Welcome to one of the weirdest songs I’ve ever done… A few weeks ago I played around on my guitar until I happened upon this interesting sounding theme. Then I asked myself which genre or style of music would it best fit? I didn’t really get an answer from myself, so I decided to experiment with different styles.

This is what came of it:

Which style do you like best?

Sometimes, when I’m watching a movie where there’s a kissing scene (or a kissing + other stuff scene) I think: “I’m so glad I’m not in the movies. I don’t know how they do all that without it going somewhere mentally where it shouldn’t go.”

Do you get what I’m saying?

Anyway. Yeah. I’m SO glad I’m not in the movies. And I’m glad Drew’s not in the movies. Because, seriously, I don’t want either of us kissing some other person – even if there are 4 lights, 3 cameras, and a film crew standing around watching…

Thoughts?

I used to tell people what to do. I mainly did this when I thought I knew what was best for them, which was – unfortunately – a frequent occurrence.  To perpetuate this bossiness, my behavior was reinforced by others who told me I was good at giving advice… Wise… An old soul…

This had such a huge influence on my life that I planned to go into counseling, to spend all my workings hours telling people what to do. Little did I know, a good counselor actually listens more than she talks. She asks more than she advises. She lets the person make their own decisions.

About two and a half years ago, I decided that I didn’t want to tell people what to do anymore. I  also didn’t want to spend all of my day listening to others’ drama, which – as I said before – is what a good counselor does.

Since I made this decision, my life has been much calmer. But something interesting happened.  I found many internal issues that I’ve needed to address within myself (surprise surprise). I can no longer ignore just how undeniably messed up I am – and how, until I get my own personal life on track, its’ not wise for me to tell anyone else what to do.

Until then, I’m only going to tell me what to do

Everybody has a dark side:

1. I can be mean. And by mean, I’m talking REALLY mean.
2. Jealousy. It rears it’s ugly head in my life when I’m feeling insecure.
3. “Controlling” should’ve been my middle name. Just ask my husband.
4. I’m an addict. I can become addicted to nearly anything. Currently? Food.

Do you have a dark side?

The problem with killing a spider that has mockingly hopped onto one’s steering wheel is the fact that, unless one can locate his dead remains on the floorboard, he will inevitably pounce onto the seat of one’s car in what appears to be a fury of fangs hungry for revenge.

The problem with killing said spider aiming to attack one’s thigh with his fangs, is that, again, unless one locates his dead remains on the floorboard, he will continue to hop around inside the car – slightly stunned, but fully mobile.

Let it also be stated that simply tapping one’s foot in his direction will do nothing to destroy this determined spider.

Unless one smears his body in a streak along the rug of said floorboard, he will, in fact, remain alive – and eager – oh so eager – to defend his life.

So, remember how I wrote a handful of Hector songs? Well…. I’m thinking about doing another “collection” – this time just a collection of stories.

And I’m thinking about calling the collection “Seven Stories.” – catchy huh?

Here’s where you come in! I need story ideas. About whatever. And whoever. And whenever. Oh – and don’t forget: Wherever.

Leave me some ideas. WITH details… Just a few. (A good story song always has details. I’m not so good at details, so you can help with that.)

A few months ago I asked for some ideas, and I got a few. I hoped to write from one of those ideas each month, and – even though I’m not keeping count – I do keep that little goal in the back of my mind.

Today I’m posting one of those songs. Angie contributed the phrase “Yesterday’s Tomorrow” and it was YUMMY. Take a minute to consider it, and maybe it’ll taste as good to you. I returned to those two words again and again, hoping something would bite. Finally, about a month ago, it did. I don’t know if you’ll “get it” or even like the song, but here it is – not your typical break-up song:

Drew and I have been trying to get healthy this summer. Less caffeine. Less sugar (well, not the kissin’ kind). Less carbs. Less eating. More exercising.

I’m stocking up on salads and fruit.

I like fuji apples.

A lot.

I know some people might see them as a deviation from the norm, but I don’t care. I like fujis, no matter how weird you think I am. I thought they were weird, until I tried them. Sweet heaven. I left those bitter Granny Smiths behind, and I don’t regret it one bite (err, I mean, bit)!
