Getting Settled

My New Normal

Today I'm super excited because I'll be attended the (wait for it) Piggly Wiggly Craftly Beerly Beer Bash. Whew, that name. I feel like I'm really getting settled in here. The people are great, the food is delicious (and I still have a TON of places to try), and Sadie loves all the changes in elevation to climb.

I have attended my orientation, which was an orientation (it took many coffee cups to get through). I have attended one class (apparently University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa starts a week earlier and I have one course there). The people in my class were great, really excited about the class and super friendly.

I'm working on staying on top of my reading and working on getting my Master's Thesis written up for publication so I can move onto other lab-related projects and papers.

Oh and the family room is all set up and looking good! :)

I put the entertainment center together myself! Super proud!

The ***new couch*** (super comfy) all set up!

The Move - Friday/Last day of work

2013-08-02T11:21:00.001-04:00

Today is the last day at my job of five years. I have mixed emotions of kinda-sad/really-excited. This job has been everything I've known for the past five years and I really love it. However, I'm leaving this job to go on to better things and to do more in the field.

This is going to be a huge change in many ways. First, I'm going to go from working full-time, to being a full-time student. Secondly, I'm moving to a different state (an 8.5 hour drive from my current location). Lastly, my husband is not moving with me. Not permanently, but until he is able to find a job in the Birmingham area. So it's just going to be me and my dog. A change for sure. It hasn't been just the two of us for nearly five years.

On the positive side, we'll be close to three very nice parks, only a mile away from campus, and we will have SEASONS! This is huge. As someone who has lived in Florida most of her life, I am thrilled, no, ecstatic about seasons.

Saturday is the loading of the truck. Sunday is the drive. Monday is the move in.

I'll keep you posted.

What's happening on my side of the internet?

First of all: Who decided to call it a jetski? Shouldn't it be called a boatorcycle?

Check out this amazing BBC Nature video of a "brinicle".

Serious Stuff

NYdailynews.com reported that three more suspects were arrested in relation to the Boston bombing, for "tampering with evidence and lying to investigators". Pretty serious stuff. The friends have reportedly been arrested Tuesday in connection to the bombing.
