6 Tips for Effective Article Marketing

You need to look at article marketing from the reader's perspective. Why did someone open an article and read it? What does the article do to get the person to click on the link to the writer's website?

Let's start by looking at the path you want the reader to take:

1. The reader sees an article title that interests him.
2. He opens the article and starts reading.
3. He reads all the way to the end.
4. He clicks on the link because he wants to know more.
5. The reader then arrives at your site, likes it, and opts in to your list and/or buys your product.

Now let's break this down and give you some tips:

The Title is everything.

If the title doesn't catch their attention, they definitely won't read the article. In fact, they probably won't get anywhere near your article. Your title needs to offer them something. What's in it for them? Can it solve their problem?

Your title should also evoke curiosity. "How To Take 5 Minutes Off Your 5K Time In Just One Week" would certainly get long distance runners' attention, and "The Number One Mistake New Parents Make" just begs to be opened. Other curiosity triggers are words like "Top 10 Tips", "Secrets To...", and "How I..."

Be sure your title contains your keyword phrases so the people who would be interested in reading your article can find you.

Another effective title technique is to make the title long so it stands out in the crowd. But be sure the title reflects what the article is about.

The first paragraph is also very important.

It needs to grab the reader's attention so they will continue reading. Be sure to inject your personality here as this interests people. You can also start explaining the problems that the article is then going to explain how to fix.

Consider the length of the article.

The length an article should be has been the subject of much debate. My take on it is if the article is too long, today's short-attention-span reader won't make it all the way to your bio box. If it's too short, it might not say anything, and certainly won't showcase your expert knowledge. Either way, they don't click on your link. 400 words is a middle ground and you can shoot for this.

Be informative, but incomplete.

Nothing bugs people more than reading an article that says absolutely nothing. What a waste of your time. And no way am you going to click on the link in their bio box because you feel cheated.

Give valuable information, but don't give it all. This is so they'll click on your link to find out the rest of the information. For example, your article can include 3 of your top 7 tips and the other 4 can be found on your website or in the product on your website.

Send them to the correct page.

Have you ever clicked on someone's bio box and found a link to a 404 page or you end up on a page that has nothing to do with the subject? Sometimes you'll see this when marketers link to their blog, rather than to the blog page where the rest of the info is. So when you go to their blog you start hunting around and then give up because it's a waste of time. Don't make that mistake.

Make your bio box work for you.

Instead of wrapping up your article with a conclusion and then the bio box, make the bio box the conclusion. And, don't conclude all the way - leave the door open a bit so they'll want to click through to your site to learn more.

Article marketing can be an effective tool to bring visitors to your site and help make you sales, but not if you don't do it right. Take these tips and use them to grow your article marketing efforts.

Are You Interpreting Your Article Marketing Stats?

You’ve probably heard the phrase “test everything” from every internet marketer you've come across. Well, how should you look at your article marketing and the whole testing thing? You don't want to write article after article, toss them out there, and see what sticks. Take the time to analyze your stats.

Analyzing doesn't have to hurt your brain, just take some time and look at what you've already done.

If you write articles in various niches, which topics get the most hits and why? Are they the subjects you're most interested in and write about with more passion? Maybe not. Are these the niches that make you the most money with affiliate products or AdSense? Are they popular niches, currently trendy niches, ones with really pressing problems, or holiday-related?

Another thing to zero in on is the category you chose to put the article in at the article directory. Sometimes your article could fit in a couple different categories but you have to choose one. If one category gets more hits for you than the other, you know where your next article should go.

Ezine Articles gives you some stats to look at and so does Google Analytics. Take the time to look at them and see what story they tell.

Now put on your detective hat and search a little further...

Use Google to see where your article is being published by searching for the title or an original sentence from the article in quotes. It’s neat to see the article on real, legitimate sites (with your bio intact) across the web. After you're through feeling important, analyze which articles are being picked up the most.
Check your website stats for hits from other websites. This means people have read your article at these other sites and clicked through your bio link. If another site is consistently publishing your content and they are a high traffic site, establish a relationship with them and offer to let them know when you have more articles ready. You can also offer to do a guest blog post for them.

If you're taking time to look at your stats, the most important thing you can ask yourself is why. This is especially true if you’re just getting your feet wet with article writing and marketing.

The next logical thing to do is to test. Test your article titles, keywords, article length, different bios, landing pages, and which article directories bring you the most traffic. Tweak and look for positive (or negative) results. As you learn from what you've gathered and adjust your marketing efforts, your traffic will grow and ultimately your income should increase.

Private Label Rights (PLR) products give any online business owner the opportunity to make money with very little overhead. And, that’s what we all want – more money coming in than going out. It’s easier when you can get a leg up on the competition right? That is possible if you put PLR content to use in your business.

Let’s start at the beginning. Private Label Rights content is content (articles, reviews, reports, eCourses, etc.) that is written by someone else for you to use as your own. Why should you use PLR Articles?

Well, it cuts down the time it takes you to produce an article. This can lead to you adding more content to your site more often, which can mean higher search engine placement (since the search engines like continuous fresh content). When you produce more content, people start noticing and you and your site can be seen as experts in your field. All of this can ultimately lead to more sales.

Here are my top tips on using PLR articles:

1. You don't have to rewrite PLR articles, but you should to make it more original and to add your own keywords. You'll also want to add any affiliate product links so you can make some money from your articles/blog posts.

2. Before you buy PLR articles, know what you want to do with it. You don't want to buy it and store it for a rainy day because you're going to forget it's there or feel nagged that you haven't used it yet. Go looking for PLR articles with its purpose already in mind. Have a list of your favorite PLR article writers so you can check in with them, or better yet, get on their lists as they will automatically inform you of any new PLR articles they've written.

3. Keep in mind you can make your PLR articles go a long way. A 500-650 word article can be broken up into 2 or 3 smaller articles for your blog or emails.

4. Think about adding to the article. For example, this article you're reading right now... you can expand on all the numbered points by giving further explanations and/or examples. If you do this, you could end up with a short report, or an article that could be cut into 3 articles.

5. Put lots of white space in your article. Your English teacher might not agree, but shorter paragraphs are king with online marketing. You don't necessarily have the reader's attention for very long, so make it easy on their eyes. People want to be informed or entertained in smaller doses, not feel like they're back in school reading a textbook.

6. Always throw out the original title because other people have the same PLR and won't bother to change the title. You want to be original. Besides, you need to put your keywords in the title to bring in the traffic.

7. Don't spend a lot of your time rewriting. If you start with quality PLR articles, it shouldn't be a time-sink to rewrite it. The whole reason you're using PLR articles is because the research has already been done for you and it's quicker than writing an article from scratch.

Using PLR Articles can give you an advantage - less work and time involved than writing your own article. It's also a lot cheaper than hiring a ghostwriter to write your articles or blog posts. The more PLR articles you put to good use, the faster you can grow your Internet business.

How to Write a Successful Article

Are you looking to create articles that reach their audience each time? A successful article can drive traffic to your site or an affiliate site as well as increase your sales.

There is a knack to writing a successful article. If it was simple, every article would be a hit. Fine tune your article to reach its intended target each and every time with amazing results.

The Basics

If you break it down to the basics, each article has a general structure.

You have the title. The title is used to grab the reader’s attention. When you read the Table of Contents in a magazine, you skim the titles of the articles to see if it peaks your interest. The title tells what the article is about but with a twist so the reader will turn to that page.

The article is divided into paragraphs. Paragraphs are kept within a certain sentence limit to make the information easier to read and absorb. A paragraph that had fifteen sentences is a big mouthful and will lose more than one reader.

The first paragraph is the introduction. It states the case for the article. If it leaves the reader scratching their head, they won’t continue to read.

The last paragraph sums up the main points of the article. An article without a conclusion ends abruptly and doesn’t reiterate what you want the reader to remember.

Skills You Didn’t Learn in School

Each article has a purpose. If you don’t know that purpose, your article won’t reach anyone.

Know your target audience. If you are trying to reach gardeners, then the article shouldn’t be about cars. That’s an obvious point but some articles can be about gardening and still miss their target. Why? It could be lack of understanding of the topic or lack of the skill needed to convey your thoughts successfully to the audience.

Know your writing style and give it a convincing voice. Trying to write humorous articles when you haven’t a funny bone in your body will not work for someone trying to instruct potential comedians on breaking into stand-up comedy. You may need to pass on that assignment. Writing styles that are not compatible with your voice will come across as insincere to the reader. They need to hear and feel your passion through your work.

Make your writing format easy to read. Use bullet points and numbered ideas. Both of these techniques break up the look of the article and make it easier on the eyes. Readers can digest an article faster with changes in text like this. Also, they can skim the bullet points and numbered text to see if the article will meet their needs.

Use numbers in your title whenever possible. Which title will get more attention: How to Sew a Pillow or 5 Steps to the Perfect Pillow? Numbers let the reader know exactly what they are getting and in how many parts.

Article marketing is a good way to bring traffic to your website or blog. In fact, it's the marketing tool of choice for many people because it's free to do and can have some amazing results. But note that while writing articles is free in a monetary way, it will cost you your time.

So make the most of your time with these article writing tips:

1. Keywords In Titles And The Article

Put your keywords in your title and in the article or don't bother writing it. That's a strong statement but why write your article if no one is going to see it, let alone read it and click through to your site? Do you due diligence with some keyword research. You can buy keyword research or do your own using free tools such as Google's Adword keyword tool.

2. Titles Worth Clicking

Before you can get anyone to click on the link to your website, you have to encourage them to read your article. To start, you need to have a good title that will catch people's interest. This may feel like you're putting together a puzzle but you need the keywords as well a reason for them to want to read your article. What's in it for them?

So the answer is to put out quantity with quality.

4. Leave Them Wanting More

It's important to give information in your article, but don't tell the reader everything. Leave them wanting a little so they'll want to click through to your website to find out the rest of the story. There's a fine line here, but you can get it with a little trial and error and practice.

5. Provide A Call To Action

Don't put a conclusion in the body of your article. This is like saying "Well, nice talking with you, bye". No, you want to let them know there's more tantalizing info awaiting them at your website. Maybe you've just explained how to solve one problem in training their puppy, but you address all the other irritating puppy misbehaviors at your website. Telling them they can have something for free over at your site doesn't hurt either. So no conclusion; but a call to action.

The above tips are meant to help you along in your article marketing. The bottom line is getting people to read your article and click on the link to your website. After that, it's up to your website to convince them to buy something from you.
