From the scattering of glitter to the blocks of bright eyeshadow and vibrant graphic lines, it was all about the eyes at New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019. At Tadashi Shoji and Kate Spade, high-impact glitter eyes were paired with clean skin and bare lips to keep the look modern and fresh. At Rodarte, makeup artist James Kaliardos painted horizontal swatches of canary yellow, baby blue and fuchsia onto models’ lids using the newly reformulated NARS Single Eyeshadows in Douro, Baby Jane and Domination. To really up the intensity of the color, he pressed the pigment directly onto the eyelid with a medium-sized brush before buffing the edges. Then there were the “punky” wings seen at Alice + Olivia, which Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist Erin Parsons crafted with turquoise eyeliner (Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil Eyeliner in Silken Turquoise) topped with powder eyeshadow (the teal shade from Maybelline The City Mini Eyeshadow Palette in Graffiti Pop). And let’s not forget the good old cat eye, which popped up in different colors and forms this season. Models at Self-Portrait wore white graphic lines around the eyes (courtesy of Maybelline Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil in Cashmere White) […]

For the past few months, Glossier Lidstar has been my go-to for a wash of soft, glistening color that lasts all day. K The #Lidstar comes in a pink-capped tube and contains 0.15 oz/4.5 ml of product. There are 6 sheer yet buildable colors to choose from, which are mostly neutrals. All come packed with ultrafine multicolor pearls that are so pretty! I have Slip, a baby pink with gold shimmer and Fawn, a neutral taupe with violet shimmer. The doe foot applicator made application such a breeze and great even for beginners. You just dot it onto the lid then blend with a finger. Once the cream set within seconds, it stayed put all day without creasing – even san primer. Glossier Lidstar is available at glossier.com for $18. You can get 10% off your first purchase using this link. Disclosure: This review contains products that were purchased by us.

For Spring/Summer 2018, graphic eyes take on a new look in the form of rounded eyeliner, reverse cat eye and spiky lashes. At Jason Wu, a rounded swipe of dark green at the outer corners contrasted an otherwise ordinary neutral eye; while models wore a rounded glitter eye along the upper lid at Tom Ford. At Jill Stuart, the look was all about a reverse cat eye, with eyeliner applied onto the lower lashline and winged up and out. Finally at Cushnie et Ochs, graphic eyes took the form of clustered lashes, which lead artist Gato created by using coats and coats of Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara on the base of lashes pinching them together with his fingers.

Packaged in a slim, striped packaging inspired by a Marc Jacobs Collection dress, Marc Jacobs Fineliner Ultra Skinny Gel Eye Crayon is a an ultra-skinny version of the award-winning Highliner Gel Eye Crayon. Out of the 7 shades available, I went home with Truffle, a golden brown, that added definition to my dark brown eyes without looking harsh. Compared to the Highliner Gel Eye Crayon, the tip of the eyeliner was much smaller at just 2 mm. Despite its size, the tip did not break at all and allowed superb precision that let me easily create the finest to thickest line. The gel formula felt a little wet but glided on effortlessly without skipping or tugging the skin, making it perfect for tightlining and on the waterline. The color payoff was also great and I was able to get a solid line in just one single stroke. Like the Highliner Gel Eye Crayon, the wear was again water-proof and super long-lasting – no fading or smearing all day until I remove it with an oil-based remover. Overall, I am very happy with Marc Jacobs Fineliner Ultra Skinny Gel Eye Crayon. Can’t wait to add more colors to my collection! Marc […]

Packaged in a a clickable pen design for portability and ease, Aritaum Real Ampoule Brightener touts an all-in-one brightening formula that works as a highlighter, concealer and base. There are 2 shades available. 01 Pink Beige is a cool-based pink while 02 Skin Beige is more neutral and close to my NC20 skintone. Despite the claim that it contains 40% moisture to brighten without visible dead skin cells and dryness, the formula was semi-lacking in the hydration department. Even with an eye cream and primer underneath, the Real Ampoule Brightener felt dry and slightly cakey on my dehydrated combination skin. I definitely prefer M·A·C Prep + Prime Highlighter – which was much more moisturizing – over this. Coverage-wise, it also failed to deliver. The so-called “highest cover formula” which contains “pixel cover powder” and light-reflecting “skin clear powder” was not enough to cover up undereye circles or redness around my nose. Overall, I was pretty disappointed with the Real Ampoule Brighteners. While they may work for someone with oilier skin that do not require much coverage I will not be repurchasing. Aritaum Real Ampoule Brightener is available at www.aritaum.com for $7.46. Disclosure: This review contains products that were purchased by […]

Looking for new ways to line those gorgeous peepers of yours? Stila Cosmetics Global Executive Director of Creative Artistry Sarah Lucero shows us 3 ways that are quick and easy-to-do! Look #1: Bombshell Bardot Beauty • Apply a neutral matte eyeshadow like Stila Dune on your lids to create a clean canvas. • Draw the cat eye. This is the most essential part of Bardot-inspired beauty. Apply a thin line of black liquid liner beginning from the inside of your eye all along your upper lash line. Make sure you are closest to the lash line as possible. When you reach the corner of your eye, bring the eyeliner tip upwards as you extend pass the edge of the eye. Be sure to taper the line at the end, thinning the line out as it reaches its end point. You can go over the line a couple times to thicken the line or add a stronger angle. • Use a pencil to line your lower lids. A pencil is easier to apply when you want to line your lower rims. Draw the liner from the inside to the edge of your lower rims. Stila Kajal Pencil in Onyx is ideal […]
