William  Edawrds DEMING a présenté le modèle PDCA en 1950 au comité directeur  Keidanren (syndicat patronal des entreprises du Japon). C'est ainsi que  l'outil PDCA est   connu aussi (surtout au Japon) sous le nom de "Roue de Deming".

Le principe du PDCA a été mis au point à la base par Walter Shewhart  (statiticien et ami de Deming) mais il a été développé et popularisé par  William
