Have you ever heard of this show? Well my little boy has started to like it recently. I have discovered that I really like it, sometimes I kind of persuade him into watching it.
ANYWAY the reason I bring it up is because he told me that he wants a Perry the Platypus cake for his birthday in 2 months.
So now I have to come up with an idea for it...any suggestions?

Bad Hair Day

Have you ever had one of those days, weeks...perhaps years where you can't figure out why your hair just looks like..crap?
I have those all the time, but I am an over scheduled Mommy so it is all my own fault.
My hair stylist (who happens to be my gorgeous and talented sis-in-law) has an AWESOME blog all about hair and make up.
She goes into all of the do's and do not's of how to put on your make-up and how to take care of your hair.

Believe me she knows her stuff. SHe is the only one who I have let touch my hair for at least three years now and she keeps it in great condition.

Re-do your candles Tutorial

So..are you like me and really really dislike the price of candles? I purchased these rust colored ones a long time ago and they used to match my decor but now that I have completely changed my living room they sort of stick out like a sore thumb.

So what should I do with them?
I mean these 3 little candles cost me at least 10 bucks and I didn't want to have to run out and purchase new ones when I had these perfectly good ones just lying around.
Plus I have a bunch of other things that I want to spend the $10 on...perhaps some new shoes or ice cream...
Anyway here is my solution.

All I did was tape some pretty paper to the candle.

Wrap the paper around the candle and then tape.

As my cool cutter is lost I just trimmed the bottom up with some scissors.

Then I traced the bottom of the candle and cut out a circle for the top, poked a hole in the middle for the wick and VOILA!

The new cost of these cute candle was .59. I got the paper at Hobby Lobby for half price. :)

So I love this blog. I love that I actually have followers. I love that even though I have neglected it for a month I still have people checking in. I am not gonna make any promises that I will be a better blogger but I will try to do an update at least once a week. That will be my goal. I just have a ton of things going right now that HAVE to be done and this is just not number one priority right now.
Me and the hubs have been working on a bunch of projects though so it will be fun to show them off.
Look for a new blog post sometime in the next week with our big summer project :)

Composition Book up-do

This week I have been playing host to my super cute and sassy 11 yr old niece, McKenzie.
She and I have been doing all sorts of things this week and I have to say that she has been super...and I mean super SPOILED.
One of the things I love about her is that she is crafty. Since she was a little girl she has loved art and anything that involves crafts. ANYWAY she kept drawing in a book all week and I told her that we could make her drawing book a whole lot cuter and she was on board. I also thought that while we were at it we might as well make a few more for her school subjects. Here is what we came up with.

Argh, so I have not been able to Blog as much as I would like to as of late. I am sure those of you who regularly stop by have noticed.
Well I do have a reason..well 2 reasons and they are actually acceptable excuses.
1st excuse is I have gone back to school and I am currently taking the devils subject..I mean Math. I have a very complicated relationship with Math....I guess you could just say that I really stink at it so needless to say it is taking a HUGE amount of my time lately.

The 2nd of my absence excuses is because my hubby and I have been working on one of the BIGGEST home improvement projects that I think we have ever taken on. It is also taking tons and tons of time. Plus it makes my muscles hurt. I think I may have already gone through a jar of Ibuprofen..seriously. I had better be built after this :)

The best thing is that my part of the improvement project will be done by next Tuesday night and then I will get to sit back and watch someone else do the work...wanna sneak peek of what it is? ..... Too bad. HAHA.

Candy Bar Pie

While I was at girls camp a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of eating some pretty tasty food. One of the best things I had was this pie that a fellow leader had prepared.
Can I say yummmmm!

The best part is that it only takes a little bit of prep and barely any time to throw together.

Here are the ingredients:

Vanilla Ice cream, Whipped topping, candy bar of your choice, caramel ice cream topping, Magic shell Chocolate topping, Graham cracker Pie crust.

The prep for this is simple. First take the ice cream and whipped topping out of the freezer and let it thaw out a bit so it is easier to spread and mix.

The second thing is to bash up your candy bars. That's right grab a meat mallet and take out your aggression on your tasty treats :)

Sample the candy to make sure the taste is right...

yep mine is good.

Now lets get down to making this yummy dessert.

Take your graham cracker crust and your magic shell Chocolate. Squirt a bit of the chocolate into the shell.

and then make sure you swirl it around to coat the bottom.

Next take your ice cream that has slightly thawed...(You will only want about half of your container)
and your whipped topping (half of this container as well) and combine them with your pre-bashed candy bars. (leave a bit of candy bar to spread on top when finished)

After you have mixed it all up take about half and spoon it into your pie crust and then top it with some more of that magic shell and caramel sauce.

Next take the remaining half of the mixture and smooth it all out.

Take the remaining part of the candy bar and sprinkle it over the top and add some more of that caramel for good measure.

Here you have it, a very simple and tasty dessert compliments of my friend Camille...thanks by the way Camille, I am addicted ;)

Candlesticks

I bought these candlesticks FOREVER ago and I love them. They have so much detail and are different from anything that I have ever seen.
The Problem is that they are kind of hum drum. They don't really match any room especially the room that they are currently sitting in which is the living room.
So what do I do with these lovelies? I really love them and don't want to get rid of them, so I am going to ask your opinion on what should be done...

I have thought about painting them white and then glazing them. Spraying them turquoise or a dark brown.

What do you think?

Fourth of July Hairbow Tutorial

I wanted to make a cute 4th of July hair bow for my cute little K-La girl.
I have only ever made one really simple type of hair bow before so this was a definite trial and error but it turned out okay.

First off I gathered all of my supplies that I would need. I had 2 types of ribbon, a button, hot glue, scissors & an alligator clip.

The first thing that I did was to cut the ribbon to the sizes that I would need for the bow. I cut 2 lengths in the blue ribbon and 4 in the red and white ribbon. All of these were the same length. I also cut one more length of red & white ribbon to cover the clip.

The next step was to fold the lengths of ribbon in on themselves and glue them so they formed a ring.

The next step was to glue all of the rings in the middle so they laid flat.

They looked like this when they were all glued. Note just use a little dot of glue. Don't glue down the whole middle.

The next step was to decide on how each layer should look
I then glued them together making sure to always keep the ribbon seams down.

The fifth step was to glue the 2 layers together.

The next step was to get the alligator clip ready to be glued on to the base of the bow.

Here is a reminder of what to use for this.

Glue the ribbon on the flat side of the clip as shown.

Hold the ribbon tight as you fold it around the clip and glue it to the top of the clip.

Continue to glue the ribbon down the rest of the clip keeping it open so you don't glue the 2 sides together and then tuck the ribbon under the clip and glue it down as well.

Flip the bow over and glue the alligator clip to the bow.

I just glued the clip to the lowest ribbon, which also happened to be the thicker ribbon.

Flip the bow back over and glue your button in the middle.

I liked the look of this so much that I made a larger one for my 11 year old niece.

Photography Giveaway

I have two beautiful sisters, they also both happen to be extremely talented. My older sister, Aimee can make anything. She sews, crafts...etc. Basically anything you ask her to do she can do it and she often makes up her own patterns. I will be doing a giveaway for some of her fun things at a later time.

Today's giveaway comes from baby sister Sarah.

She is an AwEsOmE photographer! Let me put my disclaimer in now. Sarah is not a professional. She just does this as a hobby because she absolutely loves capturing the little moments.
As she is not a pro her rates are pretty great. Don't let me sway you. I am not saying she is good because she is my sister. She really has talent in taking pictures and she is happy to be giving a free 1 hr. photo session to anyone either living in UT county or willing to come on down for the shoot.

This is open to any type of pictures that you would like to take. i.e engagements, family, self.....the only thing that it is not open for is wedding pics.

Girls Camp 2011

So I have been gone for a week because I was at Girls Camp with some of the most fabulous people that I know. I had an AWESOME time. We hiked delicate arch and went river rafting and had tons and tons of fun, plus some really good food.
I will post some pictures when I am able to get some. I forgot my camera so I will have to con someone into giving me some of their pics.

I LOVE Spring

Spring reminds me of so many things, but one of my very favorites are Lilacs.

Growing up we had 2 HUGE lilac bushes in our yuard. The smell when you stepped outside was wonderful, luckily when the hubby and I bought our house there was a lilac bush growing just outside our back door.

Every time I go in the backyard I get to smell the wonderful perfume coming off of that wonderful bush.

I really wish someone somewhere could bottle this smell without making it smell old lady-ish.

Leggy Lady Face-lift

Well she has just gotten the face-lift. I think that it may have been a botched job though... Needless to say I still haven't decided whether or not I like it.

I am pretty set in my colors that I like and this is a step outside the norm for me. I really think that is the whole problem with it. My husband really likes it and I think he has convinced me to keep it this way for at least a year.
I do like that it adds a bit of sunshine to my porch.

Here she is getting primed. I prefer to do my spray painting outside so that the smell dissipates faster but it was super windy the day I primed her so here we are in my garage. I used Kilz spray primer (great primer, you should check it out)

I used Krylon's Bright Idea in gloss for the yellow color. To see her before click here

Do you see how well my herbs are growing?

Who knew that I had a green thumb..
I think I will move the herbs to be on the steps and put flowers on the leggy lady though. I think that the herbs hide her and after all this work I want to show her off a little more.

I think that some pretty orange, red and yellow zinnias will be beautiful with her.

What do you think? Is it a botched job or do you like it?

Robot Cake for the G-Man

It was recently my little boy's birthday. His name is Garrett but we call him G-Man. I know what you are thinking..and yes he is the cutest little boy you have ever seen, yep he takes after his super cute daddy. I know, lucky me ;)

One day he and I sat down at the computer to look at the Betty Crocker Cake decorating website found here. He went NUTS looking at all of the cakes. They have a ton of how to videos. We had to watch almost each and every one including the barbie princess cake. One in particular caught his eye (glad it wasn't the barbie princess cake) and best of all it was one that I, an extremely impatient person could handle.

It was a Robot cake. To say that it was cute was a complete understatement. If I do say so myself I rocked at copying... this cake. To see the original click here.

How did mine turn out you ask...well take a gander and see for yourself.

Okay Okay so I have spacing issues with the rollers (cookies) but eh...does it really matter to a 3 yr old?...nope.
I will say one thing for this cake is that you really need to take your time. In the videos they let you know that you need to chill the cake basically after every step. THIS IS A MUST.. the cake will crumble and so will you if you do not find a space in your fridge to keep it for a while.

The board that I put it on was super easy as well. I just took an old cardboard box, cut it to the right size and then I covered it in wrapping paper. Like I said Easy Peasy.

They also provide templates that can be printed out so that you don't even have to worry about figuring out how to cut the cake so that it turns out right.

Leggy Lady

Well my leggy lady is going to be getting the facelift. My sister (the same one I dragged all around Tai Pan) and I spent about 30 min in Wal-marts' spray paint aisle.
I hemmed and hawed between three colors.
Yellow, Turquise or Orange.

What color do you think I chose? You will just have to keep tuning in to find out. I can't spray paint her yet cause it is May 29th and there is still snow on the ground in parts of Utah and plenty of rain to go around. As soon as it lets up I guess my plant stand will get the remake of her dreams

Remember that leggy lady? Here she is with some new potted herbs. I normally put flowers in the pots but this year I thought that I would make an attempt at growing my own herbs. They are always so expensive at the Grocery store and I like to use a lot of fresh herbs when I cook so it just made sense.

The green looks so pretty against the dark brown of the soil. It has been a week and I haven't killed them yet. I think it is a record :)

In one of my wanderings around Tai Pan Trading a few years ago I cam across this leggy lady. I fell in love with her immediately. BUT I left her. I knew that I really had no need for her and no space to put her. I walked on but my mind was on that lady the whole time.

I dragged my little sister all the way back to the beginning of the store. I had to claim her before anyone else felt the love that I did.
When I got back to claim her, she was gone. My heart fell. I knew I wouldn't find another like her anywhere. So off we went with my shoulders slumped. How could I have done that? Well I did have one other purchase to make so to the cash registers we went and what do you think I found shoved in a little corner WAY out of the way? My little leggy lady.
I grabbed her up and had a new skip in my step. But then I had a dilemma of what to do with her. So she sat in the corner of a room for a long looooong time, until that day that my brain finally started to work. She would fit perfectly on my front porch with some cute little potted plants. So out she went and she has been there ever since.

I would be lying if I told you that I wasn't a little paranoid that she was going to be stolen.

Sadly she has lost her glistening beauty and is now a little dirty and in need of a facelift.

Now to decide on what color she should become...

Doesn't this look just like Summer?

I love to eat. I love all the foods that summer brings. Fruit, Hamburgers, Icecream. Well I didn't want to wait any longer.
I recently had a mango and some strawberries in the good old icebox. I dug em out and diced em up all pretty. Slathered some yummy poppy seed dressing on them and sat down to enjoy the tastes of Summer. Heaven...at least one of my versions of...

My mind was thinking of swinging in the park and swimming. Too bad my mouth was thinking BLECH. Turns out the strawberries hadn't realized they were supposed to taste like Summer. Instead they tasted like they were picked way to early. Well at least the Mango was good and I have learned my lesson on forcing Summer to come early.

The Importance of Being....Primed

So it starts. The painting of the living room. If you remember I started with this beautiful shade of chocolate brown.

I loved it. I still love it. Alas it is long gone. It just made my already dark living room look like the inside of a cave. I think it also made everything look a little drab. A new color, a drastic color change had to be made.
Can I tell you the importance of priming?
I have a red kitchen. I LOVE the color red in kitchens but 5 years ago when my cute hubby and I painted it we didn't understand the value of a good prime job. Needless to say it took around 7 coats of this beautiful red to cover my walls and actually look red.
I have learned my lesson and went out and purchased a big fat 2 gallon bucket of Kilz 2 primer. It is a great primer and it really did a great job.

This is the picture of the first coat.

Yes I said first. Remember how dark the walls were. I want and need to have as much good coverage as I can get so my next beautiful colors will show in the way that Behr intended them to look.

Yahoo!!! The walls are all primed and ready to be painted.

Chipotle Lime Marinade

I recently attended a cooking class that was put on at our local grocery store. The teacher was my friend and neighbor Kritsy G. Can I say what an awesome teacher she is! She had some really awesome and SPICY dishes for us to try. There wasn't time to teach all of the recipes but she did cover how to make all of them. One in particular caught my eye. The Chipotle Lime Marinade.

3 jalapeno peppers (seeded and chopped)
1/2 cup packed cilantro leaves
2 garlic cloves
2 med shallots
1/3 cup rice vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
juice of 2 limes
1 tsp. salt
3 Tbs honey

Puree everything except the olive oil and lime juice together. After everything is mixed together with the machine still running add the oil and lime juice slowly.

Marinate chosen meat for at least 3 hours.

Now this has the potential of being pretty hot so I backed off a bit just to make sure I could handle it. I am not a light weight when it comes to spice but I do know that her family likes things as spicy as it can get.
I added only 1 jalapeno, I think that I backed off a bit too much but the end result was still a very tasty piece of chicken, it tasted almost sweet. I cut it all up and threw it in to some fajitas...Yum.
I will definitely be trying some of her other recipes and I would very much recommend trying this one out. Super good and extremely easy to throw together.

* Be very careful when you cut up the jalapenos..if you are a face toucher, eye rubber like I am I would suggest some latex gloves. Nothing hurts worse than adjusting your contact with a jalapeno covered finger :(
