped call rate in the last 90 days of 1.8% with the Verizon iPhone 4 to the AT & T iPhone 4, which came to 4.8%. Back in September 2008, that entire dropped call were percentages between the institutions much closer, but since then a total tariffs for AT & T were continuously increased during Verizon's to a record low in March at 1.4% compared to the AT & T to 4.6%.

AT & T is currently on track, to improve your deleted called rate considering that is a 4.6% improvement from the 4.7% reported in the December 2010 and the 6% is reported in September 2010. Although improvement was AT & T's rate dropped tariffs from T-Mobile and Sprint were still significantly higher than the reported that 2.3% and 2.7% or.

In the measurement of the wireless service provider, 4 buyers would use future iPhone, Verizon Wireless was a clear winner at 46% compared to 27% for AT & T. How AT & T has a choice, but some apparently still the potential to draw customers swing their opportunities whereas 27% do not know or was the choice of another carrier.

iPhone Manufacturer Swings To Loss, Looks To Cut Costs.

Outsourced manufacturing is a simple game. Find a country with a low-standard of living and a lot of people. Build your products there. When things get better, repeat. The big question now: where do you go when the labor costs start to rise in the most populous country on Earth? Further east, apparently.
The Chinese contract manufacturer who builds Apple’s handsets is looking to cut costs by shifting its production to lower cost areas in China after reporting a larger than expected loss on falling sales. One problem: while Apple’s iPhone is selling well, many of Foxconn’s other clients are locked in no win battles for market share.
As a result, Foxconn International Holdings reported a net loss of $218.3 million for 2010, compared to net income of $38.6 million in 2009.
Sales fell 8.2% to $6.6 billion from $7.2 billion over the same period.
The solution: cost cutting.
In a statement, the company pledged to expand operations in Langfang, Beijing, and Tianjin, while “reducting our exposure in higher cost areas.”

The iPhone 4- What You Must Know First

2011-04-02T07:31:00.001-07:00

While the iPhone 4 is wildly popular right now, you still need to research it or any device you are thinking of buying. All products require a commitment, so make sure you know what you are getting into with all purchases. Only you can decide if all of the qualities of the iPhone 4 are what you need. Here is what you need to know about the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 4 has what is called a retina display. This is a high resolution screen with a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch. This density is not a far cry from that of the iPad. But then again, the iPhone's screen is a lot smaller than the iPad's screen.
What this means is that everything will be bright and clear on your iPhone, from names and phone numbers to photos and web pages to movies you watch. Not only will this be much simpler on your eyes, but it will not be as cumbersome to navigate through the various menus and use the different apps that the iPhone 4 has.
Your iPhone 4 acts as a GPS device, which can be very useful when you're driving, or even walking in an unfamiliar area. By using cell towers, GPS and even Wi-Fi, your iPhone will be able to pinpoint your exact location and even update as you move. There is also the option of downloading other GPS tools from the App Store, like Magellan Roadmate, that can give you 3D images of buildings and even spoken directions. Your iPhone 4, then, can be a useful tool in helping you navigate as you travel.
Surely you've heard by now that, for the first time, Verizon will be providing service for the iPhone. In the past, it used to be just AT&T, which a lot of people agreed was one of the least liked features of the iPhone. Starting as of February, 2011, you will be able to use the Verizon Wireless network with you iPhone.
If you are a current Verizon user, you will have the option of upgrading your phone. Depending on the type of phone that you are currently using, you might be able to grab a trade in discount. If you're not with Verizon right now, you can of course switch to them and start off with the iPhone 4. Whether you decide to get an iPhone 4 really is based upon how well you like the functionality of the phone. If you desire to download music, content from iTunes, take photographs, shoot videos and play games, you will fall in love with iPhone 4. We have only been able to discuss a small amount of the features that it has. But if you do not use the phone much and are not that impressed with all of the bonuses that the iPhone has then it might be more phone than you need
