ACCF Supports the Arts

The Armstrong County Community Foundation is proud to support the very successful, all-volunteer group Arts on the Allegheny.

The River City Brass Band entertained a large and lively crowd on the banks of the Allegheny River in Kittanning Riverfront Park last Sunday, July 13th.

Ford City’s own Drew Fennel wowed the crowd with his singing as well as his mastery of musical instruments and composition.

New Ag Lab visits Armstrong County

ACCF Board President and Armstrong County Commissioner Patty Kirkpatrick and a representative from the PA Friends of Agriculture Foundation welcome the Mobile Ag Lab to Armstrong County.

The lab will travel to schools, where teachers will lead students on an exciting discovery about how agriculture effects our everyday lives. Using the scientific method, students will learn how our rich Pennsylvania farmland contributes to our lifestyles, and the curriculum assists schools to meet the PA agriculture education standards.

The ACCF is happy to be one of the funders of this wonderful addition to our children’s education here in Armstrong County.

Another Pittsburgh 250 Community Connection

Community Day at Sugarcreek Park was one of the 7 Armstrong County events funded by the Armstrong County Community Connections grassroots grantmaking committee.

George Kepple had a great John Deere tractor on display.

We heard a barbershop quartet, and

enjoyed watching the children in the petting zoo.

Brotherly Love is Alive & Well

Cancer survivors wear purple shirts, and participate in the Survivors Walk at the Ford City Relay for Life. (Remember, if you are alive, you are a survivor!)

The Armstrong County Community Foundation is very proud to sponsor the Relay. The Ford City Relay is consistently the #1 per capita fundraiser in the country–isn’t that amazing? The 2007 FC Relay’s 51 teams raised $612,000.

“The American Cancer Society Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.” (From the program.)

You, Armstrong Countians, are wonderful, generous, inspiring people. Thank you.

Making Community Connections

You may remember me telling you about Community Connections, an inititative of Pittsburgh 250. Community Connections awarded both regional and grassroots projects in Southwestern Pennsylvania: the PA Friends of Agriculture Foundation was awarded $50,000 to construct a mobile science and agricultural laboratory to travel to schools thoughout Western Pennsylvania. Community Connections also awarded approximately $24,000 to 7 grassroots projects in Armstrong County, which you can view here. Stay up-to-date with all the happenings in your community and region with the 250 Calendar, to which you may also add events. Our local Armstrong County Tourist Bureau calendar of events is the most up-to-date information you can get for local celebrations–be sure to check it out!

My friend and Infinity member Sue mentioned that she saw a 5 cent deduction on her Shop ‘n Save receipt last week, and she thought it might have been a credit for using her Infinity reusable bags. Sure enough, I stopped for a few groceries and there is a 5 cent deduction for my reusable bag on my receipt! (Click on the photo for a cool effect.) If I only use my bag once a week, it will pay for itself in less than a year!
