The Mozambican government plans to build a new power transmission line linking
the central and northern regions of the country, the national director for
Energy, Pascoal Bacela told Mozambican newspaper Notícias.
According to Bacela, the new line may link up Caia (in Sofala province) with
Nampula and Nacala (Nampula province), and the other possibility is the
Tete-Nampula-Nacala route. The project is currently at the pre-feasibility study
stage.
Maputo, Mozambique --- MININGREVIEW.COM --- 23 November 2011 - Brazilian mining giant Vale has stated that it may be prepared to share with other users the Tete-to-Nacala railway line, an important strategic link that cuts across Malawi on its way to Mozambique's undeveloped deepwater port.
Responding to questions at the Coaltrans Mozambique conference here, Marcelo Matos, general manager of marketing and sales for Vale's coal division, did point out, however, that there were conditions that would have to be negotiated.

Mr Finlayson during a visit by the President of Mozambique to Rio Tinto’s facility in the Karratha region, some 1,300 kilometres from the city of Perth, said that the Zambezi was an interesting alternative to the Nacala railroad as the distance between Moatize and the port was 900 kilometres by rail and only 500 kilometres by river.
