I don’t know what the bedtime routine’s like in your house, but in ours it can get a little crazy. My boys are different enough in age that they aren’t always interested in reading the same bedtime storybook. So we often read two and we try to read a little bit in both Spanish and English, if time allows, which it often doesn’t.

Now we recently downloaded the Disney Storytime App for iPad (full disclosure: I am a Babble Disney Voices Contributor, but this is not a sponsored post) and we’re giving it a test drive. One of the features I really like about the stories we’ve read so far is they seem to be the perfect length for our bedtime routine. Of the 3 we’ve read so far, one took about five minutes, one took about six minutes, and the third about seven minutes.

For us, the story length gives us the flexibility to read one, two, three or even four stories depending on the particular day.

The app includes the largest collection of digital Disney stories available including stories about everyone from Aladdin to Wall-E and a whole lot in between.

Each comes with original background music appropriate to the characters and theme. The Monsters, Inc., inspired story, “Always Time for a Laugh,” for instance, features a jazzy score with saxophone, flute, violin, and snare drum.

Each includes the wonderful Disney artwork you would expect.

And your child can create her own avatar for the app including adding a photo, or not, of herself for her avatar’s face.

Kids manage their own bookshelves in the app, so after parents purchase story credits, kids can choose which storybooks they want. Also, a recording feature allows kids or their parents to record themselves reading the story. Kids can follow along while listening to their own voices and can try out their dramatic voices while reading.

You can get the Disney Storytime app in the Apple app store for 99 cents which comes with three stories to get you started. They currently have up to 17 more stories available for purchase (you can buy all 17 of the remaining stories together at once for $8.99).  If you have an iPad, I recommend buying the app through your iPad for bedtime reading.

No sé como será la rutina que sigas con tus hijos antes de ir a dormir, pero en nuestra casa regularmente es muy atareada.  Mis hijos se llevan casi cuatro años por lo que sus intereses son distintos y no siempre están interesados en leer el mismo cuento.  Así que regularmente leemos dos y tratamos de hacerlo, cuando el tiempo lo permite, lo cual puede ser un reto, en inglés y español.

Recientemente bajamos a nuestra iPad el Disney Storytime App (Disclaimer: Soy una contribuidora de Babble Disney Voices, pero este artículo no es patrocinado) y lo estamos usando. Una de las cosas que más nos han gustado hasta ahora es que las historias tienen el tiempo perfecto para nuestra rutina antes de dormir.  De las tres que hemos leído hasta a fecha, una nos tomó cinco minutos, la otra seis minutos y la tercera como siete minutos.

Para nosotros, esto nos da la flexibilidad de escoger si leermos uno, dos o tres historias dependiendo como andemos de tiempo esa noche.

El app incluye una larga colección de cuentos de Disney digitales, desde Aladdin, hasta Wall-E y muchas más a escoger.

Cada una de las historias viene con música original y de acuerdo a los personajes y el tema del cuento.  En el inspirador cuento de Monsters, Inc “Always Time for a Laugh,” (Siempre hay tiempo para reir), por ejemplo, la música es jazz con saxofones, violines, flautas y tambores.

Cada historia además tiene hermosas imágenes.

The spectacular grand finale of Nuestra Belleza Latina took place tonight on Univisión. There were five very beautiful and talented finalists, I bet it was very hard to choose the winner. Families got a chance to say a word about their contestant and thousands participated on social media channels expressing their support.

¡The new queen is Marisela Demontecristo from El Salvador!

La espectaular final de Nuestra Belleza Latina se llevó al cabo esta noche por Univisión.  5 fueron las talentosas y bellísimas finalistas, apuesto a que fué muy difícil escoger a la ganadora.  Todas sus familias tuvieron la oportunidad de contar sus historias familiares y brindar su apoyo a su candidata y miles de televidentes tuvieron la oportunidad de expresar tu apoyo también, votando y compartiendo en línea.

¡La ganadora fue la salvadoreña Marisela Demontecristo!

Latinos in Social Media (LATISM) como siempre, estuvo ahí apoyando a las Latinas y tuvimos una divertida charla mientras la final estaba en vivo.  Aquí te presento un poco de lo que pasó esta noche.

¿Viste la gran final?

My family is still famous in our hometown for making the best gelatin desserts and rompope (a delicious beverage, similar to eggnog, that we pour on top). They did it as a business for more than a 100 years. The business ended when my grandparents retired, but my family still makes it for parties and family gatherings. When our friend, Martin, was trying to introduce my husband to some townsfolk, he introduced him as married to Silvia de la gelatina!

Here’s one of my mom’s favorite recipes. I assure you, you won’t be able to have just one slice!

Peach and Milk Gelatin

Peach Gelatin

• 1 liter water (just slightly less than 4 1/4 cups) and 1/4 cup, divided
• 10 grams (2 1/2 tsp) gelatin
• 1 box of peach jello
• 1 can of peaches in syrup, fruit and syrup divided

Milk Gelatin

• 1 1/2 cups of water plus 1 cup water, divided
• 1 big cinnamon stick
• 30 gr (7 1/2 tsp) gelatin
• 1 can evaporated milk
• 1 can condensed milk

For the peach gelatin

Bring to the boil 1 liter of water in a pot; meanwhile, dissolve the gelatin in 1/4 cup of cold water. Let it sit. When the liter of water is boiling, add the 1/4 cup with dissolved gelatin, the peach jello, and one cup of peach syrup to the boiling water. Turn of heat. Mix well.

Pour 1/4 inch of gelatin mixture into a mold, put it in the fridge until it sets. Meanwhile cut the peaches in slices. When the gelatin in fridge is hard, add one layer of peaches. Then add another 1/4 inch of warm gelatin mixture on top (very important, make sure the gelatin mixture is warm, not cold, when you pour it in, if you need to heat it a little, that’s fine). Put it in the fridge again, and let it set. When it is set, add another layer of peaches and the rest of the warm gelatin. Put it in the fridge for approx. one hour.

For the milk gelatin

Heat 1 1/2 cups of water with the cinnamon. Dissolve gelatin in 1 cup of cold water.  When the cinnamon water is boiling, lower the temperature and add the gelatin mixture and mix well. Add the cans of evaporated milk and condensed milk and stir. Let mixture cool down to a warm temperature, remove cinnamon stick, and pour mixture on top of peach gelatin. Put in fridge until well set.

To remove gelatin from mold, slide sharp utensil carefully down the insides of mold to loosen gelatin from the mold, then heat some water in large pan and sit the mold down into it (don’t let water splash into gelatin) for about 5 seconds. The gelatin should turn out nicely onto a plate.

Mi familia todavía tiene fama de hacer las mejores gelatinas y rompope del pueblo.  Por más de 100 años el negocio prosperó pero terminó cuando mis abuelos se retiraron.  Sin embargo mi familia todavía las hace para fiestas y reuniones familiares.  Cuando Martín, uno de nuestros amigos presenta a mi esposo con personas del pueblo, lo presenta como el esposo de Silvia de la familia de las gelatinas!

Hoy te voy a compartir una de nuestras favoritas, mi mamá la hace y siempre le queda deliciosa, te aseguro que no podrás comer sólo una rebanada.

Gelatina Combinada de Durazno

Sirve aprox 16 rebanadas

Para la gelatina de durazno

• 1 litro de agua y 1/4 taza de agua, separados
• 10 gr (2 1/2 cucharadita) grenetina
• 1 caja de gelatina instantánea de durazno
• 1 lata grande de duraznos en almibar, fruta y almibar separados

Para la gelatina de leche

• 1 1/2 taza de agua, mas 1 taza de agua, separados
• 1 raja grande de canela
• 30 gr (7 1/2 cucharadita) de grenetina
• 1 lata de leche evaporada
• 1 lata de leche condensada

Preparación de la gelatina de durazno

Poner el agua a hervir, y mientras tanto hidratar la grenetina con el 1/4 taza de agua fría.  Cuando el agua suelte el hervor agrega el sobre de gelatina instantánea, la grenetina, y la taza de almibar de los duraznos. Revuelve muy bien y retira del fuego.

Vacía un poco de gelatina en el molde (1 cm) y mete al refrigerador a que cuaje.  Mientras tanto rebana los duraznos. Cuando la gelatina cuaje, se colocan las rebanadas de durazno y se bañan con otra capa delgada de gelatina (asegúrate de que la gelatina esté tibia para que se integre bien con la gelatina cuajada, de ser necesario la puedes volver a calentar).  Se vuelve a refrigerar. Cuando cuaje, se coloca otra capa de duraznos y el resto de la gelatina. Mete al refrigerador y déjala cuajar, por aproximadamente una hora o hasta que esté firme.

Preparación de la gelatina de leche

Pon a hervir 1 1/2 tazas de agua con la canela.  Disuelve la grenetina en una taza de agua fría.  Una vez que el agua ha hervido, se baja la temperatura y se añade la grenetina, disuelve bien.  Agrega una lata de leche condensada y una lata de leche evaporada, integra bien.  Deja enfriar hasta que esté tibia, retira la raja de canela y se vacía en el molde encima de la gelatina de durazno. Mete al refrigerador hasta que esté firme.

Para remover la gelatina del molde, necesitarás un picahielo, agua caliente y un recipiente más grande que el molde.  Calienta el agua y vacía sobre el recipiente, separa las paredes de la gelatina con el picahielo, coloca la gelatina en el agua por 5-10 segundos.  Coloca un platón encima del molde y con un moviento rápido voltéala.  La gelatina deberá salir fácilmente.

Year after year Disney surprises me with new programs, attractions, and activities, but this year is extra special for me. Not only because I recently became a Babble Disney Voices contributor, but also because, about a month ago, I received a magical invitation.

And at Disneyland there’s a new show, “Mickey and the Magical Map,” and a new place to see the princesses, “Fantasy Faire.” In addition, they are having special activities like a character pajama party in Toontown and the fantastic Pixar Play Parade.

At Walt Disney World, Mike and Sully, beloved characters from Monsters Inc., will be the Grand Marshals of the “Celebrate a Dream Come True” parade, and they will have a Late-Night Dance Party in and around the courtyard of Cinderella’s Castle.

But you don’t need to wait for May 24th to experience a little Disney magic, the magic starts right now with the launch of the new Disney Story app, a lovely app which allows you to convert your photos from special moments into wonderful, shareable stories. I’ll be telling you much more about it very soon!

And this Saturday, May 11th, the Disney Royal Court will be welcoming Princess Merida into their fold, and I will be there for the coronation to bring you all the details. You can’t miss it!

No es sorpresa que año con año Disney nos sorprende con nuevos programas, atracciones y actividades, pero este año es muy especial para mi.  No sólo me convertí en colaboradora de Babble Disney Voices, que es un sitio de Disney, sino también porque hace un poco más de un mes recibí una invitación mágica.

Cada año por los últimos tres años, Walt Disney World, es el anfitrión de una conferencia muy especial: Social Media Moms Celebration.  Esta es una conferencia dirigida a mamás y papás en social media y es por invitación únicamente, y como habrás adivinado, este año esa invitación mágica llegó a mi email, una invitación que no pude rehusar.  Así que en estos momentos me encuentro en Orlando escribiendo estas líneas para todos ustedes.

Y gracias a mi participación en este evento, les traeré las últimas noticias de lo que Disney nos tiene reservado este verano.  El anuncio de un verano monstruoso con actividades en los todos los parques de Disney en los Estados Unidos, se hizo algunos días y todo comenzará con una fiesta de 24 horas consecutivas de las 6 a.m. del 24 de mayo hasta las 6 a.m. del 25 de mayo, 2013.
