2 Tbsp - Dark and Lovely: Au Naturale 10-in-1 Styles Gelee

Mix it up, serve it up and POW!!

Freshly washed, damp & still drying!
Wash & Go

I also did this step-by-step doing the LOC Method!

1st the Castor Oil
2nd the Conditioner
3rd the Gelee

HOURS LATER!!

You can use any brand, mix or measurements you like!!

**Make sure hair hair is freshly washed and soaking wet when applying this mix.**

Watson Road Home Remodel

Project Overview:

After renovating the basement apartment with friends, the couple who bought this rambler in Silver Spring decided they would hire us to fully renovate and re-configure the main floor. The existing finishes were cheap-seventies, and the layout was awkward and cramped.

Design and Layout:
It was clear that the layout needed to be changed completely. The wish list for the first floor was three bedrooms including a comfortable master suite, two full baths, one half bath, and an open living, dining, and kitchen area. We accomplished this by removing all of the interior walls, annexing a previously separated office space, and changing the layout of the hallway to maximize efficiency for the bedrooms. A Jack and Jill bath serves the two children’s bedrooms, and the master suite has its own large bathroom and walk in closet. In the living area, the wall separating the kitchen and dining room was removed, and the ceiling vaulted to bring the height in proportion to the size of the space. The kitchen is separated from the entry by a partial wall with a bench and coat closet.

Style and Finishes:

The finishes throughout are very contemporary. The floors were stained and tinted to be an ebony color, and the cabinetry is ebonized oak with glass accents and floating shelving. The children’s bath mixes glass and subway tile, while the master bath has a large double shower surrounded by frosted glass, and flanked by two floating vanities. Two contemporary gas fireplaces – in the master suite and in the living room – are featured elements.

Construction and Final Product:
Ramblers have a simple structure which is easy to understand. The ceiling is truss construction, which allows relative freedom in moving the walls. In addition, the house was built in 1961, and the systems were better than most of the older houses we work in. The biggest difficulty was re-locating the plumbing for the bathrooms, as we could only work from upstairs – the downstairs was occupied. It was a large and complicated job, as we moved every wall, and replaced all surfaces on the floor. Plus, the minimalistic design required one hundred percent accuracy. All the important details worked out beautifully, and the clients now have the spaces they need to live with their family.

FlatTwist & Curl | 1st & 2nd Attempt!!

I've been playing around with a new style...

It's called a 'FlatTwist & Curl' - Mae of Natural Chica, Nikki of CurlyNikki & Alex of The Good Hair Blog have raved about this style and their results were AMAZEBALLS! :)

Now, I'm not the great when it comes to styling my hair but I do know how to FlatTwist. I'm a 'Twist & Curl' kinda girl - so hearing about an easier and less time consuming way to achieve a TwistOut... I needed to know!

I was working from home so I did a henna treatment & took 'time' (this rarely happens #kids) to catch up on good reads...

I am in love with this style! It's so much easier to do than regular twists - I applied my product (Kinky Curly: KT & Castor Oil), did about 8 - 10 sections and let it air dry over night. Initially, I was scared as hell - I kept my fingers crossed in the hopes of achieving good results. Well... :)

I am more thank happy with the results! After a few days, I tried it again...

I'm still learning... once I feel that I've got it down pat - I'll do a tutorial! Until then, here's a video tutorial from Donedo! Thanks for looking out Shauntyce - she put this video on my FB wall shortly after I posted the pic of my 1st attempt! :)

Here's my review of Koils by Nature: Soothing Herbal Curl Defining Eucalyptus & Lavender Gel that I got from Curl Collection!

I love, love, love products from Koils by Nature... :-)
I'm a HUGE fan of the Moisturizing Shealoe Leave-In Conditioner and the Nourish Hair & Body Butters. Seriously, this is NO joke - I use these products on my kids too. I've used KBN products for over a year now! 'Holy Grail'.... Don't believe me?! Click HERE & HERE... POW! Ha, ha...

I was running low on the gel and was pleasantly surprised to see it in the Curl Collection box that I was going to review. Anyways, let's get straight to the review!

I did a fresh Wash & Go - I applied coconut oil & the gel... that's it! The scent is great, it left my curls defined, elongated and it gave me hold without any crunch! #WINNING :)

In Review: Pantene | Truly Natural!

Hola Familia,

I finally got to try the Pantene: Truly Natural line that I got from curlBOX! I tried out all 4 products... The Shampoo, CoWash, Deep Conditioner & Curling Custard.

I'm a big fan of the CoWash & Deep Conditioner... :-)

The Shampoo & Curling Custard didn't work well in my hair... :( The Shampoo cleansed my hair w/ out stripping it but I felt that it lacked in moisture and slip. The Curling Custard made my curls POP and gave me less shrinkage but my hair felt crunchy. :/

The CoWash worked very well in my hair! It cleansed w/ out stripping, I was able to finger detangle and it left my hair moisturized. The Deep Conditioner gave me MAJOR slip, it left my hair soft and I actually had less shrinkage... HA! :)

I reviewed this back in January and I am sooooo late on this one. My bad familia - there's been a lot going on... :(

These were sent to me as a courtesy of Robin D. Groover of Groove Therapy & Too Groovy Salon, Natural Hair Mag & Curly Connect.

Convolution Curl Defining Cleanser:

- Light scent

- Creamy

- Cleansed w/out stripping

- Left my hair squeaky clean

- I wish it had more slip though…

Convolution Curl Defining Conditioner:

-Major slip

- Light Scent

- It didn’t leave my hair as moisturized as I would have liked it…

Buffer Equalizer:

- Light scent

- Refreshing

- Moisturized my hair leaving it easy to detangle

- Sprayed well

- Light

- I really like this spray... :)

Piperita Nourishing Oil:

- Light smell

- Worked well on my hair

- Left my scalp feeling great

- Light in consistency

- Easy to apply

- It moisturized my hair but it felt like I needed more moisture…

Overall, I thought the products were ok! If there was a product in this line that I would purchase – it would be the spray! Now, this is how it worked for me. Everyone’s hair is different and results may vary from head to head. Hope that helps!

My Kinda-Sorta Fitness Regimen!

FITNESS - where do I start?!
I get asked this question a lot! What is my fitness regimen?! To be honest, I really don't have one. I know, I know... WHAT?! No, I don't. :/

I have exercised since the day I started walking and according to my Dad - that was at 7 months old! Ha, ha... :) I come from a family where fitness is embedded into our brains from day one. My Dad is a Professional Boxing Trainer. To read more about my Dad - click HERE!

I don't consider myself having a regimen because it comes naturally. NO, I'm not bragging... I'm just saying that what I do daily is the norm for me. It's like waking up in the morning and brushing your teeth! Seriously... I'm sure playing sports in school & being in the military for a few years helped too!! :)

I love running, biking, hiking and other things like Boxing, Zumba, Yoga & Pilates. I love to do it all... I have a gym membership but I also enjoy doing these things outdoors. I'm a mom of 4 kids so running behind them is a workout in itself! Ha, ha... I'm all about taking the kids out on a daily basis to parks, museums and anything that will keep us moving. :-)

I could start keeping track of what I do for fitness on a daily basis but I'm sure it would be BORING as hell! :p All I can say is "Motivation, Determination & Dedication..."

As far as food is concerned - I'm a Foodie! I do eat healthy but I don't keep track of calories and stuff like that. I believe that you can still enjoy the things you love as long as you don't overdo it and stay active.

HAIR... I'm a big fan of Wash & Go's! While working out during the week - I co-wash daily or every other day and do the LOC Method. On the weekend, I usually pamper my hair... Shampoo, Condition, Deep-Condition - the whole 9 yards!

Overall, I like to keep things simple but FUN!

In Review: Cantu | Shea Butter: Naturals!

Now, those who know me or follow me on my social media outlets – know that I am a BIG fan of Cantu beauty products! I was more than ready to get my hands & hair on the NEW Naturals line.

My ‘Go To” style is a Wash & Go. Since I was trying the Naturals line out – I also styled my hair in a TwistOut & BraidOut to obtain a better perspective for the quality of the products.

PRODUCTS:

Coconut Curling Cream

I love the Cantu Coconut Curling Cream! I styled my hair in a Wash & Go while using this product. It left my hair soft, my curls were defined without the crunch, it didn’t leave any residue on my hair nor did it weigh it down!

Coconut Milk Shine & Hold Mist

I used this to keep my hair moisturized throughout the course of the week. Although I liked it, I didn’t really need it because the other products did an AMAZING job of keeping my hair moisturized!!!!

Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream

WOW… this is a WINNER for me! I styled my hair in a TwistOut. As soon as I applied this to my hair – my curls started POPPIN! This left my hair SUPER moisturized, soft, it didn’t flake nor was it heavy! This is TheBomb.com!

Deep Conditioning Treatment Masque

This worked well! I did an overnight DC. It’s VERY thick but a little goes a long way! It did its job – it left my hair hydrated, smooth and full of life!

Creamy Hair Lotion

This worked very well!! I styled my hair in a BraidOut. It works just as GREAT as the Coconut Curling Cream and the Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream. This too, left my hair soft & was easy to detangle with in my hair. It didn’t flake nor did it weigh my hair down!

Moisturizing Twist & Lock Gel

I used this in a Wash & Go and when I styled my hair in a PonyPuff . It has great hold and defined my curls. I immediately noticed that it minimized frizz and it didn’t flake up!

Oil Sheen Spray

I didn’t use this much… What I noticed about this product is that it sprays evenly; it left my hair soft and it smell great!

I am SOLD on the NEW Naturals line from Cantu! The prices are affordable, they’re easily accessible, and they work great on my hair. They work wonders on my kid’s hair too! I look forward to purchasing these products like YESTERDAY!!!! LOL

"The Bully Effect" w/ Anderson Cooper of AC360

An extraordinary documentary called "Bully" captured a behavior adults hear about, but rarely see: the way some kids pressure and relentlessly harass their peers. Filmmaker Lee Hirsch was embedded in several schools for an entire year. What he filmed was so raw and eye-opening that the project catapulted a movement, sounding the alarm about the critical and dangerous issue of bullying.

Something profound has also happened as a result. In the time since "Bully" was released, a number of kids and parents profiled in the documentary, and the filmmaker himself, have been on life-changing journeys, and in some instances have experienced remarkable transformations.

AC360° has dedicated the past year to tracing the course of their journeys and personal missions. In partnership with Cartoon Network, we want to share their stories with you in a powerful documentary called "The Bully Effect."

When Alex Libby was a 12 year old in Sioux City, Iowa, the slurs, curses and threats would begin even before he boarded the school bus. It escalated to such a frightening degree that Hirsch put down his camera and got involved in his subject's life. He warned Alex's parents and school administrators that he feared for the student's safety.

Today Alex has become an anti-bullying rock star with appearances on national television and a visit to the White House. He also regularly delivers speeches to capacity crowds as an activist, and considers himself a spokesman for the bullied. We'll show you how he overcame the junior high torment to find happiness in high school.

Kelby Johnson came out as a lesbian in middle school and in the years since she and her family have been treated like pariahs in their small town in Oklahoma. Kelby admits to once being a cutter and speaks matter-of-factly about attempting suicide on three separate occasions. Even after she was hit purposely by a van of high school boys while walking back from lunch, she believes it's her destiny to remain in her small conservative town and change a few minds.

Now 19, Kelby says her participation in "Bully" empowered her to raise awareness about bullying targeted toward the most at risk population for suicide – LGBT youth. "I know that being gay, you can feel very alone," she says, "and I hope that when they watch the movie, that goes away and they realize there is someone standing with them who has gone through that." You'll get to hear about Kelby's struggles, the people who abandoned her family, and those who stood by her.

Kirk Smalley's story is both inspirational and heartbreaking. The film introduced him burying his 11-year-old son TY after he committed suicide because he was bullied. Kirk says, "I will fight bullying forever because my son will be 11 forever." You'll see his family turn unbearable pain into motivation to enlist the entire world in the fight against bullying.

Hirsch's mission has continued since his film's release - his goal is for 1 million students to see "Bully" through their schools. He has helped create an anti-bullying curriculum, in partnership with Facing History and Ourselves, to be coupled with the film so that students, teachers and administrators can watch together and get everyone involved to stop bullying. "The Bully Effect" tracks his progress trying to reach 1 million students while also traveling back to his own middle school where he opens up about his personal history with bullying.

Anderson Cooper and the producers at AC360° have been reporting for years on the long-lasting damage suffered by victims of bullying. We now want to focus on the change happening in light of "Bully" and campaigns to end intimidation and harassment. As a mom of 4 children... The movie "Bully" had me in tears thinking about my own experiences w/ being bullied and the possibility of my children being bullied at some point in their lives. The Internet - although great in one aspect, it allows bullies to take it to another level - beyond the school yards. Just a quick update...

I've been featured in the latest issue of Hype Hair Magazine!

It's the Mag with Nicki Minaj on the cover. I was featured alongside MANY other Naturals for the Healthy Hair Affair event in DC a while back!

How exciting is that?!

I spy... :)

I had so much fun at that event and met so many wonderful people. Again, thanks to everyone who came out and to those I met personally and chatted with!
