She has been with me since I was 18 yrs old. She moved with me all down the west coast to Malibu. She is amazingly equally sensitive and opinionated. She has taught me so much over the 16 years we have known each other. Horses are the most amazing all around best friends and therapists one could ever ask for. Mamacita has seen me experience a lot of life and has always been the source of strength, care, and clarity that I have needed along the way. May you all experience the love of a horse in your lifetime:)
Well this is it. You can learn to ride a horse with private Arena Lessons or a Lesson/ Trail Ride Combo. For information on lessons please fill out my Lesson Information Request Form

I think of riding as moving meditation for people who can't sit still. The art of riding is somewhat like being a yogi and a horse yoga instructor at the same time. Continuously striving towards better balance and usage of our own bodies and of our mount's body. When this harmony is achieved there (to me) is no greater feeling. The horse enjoys himself as well. Horses love to have the connection with a human if it is mutually respectful (provided the rider is doing their best to be at one with their horse). I believe as humans we have a very natural connection with horses. It seems to be a very old and mutually serving relationship (in its highest form of course). Horses make us see what we normally don't. Horses allow us to enjoy energy in our bodies that we might never feel otherwise. They make us clear and focused and strong. With horses we can feel a centered strength that is hard to come by in the industrial/ computer age. It creates a mind, body, spirit integration like no other. Strengthening the body while focusing and calming the mind.

"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves." John Muir, American Naturalist

I hope at some point it becomes a crime to use up a horse's entire life for selfish egotistical social climbing nonsense and then let them starve and suffer alone in their old age. This also goes for the same people who think it is ok to shoot your horse up with drugs to mask his pain from the oh so fun OVER JUMPING you do with no skill or balance or dressage training on your part whatsoever. High Class horse abuse. Do people realize that at the end of every barn isle at most of our "A" rated hunter/jumper shows there is a 2 gal Sharps container full of used needles from drugs used all day on the horses to mask pain..or increase their speed...or calm them down.....what the f kind of human animal does that???

MHI Herd is growing due to the fact that when I see this I'm forced emotionally to take the animal away from this kind of treatment and insanity...

If you live locally and would like to come out to Malibu Horses, Inc. and help out by loving on one of these special animals that are in need of care please fill out the Volunteer Profile and someone will contact you to set a time..Thank You...

To rehab a horse can cost thousands of dollars and regular upkeep and care is $500-800 a month. When the horses can work by doing some lessons or easy trail rides it can help this cost but most definitely does not ever fully pay for it all. This is assuming your horse understands some leg aids and whip commands on the longe line. Pleas email or comment if you would like more info on training your horse to listen to leg or whip cues.If you are working on the longe line and your horse has a hard time picking up one lead over the other. First off just know this is normal. We are all one sided. Horses and humans. So the goal overall is to become more balanced as humans and help our horses to become more balanced laterally as well as longitudinally. Changing this happens gradually of course. The only quick fix is the long way unfortunately. Take some time to teach your horse to move his hind end out away from whip GENTLY at his side(whip is an extension of your arm used to guide horse and keep you at a safe distance no beating allowed:). So first with whip end down on ground ask horse's front end to come to inside of circle with a "Pull and release motion" on the longe line. Once horse's front end is on a 10 metre circle GENTLY ask hind end to travel on outside track of circle. When horse is traveling like this at the trot then ask for canter using whip HORIZONTALLY behind horse's hind end. The key is to ask and then PRAISE quickly after horse gives you what you want. NO PRAISE..then horse has nothing to work for. First set up horse trotting consistently and when hind quarters are on outside track ask "CANTER" (upswing in voice tone) and then praise when on correct lead. If horse get wrong one just say trot(downtone)...NO REPRIMAND(breathe and have patience)...set him up better bringing in front end with pull release on longe line and then moving hindquarters out...ask again...takes a few times to get in the beginning..don't forget to breathe...no perfection needed:)

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MalibuHorses/~3/-vBrWQEOW6w/how-to-get-your-horse-to-canter-on.html" title="How to get your horse to canter on the correct lead. We do alot of things to horses that end up hurting them. Like putting them in unnatural living and feeding conditions. So that as an unstable physiological foundation mixed with the anxiety of the overprotective parent..can be very uncomfortable for the horse and in some cases deadly unfortunately....Horses produce alot more acid in their stomachs than they have use for if they are only being fed two times a day...they are grazers.. it's supposed to be a bit harder to attain than hay.. for instances...walking and pulling things out of the ground usually takes longer..so its more continuous food throughout the day. So when we keep them in stalls, etc. it leaves a higher level of acid build up in the stomach....different breeds having higher levels than other breed or particular horses in some cases. I digress. Just setting that up as a bit of a house of cards for health. Then add in; if a horse owner comes to the barn and is worried..like a hypochondriac parent...oh no this is going to happen...my horse coliced once..oh god he might again...Jesus H Christ just writing it I get the Willies...To those people that experience this: Do yourself and your horse a favor and chill out a bit...learn to breathe and override your initial thoughts....if you learn this skill you WILL ride better too...Start to control your own mind...Sometimes anxiety in humans and horses can be the need for something additionally in our FEED....look into it.

I am often an observer in Life and that is one of the things I have observed. People with high anxiety have horses with issues.
