US GovernmentMakes Making Biodiesel a Priority

The nation’s first comprehensive biofuels market development program is taking shape in Washington, thanks to the President’s directive for the department of Agriculture to agressively accelerate the investment in the production of biofuels.

The program is being formed by the USDA, Department of Energy and the EPA.

As biofuel production has slown down recently, many people fear that the US has become complacent in it’s movement to make biodiesel a viable source of energy that will release our dependence on foreign oil.

What this joint relationship in the government means is, expedited funding to biofuel producers as well as expedited funding to encourage biorefineries to replace the use of fossil fuels in plant operations by installing new biomass energy systems.

Many people these days are looking into making their own biodiesel. But for five years now, Michael and Lee Ann Conway have been heating their home with a biodiesel blend, regular home heating oil mixed with the grease and oil from restaurant fryolators and other cooking appliances.

“Every gallon that goes into Mike’s house is a gallon that did not have to be pumped in from the Middle East, the revenue isn’t going to support countries that don’t much care for us and put us on the losing end of the biggest wealth transfer in history”, said U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse.

The Conways are the end users of a circle of Rhode Island commerce that spawned a new company, Newport Biodiesel, which employs five people, that provides Cumberland’s T.H. Malloy Biodiesel and Heat with a dependable supply of fuels to distribute to customers and use in their own trucks, and relieves restaurants of their waste grease and oil.

Senator Whitehouse paid a visit to the Conways Monday to highlight the virtues of the locally generated biodiesel fuel. Whitehouse said Congress has passed tax credits and other benefits for blended fuels as well as renewable energy tax credits. “There’s a whole variety of support that Congress has created and there is further support now being considered at the state level.”

Jim Malloy of the Malloy fuel distributorship says his company’s fleet of 17 trucks have travelled about 1.7 million miles since they started filling up with biofuel in 2004.

Any diesel engine or oil furnace can run on biodiesel with little or no modifications.

The Biofuels Act, touted to be the first legislation of its kind in Southeast Asia, aims to promote the use, exploration and development of biofuels as an alternative source of energy, with the broader goals of reducing dependence on imported fuels; promoting the protection of public health, the environment, and natural ecosystems; and expanding opportunities for livelihood consistent with ensuring sustainable economic growth.

The law instituted tax incentives to encourage investment in production, distribution and use of biofuels. Locally manufactured and imported biofuel components (i.e., bioethanol and biodiesel) have zero (P0.00) specific tax while the gasoline and diesel fuel components remain subject to prevailing specific tax rates.

Sale of biofuels by the manufacturers shall be subject to zero percent (0%) VAT, since it is fuel generated from renewable sources of energy. Considering, therefore, that it is a zero-rated sale, the input tax directly attributable to such sale may be claimed by the manufacturer for issuance of a tax credit certificate or cash refund.

As the global economy will remain in a recession for most of 2009, demand for petroleum will remain low, however, by 2010 as things turn around, demand will rise and inevitably so will the price. Many people are letting their guard down right now and dismissing the importance of making biodiesel because of the comfortable price range of gasoline.

Southeast Asia has been very proactive in becoming a leader in the production of biodiesel and will inevitably be at the forefront of the transition to biofuels in the coming years. The US has a golden opportunity as well to be a leader in the new age of diesel, it’s just a matter of our nation embracing this change and grabbing hold of the opportunity to be a leader in making our own biodiesel.

If a local city truck is watering down your street this summer, you might detect a smell of barbeque, popcorn, or French fries coming from its exhaust pipe.

This aroma is associated with many city vehicle’s use of B99 – or 99.9% biodiesel – in their vehicles during the warmer months. During colder months, more petroleum-based fuel is mixed in to prevent solidifying.

Making your own biodiesel has caught on in many towns across America. Besides being eco-friendly, making biodiesel is financially a smart decision as well for many local businesses.

Biodiesel is not to be confused with ethanol, which is a gasoline replacement, distilled mainly from corn. Biodiesel is a replacement for traditional diesel fuel, and is extracted from vegetable oil.

Many people may not realize that their local community can be a good source of vegetable oil for the production of biodiesel. In many neighborhoods across the country, restaurants sell their used cooking oil to a local Biodiesel company for processing.

What is cool, is to take something that is considered waste, and make it into fuel that is cleaner burning – and have all of the money stay in the community.

Using Biodiesel in Your Car

What other impact does using biodiesel have on a local community? How about air quality. Using biofuel in your car cuts down on green house gas emissions by 78%! Running your car on biodiesel is healthy for your car’s engine as well. It will actually clean out your fuel intake system. The sludge and dirt that builds up from using petroleum diesel is removed by using biodiesel. If you have a high blend in your car engine, it is a good idea to have an extra fuel filter on hand. It also has higher lubricity than petroleum diesel, which reduces wear and tear on engines.

Using Biodiesel at Home

Individual households can also recycle their cooking oil. In these days of health consciousness, many households avoid making the deep-fat-fried donuts and French fries that once were family favorites, but deep-frying turkeys has become a choice for many, though a sometimes-hazardous one for those new to the process.

To learn more about vegetable oil conversion to biodiesel, or how to recycle used cooking oil, check out Biodiesel Recipesfrom David Sieg.
Yes, you can! (This is not an Obama sponsored post.)

Researching biodiesel? Let me tell you about it. There’s nothing worse than spending hours researching a subject only to find out when you go to use it, that it’s completely useless and outdated. That all the hours of preparation were for nothing…

…Been There, Done That…

…Or worse yet, finding out that it was put together by someone who didn’t know what they were talking about to begin with.

Until now, that is exactly what people have been doing. For less than the price of a take home pizza David Sieg’s report will show you how to make your own biodiesel at home.

Make your biodiesel wrong, and you could end up with a lot worse than wasted time.

Done incorrectly, it can be down-right dangerous…

…I know, I learned by trial and error…

Bio-diesel Formulas are not created equal!

Problem #1.) Many are outdated. Don’t get me wrong, they are well intentioned. Some offer some very good bio-diesel information. But many sites simply haven’t kept up with the advances in biofuel technology. I’m not trying to knock them, but it’s the truth.

Problem #2.) The time involved in searching, sifting, trying new bio-diesel formulas, and techniques, not to mention the expense, of discovering what works and what doesn’t, is considerable, to say the least.

Problem #3.) Some bio-diesel procedures, unless you know what you are doing, are downright dangerous. Not only are you risking destroying your engine, if you give it to someone else and it hurts their car, you’re looking at a lawsuit. You’ll learn how to stay on the safe side with this manual.

Hard-hitting, information you can use TODAY.

The household items you need to make Bio diesel cheaply.

How to make biodiesel test batches cheaply and effectively in your kitchen.

You’ll see exact formulas in easy to understand language, laid out in “cook-book” format.

Detailed, bullet-point instructions.
