James Garner has earned plaudits for his recent performances at Nottingham Forest.

The Manchester United loanee has been back to his best over the past month, with many claiming that the performance against Hull City was his best for the club so far.

Garner spent the second half of last season at City Ground and rejoined this August.

He took a while to get back in form but is now performing consistently.

Garner scored and assisted one in Forest’s 2-1 victory over Hull, dominating the midfield for 90 minutes.

The 20 year old showcased his ability to dictate the tempo of the game from deep. He covered every blade of grass and used his vision to spray line-breaking passes.

Garner is a versatile midfielder. He can operate as a traditional number 6 or drift further forward as a number 8.

Playing at the heart of midfield in one of the toughest leagues globally, the Englishman has excelled at his game and gained valuable experience.

If he continues to deliver consistent performances until the end of the season, he can make a solid case to break into United’s senior squad next season.

The Red Devils are looking to bolster their midfield options and have been linked to various midfielders over the past year.

Garner could be a viable squad option to start with and could establish himself as part of the starting lineup in a few years.

Manchester United are said to be a better fit for Erling Haaland than cross-town rivals Manchester City.

This is according to BILD’s Christian Falk, who believes that the Borussia Dortmund striker would be more suitable for the Red Devils.

Haaland has a reported release clause between €75 million and €100 million next summer and is wanted by some of the major European clubs.

The Norwegian has established himself as one of the deadliest strikers across Europe and has shown his ability at the highest level.

Manchester Evening News reports that Ralf Rangnick is a keen admirer and is pushing for the transfer.

He had a good relationship with Alf-Inge Haaland from when he was Red Bull sporting director and oversaw Haaland’s move to Red Bull Salzburg from Molde in 2018.

Falk claims that an Old Trafford move would be more likely for the Dortmund star:

“You have to say that Manchester United are following developments themselves, including the topic of Haaland. ”

“You have to be honest, though, with Pep Guardiola and Haaland, I don’t think he really wants this striker if he can get another one because the system of play is designed differently.”

“At United, Haaland fits like a glove, as our experts have said. Everything fits United perfectly.”

With Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial reportedly looking for a move elsewhere, United could break the bank for Haaland.

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick held his press conference today afternoon (Thursday) ahead of the clash with Newcastle United on Monday.

Speaking on the fitness or health of his squad, the German manager confirmed only Paul Pogba was the major absentee from the group as he continues his recovery from injury.

Rangnick also called upon the relevant authorities to allow the return of being allowed to make five substitutions in light of the rise in postponed games.

In light of the fixture congestion that typically happens this time of year, Rangnick also discussed the importance of the League Cup and whether it might be something worth dropping to ease the schedule, particularly with the postponement of games.

Rangnick did deliver some positive news in regards to the fitness of his players and it seems he’s happy despite having to have Carrington shut down.

Many fans were concerned the former RB Leipzig man will struggle to get his ideas across or get the fitness levels of the players up enough to implement his high-intensity tactics.

However, it appears as though Rangnick is pleased and won’t give his squad any excuse to perform poorly in what is a crucial match against Newcastle United.

Manchester United fans have been told exactly what happened with Anthony Martial and Ralf Rangnick, with multiple sources confirming the desire to depart for Sevilla.

According to the Daily Mail, Martial reportedly spoke to Rangnick on Wednesday in his efforts to leave the club in January for Sevilla.

It’s understood the talented Frenchman is frustrated with the lack of starts he’s had this season, though he may not get any more as he has ‘irritated’ his manager.

Rangnick was annoyed because Martial’s agent publicly announced his client’s desire to leave without having spoken to the manager first.

It’s said the talks on Wednesday was an effort to resolve his future, with Sevilla only being keen on a loan deal this January.

The Telegraph confirm what the Daily Mail reports but add a few points such as Rangnick knowing he has to make some outgoings happen before he can think of any incomings.

They also add that Sevilla tried to sign Martial in the past and so want to secure a loan move this time around but would struggle to meet the finances needed to make a deal happen.

According to The Athletic, the timing of Martial’s agent’s public announcement surprised those at Old Trafford as he had just made himself unavailable to play due to injury.

There is also confusion over what the purpose of the announcement was given how he was made available for transfer since the summer, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s orders.

The legendary Norwegian thought it’d be better to recoup as much money as possible in order to fund a purchase elsewhere.

It’s also understood that United staff were not happy with the lack of communication from Martial during his multiple injuries, going back to the last season even.

The Athletic report that the former AS Monaco man earns around £240k per week which complicates things for any club that is keen on his signature, even in a loan capacity.

Barcelona aren’t keen anymore and Lyon and Sevilla may be unable to make a deal happen while Juventus are no longer looking for the type of player Martial is.

The Athletic go on to say that United may accept a loan if a fee is involved but that fans should not be surprised to see the player stay beyond January.

The former Juventus man’s future is very much up in the air and he is one of many players who needs to decide what he wishes to do next.

According to ESPN, United are not expecting Pogba to leave this January transfer window, though they will consider offers for him if he confirms intentions to not sign a new deal.

It’s understood the talented Frenchman so far hasn’t done so and is even looking forward to working with Ralf Rangnick.

PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus are said to be keen on Pogba but he has not ruled out extending his stay with the Red Devils.

Rangnick’s 4-2-2-2 formation could see the academy product feature in two different positions, as one of the defensive-midfielders or one of the winger/attacking-midfielders.

The German boss’ system means the defensive-midfielders aren’t necessarily expected to both sit back and instead they’re expected to share responsibilities.

It is essentially splitting up one main anchorman into two more flexible roles in those positions.

Even his wingers play rather narrowly and it’s why fans saw both Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho playing in that role.

The former is a number 10 by trade and the latter is typically a versatile winger and yet they essentially play the same positions.

Given the somewhat half-duty of the defensive-midfield role and the narrow wingers, Pogba could excel in either position once he gets used to Rangnick’s system.

Fans are certainly excited by his return to the first-team and perhaps a spell of good form will be enough to convince the 28-year-old to commit his future to United.

Edinson Cavani is a wanted man and now has two big offers on the table from two very different clubs.

The Manchester United striker is believed to want to leave Old Trafford, having been relegated to the bench following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 34-year-old reportedly already has an agreement in place with FC Barcelona, the move he is said to be most keen on.

The Blaugrana are going to be very busy in the January window trying to breathe new life into their calamitous season. They are also set to close a £47 million deal for Manchester City’s Ferran Torres.

But the bigger offer on the table for Cavani appears to have emerged from an unlikely source – Brazilian side Corinthians.

According to Barcelona outlet Sport.es, the Série A side ‘have not thrown in the towel and want to enter fully into the bidding to take over the services of Edinson Cavani this coming January, coinciding with the start of the season in South American football.

‘The forward’s brother and representative, Walter Guglielmone, already has an offer from the São Paulo club, which, in salary terms, is higher than what Barcelona would be willing to pay him on a year and a half of contract.

‘And this is the aspect on which Corinthians pin their hopes of signing the Uruguayan international.’

However, Sport maintains that Barcelona are in the box seat for Cavani’s signature due to his ambition to play in La Liga for the first time:

‘Cavani … in the coming days, will try to negotiate his termination of contract with Manchester United.

‘Corinthians’ talks with Cavani do not affect Barça’s negotiating strategy… The Blaugrana … are aware that the Uruguayan has offers from Brazil (Palmeiras are also suspected to be entering the scene) and Italy.

‘However, what is making it possible for the Uruguayan to head the list of number 9’s to reinforce the Blaugrana forward line is the player’s predisposition to arrive at the Camp Nou in this next winter market.’

It is a sign of the strange financial times in Spanish football that Barcelona cannot match the salary offers coming in from countries such as Brazil. Sport claims that if Cavani hopes that the higher offer from Corinthians will force Barça to improve their deal, he is mistaken:

‘Barça, with their salary bill limitations, will not enter bids or auctions that make any operation more expensive. The agreement with the player is closed and if, in the end, United do not let him leave, or the footballer backs off, other options will be activated.’

Another club joining the race for Cavani’s signature is Sevilla, according to Mundo Deportivo.

There is also the issue of whether United will expect some sort of transfer fee or compensation package if they do let the player go, something that remains unclear.

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes Edinson Cavani should sign for FC Barcelona to get more game time.

Cavani was one of United’s marquee signings in the summer of 2020 and scored some crucial goals for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side last season.

In 47 appearances, he has netted 18 times, 11 of them coming in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

The 34 year old has been unlucky with his injuries and has missed over 30 games for the Red Devils.

He recently suffered a tendon injury and is expected to be back in action soon.

New manager Ralf Rangnick has a plethora of options to choose from in attack.

The likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are all capable enough of playing in the striker role.

Moreover, the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer always meant a reduction in his playing time.

Throughout his managerial career, Rangnick has shown a preference to play young and dynamic forwards who can help in quick transitions.

This might push the Uruguayan further down the pecking order at the club.

Former striker Berbatov feels that Cavani should look elsewhere for game time.

He told Betfair: “Despite a good season last time out, Cavani hasn’t played enough. When someone like Ronaldo comes into the club, he takes all the spotlight, he plays every game, and in the world of football, this happens.

“It’s not a fair situation because Cavani did so well for the team last season, he earned a new deal, but Ronaldo has taken his place in the team. It’s not fair, but this happens in football.”

Cavani has been linked to a move to Barcelona in January, and Berbatov feels the move is right for his career.

“If there’s a chance for Cavani to leave the club, if there is an offer from Barcelona, then, of course, he will be thinking about taking it to get more football, and if he gets more game time in La Liga, then I will support him and say ‘go there and play, it sounds like a great deal, great money and you’re not 24 anymore.’

“I can see Cavani going there, not playing every single game, but he will be a solid addition and will provide goals because that’s what he does wherever he goes.

“Hopefully, Cavani will have the full details about Barca, how they train, how they prepare and what they expect from him, and then he will make a decision.

“Whatever it is, Barca is Barca, and when they come asking for you, of course, it’s difficult to say no. With Cavani not playing at United, it’s an easy decision.”

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has given an update regarding the club’s training amid the recent COVID outbreak in the Premier League.

United were one of the clubs affected after a few of the players tested positive following the match against Norwich City.

Subsequently, the games against Brentford and Brighton were postponed, and the training ground was closed last Monday.

In the latest episode of United Daily, Rashford spoke about the team’s preparation ahead of their game against Newcastle United.

“Everyone is looking forward, and everyone is very positive at the minute. We were all disappointed when the last game got cancelled but, at the end of the day, there’s nothing you can really do about it.

“We have to just focus on the next game that will be played, and hopefully, that game goes ahead.”

The German coach will be looking to implement his philosophy on the team and help United climb the league table.

The Red Devils have a favourable run of fixtures for the next three to four weeks, and this period will be crucial to gain maximum points.

Rashford further explained: “I think the way you start the season and the way you play, and the results you get around the Christmas period, are probably the two most important points [in the season].

“So, if we have a good Christmas period now, then we can keep that momentum going, and that will take you into the big games where the trophies are, come the end of the season.”

“I think I’ve got the qualities to play all of those positions.

“I just need to study each of them to make sure I tactically understand them, in particular without the ball and then when I have the ball I just have to play my own game and not feel any pressure.

“Up until now it’s been working really well.”

Towards the end of the interview, Hannibal was asked about his footballing idols when growing up and mentioned previous world-class midfielders who dominated the game.

“Obviously I’ve got role models, but they don’t play much football these days!” he added.

“Zinedine Zidane was one of the best players in the world and you had someone like Ronaldinho who was great on the wing. [Andres] Iniesta [plays] a bit deeper.

“So I try to learn from watching players like that but in my national team too we’ve got some really talented players, so I’m hoping to learn from them as well.”

United fans will be looking forward to seeing what the 18-year-old can contribute to the club once he features regularly for the first-team.

Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also attracting major interest in signing the striker as well.

United will surely need to secure Champions League qualification to ensure any chance of succeeding with their wish.
