For me this year is extra special, as it is my baby girl's first Christmas :) <3

As for the new year, I also hope to return to blogging during spring time. I really miss it, and have TONS to write about!

Quick post to show I'm alive, and the blog is not closed down! I even started writing a posting about two weeks ago, but cannot seem to finish ever since. Life with a baby is busy, and when I have some time on my hands I still very much prefer to rest. I need to rest...

But my "cosmetic life" is busy and hectic as well, filled with beautiful, magical items. So yeah, I have tons to write about, do not give up on me!!!!

PUPA - Folk Waves Blush Trio

I remember last year summer (I think) I entered a beauty shop and there was the new limited edition seasonal collection from PUPA. The theme had something to do with forests if I am not mistaken, but the point was the blush in the collection. It was fantastic! It was pretty much a pale pink velvety incandescence in powder form! Creamy pink candle light! And yet, sort of deliberately avoiding PUPA (the *ss that I am) I resisted.

Since I still keep thinking about that blusher and I regretted my decision a million times since then, I definitely could not miss out on this fall's limited edition blusher from the "Folk Waves" Collection. A huge, baked gorgeousness composed of 3 stripes to be mixed or worn alone. The two edge stripes shimmery and rich, while the middle one more glittery this blusher is perfectly illuminating and has a "silky effect" just as promised. The clam shell design compact is luxurious and falls perfectly into place in the palm of your hand. It has moreover a huge mirror inside!

Pink Harmony was obviously my choice of color, and it looks perfect with my pale complexion. It is also the perfect product to wake up my face in these grey winter days (after long nights of barely sleeping). The formula is also without parabens and perfectly adapted to sensitive skin. I think this item is lovely, and if you want an awesome illuminating blusher (the glitters are really not offensive on the face and make a nice effect), you will get your 20 Euros worthwhile.

By the way: has PUPA's formula's and quality been improved, or did I just mature into their world of baked products? I know for sure that most of their products have undergone some sort of revamping this last year and a half/ two years. I'm not sure, all I know is that I went for some of their mini nail polishes (which I have always loved!), and came home with almost every product in their line! After some years apart it seems we are a match made in heaven!

Oh yeah, I am all about PUPA now! <3

DOLOMIA - Nail Color

Post number two in my DOLOMIA series!

You might remember my quest looking for a simple but cute nail color that is easy to find (in Italy that is), has none of the major harmful ingredients (therefore is 3 free) and offers a something little extra for my nails, some cure and care while we're at it ;)

Well once again, DOLOMIA was the answer! They have a little line of 10 simple and elegant colors (most of them pale creme pastels), as well as one transparent polish that dupes as both base and top coat (or a simple clear polish if you prefer that look), that no one can go wrong with. These babies are strengthening and protecting the nails, are easy to apply and dry quite fast too, giving you a solid 5-7 day manicure (especially if you use the base/top coat).

The available colors are all lovely, and also here, you can hardly make a wrong choice. I myself opted for '04 Chiara' as my very first bottle. 'Chiara' is a very very pale pearly pink. Coverage is flawless, and I need no more than one coat. Now many of you might think of this color as very mammy, but I like it a lot, and find it more of an evergreen classic. There is nothing wrong with a pale pearly pink if the formula is right (right amount of pearl effect, not too heavy nor too light, moreover easy to apply evenly) and if it is applied right. With this one I have no problems whatsoever, and my hands always look flawless and ready for any situation.

Naturally this is not a selection for you nail crazed ladies out there. (Luckily) There are no crackele' effects, magnetic polishes, vampy colors or chunky glitters. But if you want clean and polished looking nails in a few simple minutes, with products that are guaranteed safe and "clean" to use while only spending 6 EUR for a 9 ml bottle, DOLOMIA Nail Colors are right up your alley. Personally, they are all I ever really wanted for my nails.

On the image below I try to present the bottle, and on my nails you see one plain coat of 'Chiara'. No base or top. With base and top the effect is just somewhat smoother (as my nails are smoother) and a couple of grades shinier.

DOLOMIA Make Up - Blusher

Hi All!

Here comes finally the first posting since my baby girl arrived :) What to say, it feels good to be back :)

As you perhaps remember during the last few weeks of my pregnancy I tried to create a beauty guide for new moms (to be), and also had the time to revise it once. Well, I had many ideas, and I think in one way or another I managed to follow most of them, but having given birth and taking care of a newborn baby really showed me to the best products I own (and needed or still need to get), and how to truly keep up a quick and practical beauty routine. To show and explain, I should take a new stash photo I think, but bear with me for a while.
You might also remember that I introduced you to DOLOMIA Make Up by showing off what I bought, and leaving a hint here and there on Facebook of my satisfaction. Well, I must confess that during this last month this amazing, exclusively pharmaceutical brand (both as far as production and distribution goes) has truly become my number one, must have, go to brand of make up items.

I own practically an almost completely full "kit"by now (as I pick up something every time I enter the pharmacy LOL), but will still need to complement a bit, and hope in some new goodies to be launched as well (there should be limited edition seasonal collections, but I have not been able to get information or seen anything in my pharmacy). I have been thinking a lot about which item should get the honor of the first review, and have decided for the powder blusher as it is the item that perhaps surprised me the most. First of all, for decent swatches look here. Although there are only four shades available they are all very natural, and cover the scale for all skin tones in my opinion. Being very pale I chose No. 51 Biscotto (Biscuit), that is much better for us pale and porcelain skinned ladies than you would even begin to imagine.

Biscuit is a quite pale but definitely pigmented shade of pinky-peachy-beige (completely matte finish). What I love about it is the super fine powder texture that applies effortlessly and evenly with a blusher brush (I would love to buy the DOLOMIA brushes but alas the pharmacy does not carry them), leaving behind a beautifully transparent but luminous color that looks super natural on my cheeks, all day long. This color moreover has the ability to look slightly different in different light conditions. Sometimes it is more of a pink shade, while at other moments the peachy beige tone seems to reign. Not to mention that also the price tag of about 11 EUR (cannot remember exactly now what I paid but it was not more than that) is more than friendly for this top notch product, that even comes in a very elegant, shiny black packaging.

There is not much else to say, and no need to draw this posting much longer. In all honesty this is a lovely product of the highest (and purest!) quality for little money (like the rest of the DOLOMIA selection), and I am going to remain a faithful consumer as long as I can. I also recommend it to all of you, warmly.

Things to Look Out For This Fall - A Summary Post

Ok, me being pregnant is no news for any of you anymore. I am now in week 38, and exhausted. On the other hand there are so many lovely things to share with all of you, so many things I wanted to say these last weeks, but I just never made it. Therefore I have decided to make one summary post where I try to make up for lost time (and non written posts), and perhaps even more importantly give a quick run through the news for this fall/winter that I think look worthy of some serious attention.

First of all, I unfortunately ended up hating all my Benefit haul items :( Yes, serious waste of money, but luckily there is my "to be gifted" bin, so at the end it will work out well. Call me crazy pregnant lady, but in the longer term there were a couple of little things I did not like (that I discovered little by little while using them) and it all snowballed into a general no go for these products, not to mention that my husband hated the smells of them, and that for me is always a deciding element! No worries though, as I just went to a pharmacy nearby and replaced practically my entire makeup stash with nice, pharmaceutical quality DOLOMIA make up products for a mere 60-70 EUR (includes cream foundation, lipstick, blusher, eye liner pencil, eye shadow, nail polish and mascara). I love pharmacy skin care and make up more and more and will probably never let go of them again. But then again.... But then again, there are other items which need to be singled out on the shelves of a good Sephora or department store. Good items always hide in the masses ;)

1. Just as a reminder. If you own and wear any of the Clinique Chubby Sticks, hug it tight and love it (if not, go and get one now!). I adore mine, and it is definitely the comfort item I reach for the most when it comes to lips. I now wear 'Woopin' Watermelon, and it is just the perfect pale pink sheen and pampering for your lips. As a quick note, I apologize to my lovely contact at Clinique Italy, as she did send me some items months ago and I, shamefully, never came around to the reviews. One of them was the 'Targeted Protection Stick SPF 35', and I must say although I never left the city this year, it served me well on some strategical points that were often exposed. The other item was their new 'Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15' which is light but at the same time soft as silk and is a dream to apply. It keeps yous skin soft as butter too, with a delicate but effective pigmentation. Unfortunately though, I personally would need shade 1, which I will have difficulties to find it seems.

For the moment though, keep your eyes peeled for their Black Honey fall trend (with the mythical Black Honey Lip Color), not to mention the Lid Smoothie Antioxidant 8 Hour Colour (which should already be in stores also in Italy, but apparently we have some delay so just wait a few more days). Despite of being tired beyond ridiculous, I did go out and search for these, and mark my word, soon I will look for them again. :D

2. Do also take a look at the lovely Colour Definition collection from Clarins. As always, we are being offered a collection that is breathtakingly elegant, and gives us also some items that will make part of the general collection of Clarins! The Ombre Minerale 4 Couleurs especially talk to me.... Moreover, let's not forget their new eye contour gel and compact foundation to be released either.... Yup, keep your eyes open, you won't regret it!

3. Estee Lauder. Aaah, thy name is temptation. Besides the sick, twisted and forbidden attraction I feel towards their new Idealist Illuminator products for face and eye contour, there is their new Pure Colour Sensous Rouge Lip Color, the lipstick with the balm(y) core that looks like a million bucks. One of these will be mine! Sooner or later. For the moment, let's just wait for the release ;)

4. Dior. Not one of my usual brands, but unfortunately I am kind of getting into it. About a month ago I received as a gift from my mother in law, one of the new Dior Addict High Shine Lipsticks and it is way better that I even imagined it could be. Soft and moisturizing with a texture that really is beyond anything we are used to. Wonderful colors aplenty and red carpet ready lips. My mind is blow away by this, and I can only recommend it. The color I got is color 579 'Must Have'. A mid tone pink with the most delicate shimmer. Simply a must have. And, just to mention it, I am also lusting for a Diorlisse nail polish, Dior Addict Lip Glow and of course Creme Abricot for my nails. Take that wish list. I guess an item for my birthday, another for Christmas... It can be done :)

To give you a proper view of how my stash is currently I also took a photo. Still not a huge stash, but almost completely changed. As for the new mom beauty routine, I think unfortunately I will not be able to revisit it again at this moment, but I do stick to the most important points of it: cleanse (wipes are handy as I have mentioned before), moisturize, and keep things clear and simple but do not give up your femininity. Take care of yourself and remember you are a woman (to be desired) not "just" a breastfeeding and diaper changing machine LOL. ;) :D At the end, this you can do with any products you see fit. For my part, reviews, updates and more items to lust for will be posted about later. Never forget that although I might not write, I always check in and keep an eye on the developments! ;)

A Quick Catching Up

I have so much to say, and so little focus and discipline to do so at the moment :D Please forgive me, good readers and brands I am in contact with, but as I could go into labor any day now I feel slightly distracted :D

But to catch up a little: all my skincare (including body) comes now strictly from the pharmacy, and I am loving it. My skin feels great (finally also on my body - all hail Vichy NutriExtra!) and it's really just a higher quality experience, for not a too high price (although I must admit I am ever so curious about the Benefit b.right! skin care line). I am going to stick to shopping in the pharmacy I think. And I am also going to go there for makeup!

Recently I wanted a nail polish that was a bit special, and so I managed to pick up a bottle of Dolomia nail polish in the pharmacy. The ingredient list is great (definitely free of anything remotely nasty), and I am very happy about this 6 EUR find of mine. Having seen many appealing, simple and elegant products I will definitely return to the pharmacy next time I need to replace a makeup item. I am a simple girl at heart, and pharmaceutical formulas just feel so clean and safe for some reason. Not to mention colors are usually on the sober side, prices are affordable and most makeup items made by pharmaceutical companies hide some great skin care benefits as well.

Having said that, I need to confess to loving my new Benefit stash (although Posietint still needs to get some getting used to from my side, I do absolutely and in particular adore Dandelion and Ooh La Lift!), and also my selected Sephora Collection items (new hydrating blusher, jumbo eye pencil, concealer and vinyl lipstick pencil), so for the future, I guess I will just mix pharmacy with Sephora and Benefit :D. On the other hand I have grown some second thoughts about liquid liners. I mean they are still great, but I did see some lovely pencils in the pharmacy, and I am also very tempted by a BADgal liner in color 'Espresso'. Perhaps I also miss the creaminess of a pencil, and the ability to smudge it out a bit when I want to (or when I apply it slightly crooked).

I will make a list of reviews I need to make, and also update on how my beauty routine works after actually having had the baby (and consequently having a lot less time and effort to put into makeup).

And I will try to be here, as much and as soon as I can! :)

Benefit Haul!

The following conversation took place the other day between myself and my husband:

Me (reading the 2011 Spring Benefit Catalog): You see honey, since I just received a discount from Sephora, I was thinking of going to stock up on some useful Benefit items this week. They have some lovely products that are a bit illuminating and would be easy and quick to use also after the baby arrives. This way I would be pretty and fresh in 2 minutes at all times :D
Him: *Silence*
Me: You don't care much, do you?
Him: Oh no, as a matter of fact, I find it a great idea!

Needless to say, I was content with that much, so today I really did go and invest in some products that will give me a rested look in a moment or two, also when I will be anything but rested. Hey, That Gal, Posietint, They're Real and Ooh La Lift will even come with me to the hospital! This way, perhaps I won't look like a very tired ghost when people come to see me and the baby, and perhaps even some of the photos will be decent ;)

REVISED: Essential (and quick) Beauty Tips For New Moms (To Be)

Here it is ladies, my updated version of a new mom beauty routine.

I know it is not too long ago I wrote the original posting, but having discovered several great products since then, and by that having made my routine even better I decided to do a proper update. Not to mention, that focusing on something as seemingly futile as my postpartum beauty routine, helps me to take my mind off actually having to give birth soon! :D

I write all new pieces of text in bold red so to make my updates obvious.

Makeup cleansing wipes. These will become your best friends, best to face it already now. Instant cleansing in a few seconds, no need to reach for several products or spend time on washing and toweling off. Just a quick rub each morning and evening (and there are more than enough brands to choose from) and you're ready for the next step: makeup, but first...
MOISTURIZING!!! This is very very important I have discovered. Well ok, obviously it is always one of the most basic steps of a decent skin care routine, but during pregnancy and also afterwards, it will be even more important (and not just on the face). What kind of product you use is obviously a matter of personal tastes and needs, but a well moisturized skin always looks plumper, fresher, less tired and has a healthier color. Half success already (and do not forget the sunscreen factor!), not to mention, smearing on a dab of cream really takes no effort or time. Think also about the fact that pharmaceutical ranges of skin care will perform better than supermarket brands, without costing like luxurious department store brands (for the most part). I have recently had great results with Vichy, and my mother in law also introduced me to the EUCERIN AQUAPORIN ACTIVE products which I like even better due to their fantastic texture.
At this point, you're ready for that quick makeup that will make all the difference. For day time obviously you need to skip the cream + foundation (unless you just drop two drops of foundation into your moisturizer and make no art of applying it) routine, and go straight to a tinted moisturizer that gives a bit of coverage, evens out skin tone and takes care of your face (if you have a good/preferred one). Alternatively, and this is what I will do, you get yourself "That Gal" from Benefit for lovely fresh skin on the run, with no effort or time investment at all.
For a good and quick way to conceal any imperfections and/or dark areas under your eyes I recommend the NEW Sephora Smoothing & Brigthening Concealer. A practical click pen, divinely creamy formula and enough shades to cover all skin tones and needs; not to mention illuminating pigments and hylauronic acid is what you get for a very friendly price tag. Do not miss this one out.
Eye shadow, in my opinion, cannot be skipped but it can be made quick and easy to apply and wear as well. And this is the point where I want to give you a preview of a new product soon to come. Very soon I hope! Please see below the image of the brand new Clinique Lid Smoothies!!!! Anti oxidant eye colors that condition and beautify your eyelids with their cream formula and cooling tip applicator (which seems to be somewhat of a trend these days). Can be used alone, or as a base for powder eye colors, but obviously for our needs the practical application, easy cream formula and skin care benefits are the most important and since they all will come in one product, well, JACKPOT is all I can say. These are not released yet, but I cannot wait, and I hope they arrive real soon. I know already they will be real life (well ok, beauty) savers. Another lovely and new option is the Sephora Collection 12 Hour Wear Water (and heat and humidity) proof Jumbo Eye Pencils line. Flawless performance, practicality and a wonderful nude shade (Taupe), for the price of 10,90 EUR. I am hooked on this one, and have nearly finished my first pencil!
Eye liner. I went liquid recently. Quicker, more practical, easier to use. No need for recurrent sharpening, no risk of the tip breaking or smearing etc. Not to mention, a quick touch of shimmering liquid liner really can make you look good. I am loving the Sephora Long Lasting Metallic one (also in 'Taupe'), as well as the Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in 'Rock Candy'. Finish off with a touch of mascara, Benefit's "They're Real!" naturally.
Now a blusher is again a key tool in making you look healthy and fresh. I am not talking about shading and contouring, I am talking about one quick sweep of a brush and that's it. Pale pinks and peaches make you glow (obviously though you need to take your own skin color into consideration when choosing shades), and in case you can find 2 extra seconds sweep a breath of illuminating product on there are well. Or 'smudge'. I recommend the also new Sephora Colorful Hydrating Powder Blush with a touch of Benefit's "Girl Meets Pearl" underneath. Killer combination I assure you, I have gotten several compliments on this lately. As a perhaps even quicker and more effortless option, I have also developed a new found (and unexpected) love for Stila's lovely Lip & Cheek Stains ('Yumberry Crush' is a great pale pink to immediately wake up your complexion and lips), and some day (soon hopefully) also Benefit's Posietint shall be mine.
Lips. Soft and pampered lips are always nicer. But with a small child, forget full blown, heavy lipsticks and glosses! Besides kissing your baby a zillion times a day, your lips are going to be touched a lot too. For this reason, a nice tinted lip balm is the best option. Go with Clinique's new Chubby Sticks. Pretty, practical and pampering. No sharpening needed, and the results are very subtle. But do not despair, because you need not give up lip makeup completely. Applied lightly, the Sephora Ultra Vinyl Lip Pencils leave a touch of color without being sticky or overwhelming, and the color stays put pretty well. Not to mention the practicality of the product actually being in a pencil form. I have 'Gorgeous Peach' and it is a lovely nude, golden peachy pink with which you cannot really go wrong. And for a lipstick... Well I do have one of the new Dior Addict ones on my photo below (was a gift from my mother in law), and it did surprise me a lot. But more about that later ;)
Nails. Always short!!! No risk of scratching your baby and is much lower in maintenance as well, not to mention that short nails are easier to keep clean. Try to find a minute or two during baby down time to apply a pale pastel (lower in maintenance, and it is no tragedy in case it happens to chip) or, why not, even some color to make your hands look impeccable, and brighten your mood even on those very very tired days (and remember to keep a tube of hand cream in every room not to mention ever bag you own!). I recommend these little bottles from Sephora: affordable, great formula (I always have good results, relatively quick drying time and no chipping) not to mention a renewed range of colors. There is simply something in there for all.
Hair. Again, a shorter style is way easier to keep looking presentable without investing a lot of effort, and if you can just keep it clean (meaning find the time for a nice shower) you can always just boost it with a nice colorful hair accessory or two. I plan to get a hair cut next week (am almost 7 months now) and plan to have one more a bit before giving birth. Lucky me though, I already have a shorter, curly style and am used to just get up and go. My hair takes no styling at all, and needs none for that matter. Even on the worst hair days, I just look like I have a deliberate "bed head" style going on :D

Now this might sound a lot, but it really is not. If you look at the picture I took, you see how mini this stash is, and moreover I really do not mean to sit and play around with it. I mean quick swipes and smudges, with virtually no particular tools and brushes needed more than your fingers occasionally (I only use a duo fiber brush for the powder blusher). As a "bonus" I also added my new favorite deodorant: Dove's Beauty Finish. I find it efficient, and I simply adore the scent. It is just so lovely and feminine.

I still owe you many reviews regarding the mentioned products, but they will come around. In the meanwhile, let me just say that I personally am very happy with this selection and how they make me look. Just the way I always wanted...

And then the +2 tips ;)

To get quickly back into shape, get yourself a pair of Reetones for those walks in the park! You need to spend no time or effort on workouts, but will get back into shape while about your daily routine ;)
For that extra touch of color and glam, ask your husband for a "Unconventional Diamonds" ring! Inexpensive (costs about 60 EUR) cute and glamorous, not to mention unlikely to hurt or scratch your baby. :) In addition, they should look awesome with some of those Sephora polishes! ;)

Benefit 'Girl Meets Pearl'

Welcome to the next posting in my Benefit series! :) I really do love this brand; they have the greatest products if you go for a barely visible but luminous look, and with each product I buy and try, the more convinced I am that there are a number of must haves in their selection.

'Girl Meets Pearl' was a clear love at first sight experience for me ever since I spotted it a couple of days after its release in Sephora late last year, but I did not actually own it until recently. Now that I do own it, I know that I will repurchase as soon as I run out.

The very light fluid texture has an adorable and very subtle golden peachy pink color with delicate shimmer of course. Smells lovely too, and feels refreshing on the face. Moreover it is loaded with nice ingredients to make your face not only pretty, but also happy from within. The raspberry and chamomile extracts soothe, the sweet almond seed provides firming and smoothing action while the sesame seed oil moisturizes. This is one pretty (and) great cocktail to have in your beauty routine!

And it is practical and easy to use as well! Now I have read many complaints about the packaging, but I really do not understand, and I most definitely do not agree. First of all it is rather cute and girlie, particular in its own way. You twist the bottom, and on the top, through the little holes the product comes out. From here you can apply with fingers, or by simply pulling the "wand" across your face. You can obviously use more or less of this, depending on the desired results. I personally dab just a very little on the highest point of my cheekbones (under powder blusher, or on top of a cheek tint), my temples, and perhaps just a little on my nose and chin and even it out with my fingers. A 30 second job that keeps me looking luminous all day long, even on the most grey and tired one (life saver for moms to be and new moms as well!).

The price lies at 32 EUR for 12ml, but a little goes very far (as you really only need a smidgen to illuminate your complexion) and it gives you a better result than any powder illuminating product. Not to mention the fun factor that lies in most Benefit items ;) :D

WISHLIST: Benefit "That Gal" Brightening Face Primer

Today I come with a wishlist/mini review sort of posting regarding Benefit's "That Gal" face primer. As I am sure I have mentioned before, I have had little nibbles at this brand before but never really started exploring it for real until recently. Mainly because it was not really available to me until not too long ago. Now however, the more I look into the products, the more I research the items and then test the ones that catch my attention, the deeper I fall for Benefit. For that end, I went to my local Sephora, and straight out asked them to make me a little sample jar of this :D Luckily, since being on quite friendly terms with the store manager, I got two

I find the brand's whole concept, and many of their products simply blimmin' wonderful! Like for instance "That Gal". This product sports itself as a kind of multi tasking, brightening face "primer". I personally would call it simply a "face perfecter" you are free to use a little as you want really. No particular rules need to be followed or considered.

I can moreover not even really explain it to you what this exactly does. It just quite simply makes you look better. The pale pink cream formula is soft, smells of strawberries and cream, and is a pleasure to apply. I like to put some on top of my (very light textured) moisturizer and my face, by some magic, looks really really good. Without any makeup (foundation, powder etc.) whatsoever. I am honestly not sure how to explain as it does not give coverage of any sort, and I do need to pat a touch of my beloved concealer on the strategical areas as well as on any spots or blemishes I might have. And yet, my face looks naturally bright and wonderful. As a matter of fact I am quite bugged at the moment that my sun protection fluid for face is slightly tinted, as I really enjoy the effect of "That Gal" alone. And after all, looking near "flawless" (as far as complexion and skin goes) without much makeup (and extra steps in the morning) would be the utmost ideal situation.

Need to get myself this one as soon as I can. Love it to pieces.

Benefit 'They're Real!' Mascara

Well I will admit to it. I, as the majority of the beauty blogging community, have been in convulsions with excitement waiting and waiting for this mascara to be released! As my local Sephora unfortunately is a smaller one, it was a few days behind schedule so I went there every single day. By now the girls and the shop manager know me pretty well, so they knew why I kept stalking them! :D When these babies finally arrived, they waited for me and although the product was not yet placed on the shelves, they brought it out for me from the back and I could purchase the first one in my town! That filled me with considerable pride and the sense of having achieved something great ;) :D

Never before have I been this excited about a mascara, especially not a black one, so I really looked forward to start using it the day after. I have always preferred brown mascaras, and still have a soft spot for them. But over the years I have recognized that black is probably somewhat more versatile, and does not necessarily need to look harsh just because I am very pale.

But let's move on to 'They're Real' itself. This mascara comes with a silicone brush that has both horizontal, and some vertical bristles. The vertical bristles at the top of the brush make it slightly similar to the famous Givenchy Phenomeyes mascara, and I must say I like this feature a lot. Those little bristles on the dome shaped tip work very well, and I love using the brush (also) vertically! So while half the magic is in the brush and bristles (which really enable you to "mold" and model your lashes in a number of ways), the other half is in the formula. The formula promises to be jet-black, long wearing and glossy; giving length, curl, volume, lifting and separation. In all truthfulness, I can only confirm!

This is actually a product that does exactly what it says! Using this mascara, I get lashes that are simply amplified in every sense! They are thicker, longer and being lifted really open up the eyes. I can also see the curl effect and separation and the slight glossy effect which brings that extra sheen to your eyes. It just looks very very blimmin' good! Now do mind two things though!!!

1. Use it for a couple of days, play with it and experiment application! Read the advice on the Benefit webpage, it can come in handy, especially if you are not some mascara guru. Although it is not rocket science, and we have all used a mascara before, I personally think every new mascara (brush) takes some getting used to, and you need to feel how it works best for you. Your lashes will look great from first application, but give it a little time and you will see that as you get to know the product, the results get only better and better!

2. The formula is both creamy and liquid just to the right point. Application is effortless, and in a second or two it sets. It sets, and then it stays on. And I do mean it stays on! This mascara does by no means melt, or migrate, sprinkle you with crumbles during the day or give you panda eyes! Being nearly 9 months pregnant, I really do not like much fuss with my makeup (and even before I always represented a more laid back and practical, as simple as possible approach), and with this mascara I am safe. I go out to walk (or better put waddle) around in the august heat of Italy. Then I go to rest, I sleep, I get up, I do this and I do that.... And this mascara is still where it was in the morning when I put it on. In the evening, I just pat it with some water, and then wipe it off with a big cotton pad soaked with a generous spot of bi-phase eye makeup remover. You do need a good eye makeup remover, but it does come off easily that way; no need for lash ripping rubbing of your eyes. What is really nice with the formula that while it is not water proof and harsh, and does not dry your lashes to crusts so they break off, it really is very resistant and long lasting.

Need I say more? This will surely be a staple product of mine. A reliable product, that delivers and costs an affordable 22.50 EUR (especially if we consider the prices of let's say L'Oreal in this country) while being a more sophisticated, adult and quality product than many of it's supermarket counterparts (for a cost not much more elevated).

Sephora Collection - Colorful Hydrating Powder Blush

As mentioned earlier, Sephora has also revised the formula of their powder blushers, and they managed to come up with something rather extraordinary.

These new blushers are extremely silky to the touch, and pigmentation is beyond anything you would ever imagine. In addition the new formula is enriched with hydrating ingredients, mineral and organic pigments, is non-comedogenic and paraben free. This combination results in smoother application, boosted color intensity and longer wear. Cheeks are hydrated (also by your blusher and not only your skin care), therefore are smoother and have a healthy glow you wouldn't expect.

And, I can confirm, it is all true! The silky powder glides on effortlessly and evenly. Pigmentation and color intensity is heavy!!! I picked up '08 Petale Givre' (or Rose Petal under the link above), which is a pale to medium toned baby pink with matte finish, and I need to be extremely careful with application. I use a MAC 187 duo fibre brush (very very soft, meant for a light application) to pick up as little from the pan as possible, and still I barely need to touch the product in the pan for achieving lovely pink cheeks that last without fading an entire day. Luckily though it is very easy to blend out, and a little goes a very very long way.

The product photo below is not the best as far as color representation goes (it should be 'Petale Givre') so do by all means check these out personally before purchasing. I found most of the colors available absolutely lovely (also completely fell in love with 'Coral Crush' for its lovely golden shimmer), and find no flaws with the packaging either (being the usual plastic but sturdy Sephora compact).

The pan contains 3.2 g of product and while it might not be a lot, it will last you a great deal. Price tag lies at 10.90 EUR a pop, and if you ask me, for a quality product like this that is more than fair. I don't think finding a new blusher will ever be a problem for me again, I will know where to go and what to reach for.

WISHLIST: Vichy Normaderm Anti-Age

Vichy's Normaderm line is one of the few out there designed for acne (imperfection) prone adult skin. Most other skin care companies unfortunately do have the tendency to think imperfections go away with adolescence, and have no consideration for a quite wide ranging consumer group of adults who indeed still have issues with blemishes and breakouts.

Normaderm is therefore not only quite unique, but also rather good (and affordable!). I have myself in the past used them with good results, and I also have friends who swear by it. Well Normaderm is about to get even better.

In september, the new Normaderm Anti-Age gel-cream should hit the shelves in Italian pharmacies for the pleasure of those of us who do not only suffer from (coming and going) clogged pores (even though I cannot really complain now if I think about how it used to be in the past), blemishes and uneven skin, but also are well in the age of thinking about preventing skin from premature aging. This new product will work with ingredients like lipo-hydroxy acid, glycolic acid and glycosylated vitamin C, all meant to gently exfoliate, stimulate skin cells, unclog pores, fade dark spots and "wipe off" (or prevent) wrinkles. In addition, being a gel-cream, it should be lighter and less invasive than regular anti-age products.

Although usually I do not like gel based skin care, this one I will have to give a go! Just sounds too promising. I will of course also have to do some additional research, but based on the active ingredients I think even my pregnant/soon to give birth and start breastfeeding system will be able to use this and take it in without any potential harm to my baby.

Sephora Collection - Smoothing & Brightening Concealer

Sephora seems to be reformulating and relaunching some of their products. We have seen the new version of their Jumbo Eye Pencil, their new blushers look more than promising, and right now I am going to show you their new Smoothing & Brightening Concealer.

This new creamy concealer is a cocktail of illuminating pigments and hylauronic acid, to illuminate where you want, hide imperfections, dark circles under eyes or even smaller wrinkles. The formula does not only render your flaws invisible, but also moisturizes and nourishes skin (and does not contain parabens). Now you ask how can an illuminating product also effectively hide blemishes and such? Well I am not sure, but it can and it does!

I got this in the shade '03 Radiant Rose' and it is the perfect (and I mean literally perfect) match for my cool toned porcelain complexion. My under eye area looks completely naturally 'bright' with this, and even my occasional blemish simply disappears into its surroundings. The creamy texture is soft and pleasant, covers well but never cakes, dries to a crust, collects in fine lines or becomes heavy in any sense. It also melts into skin, but not off it (at least I get a full day wear out of it and I am not even wearing any foundation recently). I am truly amazed by the high quality, and I think this can compete with most concealers on the market today.

Color selection is also top notch and there is something for everyone. I am not sure why I cannot see it on the Sephora website I linked above, but in my local store I also saw a pale greenish shade, and even a quite white one to address different skin flaws/concerns, or even perhaps to mix up your own personal shade.

To make the deal even sweeter, also the click pen has been updated and is much more sturdy and professional than the old one was. It looks good, shows the color of the product well and functions reliably, even getting the dosage of product with each click quite right. The brush is tapered and firm allowing for precise and near perfect application (even though I still like to smooth out my concealer with my fingers after application), and the whole thing has the air of a much more expensive item than it actually is. If you ask me, the 13,90 EUR this costs, is more than worth it.

Now the Garnier eye roll-on concealer thing is good, indeed very very good for what it is and how little it costs, and I have been using it with great joy for many months now. But in my personal opinion Sephora has it beat, and for a price not much higher (even without the presence of a cooling roller ball). I have changed a favorite, and I feel no regret.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal - Aqualia Antiox

Some two weeks ago I was writing about how I wanted to start with a skin care routine that is not too basic and simple, but is baby approved and still gives a something little extra to my 30+ face (I want to keep in as good a condition as possible).

I singled out the Vichy Aqualia Thermal line as the one for this purpose, and I as went to get some products already the day after, I think I can now safely review them.

Aqualia Thermal Serum: As we know the entire line of Aqualia Thermal is built on the technology of micro-diffusion of precious hydrating "capsules" containing fortifying minerals to strengthen, soften and smoothen skin by thorough and constant deep moisturizing. You see with adequate and high quality moisturization our skin naturally becomes smoother, softer, more plump and of a better tone. The hydro fluid texture of the serum promises to be velvety and to enter skin flawlessly in a few seconds. And I must say that is exactly what it does. It is a very pleasant serum that leaves no residue whatsoever, but leaves the skin feeling and looking fabulous due to its extra concentration of moisturizing, mineral goodiness. It has a very faint scent, and comes in a hygienic and practical 30 ml pump bottle. I use it every evening, and I do so with great results. Being formulated for sensitive skin this is by no means aggressive and it does do a great job. Therefore I can only recommend it.

Aqualia Antiox Pro-Youth Antioxidant Hydrating Fluid: At first I wanted to get the "plain" Aqualia Thermal face cream, but this is actually even better! It is a super light fluid that contains not only the strengthening minerals, but is also enriched with pure citrus poliphenol that has an anti-oxidant effect on the skin and makes it not only soft and pleasant to the touch, but also luminous, velvety, even in the tone (skin tone) and it smoothens out the first fine lines (by a delicate but constant exfoliation). It smells lightly of citrus fruits, and absorbs into the skin without any residues leaving behind nothing else besides fabulous skin. It does contain SPF 12, but I do mix this in the mornings with enough drops of La Roche Posay Anthelios Extreme Fluid Extreme SPF 50+ Tinted version (which I am using since April, and really need to get around to the review) to get adequate protection for the day. In the evening it goes on top of the Aqualia Thermal Serum but sinks in easily just the same. Serious results are promised after 15 days of regular usage, but I must say certain effects of this serum+fluid cocktail of mine did show immediate results (like an incomparable softness with a very light feeling all over). After having used it for two weeks, I can also confirm the other results. My skin always looks fresh, smooth and has an even tone, much more so than before.

Now this fluid does have one particularity though. It is by no means a tinted fluid. It will not cover any sorts of spots, and it really does not give color, but still it does contain a very light dosage of pigments that are supposed to fit all skin tones (since they become literally invisible after application). What they do is, that when your skin already is in a great condition from the citrus poliphenols, it adds just a little extra to the effect optically. But bear in mind, your skin really does need to be in near perfect condition for you to get away with this minimal amount of tint. I am almost there, but not just yet. Still, I am close enough not needing the Lush 'Jackie Oates' pigments anymore!

Aqualia Thermal Roll-On for Eyes: A very light hydro-gel following the Aqualia Thermal concept, making your dark circles and eventual under eye puffiness go away, besides getting rid of any fine lines due to dryness with a good, deep moisturizing action. I must say I do not have huge dark circles or any kinds of bags under my eyes to begin with, so maybe that's why I am satisfied with this item. It leaves my delicate under eye area soft and smooth, it is very refreshing and not greasy by any means. What is a bit faulty here is the packaging. You see the roller ball part is all plastic. It does not roll smooth like its metal counterparts usually do, and it does not give the same cooling effect. Heck, most of the times the ball does not roll at all. But I did find a simple solution! I simply squeeze the tube a bit harder, so some of the gel sips out at the sides of the ball. That way I can then easily even it out with the ball, even if it is not moving. This might be a turn off for many of you, but me personally, I do not mind too much.

I must say I am very happy with these products and the results they give me. I am also most likely not returning to the supermarket for my skin care anymore, as the pharmacy is so much more suitable, and I did not even pay a fortune. For the three products, my total was 63 EUR, and I think that is fair for three items of a pharmaceutical caliber. The textures, sensation during use and the results are in any case a completely different dimension from supermarket level products, no matter how good they might be. I mean let's face it, after 30 some extra care and attention is needed to keep things pleasant.

WISHLIST!!!! Benefit 'They're Real!' Mascara

I honestly don't think I have ever been this ridiculously excited about a new mascara gettig released. I mean I usually check out the news, look at ads. When time for purchasing a new mascara I often take one of the new releases, and have been mostly known for getting something in the line of Rimmel, Maybelline or L'Oreal (although I have at times purchased the occassional Clinique mascara too). Moreover, I am usually also satisfied with my purchases as I have no surreal or even particular hopes and I rarely experience problems with any mascara really (like crumbling, smudging, melting etc). At times, I have even been known for repurchasing a product that for some reason caught my liking more than others (Maybelline Colossal Volum' for one).

But this one... The reviews, simple imagery and anticipation literally make my head spin!!! I really do wish to settle down when it comes to a mascara (stick to an undisputable favorite), and since I only buy one at a time, and only when I need it (meaning I do not have 10 of them around the house, nor do I have a smaller fortune invested in mascaras) to perhaps step away from those simpler brands, without exaggerating however. Well since a L'Oreal mascara in my neighbourhood goes for about 15-20 EUR (depending on the particular product), I think those 22 EUR a 'They're Real!' should cost me, is a perfectly affordable price.

Therefore lovely reviews and undeniably effective marketing, here I come! Sometimes in August it will be time for me to get a new mascara anyway, and sometimes in August, 'They're Real!' should also make its appearance in my local Sephora. That I call a lucky coincidence ;) :D

I Might Just Have Discovered Something Great - Stila Crush Lip & Cheek Stain

Although I have come pretty far, and my stash is by now both very minimal and rather practical (therefore ready for the pre-labor days, and the baby coming :D), it could still get a bit better me thinks.

Well Asos.com seems to have come to my rescue! They now carry STILA (perhaps they did even before?), and although the selection is perhaps not complete, it is pretty good (may God keep this good habit of theirs).

I wanted to order their Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in color 'Rock Candy' (will match perfectly with my Sephora Jumbo Liner, not to mention I generally think liquid liners are probably somewhat more practical. Anyhow, I do adore them these days. This product is also similar to the shimmery liquid liner from the Sephora Collection, and I do love that one). But to make it worthwhile with the shipping fee, I needed to add another item to my order, as I was only going to go through with it if I found something smart.

And something smart, indeed I did find, a multi tasking item at that! Hmm, a multi tasking item... To be honest I do often find them intriguing, have also tested some in the past, but usually find that they work well as one thing or another. Not like several all at once, meaning they usually lose their multi tasking points. But the Crush Lip & Cheek Stain from Stila seems to be different. Reviews are surprisingly good, and swatches very very cute. The color I chose is 'Yumberry', which is the pale pink showed if you click on the link above. It promises a lovely sheer pearlized pink tint to give some color and luminosity to both cheeks and lips, potent anti oxidants derived straight from the Yumberry (yes, it is real!) and a pleasant (actually wearable) texture for both lips and cheeks (based on reviews I read).

Well these two goodies should be delivered to me during next week, and if the stain delivers (I really have no doubts about the liquid liner), it will be 20.51 EUR well spent. If all works out, I might do an update photo of my mini getting "minier" stash ;) :D

Rethinking Skin Care - A Baby Approved Routine

So having pretty much fixed my makeup routine for becoming a new (and fab!) mom, my attention switched over to skin care.

I must say I have been able to keep my skin quite presentable during my nearly 7 months of pregnancy this far, with only occasional fits of breakouts. I have been using pretty simple and basic products (mostly Nivea Pure&Natural and Yes To Carrots) with good results, mixed with some good cleansing (very important for me at least is a decent scrubbing a few times a week, and some nice cleansers obviously. I still have a bit of a great one left from Lancome, but also a toner from L'Oreal I rather like, although Nivea Pure&Natural was included also here). So all in all, the products were delicate and did deliver, my skin does look more than OK, but recently I have been thinking that this whole routine I have been using this far might be just a tad bit too simple for me to stick to long term, and let's face it with having a baby in the oven, then breastfeeding and also planning for baby No. 2, I still have to stay away from my previously liked (more anti age, or anti breakout specific) products for quite some while. In all honesty, I am soon 32 years old (even if I show way less), and although salicylic acid and retinols (just to mention a few) are out of the question, I still would like to take a good care of my skin and keep my youthful appearance.

I searched therefore for a profoundly moisturizing line, that has a something little special to offer. After some browsing and reading up on the subject, I think that Vichy's Aqualia Thermal line might just be the one for me. In this range we are offered a number of care and treatment products for sensitive skin. The secret is not only a thorough moisturization, but also fortifying minerals, and there is even a serum amongst the products (I do dearly miss using a serum, but I have not dared with my baby bump). Many of the products are even paraben free, and they are all most definitely compatible with babies and small children (be it inside or outside my belly :D).

I do have a sample of one of the creams in the range, and I cannot wait to test it tonight. Then next week I think I am off to the pharmacy. Wish me luck!

An Eyeshadow Pencil That Will Perform Beyond Your Wildest Imagination - SEPHORA COLLECTION Jumbo Liner 12HR Wear Waterproof

This product is a new addition to the pretty nice Sephora Collection of products, and after seeing them, and reading tons of international rave reviews I could not resist buying one. So after getting my hair cut, I turned the whole evening into a mini beauty event and quickly stepped into Sephora to pick one of these up.

My Too Faced Natural Eye Palette did serve me good these last weeks (after I gave up my L'Oreal Infallibles for being way too shiny and high fashion for my taste, even if completely gorgeous). It is really natural and subtle looking (no news there), and it did put up a surprisingly good fight against oily and sweaty eyelids without an eyeshadow base (I could get a full workday wear out of them with minimal creasing, or close to none at all). It is not even time consuming or difficult to achieve a simple look with it (unless you get carried away and start playing), but having entered my third trimester of my pregnancy I have once again started to feel tired (especially in the mornings), so I need something even more simple and practical to make me look decent for going to work. The new Clinique Lid Smoothies are not out yet, but luckily, these pencils are :)

It is a very good things that amongst the strong and vibrant shades like green, turquoise, violets and marine there are several lovely and wearable natural toned shades as well. The beige, bronze and brown are all nice indeed, but I chose 'Taupe' as it was the most neutral and useful looking shade in the lot. It is a not too dark, not too pale, shimmery and gorgeous taupe shade that is however a bit more brown/beige, than grayish. Lovely nevertheless.

These pencils should be in the dictionary under the word 'practical'. It is completely portable, light, no parts that break or crumble, all you need is a pencil sharpener with a big hole. It is more than easy to use as well. You simply apply it straight on your eyelid, with 2-3 easy strokes. You can smudge or even it out slightly with a fingertip, but there is no need really, at least not with the 'Taupe' shade. It applies smooth and even from the first stroke, and leaves behind the most perfect 'film' of rich, shimmery (but not shiny!) neutral colored eyeshadow. A 'film' that stays put all day. I mean it does not move or fade, at all. Not even the slightest. And you definitely need a heavy duty, bi-phase makeup remover to get rid of this the end of the day (which in this case is good, very very good).

For the price of 10,90 EUR this product is the most amazing, relieving item ever. Just what I need for this pre-baby, and then postpartum period of my life, when I will have very little or no time (or strength) but still want to look awake and polished :) Such a fantastic eyeshadow, what else can I say... <3 <3 <3

Essential (and quick) Beauty Tips For New Moms (To Be)

Yup, postpartum beauty. I have a long time ago decided that I am not going to turn out to be one of those new mothers who besides having had a baby look like they aged 3 decades overnight, and it is not even sure they were women to begin with. Of course, this does not mean that I will fall into the other side of the pool and start wearing makeup with great exaggeration either (which is another common new mom mistake I see. All or nothing it seems :D). It was never my style to begin with, and as a matter of fact I just keep getting better and better in achieving that delicate and luminous look I love the most.

Ok, like most new moms, I will probably be tired and sleep deprived. I will need to manage more things than I imagine at this point, not to mention actually getting used to parenting. The challenges will not be few, although I do have a wonderful husband who is always taking a great part in everything. And in addition to all of this, I have every intention of remaining a fresh looking woman, while also being a mother.

For this end I have being reading up on the subject 'postpartum beauty' and by spicing it up with my own personal thoughts and ideas have come up with the following 11+2 tips.

Makeup cleansing wipes. These will become your best friends, best to face it already now. Instant cleansing in a few seconds, no need to reach for several products or spend time on washing and toweling off. Just a quick rub each morning and evening (and there are more than enough brands to choose from) and you're ready for the next step: makeup or...
MOISTURIZING!!! This is very very important I have discovered. Well ok, obviously it is always one of the most basic steps of a decent skin care routine, but during pregnancy and also afterwards, it will be even more important (and not just on the face). What kind of product you use is obviously a matter of personal tastes and needs, but a well moisturized skin always looks plumper, fresher, less tired and has a healthier color. Half success already (and do not forget the sunscreen factor!). Not to mention, smearing on a dab of cream really takes no effort or time.
At this point, you're ready for that quick makeup that will make all the difference. For day time obviously you need to skip the cream + foundation (unless you just drop two drops of foundation into your moisturizer and make no art of applying it) routine, and go straight to a tinted moisturizer that gives a bit of coverage, evens out skin tone and takes care of your face. If you are pale (like me), I warmly recommend Lush's Jackie Oates.
A caffeine rich concealer for under eyes will also do a great service, and what's better at that than Garnier's eye roll-on concealer product? I will tell you, basically nothing! I am a convert to this, and will not let it go. Simply fantastic, not to mention cooling and practical all in one.
Eye shadow, in my opinion, cannot be skipped but it can be made quick and easy to apply and wear as well. And this is the point where I want to give you a preview of a new product soon to come. Very soon I hope! Please see below the image of the brand new Clinique Lid Smoothies!!!! Anti oxidant eye colors that condition and beautify your eyelids with their cream formula and cooling tip applicator (which seems to be somewhat of a trend these days). Can be used alone, or as a base for powder eye colors, but obviously for our needs the practical application, easy cream formula and skin care benefits are the most important and since they all will come in one product, well, JACKPOT is all I can say. These are not released yet, but I cannot wait, and I hope they arrive real soon. I know already they will be real life (well ok, beauty) savers. Another decent alternative seem to be the new SEPHORA COLLECTION 12 Hour Wear Water (and heat and humidity) proof Jumbo Eye Pencils. Quite intrigued by these as well to be honest.
Eye liner. I went liquid recently. Quicker, more practical, easier to use. No need for sharpening, no risk of the tip breaking or smearing etc. Not to mention, a quick touch of shimmering liquid liner really can make you look good. Finish off with a touch of mascara, any you prefer really.
Now a blusher is again a key tool in making you look healthy and fresh. I am not talking about shading and contouring, I am talking about one quick sweep of a brush and that's it. Pale pinks and peaches make you glow (obviously though you need to take your own skin color into consideration when choosing shades), and in case you can find 2 extra seconds sweep a breath of illuminating product on there are well. Or 'smudge'. I personally have a lovely illuminating powder, but am really into getting a Benefit Girl Meet's Pearl one day soon.
Lips. Soft and pampered lips are always nicer. But with a small child, forget full blown, heavy lipsticks and glosses! Besides kissing your baby a zillion times a day, your lips are going to be touched a lot too. For this reason, a nice tinted lip balm is what you need. I personally love Clarins Color Quench Lip Balm. Creamy, moisturizing, comes in a range of great fruity colors (although I do obviously prefer more delicate ones) in a practical squeezy tube and smells divine as well. Makes lips soft and luminous. For a non liquid alternative, go with Clinique's new Chubby Sticks. Pretty, practical and pampering. No sharpening needed. Does not get much better than this.
Nails. Always short!!! No risk of scratching your baby and is much lower in maintenance as well, not to mention that short nails are easier to keep clean. Try to find a minute or two during baby down time to apply a bit of clear or pale pastel polish to make your hands look impeccable (and have a tube of hand cream in every room not to mention ever bag you have!).
Hair. Again, a shorter style is way easier to keep looking presentable without investing a lot of effort, and if you can just keep it clean (meaning find the time for a nice shower) you can always just boost it with a nice colorful hair accessory or two. I plan to get a hair cut next week (am almost 7 months now) and plan to have one more a bit before giving birth. Lucky me though, I already have a shorter, curly style and am used to just get up and go. My hair takes no styling at all, and needs none for that matter. Even on the worst hair days, I just look like I have a deliberate "bed head" style going on :D

And then the +2 tips ;)

To get quickly back into shape, get yourself a pair of Reetones for those walks in the park! You need to spend no time or effort on workouts, but will get back into shape while about your daily routine ;)
For that extra touch of color and glam, ask your husband for a "Unconventional Diamonds" ring! Inexpensive (costs about 60 EUR) cute and glamorous, not to mention unlikely to hurt or scratch your baby. :)

Reflecting on (my) Eye Shadows

I think I have figured out what is wrong with the L’Oreal Infallible eye shadow I allowed into my mini stash (there had to be something, right?), and why at the end I am going to give also this last pink one up completely. Well ok, in honesty there is not actually anything truly wrong with these, don’t forget that all I write is my personal opinion, matched with my personal needs and taste (which are much more primitive than those of most makeup crazed ladies out there).

They are truly pigmented (which for most people is a good thing), last all day like a dream, and are easy peasy to apply with a finger tip/cosmetic cotton tip (even though I did swear in the past never to apply to eyes with a finger tip again after a swollen eye lid). However, although I do love the pink colour itself, I have gotten fed up with the shine this product gives. I want my eye colour to be luminous, but not plain out shiny. It is a shame, as this particular shade of pink would be perfect, if it was less shiny. I really love a nice satin sheen, or subtle shimmer even, but the full blown shine does get to me after a while, no matter how much I love the product otherwise.

In addition, after using it for about a month daily, with fingertips, certain parts on the surface of the product tends to “mirror over” and create harder spots in the otherwise creamy/powdery product (which is no wonder really due to the oil and other product residues on our fingers). I still find this irritating though as I am not really into scraping the surface of products or similar rescue missions. Moreover, it does truly deeply bug me that when I take off my glasses, the inside of the lens is full of small shiny particles, simply from being close to my eyes while wearing this eye shadow. The mess is just too much for my taste.

And then, Estee Lauder Pure Color, hello and goodbye! No matter how I love the shade once again, and how cool this little product looks, I have noticed that compared to the L’Oreal Color Lift Duo (which to be honest gives a good full working day performance, with perhaps a very light retouch around mid day), lasting power is practically nil. That is pretty lousy. So once again it seems there is the truth: the flame that burns too strong in the beginning burns out fast.

Therefore for the coming period I will just rely on the L’Oreal Color Lift Duo, and my beloved but recently neglected Too Faced Natural Eye Kit (and believe me there is no reason whatsoever to ignore this). After all if I don’t allow myself to get lost in playing, but simply apply a quick eye makeup it does not take too much time, and is rather practical and fool proof (with all those beautiful natural shades under one lid you can barely go wrong). Not to mention that from the 9 shades there is only two that are (unfortunately) a bit more shiny (and glittery!) than I would prefer. Let’s keep those for Christmas ;)

And then. Well then, there will also be something else coming up (or out to be more precise) this fall. Something that sounds almost too good to be true… ;)

Cosmetic SALES - How to shop smart

To 'celebrate' this summer's sales I decided to get a few additional items to my mini stash :) I did however go with very determined ideas of not buying anything too particular or too seasonal, but merely a few key items in colors that are not necessarily bond to seasonal trends or special releases, colors I actually gladly wear and feel comfortable in. For me personally these are peach/apricot, pink, beige, brown (for eyes) and even a nice aubergine/plum color for eyeliner (looks lovely with the right pink eyeshadow). With these colors I can always have a natural looking, simple makeup that is foolproof in any moment and situation while at the same time giving my face the color and light it needs.

I must say, this time I made it, mission accomplished! :D

First row:

1. Madina Milano blusher in No. 28. This is a pale to mid tone peach that is rather pigmented, so it takes a very light hand to get a nice healthy looking color. After application it also seems to have somewhat of a pinkish tint to it which is rather lovely. Stays put all day and is completely matte in finish. Paid 4 EUR for it.
2. Madina Milano blusher I think from this years limited edition summer collection. This one is basically a pink melange, but looks ever so lovely. Seems to be more delicate in pigmentation, so it gives me barely there pink cheeks, but that is exactly how I want it :) Also pretty much matte in finish, and lasting power, once again, is perfectly fine. This item was the most expensive one at about 9 EUR, but was totally worth it in my opinion.
3. This one is a pot lip gloss/lip illuminating thingie from an old collection called 'Stellar'. I usually avoid pot products but this one at 3 EUR looked too nice with its creamy pink color that has a very fine golden shimmer to it. It is a nice little item and leaves lips with a hint of light and some vanilla scent.
All Madina items were bought in their outlet shop.

And then of course I hit Sephora as well! :D

1. The first item is a quite simple lip gloss in a tube (I much prefer this version). Although it is supposed to be from the super shimmer line, I would not call this shimmery. The color I chose 'Apricot Souffle' is a very nude, transparent apricot shade with some silver particles in it (these glosses are indeed suggested for a natural makeup look). The result is glossy, not too long lasting, but not slippery enough to just slid off after a few minutes of application. It does feel comfortable on lips, and is not sticky or drying by any means. It does moreover have the exact same tutti frutti scent and taste like these God awful candies that I used to eat when I was a very little girl had. :D Well, as awful as that was as a candy, the aroma and scent of this gloss really takes me back, and therefore I rather like it. It is definitely not overpowering or offensive. The tube is quite big (10 or 15 ml, not sure right now and I don't have it under my hand) and on sale I paid some 3-4 EUR for it.
2. These are 2 liquid liners, in prune and taupe colors, both shimmery. Great colors, nice, short and quite firm brush that makes application easy (at least for me, and I am by no means a pro with liquid liners). All day lasting result. Actually these two really made me find a new, deeper appreciation for liquid liners. I mean at the end they are just simpler, more practical, quicker and need no maintenance (no sharpening). I might just cross over from pencil liners completely. These are by the way on a great offer now, as you can get 2 of them for 5 EUR!
3. A slightly silver shimmery, pale to mid tone nail polish from the metallic line (although also this one is by no means metallic luckily). Color called 'Classical'. Not much to say here, I have been using several of these polishes over the year, and I find them very good and reliable. Also this time I got a good quality polish (both as far as application, dry time and wear) and I recommend these to anyone who wants a nice polish for not too much money. On sale it cost me 4 EUR, but I would have gotten 2 for 6 EUR.
4. And last but not least a shimmery blush composed of 3 colors, called 'Rose'. This one definitely gives a more luminous makeup result by being shimmery, but it does look lovely applied with a gentle touch. I bought this most of all, because also the white stripe in the blush has a fantastic pink iridescence to it that I just could not resist. For 5 EUR, it is definitely a good purchase.

My Make Up Top 13

First of all, why Top 13? Because, after some additional selecting and rejecting, these 13 items are in total all the makeup I really use, and actually want to use. I mean there is simply no need for anything else.

I am not going into long discussions about my sometimes weird make up behaviors (which can be concluded with loving strong colors for about a month in total each year, and then running desperately back to my soft shades. Moreover collecting up items and then giving them away after using them 2 times, because deep in heart all I really want is to have those few, handpicked perfect items) like I did a few times in my more eloquent days. Most of you know me by now anyhow :D

I did however come to some conclusions and realizations today:
1. I do love rich textures and a heavy pop of color. In theory, and in their packaging. Wearing them makes me somehow too aware of myself, I am too "out there" and no matter how strange it sounds, by evening I feel really really dirty somehow. No matter how lovely a product, I just get fed up with it after a short couple of weeks (and that does not pay off economically).
2. I think I finally also have decided that I prefer slant tip tube glosses. Preferably creamy and nourishing.
3. Some smudged out eyeliner really makes for a great eyeshadow base. Never knew this until recently.

So let's move on to the Top 13:

KIKO Nail Lacquer 'French Pastel Pink'. Love this one! Such a clean and elegant shade. It makes your tips and toes look polished with the faintest hint of color, but nothing else. And that is all I want. Might look for other options though for the same or a very similar shade in the future.
Labello 'Pink Guava'. Lovely scent, and a lovely natural pink shade. Leaves lips happy and pretty. Good purchase for your 2-2.5 EUR. I might try a similar product from a different manufacturer, if I ever find one that looks appealing.
Lush 'Jackie Oates' multipurpose pigment. No matter what this is called, to me this is simply a tinted moisturizer, and an excellent one at that. I have never found anything tinted for my face that is not an actual foundation and cares this much for my skin, while making it appear just as much and as little made up (but smooth and even) as I want it to. It is a wonderful product, and I will stay faithful to it.
Garnier roller ball eye care/concealer thingie :D Love this (in light beige)!!! Does it's job wonderfully, costs little and lasts a really long time. I am tempted by some (way) higher end options of similar products, but at the end I will probably just repurchase this one. I mean there is actually nothing at all wrong with it.
A brown, preferably shimmery eye liner pencil. For now I still have some of my MAC 'Teddy' stash and hand, but then we'll see. But generally a brown shimmery eye liner is a must have in my make up routine.
A black eyeliner. This one is a L'Oreal 'Contour Khol', but that will probably change with the next one. Good, reliable product though.
Black mascara. Although I do love me a brown one, I need to own up to the fact that black is perhaps a tad bit more versatile (?). This one is L'Oreal Cil Architecte 4D, which I rather like, but I am not sure at this point what will be my next one.
Clarins Color Quench Lip Balm. I think this might be a huge favorite of mine. Creamy pampering texture, wonderful scent, and delicate but luminous shades (amongst which lovely pinks). Looks perfect and feels perfect for a price tag of about 13 EUR. Nothing to complain about here, and I think I will stick to it. Unless I see something similar that I won't be able to resist trying, then I might momentarily stride away ;)
Catrice 'Enter Wonderland' Highlighting Powder. Unfortunately limited edition, so I won't be able to repurchase when I finish these 8g in a very long time from now. Best (approximately) 5 EUR I ever spent. This highlighter is subtle and amazing with a cute and sturdy packaging. Perfect peachy pink shade and I adore it. I have always been fixated with illuminating products and highlighters, but never found one I actually liked using. Until now. For the future, when I finish this I might need to investigate a bit, but I do rather like the look of Benefit's 'Girl Meets Pearl'.
Essence Silky Touch Blush 'Adorable' . P-E-R-F-E-C-T. The must have shade (a barely there pink/peach) with a matte finish, and I paid 1.99 EUR for it. Need I say more? :D
L'Oreal Color Riche Serum Inside in 'Luminous Amber'. Called amber, but it is actually a peach shade if you ask me. Creamy, elegant, soft and pampering, I am loving this one big time.
Estee Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow in 'Sugar Biscuit'. Beautiful, rich, satin beige not to mention the killer design and packaging. Pure class. Really happy with this one regardless of the price tag.
L'Oreal Colour Infallible eyeshadow 'Forever Pink'. Pretty, shimmery, brings a good amount of light to your eyes and is really really long lasting. Like this one a lot, but then again hunting down the perfect shade of delicate pink is a challenge that might amuse me when I get to that point.

For many of these items you can already find separate and more detailed reviews here on my blog, for the rest of them it will arrive, I promise. Generally I prefer a pale pink/beige/peach look that brings me light, makes me look awake and healthy (not that I am sick in any way, but I do tend to look like it bare faced :D), and that is all how it should remain.

So now I guess the fun part will be to keep an eye on the market and see what new items meet my taste and requirements, while obviously keeping you updated all about it! ;)

L'Oreal Paris Glam Shine 6h Volumizer

I have always wanted one of these glosses, and now that I finally have one, unfortunately, I am not loving it. It is by no means a bad or disappointing product, just it does some things that do not agree with me.

The scent is a tad bit strange, but it disappears quickly, so I could live with that. The heart shaped applicator is handy, packaging and color lovely. 'Everlasting Melon' is a nice apricot/melon color with delicate golden shimmer that I think can fit most skin tones as it looks simply fresh and fruity. Even the texture is nice, smooth and creamy. In the beginning. About a minute after application though the nice cream sets into a sticky layer of film on your lips that does not budge unless you attack it with a bi-phase makeup remover. That is it does not budge, only clump together slightly, especially if you apply more than the thinnest layer imaginable. Ok, I knew this was a long lasting gloss, and on that it does deliver. I should perhaps not be so surprised by these less pleasant attributes of it.

What I can however not explain for the world of it, is why this stuff tends to end up on my teeth!!!(???) I mean a lip product that ends up on teeth was something extinct I thought, I have for sure not experienced anything similar for so long that I cannot even remember the last time. With this gloss it has happened though, repeatedly, and that is not cool. Not cool at all.

Oh well, I cannot love everything L'Oreal, and at least I still have the excuse "looking for the perfect gloss" at hand ;)
