Pat Lyons and the Sins Album Launch

2012-11-09T05:59:00.001-08:00

I know, I know. It’s been about a year since I posted my last blog entry. A lot has happened since then. I got married for starters (thank you), but more importantly City won the league!

There was the other small matter of Pat Lyons and the Sins releasing their first single, Autumn Violins (Inc B-Side "When Heaven Comes Tumbling Down") and their impending Album Launch ("Friday Night Confessions at Castro Amsterdam) tonight at Three Minute Theatre in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

You can have a listen here and there WILL be album, single and Album Launch reviews here very soon.

In the words of The Hives though.....I hate to say I told you so!

These guys are for real.

Listen to and Buy the album and single here...

Pat Lyons and the Sins Lead the Way at Moho Live

2011-06-28T06:00:00.000-07:00

You've probably noticed of late that one of the bands Mcr Loves Music are championing are Pat Lyons and the Sins. And for good reason. Amidst a multiple genre evening at Moho on Friday they again proved that they have the sound, lyrics and look of all things potential. Albeit another short set of six tracks, you can tell that PLatS are quickly finding their footing in their live shows, and one fan we spoke to hopes they continues. Neil Bennett, a self proclaimed PLatS groupie mentions that "I hopes they make a real go of it" "some proper toe tappers that even got some of the Death Metal fans who were there to support another band interested"

Over recent years, indie rock has been full of anaemic, self loathing teens trying to understand what they're really all about; PLatS seem to have a knack of not only really knowing what they want out of a show, but finding what you like, regardless of musical taste, and throw it in the mix for all to enjoy. From rip roaring, almost anthemic classic indie rock to tidy little ballads their sound on Friday was better than ever. More Mature sound than the average indie band and not obviously trying to be anyone else.

Go listen.

ATT USA followers, Mancini Fires are one for you!

2011-06-26T06:55:00.000-07:00

If you fancy a break from the main stages , have a listen to some new music in my old college buddies' band, Mancini Fires. Tiny little bit of Matchbox 20 sound to them mixed with some coldplay maybe??? Great vocals from Greg Foster and some guitar riffs. Listen out for some top bass playing too (#stuleason!)
definitely one to watch on the Manc music scene anywho, and a potential opener for the "Green Man Festival" Here are the links...

Now made it to Asia! Nice one! Better than oasis!

Kassidy - Best Newcomer of 2011? Whatever, just keep your filthy mits off them you Brit Award wakes!

2011-05-27T08:10:00.000-07:00

My best mate got me into these one boozy Saturday afternoon. Four hairy types from Glasgow with guitars sounds like a Rod Stewart Nightmare but don't be fooled, these 4 hairy types (actually i retract that, ones decided to chop his hair off and look like a high School Musical Extra, so 3 hairy types....I digress!) are the genuine article. Grade A shit hot if you wish. and the best thing is, they don't really sound like anyone else.

Live @ Deaf Institute was a brilliant gig and you can expect big things from these boys. Here's a little clip of them doing a great cover of Adele, Rolling in the Deep...

Help them on their way though, dont be a mug and download for free, you can get the stuff here....

Here's a little bit more of them, deep fried (why do they do that?), to wet your Kassidy Appetite

I Don't Know

Manchester; Capital of Music and Football

2011-05-27T07:40:00.000-07:00

35 long years have past since Man City last won the FA Cup; After the late Neil Young scored the winner back in 69, what were the players and fans dancing to in the homes and clubs of our Manchester?? Well, if it were me...

Here's my top five tracks of '69 (not possible to do really!) followed by what I was dancing to in 2011!

69...

1) Come Together - The Beatles
2) Honky Tonk Woman - Rolling Stones
3) Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
4) Suspicious Minds - Elvis
5) Suite; Judy Blue Eyes - CS&N

Impossible to pick from the 60's as a decade at best, let alone narrowing it down! bit easier for 2011 though! here's what I was waving my Blue and White scarf to on the best day of my life so far....

2011...

1) The Lost - Kassidy - (the whole album actually but cant break my own rules!)
2) Neat Little Rows - Elbow
3) The Morning Son - Beady Eye
4) Simple Math - Manchester Orchestra
5) Blue Wembley - Mark Heywood (dont care, he had to go in there)!

4 Deadly Sins

2011-05-27T07:01:00.000-07:00

A lots happened since we last spoke so be prepared for a blitz of music news and general chitter chatter...

First on the agenda is the ever gigging Pat Lyons and his mates. I first mentioned these 4 manc lads back in feb and they have since changed their name to "Pat Lyons and the Sins"; still sound fooking great though so make sure you try and get down to the Roadhouse (Newton St Mcr) on 3rd June. Although they're pretty damn good, the bassist owns an allotment. Dont let that put you off though :)

Mcr loves music has gone global!

2011-03-17T06:42:00.000-07:00

That's right, we have had our first viewing from across the pond in the good ol' US of states! Get on the band wagon everyone before we get massive!

Remember, any music at all is welcome, just let me know what you want.

Peace, love and music

Beady Eye - Manchester Apollo - 7th March

2011-03-16T15:14:00.000-07:00

Not knowing what to expect from any band fronted by Liam Gallagher, is a little bit daft really..... I'm a little bit daft.

As giddy as i was on the lead up to the gig, there was a bit inside me that thought he would mess the whole thing up; like he had never put on a show for anyone before. probably because he is so unpredictable.

After waiting for what felt like an age, the sound engineers played Stone Roses "I am the Ressurection" at full blast. lights went down (after the full album version!) and then.............

....a teaser of an opener before they walked on stage, the the unmistakable silhouette of Monkey Boy Liam Gallagher leaps into Four Letter Word. playing all but wigwam off the new album, it was high tempo and high volume from start to finish.

Look, these boys are Oasis without the brains. but oasis without brians is a simple rock n roll sound that gets you feeling happy, mancunian, and almost 18 again.

good work fellas, i think that will be the last time you play a venue that small again.

now, some more clips for you from the gig....

MILLIONAIRE!

BABY COME ON!!

The Ferocious Few, How Kings of Leon Want to Sound!

2011-03-05T05:07:00.000-08:00

heard a little about these guys a few months back but never really checked them out. I guess the only way to describe them is how the Kings of Leon want to sound, and how The Killers want to look?!?
Dirty, Grimey Rock! Track is Loc'd Out.

...For a band to still busking for their supper, I can confidently say "you heard it here first"

I Just Discovered Aloe Blacc...

2011-03-05T04:50:00.000-08:00

...and apparently he needs a dollar!! Gone are the heady, crazy, dreamy days of James Morrison (thank the baby jesus and the orphans) trying to pretend he has any soul by singing in a croaky voice. This guy (Aloe Blacc) has been going, unheard of, for since the mid 90's and is probably one of the best Soul artists since the days of Motown Records. Have a listen and let me know what you reckon? you may have heard this track (I Need a Dollar) as the theme tune for "How to make it in America" and that’s where it got my attention so thanks Sky Atlantic!

Useless, But Brilliant Fact...

2011-03-03T12:16:00.000-08:00

Everyones favourite Vegas tash masters, the Killers, got their name from a fictional band in the New Order video Regret. New Order used a good looking fictional band instead of themselves. Good choice Hookey you ugly lump.

Thanks for that fact Clint Boon.

Beady Eye - Different Gear, Different Band, Best Album So Far This Year??

2011-03-01T14:45:00.000-08:00

Alright?

I have to admit, i have been slagging off the Beady Eye track "Roller" since I first heard it. Sounds just like a bad Beatles cover right? Maybe on the first few listens, but I downloaded the album last night (Legally of course, Piracy is for fu*kin chumps) and I was very pleasantly surprised.....no........I thought it chuffin rocked!

starting from the funky cover of a girl riding a croc, to the last track "Sons of the stage" and everything in between is a sound we haven’t heard in a long time. Is it a bit Beatles? yeah, in parts. so what? the Beatles sound good. Besides, Rock n Roll uses the same 3 or 4 chords anyway so its all bound to sound similar!

My Top Tracks....
Kill For a Dream is probably the strongest lyrically and sounds great; a bang tidy acoustic number with a nice electric riff .
Sons of the Stage just sounds like one of those tracks that will have you screaming and swearing at Liam thinking you're well hard.
Four Letter Word starts like some Bond theme tune. nice and fast opener and sets the bar for the whole album
Millionaire starts like an Elliot Smith Track (although Ii doubt bears absolutely no influence on "R Liam"!
Wigwam - well, if the Beatles wrote this it would have been a classic....

you know what. balls to it. Its a top album, buy it, listen to it, get drunk to it, dance to it and enjoy it. Oh, thought i'd show add the cover cos it tickles me....

Tipped for the Top?

2011-02-28T13:50:00.000-08:00

Check these guys out. not the greatest name in the world for a band, (think that might go to "Dog is Dead")?! but they sound great. Pat Lyons and Band. go listen. now.

TOP GIG!!
touring his new album part written by nick hornby.
some nice suprises when he played his old stuff too!

Welcome to Manchester Loves Music!

2011-02-28T12:22:00.000-08:00

Alright?!
Now then, I have been scratching my head for a while about whether or not to start my very own, unbiased, informative and pretty damn cool blog on the wonderfully beautiful music scene in my very own City of Manchester; I turned 30 the other day so I thought f*ck it, I'll give it a go.
I love good music. Anything from Elvis to Elton (kind of. well, just Rocketman really!). My first gig was.... wait for it..........
Bryan Adams! I know. My old man has a lot to answer for there right?! It was during his "Waking up the Neighbours" tour around '92, and I never looked back! The gig was something I’d never experienced before. Right there, in front of me, was the guy that had the record for keeping hold of the number one spot (yeah, the charts were good once). After that gig I needed to see more. Luckily for me I live in the best city in the UK for live music. I know I know, London is good too but it just isn't Manchester. I spent most of my youth at the Academy and the Apollo, but I just missed the Hacienda scene with New Order etc etc in the 80's, but was bang on time for the revival of decent rock and roll in the early 90's in the form of Oasis and (arguably) changing the face of music for that generation. Now don’t get me wrong, this isn't an Oasis blog, or specifically about Manchester bands. What I want here is to share decent music, share your gig experiences, use it as a platform to review a gig or even to promote your band. I don’t care about the genre; I just want to help the world understand why Manchester Loves Music! See what I did there?
