Silat and Street fighting

I have this argument many times before. Such people were always ready, whether they know it or not to condemn their own culture. Some of them claimed that the people these days have no Silat. It looks stupid to the "Pencak run" to fight in a street. Allow me to this problem.

Who says you need the "Pencak" run into a street fight? Only stupid people would do more. As with other martial arts, there are theories and practice. The real battle, the odds are 50-50, depending on how well you have reflections. Silat is all about generating great ideas. If you can master the theory and practice, they always, you are actually building an invisible "shield" in you. Practice makes perfect. In Silat, everything is there for you to learn. It's like going to school.

We learn everything, but all is not apply in our lives. At the end of the day we are one who chooses and decides what, who, when applicable, where or what we learn in our daily lives. The decision we make and how we report the results for the success or failure. Depending on how well we manage ourselves.

Personally I have never participated in a battle to fight, because the last thing I want to do. I prefer things in a diplomatic way if possible. This is also a great value in learning Silat I deserve. To win is to not only fight. Win with your mind instead of your power. Speaking of reflections, there was a time when I was a shop in my village, I closed my neck from behind. In a few seconds was the aggressor for me to lock the hand. Well, it's just my friend, in an attempt to a joke. But then, you ask a shot in the head, "as I have a lock on it right now?"

Then I realized the power of thought. Maybe that was my "guru" always reminds us of the practical, non-stop. Well, it is not easily persuaded to love people and to learn Silat, as we humans. We have our own interests and dislikes. But I hope that my "to chat" here to help people understand, it is not only hidden to Pencak Silat and "Dance" sign "of the invisible warrior. Strong muscles are only tools. They are without a brilliant mind to fight it unusable.

Seni Silat Malay archipelago has five aspects persilatan as a union. Based on these five aspects can be distinguished in five categories of knowledge persilatan Malay archipelago (This does not include athletic silat), namely:

1. Pencak Silat art and art.
2. Silat martial arts
3. Seni Silat mysticism
4. Seni silat moment in energy
5. Seni Silat in energy

Pencak Silat purpose of art is a movement when it contains elements that soft and hard elements quickly or slowly and with dance and movement was a moment and killing attack or stroke in the martial meaning. Clearly every movement arts Pencak Silat is a means every movement is like talking with a distinctive style and full of artistic and ESTATIC.

Meaning that more ART means 'the Living' PENCAK SILAT is the structured movement. When it merged clear 'THE MOVEMENT OF LIFE-structured (Flanders)'.

Kris an ancient weapon

With its wavy razor sharp blade, the kris was the favourite weapon for pancak silat, the Malay art of self defence, for close quarter combat. In fact, the kris was widely used and carried by most Malay men even up to the end of the 19th century.

The kris was an essential part of Malay society, not just for its defensive or destructive mode but widely used as part of the traditional Malay ceremony.

Even today, it is very seldom that a Malay groom has not one tucked on his waist during his wedding ceremony. Many families kept krises for their alleged spiritual and protective prowess. Some are even handed down from generation to generation.

In the Malaysian legend of Hang Tuah, the kris named Taming Sari played a pivotal role. In Brunei, the legend of Bendahara Sakam and his men running amok among the Spaniards during the Castille War (1578), is always drawn with everyone's kris unsheathed. Through the centuries, the kris is the symbol of Malay heroism.

The kris was also said to be of Javanese origin. In fact the word keris is said to be a Javanese word and is derived from the word "ngeris" meaning to stab or pierce. Up to now, the kris' true origin is still debated. Indonesia, during the Majapahit rule, laid strong claims to be the origin as most mystic stories about the krises emanated from there.

It is also said that the earlier krises were endowed with mysterious powers by their makers. The powers could be good or bad, depending on who made them.

Though the exact origins of the Southeast Asian martial art of Silat are unclear, due to lack of written historical records, it is said to have developed based on human observation and limitation of animals including the monkey, eagle and tiger. Silat was historically used in the many wars between various indigenous tribes of the Malay islands. Later, when the region was occupied subsequently by the Portuguese, Dutch and British, Silat was largely practiced in secret. Japanese occupation during World War II largely destroyed British rule in the region, and the Malayan states began establishing their independence immediately following the war.

Silat--which can be translated as “to fight” or “to fight in self-defense”--is most commonly practiced in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore and the Philippines. In Malaysia alone, some 500 styles of Silat exist; Indonesia, where the art is known as Pencak Silat, boasts 200 more. Interest in Silat has grown exponentially in the 20th century, and it is now practiced all over the world. Malay cultures prize Silat as a self-defense system, a sport and a way of life; they see it as teaching moral as well as physical discipline. The International Pencak Silat Foundation, founded in 1980, has been working since then to promote Silat and to get the sport included in the Olympic Games.

Silat fighters use a balanced array of offensive and defensive techniques, sophisticated footwork and intricate hand motions, which are learned in stages as each fighter grows more advanced in his or her training. Fluid and precise motion is crucial to Silat’s complex system of arm and hand strikes, kicks, grappling and throws. Fighters sometimes train with weapons, including knives, swords and long or short sticks.
