Calling all Video Game Vixens and Vampires! Me and my crew of leatherclad vamps starring...

Corinne Irizarry, Kessie Griffin, Jenna Purdy, Tasha Edwards, Magdalene Bullock and of course, yours truly, will be doing a guest appearance fashion show at Club Pangaea March 9^th at 10914 South La Cienega Blvd near LAX.

This is a public event. Fetish wear encouraged but not mandatory and all expressions of gender welcome. Please be aware this is a LBGT sponsored event. If you have questions about that, look it up. If you can’t handle it, don’t come. This is LA. Here in the Jungle we accept all kinds baby. These people are great performers and my girls are, well…you’ll see! Possibly as vicious as me!

Cover is: $10 before 10:30, $15 after, and as usual, we will have a number of artists and vendors selling their wares, so bring a bit of extra pocket money.

Stage show will begin around 11:00 pm and ends at 2 am. My vampires will feast through the night with my camera crew (yes we are filming the stage show for a pilot I'm in) and then take the stage to end the evening. We will be doing the catwalk and ending with a "popping" surprise". Luda would be proud. I will be outfitting all the guys and girls of the Pangaea show too so you just never know what you might see. You're little box of a world will never be the same. You can thank me later baby!

Being the Evil Queen in Happily Whatever After has been quite a learning experience for me. The cast taught me so much and our Director Chris Berube has been such a wonderful teacher to me. I feel from every performance I learn how to be a better actress. How to have better timing, how to deliver my lines in a way that will entertain the audience better than the last time I performed.

When people ask me what is the best way to learn how to act, I will now say, "Improv first, then live theater". It teaches you how to dissect a script, how to hit your marks and do it naturally as if those words were your own.

Yes Margie Haber Studios is a wonderful school and I believe everyone should go there if they can afford it. Improv is the first and last skill you should master as an actor, but having a background in theater is something that everyone should have in order to be successful. I highly recommend you see Chris Berube's plays.

I will be the Evil Queen for 7 more weeks and then Im off on another project.
Another great thing about theatre is you can do tv and film by day and perform once a week on stage. Come and see me before I give my crown to someone else!

"Happily Whatever After" opening night

Opening night was a blast. I wasn't as freaked out as I would normally be because the day before we performed in front of some kids. Kids are the best judges of a good or bad performance, so by the time Tuesday came around, I was as ready as I could be.

It has been a pleasure outfitting the cast. All my strange fashion finds finally found a purpose! Here are some photos for you. Please remember there was no flash photography allowed.

The Princesses looked right out of Disneyland, but better and the King and I...looked as hateful as we were. Our huntsman/wolf has a fantastic Aussie accent that really adds to the show. Ariel really does look like she came out of the ocean. Our princes are all so handsome you wonder if they are old enough to drink. Oh, and I can't forget Red. She is such a bad ass. And our King acts larger than life...like a wicked scary santa!

Our writer/director Chris Berube has successfully combined all the Grimm's fairy tales into one story that is truly touching. He is a genius and a wonderful kind man to work for.

Happily Whatever After

I am so excited to announce the production of Happily Whatever After. I am the Evil Queen...imagine that!

Whatever will I wear? Muahahaaaa! I plan on at least 3 costume changes and lots of crowns. I even have ball gowns and princely costumes for the cast. Yes, I want it to look like La Triviata at Teatro alla Scalla! Why not I say! All those costumes are just sitting in my vault anyway. Might as well use them. This script adheres to the original Grimm's Fairy tales which I've learned are quite dark. By a stroke of genius our Director/Writer, Chris Berube has woven in Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and many others into one compact story that is frightening, hilarious and tear jerking.

Embrace Yourself!

For years I tried to "wash the goth off me" to fit into a mold of the girl next door for Hollywood. My managers at the time thought I was painting myself into a corner being my big gothy bodacious self. So, reluctantly, I changed my headshot and cut my hair. That was about 4 years ago. It didn't help my career.

A few weeks ago, a very cool, tough casting director A. Renee told me to be myself. She agreed I was too vavavoom to play a girl next door type anyway. What music this was to my ears! I had been needing this advice for a long time. I never minded being typecast as the bad guy, the seductress, the witch, the cop, etc. After all, I do have firearms and MMA experience, wear big jewelry and swear too much. Between that and my figure, I AM the Queen of the Damned...or at least I play the best one ever on TV. I recently auditioned by reading a part where the wife is abused and shoots and kills her husband. I NAILED it. The week before, with Ms. Renee I bombed her cute housewife comedy to hell. I've never been so embarrassed. BUT, she told me what I'd been praying to hear. STICK TO MY TYPE!So even though I ruined my audition, her advice was priceless. Have you ever noticed in every cartoon and movie, the bad girl/sorceress/queen is almost always dark haired? You'd be surprised how many characters I have been the concept model for. Princess of Mars for John Carter, The Sorceress in the Sorcerer's Apprentice played by Monica Belluci, I even posed for the concept drawings when she played Mary in Mel Gibson's Jesus Movie.

The list goes on, but you get the idea. Notice how much a concept changes from when the artists do it to when it hits the big screen....Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's a shame.

Because of Creative Director, Vikie Collette at www.aiastudios.com and Casting Director A. Renee, I am back on top of my game. I don't mind being dark. It's what I am. God and my parents genes made me look this way, life experience made me tough and a force of nature! How insulting to them to highlight my hair and try to play Jennifer Aniston parts. This casting director said, "In Hollywood, the last one (of their type) standing wins." Well, as I look around, I see there is no one of my type. This happened when they were casting 13 Nights of Fright. They couldn't find a Gothic girl that didn't look "rode hard and put away wet" in real life. Josh Ackerman had just auditioned me for a paranormal show. They called him and I was cast the next day. The director told me they had basically given up because they needed a sexy dark Vampira type, but wanted her to have a sweet face. And there I was. I only regret I didn't stick to my instincts and do what I KNEW was best for me when they washed the goth off me a few years ago. I should have stayed dark! But, timing and training is everything. I have used these last few years to perfect my craft. I am a real actress who is now fearless and doesn't get nervous around a huge crew.

So embrace yourself and never look back! Remember, someone out there is looking for someone EXACTLY like you.

Once in a great while I meet a person who wants to learn to sing. Some kids have amazing natural ability with singing the notes and other kids have a natural ability to perform and entertain people.
When asked if I do private lessons I usually ask the person to sing for me and see what level s/he is at. If I find that I can help them with either singing, dancing, performing arts, acting, etc., I am willing to take them on as a project and give them a lessons.
If you are out there wondering about things you need some help with, you can email me and I will find time to work with you once a week. We will figure out a budget that will suit you. I am not a singing teacher. I have been taught very well as a dramatic colouratura soprano (and a gothy, glam blues singer with a sailor mouth). Oopps. Oh well.. You only live once and i do love to make people laugh. Even if it means i look stupid! Take healthy chances people!
I do enjoy helping young people to succeed in what they want. So if you're 1 of those little souls who needs an extra push, I will make time in my schedule for you. If you're reading this it's because you probably already know me or you have asked me about this. Lessons arent advertised as part of what i do. I do them because i love you all. (Stephanie, Yasmeen, Natalie, Karen, Big B, Lil Brandon....my first fgc in La...Loudes, Claudia, Beth, Kadie and Carly, Tiffy, Courtney, Jackie..)There are a lot of exceptional kids out there who can be Whitney Houston and Katy Perry. Wow was I sweating up a storm. Hence the red face. When I sing I belt it out with all that I am. No half ass nonsense. I'm uploading the HD videos on vimeo, so look for those from my May 30th 2012 performance. I loved hanging out with all of you. These bartenders were great. I had to tell them I was safe and married so they would worry too much about my ravenous behavior.

Papa come quick..

Very few Papa's are actually THERE to come quick LOL, but for this House of Blues show on the 30th at 11pm, I've chosen some old country style blues tunes and a few sexy rocking ones to keep your asses there.
These songs are very close to my heart. I've been singing them for years. Some remind me of myself, some remind me of what I need to be doing.

Since my song list is rough blues, I've decided to design a denim designer dress so I can wear my croco boots Nelson gave me. God I miss him. I even have a cowboy hat I can wear. Not to worry, there will always be cleavage for days and legs too. In this town, I can't sing in my jeans and have people listen, which actually works out well because I'm not a jeans gal, unless I am super thin. Right now third world countries are still using my bra cups for yamakahs. I kid I kid! So, denim yes, jeans, no!

It takes weeks of practicing and prep to do a good show. These are songs I've been longing to do since 1997 so it should be a really good show. One song that kills me every time is, Louise by Bonnie Raitt. I'm including the chords and lyrics for you because I'm going to figure out a way to do a live broadcast chat before the 30th. (Do you hear my web master?) That way you can talk to me and ask me questions and visit in case you don't live close enough to see the show.

I don't talk much about my childhood because it was hard. But what I can say is, the sadness made me a better Mom and taught me to stand up for myself. Believe it or not, I'm considered racey as hell where I come from. I get all kinds of crap for dressing the way I do on stage. If they could only see Hollywood blvd. on a friday night. They'd see how tame I really am. Yes, I've been asked to do playboy twice officially, I just can't do it. It's not wrong it's just wrong for me.I try and sass it up for my shows, but I believe true sexuality is to be kept for your one and only. These songs I'm singing talk about people's perception of me compared to what's true, how I feel inside, and how sometimes a man just needs a good ass kicken if
he can't treat a lady right. (Dream job for me! ) If those country mid-western people think a pair of DD's in a corset make you a bad girl. No no no! That would mean Dolly Parton was naughty, and nobody is sweeter than that gorgeous woman! She's America's Sweetheart! So, read these words and think of me. I'll keep you posted on the webcam cast.

Busy crazy happy life

The Libertine was closed due to a NOISE VIOLATION. Ahem. I plead the fifth. But, I do have a show at the HOB on the 30th, and a show at The Forbidden Lounge on the 3rd Sunday of every month. More details later on that.

I'm filtering out my hard drive and finding some really cute photos. I have great memories of this town and my life here. It will always be home. I came here for the first time at 15. Here's my first modeling shot.

Then, after many moons, I became Miles Teves' muse and took his last name. He taught me allll about Hollywood and I will forever be grateful. We were a great team.

Here's David Betances and I dancing a few years ago. He is the only dude I know that can TEACH any woman to dance. He can out-dance me, that's for sure.

Here I am hosting a leather fashion show for Alter Ego. I designed some outfits too. The Xena costume Karolyn did for me is amazing. We all miss her designs DAMN IT!

Here is a pic of my old trainer Deon, in 2009, right before I got sick. I was a fighting machine. Still am, just catching up to my old healthy self again.

This is from a party in 2010. This dress is vintage beaded lace. I love it. The bra and undies just blend right in. I was feeling ballsy. (I rarely don't as you know)

This is a classic! My LA family brother gave me these bad ass croco boots. I'm wearing
my favorite "You are entering a world of pain", Walter from The Big Lebowski, t-shirt and my LAPD hat from my Bollywood movie with Ashish Wahi. It was a good. day. Different look, but that's what you'd see from the starbus tour if you saw me and I was a star. You'd never know it was a feathered and leathered Queen of the Damned. lol

I started singing in LA again in April of 2010. Hollywood Park was the first place I sang. I did a lot back east, as you all know. Now I'm here for good, I might as well do what I love in addition to what I'm really good at. hhaa

So, I'll see you all at THE HOUSE OF BLUES on May 30th @ 11pm. Yes, I will be crazy and sexy and brash. Singing The Magic Flute doesn't seem to get the crowd riled up like a naughty blues song. My opera days are on hold right now, as I'm feeling musically rebellious and pushing the envelope for the masses.

Sway me now!

With every performance, you hope to learn something, to get better at your craft. This last performance @ The Libertine was funtastic. With my classical vocal training, I have had to learn that it's ok to have fun on the job. Singing Opera or in a Church or Concert Hall is very different than singing in a club or a bar. I've had a blast being able to let my hair down a little and try to be funny. TRY is the word here. I've always loved Margaret Cho, Sandra Bernhart, Rosie O'Donnell and Rosanne Barr. I love them because they are controversial and they speak their mind. It is a gift to speak your mind AND be funny at the same time. I'm learning that gift. I have moments of greatness on stage, and I try like hell the rest of the time. I always speak my mind, but it isn't always funny. Many people can't handle it.

My stage persona is a little rougher and naughtier than who I am in real life. I am explaining this because my recent performances have quite a few people in a huff in the midwest. I'm the same Malena that's writes motivational material, helps with charities and loooooves kids. I guess my black hair and curves give an impression that Im a wild crazy chic in real life. Who knows! haaaa I have to laugh, but also take their concerns just seriously enough to look at what I'm doing and see if it's true to ME. I've been trying to please everyone for decades. I have learned recently you can't. All you can do is be you. Be the best YOU you can be. If your Mother wasn't good to you, be the mother you wish you had. If your father wasn't there for you, choose a good man for yourself and your child. So, I'm glad my friend told me no one listens to what I say or reads my writing anyway. That way I can rallllly write what I want to write. Right now in my career it doesn't matter. They just want boob photos. :( wt? That's so funny to me because I am such a NERD and I don't think of myself as sexy. I'm just a web nerd with a damn good wardrobe and some fierce makeup skills. Regardless, Performing is for one purpose, TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY. As long as my crowds are having fun, my Internet fan base is still talking and commenting, I am happy. I love to make people happy.

...and to all the angry letter writers out there. Whatever it is that I am that offends you so, I'm sorry. I honestly don't mean to. I'm just trying to keep LA emotionally and spiritually happy and in love! It IS strange that I do that in leather boots, but hey Triumph The Insult Dog is really a dude with a badly made puppet and a foul mouth, but it works. He pulls you out of your shell and makes you laugh, whether you like it or not. Happiness comes in all forms mi amore! Love thyself and spread your happiness and silliness everywhere you go!!

Hey everyone! I just posted two new videos on youtube.
"Tango" a tribute to Tom Waits from the first Lorraine a' Malena album I sang this last Sunday, and my new song, "Don't You Ever Wonder?"

I got some fabu-lous gold thigh high "band boots" I'll be wearing. I'll have to paint one of my corsets to match. I do feel most comfy in corsets and jeans or vintage girdles, thanks to my divarific friend Roberto.

The Libertine is a low key club on 8210 Sunset Blvd. Across the street from Chateau Marmont and next to the Den. There is cheap parking ($10) in a lot inbetween the Body Shop and the Den.
The cover is like $10-15 bucks, so its reasonable.

*On the health front I am sooo excited to tell you the new treatments are working. The swelling/weight gain is going away and my hair has stopped falling out in clumps! Its growing back! This is the best news ever. If you don't have your health, your career is non existent. I'm finally looking like my normal self on camera too! Only 2 more sizes and I can wear my cool clothes again. I'm excited because its been so hard being deathly ill, but it did show me self esteem comes from within. So praise Jesus, Mohammad, Bhudda and Allah. After all prayers are heard regardless of creed. NEVER GIVE UP!

Right now, it's raining really cool gigs. I just look up and say thank you God.

TODAY: www.AneekaYasmeen.com and I did a hair commercial for BET/VH1 that was so fun. The girls were so so sweet and truly gorgeous. I was the token white italian. Their hair and nails and clothes were so hip. Then there was me, in my business suit and corset shoes. (I had two gigs today so I had to dress for both)
So, I'll keep you posted when it airs, etc.

TOMORROW: Here is the address where I am singing. Jeffrey George Moline invited me. It's from 4-6pm, an intimate groups of musicians and industry professionals. I'd be happy to have you as my guests.

A few months ago someone remarked on how I talk about all the things I am doing and then do nothing. I really had to laugh. I don't feel a need to explain or brag about what I've done. In my mind, I haven't accomplished much of anything so talking about the little things I do isn't important. If I have to sell tickets, yes, I have to talk about it. ;) I do enjoy helping people, which constantly gets me in trouble in Hollywood. A few bottom feeders have said, "You'll never work in this town again" after saying no to their crazy ideas and I'm still here and working. The way I see it is, FAME is a side effect of doing something well and having an image the public accepts. I write, sing, act, sew, etc.,because it makes me happy and I enjoy a challenge. Yes, a pay check now and then is nice but it isn't what drives me. Fame doesn't drive me either. It did when I was 15 and knew nothing about the hollywood world I had climbed into. Now, I only do something if it makes me happy or benefits my family.

Now, my family is always #1. I've had quite a few dry years on the imdb because I chose to raise my child the right way. No full time nannies and all that bs. I had her because I wanted to love and support an amazing human being, not let my nanny do it and adopt the name MOMMA. I AM Momma, everybody's Momma for that matter, and I love it. I don't talk about my family much because of the predators out there. And with MY background, it would be a fight. I recently told one of my fairy god children's boyfriends, "look buddy, if anything happens to her and I have to come down there, I honestly don't know who will get out of prison first, you or me" and I meant it. I am a protector, not of just children but of young budding artists and models alike. True, I am often hated for being "big momma lion" but who would you rather have on your side in Hollywood...a shmoozer agent who only loves you when you're on top, or your Mom. I am an opinionated gun toten Mother of the entire LAUSD football team. Volunteering in the schools since 2002 has been such a blessing. Now, I have a LOT of kids, not just my own. I love them all as much as I would if they were mine.

It's funny, when you start getting older you stop worrying about how to please people and instead please yourself, your family and God. You also stop trying to fit a mold everyone pushed you into, like a tan size 4 with highlighted hair. You start to see that being you IS enough...and ***k em if they don't like it. I've been at this singing, acting, writing, modeling thing for a loooong time. I do what I do because it makes me happy. So if you never become famous, it doesn't mean you weren't good enough. I recently learned while singing at a local hotspot, that talent "ain't got shit to do with nothin" as one promoter said. It's money and sex. If you shell out both, you get fame. If you're like me, a strong woman willing to defend the innocent at any cost, they might not like you for very long. I've been called negative, which IS insulting, because I am happy and cuddley, I just won't let people take advantage of anyone on my watch. If that's negative...they are living in the wrong country. I remember memorizing the declaration of independence in 5th grade and reading th constitution. It was then my opinions started forming. Someone has to stand up when things are going wrong. Someone has to put a bully in his/her place. Someone has to remind the people their rights are slowly being taken away. I try to be that someone as much as I can. Call it what you like, I call it being a real WOMAN. And I will always strive to do the right thing. Yes, I royally ***k up every once in a decade or so, but I keep trying. I'll die trying...to express my creativity and to help others. And to me, that's not negative at all. I love you all very much. Stay strong and don't measure your self worth by your imdb credits. Ok? Tuesday 3-20-12 House of Blues Performance!

Yeah! Another chance to sing and see all of you. I'll be singing again on Tuesday March 20 @ my new home, The House of Blues at 10pm!

I'm excited. It's good to practice. The more you sing in front of people, the better you get. Singing is easy, entertaining is hard work. I'd like to thank all my friends and fans for coming by and watching me sing. It's trial and error. My image and my voice are solid. As you know, I am always working on being funny. Being funny is just as powerful if not moreso than being sexy. It will be nice to cultivate that talent. Being an artist "in LA" means having the Rhino-skin to not care if people don't like your music or your looks. When I sing or act, I get up and throw all my energy, time and effort into that moment. Sometimes, greatness occurs and sometimes you see me make mistakes. I was taught the trick is to get up, dust yourself off and do it again and again. Never, ever give up. Optimistic stubborn-ness is how I am. Yes, I want a good show. I put blood sweat and tears into every one of my shows. Failing isn't an option. So, I'll be singing and acting until I die. Lol
I always tell my family, friends and fans to be brutally honest. I am! I'd rather have someone say, "hey saw. Your show, The * song was fantastic, the ** song was terrible, don't sing that again." I do value people's opinion. It's part off being a perfectionist. There is no such thing as too much information, too many rehersals, etc. In any art, you have to live it, breathe it, be it 24/7. It feels good to do that with singing. It's my favorite talent. So, back to work for Tuesdays show.

P.S. For all my brilliant struggling artists and musicians;
It takes a team to make a star. I've had a team for nearly ten years now and look where I am. Not just me and my husband. ..acting coaches, singing rehearsals, elocution lessons, toastmasters,Dr.'s, accountants, editors, nutritionists, (weight watchers at the moment), a Public Relations guy, a promoter, a music producer, a webmaster, a director of security, it goes on...Things were a bit bumpy the last 2 years, but I still had a wee bit of help, just much less. And look at my career, it shows. That proves having a successful team helps YOU be a successful entertainer.. No ONE gets to be a star by doing everything alone.
FAME is a side effect of doing something very well. A friend told me the story of
"The Twist" today. Being fairly young I nodded innocently knowing so little about it, but recognizing it's tune. Turns out the guy who wrote it lived our his life in bars and small pubs. He didn't make it famous. I don't know why, but the reason I say this is, so many actors, musicians, artists value themselves on "what they have worked on" in the industry. This is very limiting way of thinking of yourself.

Being recognized by someone or some people is nice. But it doesn't mean what we think it means. Marilyn Monroe was beautiful. But there were other women, more famous at that time who were also more talented. They didn't get chosen to be an ICON. That doesn't mean they weren't as pretty. See what I mean?

Play because you love to, sing because you always do anyway...might as well sing where others can enjoy it. Does it make you more important if celebs or presidents are in the audience? No, people are people, rich or poor, black or white..

And my gf from years back said, "It is harder to play for a small club full of people than a stadium, because you can tell on their face if they like you. THAT is why I am thankful to sing at The House of Blues. I'm learning how to read the crowd and be funny. Practice makes Perfect!

Did you know Amy Irving sung "Why don't you do right?" for the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" Wow can she sing! Who knew? (Which is sad. I wish she did more or I was aware of the music she does do!) Last night was great fun. We had some amazing talent there and YESSSS got great video!
I have some good news as well.

Starting in April, I will be hosting Wednesday nights at The Libertine (across from The Marmont) on sunset. Each week we have a theme. The first week is ROCK, second ElectroJazz, third Urban Rap & R&B
And lastly....GOTH night! The last Wednesday is alll mine baby! It's called,
Malena presents Massacre'ade at The Libertine.

Malena hosts LA Blues Revue March 14, 2012 @ House of Blues

Looks like I'm hosting the LA Blues Revue! As always I'm pulling out all the stops. This time I'm making a Jessica Rabbit outfit. We have some great talent coming out. I'm performing at 7:30 for 35-45 minutes, then I'll welcome in the other talent.

My producer ORDERED me to write some original stuff. I have journals of poetry, but no songs. This new song cam to me in bits. I wrote the first few verses a long time ago. Then I recently put the chorus together with it. Now, Chris Glik and I are going to work out the Orchestration I hear in my head. By March 14, 2012 it will be recorded LIVE at The House of Blues! It's a tear jerker, so I'm going to try and get through it. It needs to be heard. I think everyone feels like this song at least once in their life. Sometimes you need to sing someone else's words to get through your own pain. We've all sung Adele's songs a million times as we cry over a lost love. I am attempting to do the same thing, not write a grammy winning song (I'm not that vain or confident, lol) but to evoke that kind of emotion, that empathy that says, "I've been there too and we will get through it together"

So wish me luck on my Jessica Rabbit dress and be sure to come by and say hello if you are in LA. The House of Blues is a fantastic place to sing. They never say, "NO Malena, that's too much, too dark, too sexy, too rough" etc.They say, "Yeah girl, you'd better bring it! Show us what you got baby. Don't hold back!" Thanks Ace and Chris.
