John Abraham meets Mammootty and Dileep in Cochin

A Mollywood-Bollywood entertainer is on the cards with Bollywood hunk John Abraham expressing his wish to work in a Malayalam movie. John, who spent time with actors Mammootty and Dileep at the latters' film location in Fort Kochi on Tuesday, revealed his plans to act in a Malayalam movie. "John was all praise for Malayalam movies. He promised to initiate a discussion on doing a Malayalam film. Once we zero in on a suitable story, we will surely work it out," actor Dileep said. Meanwhile, people of Fort Kochi had a unique opportunity of witnessing a star get together after John came to watch the filming of 'Kammath and Kammath' in which Mammootty and Dileep play the lead roles.

John Abraham is in the city for shooting his film 'Jaffna', whose location is completely set in Kerala. John went to the location of 'Kammath and Kammath' at Fort Kochi around 1 pm and spent 90 minutes with the actors. In his chat with Mammootty and Dileep, John reminisced the days he spent at Aluva during his childhood.
"He spoke about his Kerala connection. His grandfather belonged to Aluva. He was named after his grandpa. When John came to know that Dileep also hails from Aluva, he expressed his comradeship by hugging Dileep. John's grandpa had migrated to Shimoga from Aluva," said Anto Joseph, producer of the film.
Showering praise on Malayalam films and its technicians, he listed out the movies that he had seen. He added that his mother, who was not a Malayali, was a great fan of Malayalam movies.

Mammootty turns official promoter of Facebook

Malayalam cinema was still a coy virgin untouched by the intricacies of technology. A team with an experimental streak decides to shake her up from her reverie with an untold story. Thus was born New Delhi, a gripping thriller directed by Joshi and scripted by Dennis Joseph that bared all — the nasty goings-on in the corridors of power, the nexus between the media and the underworld, et al.
The movie, a smashing hit that came as a whiff of fresh air to the Malayali audience, was not only remade into Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, but also breathed a new life to the career of Mammootty who ruled the screen as the angry young man.
Now, after 25 years, the powerful character GK is awaiting a resurrection thanks to the efforts of veteran cinematographer Jayanan Vincent who will don the cap of a script writer and director for the first time, thus bringing alive the invincible GK once again on the silver screen.
And no prizes for guessing who will add flesh and blood to the character. “I can’t think of anyone other than Mammooty who can still essay the role convincingly,” says Jayanan, as he goes back to one of his favourite movies as a cinematographer.
“New Delhi was the first Malayalam movie that was shot in the capital and its high security area, and many a time a lot of candid filming had to be done owing to security issues that existed in Delhi then.”
For a movie that was shot in the cold misty December, even the lighting was a challenge, as it had quite a few night scenes,” remembers Jayanan who by now has 150 movies to his credit.
Son of yesteryear cinematographer Vincent fondly known as Vincent Mash, Jayanan started his career in Telugu but soon found a foothold in Malayalam with many IV Sasi films. His signature style in wielding the camera, coupled with his towering personality, saw Jayanan being even considered in the lead in Thrisna a 1981 I.V. Sasi movie. “It never happened as I was able to convince Sasi Ettan that I was camera shy and preferred to be behind it,” chuckles the man.
Jayanan Vincent, son of yesteryear cinematographer Vincent, dons the garb of a scriptwriter and director for the first time, for New Delhi’s sequel.

Dhanush in a cameo with Mammootty in Kammath & Kammath

Like father-in-law like son-in-law, we have to say. Dhanush is going the spiritual way, apparently taking a cue from Superstar Rajinikanth.

The National Award winning actor, who was working on his maiden Malayalam film, finished shooting for the movie in Kochi, and headed straight to Sabarimalai from there.

According to sources, Dhanush had a good darshan of Lord Ayyappa at the renowned shrine.

Meanwhile, the Malayalam film 'Kammath & Kammath' features Dhanush in a cameo. It has Mammootty and Dileep in lead roles.

On working in the film, Dhanush wrote on his microblogging page: "It was a great experience sharing screen space with Mammooty Sir and Dileep Sir. I'm just doing 2 scenes in the film. For love and respect."

It is said Mammootty and Dileep gave rousing reception to Dhanush on the sets of 'Kammath & Kammath'.

Mammootty's Puduvai Managaram is a Super Hit

Puduvai Managaram, the Tamil dubbed version of the Malayalam film Doubles - starring Mammootty, Nadia Moidu and Taapsee in the lead - has struck the right chord with the K-Town audience, making it a comeback of sorts of Mollywood superstar Mammootty on the Tamil screen.

Megastar Mammootty is in all support for the new trends in Mollywood, primarily the genre called as the new generation films. The actor finds them to symbolise the thinking lines of the current generation. Mammootty was speaking at the book release function of director KG George's auto biography titled 'Flashback: Enteyum Cinemayudeyum'.Mammooty also observed that those film makers who are found to take a different path, and who are often cited as in wrong directions are later given approval by the society, who once doesn't stand by them.

Mammootty's support for the new generation filmmaker gains much importance as famous names of Mollywood like Adoor Gopalakrishnan and BalachandraMenon has expressed their disinterest with their contents. Adoor recently stated that the huge crowds that are on theatres for a current hit are there just to listen to the expletives and obscene expressions used by the women in it, which are found to be poorer than what even men would dare to say. Balachandrmenon observed that much of their dialogues are like that of toilet humour or like offencive writings that we often see on lavatories.

A surprise visitor ignited sparks of joy and surprise among the tribal population of the Kundalakkudy Tribal Colony near Munnar the other day. The visitor was none other than the evergreen hero of Malayalam cinema, Mammootty.

The actor visited the tribal village to dedicate ‘Poorvikam’, a new welfare programme initiated by the Care and Share Foundation, which is headed by him.

The objectives of the programme include providing technical education to tribal youth, training in stitching to tribal women, a comprehensive health plan for the tribal people and an anti-drug campaign for the youth.

The visit of the super-star created a festive mood in the colony located 30 km away from Munnar.

Oorukoottam president Kanthaswamy and tribal head Gopalan Mooppan led the celebrations organised by the villagers to welcome the actor.

During the interaction, the tribal population shared their grievances with Mammootty. When a tribal youth Santhosh requested financial aid for a surgery to remove the tumour in his forehead, Mammootty promised him that the Foundation would take care of his medical treatment.

The tribals told the actor about the threats their community were facing. They complained that they were living on the edge. The actor assured them the support of the Care and Share Foundation to better their standards of living. Mammootty’s wife Sulfath also accompanied him during the visit.

Meanwhile, Care and Share managing director Fr Thomas Kurian Marettypuzha said that the ‘Poorvikam’ programme will be extended to tribal villages in other places in the state.

Tribal king Kozhimala Mannan Rajamannan was also present.

Mammootty is sweet 60 for Ragini Dwivedi

Ragini Dwivedi, the model-turned-actress who forayed into Sandalwood in the year 2009, with 'Veera Madhakari' opposite Sudeep, had long been eyeing for a slot in Mollywood. Her chance came when she got 'Kandhahar' in 2010 opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Ganesh Venkatraman.

she has got another chance to hit the top in Mollywood with another film opposite Mammootty, titled 'Face To Face'. Having been reluctant in accepting roles which need her to run around trees.

Ragini, who is working on the dates for the film, will be seen as the wife of Mammootty, who is more than double her age. "I don’t mind playing a wife to Mammootty. For me, he is sweet 60," chuckles Ragini, adding, "When you pick up a particular role, you know that you have to give an intense performance. Very few films are made on those lines. If my role is substantial, why do I have to worry about the age of the person with whom I am paired with?" asks Ragini.

Having made her mark in Tamil and Kannada films, she is now eagerly looking forward to the release of her next Kannada flick 'Shiva', which will see her opposite Hat-trick hero Shivarajkumar. "It is one amazing film, with great storyline and good songs," she concludes.

Mega audio release by Mega Stars

The last time the two superstars got together on stage was for the audio release of Mammootty’s Thappana.

This time, the occasion was the audio release of Mohanlal’sRun Babby Run. Dressed in a blue striped Tee and jeans, Mammootty presented a sharp contrast to Mohanlal, who was attired in a traditional shirt and mundu.

Speaking about Run Babby Run, Mohanlal said, “I am not going to repeat the cliché that my film is different; what I want is for the audience to watch the film in theatres and pass their verdict. I play the role of a TV channel cameraman and it is a thriller.”

Mohanlal has also crooned a melodious song Aatumanal payayil... which has been eliciting a good response from the listeners. The song visual shows Mohanlal frolicking with Amala Paul and is set in a sensuous mood.

Speaking about this number, Mohanlal said, “I am happy that I got an opportunity to sing this song and the response from the public has been very encouraging; so I am planning on crooning more songs!”

Mammootty, who took to the stage also complimented Mohanlal’s talent and said, “I have been hearing this song constantly on the airwaves and was wondering about the film name. It is only now that I realise that the song is from this film.

Though Run Babby Run is still to be released, I can confidently say that this song will be a super hit. It is one of Lal’s best songs.” On a lighter note he quipped, “Mohanlal can continue to sing!”

The others present on the occasion were producer Milan Jaleel, Siddique, B. Unnikrishnan, Johny Antony in addition to the director of the film Joshiy. Amala, busy with her Tamil film, could not make it to the audio release.

Dulquer Salmaan’s 'Usthad Hotel' has the audience raving

Newly released Malayalam film Usthad Hotel seems to have taken over the online world, what with the film trending at number five in India. The film, directed by Anwar Rasheed - of Kerala Cafe fame, features superstar Mammootty's son Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role.

Dulquer plays a guy who wants to be a chef in what was said to be an off-beat entertainer. That this happens to be Dulquer's second film release after his successful debut with Second Show, goes on to prove that the youngster either knows how to pick the right roles or has a very seasoned voice (probably his dad) guiding him.

The film, penned by Anjali Menon, has touched a chord among those who have already watched the film. "Simple story, with no fights," is the general response.

As for Dulquer, in addition to a couple of Malayalam singings, he already has a Tamil film and another one in Bollywood in the pipeline.

Mammootty plays a farmer in 'Praise the Lord'

The general trend among debutant filmmakers in Mollywood is to keep away from literary classics, simply because it poses a bigger challenge and requires one to walk the extra mile to do justice to the work. One has to go into the details, the background, the settings and what not to convey the plot perfectly well to the audience.

But it is not so with Shibu Gangadharan, who is all set to make his debut as an independent director this year. For him the challenge of working on a renowned work is something irresistible which has spurred him to explore Zacharia's novella - 'Praise the Lord' for his first outing. The movie will have Mammootty playing the lead role.

"While reading 'Praise the Lord', I realised the cinematic potentials of the plot. The village life depicted in it, the satirical elements, subtle humor and the innocence of the characters can contribute to a vibrant movie experience," says Shibu who started his career as an assistant director to Rajeev Nath in 'Janani' (1999), which was also based on Zacharia’s story.

Mammootty's 'Jawan of Vellimala' to complete soon

Megastar Mammootty's new project 'Jawan of Vellimala' is near completion. Directed by debutante Anoop Kannan, the megastar is very much impressed by the scripts of the movie that he is now producing the movie project under the banner of Playhouse- his home production company.

Also featuring Asif Ali for the first time with Mammootty, the movie will have the megastar in twin roles and tells a tale in the backdrop of a dam.

Dad's goodwill gave me a head start: Dulquar Salman

"Second Show", the debut film of Mammootty's son Dulquar Salman, has hit the theatres and the newcomer says his father's goodwill has given him a head start, but admits that he will have to work hard to carve a niche for himself.

"Without doubt, his (Mammootty) goodwill has given me a head start. I know very well now that I will have to work hard because that is the only thing that will keep going forward," Salman told IANS.

A graduate from the US, Salman has been busy managing his father's money matters before entering acting business. He is currently shooting for his second film, "Ustad Hotel".

"I was getting a few offers and I took the plunge after a lot of thinking. I felt if I should try my luck, so later I do not have any regrets. I am extremely happy that I decided to act as lots of offers are coming my way. I have decided to be in this profession," said Salman.

When asked whether his father has seen his debut film, he replied in the affirmative, adding: "Normally my father doesn't say much." This is true as the superstar has refused to comment on his son's film!

"My biggest advantage is that if I have doubts, I have my father to fall back on. And while working on my debut film, I sought his advice," said Salman who would love to work with his dad, but added: "Don't you think that I have to earn that and for that I have to put in real hard work."

The actor, who got married to A. Sufia last December, said about his wife: "Language is a barrier for her but half the problem is sorted out because she lives in my home and my parents like her a lot. We have now learned to adjust to the fact that we can't be spending a lot of time together because of my acting commitments."

Shaji Kailas' biggest directorial venture ever, 'The King & The Commissioner' would release on the 22nd of March, 2012.

Starring Mammootty and Suresh Gopi, 'The King & The Commissioner' carries forward the characters in two of Shaji Kailas' former films, 'The King' and 'The Commissioner' that starred Mammootty and Suresh Gopi respectively in the title roles.

Prithviraj to produce a Mammootty-starrer

This time around, Mollywood star Prithviraj, who turned producer last year with Urumi and Indian Rupee, has decided to bet on superstar Mammootty.

"I am producing a film called Arival Chuttika Nakshatram that stars Mammootty in the lead role. I will be part of the film too, but as the villain. It is a period film, depicting the years when the Communist movement first began in our country," Prithviraj informs. Mammootty’s ‘Pokkiri Raja’ to be dubbed in Tamil

Mollywood superstar Mammootty’s Pokkiri Raja, which was released in 2010 is being readied for release in Tamil. The dubbed version of the masala flick, packed with songs and fight sequences, will hit screens soon. The mega-star cast of Pokkiri Raja includes Mammootty, Prithviraj and Shriya Saran.

The Tamil version of the movie will be titled Raaja Pokkiri Raja. The south flick saw Mammootty and Prithviraj as brothers. The music of the film was composed by Jassie Gift.Pokkiri Raja earned Rs18 crores from theatre collections alone. Looks like the dubbed version will be a money-spinner too, especially given the fan following Mammootty and Prithviraj enjoy among Tamil film fans.

Newcomers with Mammootty for 'Balyakalasakhi'

Director Pramod Payyanur, famous for his television and theatre productions, has stated that he will be using a plenty of freshers in his debut film 'Balyakalasakhi' based on one of the most famous writings in Malayalam. The movie which will have Megastar Mammootty in the lead as late writer Vaikkom Muhammed Basheer's famous character, Majeed, will have at least 15 new names carefully selected from college students and theatre artistes in various other supporting characters. Gautami Nair to debut with Mammootty's son

If confidence is the buzzword today, Gautami Nair is definitely in tune with the times. Awaiting the release of her debut film opposite Mammootty's son Dulquar Salman, she is simply poise personified. The lead lady of the highly anticipated 'Second Show', she has no qualms revealing tinsel town was not part of her immediate plans. "I never nurtured any fancy for arc lights and not even in my wildest dreams imagined myself as an actor. After plus two I joined Pharm D course in Amrita but soon realised it was not my cuppa. So I started preparing for medical entrance in full swing and it was then 'Second Show' happened," she says.

When Gautami terms her silver screen entry an accident, she means it. "My cousin was an assistant director in the film and my stills were sent to the team without my knowledge. I was called for an audition out of the blue and in no time I was in," she says. She swears playback singing was the only film-related area she was interested in. "I thought I would balance medicine and singing," says Gautami who has already recorded for a music album.

She says 'Second Show' was a jolly good ride for her as majority of the cast and crew members were first-timers. "Since all of us were freshers, shooting was a freewheeling affair. There were many funny moments. We used to wander the Calicut streets looking for good food joints just like college-goers," she says.

Mammootty bags the Cultural Icon of Kerala at Ujala-Asianet film awards

Mammootty was honoured with the Cultural Icon of Kerala award in the 14th Asianet-Ujala film awards distribution. The award ceremony took place on Friday, January 6th at Dubai festival city.

Superstar Mammootty bagged the Cultural Icon of Kerala award. Mohanlal, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, Asin, Vidya Balan, Kavya Madhavan, Manoj K Jayan, Archana Kavi, Lakshmi Gopala Swami, Maneka Suresh Kumar and many other celebrities attended the grand function as well.

Roma, Divya Unni, Manisha Lamba, Vidya Unni and Rima Kallingal performed at the Asianet-Ujala film awards. Kalabhhavan Mani, Benny Dayal and Rimi Tomi cheered the audience with their songs. The girl who slapped Mammootty's Son Dulquar

Upcoming artiste Gauthami Nair can’t stop gushing about her experience with Mammootty’s son, Dulqar Salman in the youth-packed movie, Second Show.

Gauthami, who is now settled in Ambalapuzha considers herself lucky to be Dulquar’s co-star in her debut movie.

She says, “Getting to act with Dulquar, is indeed a big opportunity for me! I was tense because I had to pair up with Mammootty’s son in the movie, but then I removed that thought completely from my mind and started considering him as my co-star in Dulquar, which was easy for me then.”

In Second Show, she plays the role of a village girl called ‘Geethu’ and certain things that Geethu does changes the life of Lalu (Dulquar).

The petite beauty has lots to express about her experience with her co-stars. “I enjoyed each day and didn’t realise when the shooting got over finally.” She recollects a scene where she had to slap Dulquar several times.

It’s a must-watch movie says the young star, because of the energy-filled young cast and a different storyline altogether. “I am sure that the two-hour movie will entertain the public and will be worth watching,” adds the actor.

Gauthami completed her schooling in Kuwait came down to Kerala to pursue medicine. Following her father’s footstep, Gauthami too wanted to become a doctor but the world of glitz and glamour beckoned her.

“My cousin sent my photos to the associate director of Second Show and I was selected after an audition,” she added. The young girl who does not want to give up her studies for movies is presently doing a correspondence course in literature.

Although settled in Kuwait, Gauthami didn’t face any language problem and is comfortable speaking Malayalam. However, debut director Srinath Rajendran considered her voice a tad unfit for the role of a village girl so, this coupled with her NRI accent meant that the movie had to be dubbed.

About her future plans and her stint in films, Gauthami says wants to wait for the release of Second Show on January 20 before she answers the question. “I want people to see me on the big screen.

I want to hear their comments and then I will decide whether I should take up any other projects or not,” says the actor.

Dulquar Salman's interest in Cinema

More than wanting to be an actor, Dulquar Salman wanted to be a filmmaker. He was more interested in the technicalities involved in filmmaking. Salman even captured a shortfilm with his father's camera while he was in the eighth standard. He has made the domestic helps act in the film.

Though director Shyamaprasad offered him a role for the first time, Dulquar was reluctant and thought that he must first study the various aspects of cinema in detail and hence did a short term course in film.

Mammootty is obviously very proud of his son. While talking about his humble launch, Mammootty said, “I never got a premiere launch in cinema. During those struggling days, I was known as Mammootty, the son of Paanaparambil Ismail. It was only later that my father came to be known through me. Now, Dulquar is known as Mammootty's son. If I am destined to be known as his father, let it be so.”

Pokkiriraja for a Hindi remake

As director Vysakh is all set to kick off his new movie 'Mallu Singh' by this weekend, his debut film 'Pokkiriraja' is getting ready to go places. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar who has got an immense liking to the film is ready to buy the remake rights of the movie which will be made in the title 'Nam Bhai Boss' in Hindi. Akshay, naturally will be appearing in the role that Mammootty has done immortal in this big hit of 2009. Theatre model and Pakistani actor Imran Abbas will appear in the role of Soorya that Prithviraj has done in the original. The director of the multicrore multistarrer 'Blue' Antony Dsouza, will call the shots for this remake which will be on theatres by the end of this 2012.

Another interesting development is that Akshay has also bought the redo rights of 'Appadi Podu'... Vijay's hit song from the movie; Gilli- for including in this film. The year end is sure to witness Akshay dancing to the steps of 'Appadi podu..' and speaking the dialogues of Mammootty in this remake of Pokkiriraja.
