so, i have been contemplating what to do with this site. i mean here is sits and could/should be doing a whole lot more. it is a near travesty that it has been nearly 7 months since my previous post. sad…terribly, terribly sad.

that said, i think i have finally hit upon what this place needs to be.

i have begun a new research project and need a place to amass my thinking, making and finding of materials. why not here? my topic is based on the need for craft in design thinking. of course, you can have an amazing idea, but if the execution is not there or done poorly, well then you really will have executed the idea. all the theory and grandiloquent thinking is not going to make an idea any better than the amount of workmanship / craftsmanship that goes into its production—its actual physical manifestation, if the hand and eye are not in accord—the idea is as well as dead upon arrival.

to that end, making & thinking from henceforth will function as an external brain (for me and any interested) on the intersections of craftsmanship, design thinking, design education, design theory, kinesthetic learning and the process of making and thinking though the hands and the haptic connection of materiality as a means to thinking and learning.

whew…grandiloquent indeed.

here is to hoping i can keep this sustained a bit longer than previous efforts.

i have been toying with the idea of making a print magazine for a while now.

well, i made one, and now you can see it (and even own a copy should you wish). it came in the post today and looks pretty good. check out something (the name of the publication) by clicking in the box called something {under musings (to the right of this)}. check out MagCloud to see the place that printed the magazine (look in >ART< and you should find it there). they have a nice collection of stuff.

the quality of the publication is good and the colors are near enough spot on. this is a small publication (only 12-pages), but like i said it was a test and i am happy. more to come i hope.

pretty cool, huh?
